LOVED the video!! Trout streams are far from where we live, but I’ve practically caught 25 creek chubs on the fly rod in a creek which back in 1974 when President Nixon signed the Clean Water Act was SO POLUTED, it was consistently thicker than a chocolate malt, and thus no fish could’ve possibly survived. Creek chubs are one of the most underrated fish to land on a fly rod. After all my years of catching trout, I simply never imagined a fish this fun to land in warmer waters. 😇
Great video! I live in Austria and it was the first chance for me to fish for chub. They are seriously underrated as a species to target on the fly. It is certainly harder to convince a big chub than a big trout to fully commit to take...
Nice to see some fly fishing for coarse fish. I know a lot more people are trying it. For people that don';t have easy access to river trout it's a great way of enjoying fly fishing. I'd like to see some more on your channel. See how many different species you can catch.
Hi Andy, great to see you catching chub on the fly. I used to target chub on one of my local small rivers 40 odd years ago just so I could get out during the coarse fish close season but could justify it as fishing for trout but with big bushy beasties. Unfortunately over the years the trout population dwindled to nearly nothing. Tight Lines
I'm so glad you've put a Chub fishing session up - my local river is full of 4-5lb Chub, gin clear and rather small (Its the same river a rather popular youtuber frequents) - I've been wondering what flies to catch them on, the idea of using a red tag never occurred to me. The only concern is that for every 5lb Chub there is a 7-8lb Barbel, I'd hate to see what my 4 weight rod does with one of those on 😂
Living some distance from wild trout / grayIing rivers, I go on my local coarse river to practise dry / dry droppering - duo fishing for chub and Rudd on my Euro rod set up ...great fun
Excellent video Andy, nice to see what you can do in the R.Trent ( I know exactly where you were and with whom) when targetting coarse fish. I love the versatility of fly fishing! As we spoke about recently I am now going to have a go at barbel on the fly, so it would be great to see a video on how you would approach it, tactics, tackle etc.
Top angling and a great video I personally would like to see more fly-fishing for coarse fish as it is something I will be adding to my angling here in Germany
When chub get over 5lb they seem to be a different fish and really pull hard. Like you I use a 4wt, but I’ve had fish over 5lb bend it flat on their initial run. Quite what a seven pounder would do I can only imagine!
Nice teamwork boys - getting the job done! Funny how when you are up on a bank you can see fish everywhere, but once you are in the water you can't see anything. I think that was the first time I've seen you do a double haul in a video too.
Kayakers are always so noisy! When I’ve been trotting on the Herefordshire Wye I’ve heard them 20 minutes before I can see them. Noise polluters par excellence!
This takes me back to my first days of flyfishing; inspired by a flyfisherman who was targetting chub on the Chesterfield canal near Retford he was pulling chub out every other cast whilst I sat float fishing and watching the big chub ignoring everything I had. With that I got some flyrod blanks etc, made the flyrod and put a flyline on my centrepin reel and started catching! I then moved on to trout in rivers and that is where I stayed. I think the huge numbers of chub caught in matches on the middle pond of the canal are distant memories now - how sad, and the fishermen have moved on, perhaps to pay and display carp fishing.

Love it. Chub have to be one of the best fish to target with a fly rod. Super underrated!
Another brilliant and educational video thank you Andy. You really know how to engage and teach the audience.

Really enjoyed watching that Andy (& Olly)! Glad to see I’m not the only guy who gets snagged … including on himself! 😂
Brilliant stuff ! Well done !
In Belgium we have them to, stil what nice chub that swims around over the pond, chub realy is a throphy fish for flyfishermen.

Ginger Fisherman?
Glad to hear it! I'm sure you'll catch them, you might even be able to sight fish for them in that place too?
@@IBandAndyFishing Most definitely sight fishable. Its as clear as a chalk stream this time of year.
I'm looking forward to hearing the results!

I needed to DH with that rig, hard work on a #4, I was a bit under gunned 😂
@@IBandAndyFishing Yep, bet it was hard work dragging that giant fly through the air with a tungsten bead trying to pull it all down.
Barbel on the fly is a thing in Spain. Why not here?
Hey there. Any lure fishing content returning? I'd love to see more of that as well. Cheers

Must have felt strange the guide being guided, good video and nice fish well done
Love the latest video Andy keep them coming please. Would it be fair to say the Chubb prefer a nympy with a bit of colour/or flash ?
how about Gudgeon on the fly on a canal 🤣
Now there's a challenge!
