I have take fly fishing back up in January this year after taking it up as a teenager and having my great grandfathers rod thrown out by mistake, killing my passion for it back then. 2 months later I had all my kit and tools in the van stolen, £3000 worth of fly fishing kit alone. I rebuilt and hit the hobby hard.I have made immense progress and amassed some awesome kit and loved every second of the hobby. Being self employed and getting lots of time off really helps. But it also is a huge credit to you mate. These videos are really honest and real and just fantastic. Even a main member of my chalk stream fishing club recommends your videos and your flies. I have bought a good few quids worth this year and they are working beautifully. Beautifully tied too. You and IB are a joy to watch and a huge inspiration in my journey, and honestly I don't comment on much ever. But I thought id quite like to ket you know. I am very lucky with the ability to hire good guides and practice a lot. But I Utilise every avenue to learn and the books, DVDs, forums and UA-cam are a great way for me to process all the information I need and I can absorb the information well. But nothing works better than a person who you click with in their teaching style and you guys tick those boxes and have been awesome to follow. Thanks
There's so kind, thank you very much! Comments like these are the reason we make fishing videos 👍🍻 We're so grateful for the support from folks in the channel, and with the web shop stuff, and if it's helping people enjoy their fishing then that's just what we love to hear!
So happy to see another vid, Andy. We're frozen in here on the Kenai. Water's open but too much snow stomping and icy guides at the moment, so we are giving the big rainbows and dollies a break. I hope you're having
Welcome back Andy. Good to see the rivers are getting back to near normal. Hopefully things will continue to improve. Nice video and some very nice fish. Keep them coming
I took up fly fishing at the beginning of this season then found out there's a close. I used to go after work, before work, Sundays with my son. When I was teaching myself I literally fished until it was too dark to see but having seen naked nymph videos I thought man doesn't need to see, sat down on the bank of the tiny brook i was fishing, reeled all my fly line in so the leader was on the last eye and decided to see if I could feel vibrations at the rod tip as I dragged across the bottom and I could. I Raised my rod a few inches, drifted and managed to catch by feel. Going from that to now being sat around watching YT fly fishing videos is killing me . I NEED to be on a river or stream somewhere 😂
Great fishing Andy, good to see some of the bigger Grayling coming out of there! - I've recently moved from quite a thick french leader to a full spanish/mono rig, but I'm not enjoying it as much, my casting and accuracy took a big hit. Those 15m French Leaders you're using now seem interesting though!
The mono rig really does take some figuring out, I've tried it with clients and had exactly the same result as you've found, it's not as forgiving as the French leader in my opinion 👍
Good to see you back in/on the water. If only the rivers down here would return to the confines of their banks, we might be able to get after some grayling down here in the South West.
Hi Andy. Great to see you on the water again. I was interested how you changed quickly from one fly to two. Did you just tie the deep purple onto the bend of the baby pink or did you do something else ?
Hi Geoff, I'm rigged up with a tippet ring, I can either hang one dropper off this ring, or one shorter dropper and one longer point fly dropper, it's really versatile
Hi Andy. Another really great video with loads of pointers for me. Re-inforces lots of things I think I should do but don’t. I should use a single fly far more particularly in clear water (and definitely more often in shallower runs). I need to use my 6x tippet that I use during lower levels in summer. I need to spend more time in the kind of water that was productive for you and identify the places where the depth changes rather than those faster runs that always grab my attention. I need to get back to drifting my flies more slowly and watching the sighter. Earlier in the year I had more success leading / “pulling” my flies through the faster stuff with the point fly tapping bottom constantly. It’s not really worked recently when the Dove has actually been right and I’ve been able to get to it. Looking forward to the next video. Tight lines.👍
Hi Phil! I think the important thing is that both of those things can be right (and wrong) at different times of year, or even day. I do find at this time of year they're not willing to sit in the faster stuff, there just isn't the quantity of food coming down. All about figuring it out in the day I reckon 👍
Hi Andy, thanks for this video. It reminds me of a local spot on the Frome that is a go to after heavy rain…. at the start of the video, you mentioned your new pack and that the leader you use tapers write down .. for the last couple of years, I have favoured a straight mono leader about 10 m and then the taper comes from the bicolour indicator, and then the Tippit section itself.… So here’s the question at last… Do you see many advantage in the gradual taper of your euro leader over a straight mono line? Many thanks in advance John.
Hi John, great question! I use both styles, either a french leader or a mono rig with 0.6 Sempe. I do find that most folk who are new to this style of fishing get on better with the french leader - it's easier to handle, a bit less rod-tip tangly, and when using lighter flies or even a dry, it turns over better for having that taper. That said, if I'm fishing skinny water and a single nymph or pair of tiny nymphs, I do like to touch of the mono rig. I think they're both got a place
Hi Andy, thanks for coming back to me, it’s not like I’m able to get on the river at the moment anyway. It’s underwater the fields are like lakes and the river is hard to find. I imagine it’s the same all over the country
Hi Andy. Great video as usual! Hope the weather picks up and you can get guiding again ASAP. Is that 15m French leader a real advance? The 0.18 mm Spanish leaders are not that easy to cast, and I wonder if a tiny bit of sag with a long tapered French leader when casting more or less upstream on a narrow UK river would be helpful in bite detection, compared to a taut Spanish leader?
Hi Kerry, there's a real can of worms here regarding sag and bit detection. I've heard it agued that the slightest bit of sag (such as a french leader) will effect your ability to "feel" takes in comparison to a french leader. My issue with this is that we're not really trying to feel for takes, so this doesn't make as much sense to me. Lots of different wakes of skinning this cat, I don't think there's a right answer
I'm sure it will, it really does require a specialist rod! I will say though, I detect almost none of my takes through feel, you shouldn't be fishing to feel really, that indicator in the air is gonna tell you what's happening 👍
I wouldn't say special necessarily no, but having different weights of a few flies you really trust is important. It'll give you more options to fish higher or lower in the water column, and in different water speeds 👍
Nice to see you out fishing again, and producing fish even in less than ideal conditions. Does that Baby Pink work for trout too? I might have to tie some up and try it out.
I know exactly how you feel about the rain and hence river levels like a yo yo! What are the waders you're using? The logo looks something like SDS? Do you ever go to neoprene waders in winter?

Good days fishing Andy 🎣 great to see you back out on the water 👏
thanks Scott!
Awesome Andy…as always. I will be watching the gauges and planning a trip as soon as the rain stops falling. Take care J
I’ve been looking forward to this one. Great job Andy!
Cheers Phil! 👍👍

They were getting back to normal, then it snowed and melted, and bit everything is knackered again 🙈😂
Nice one Andy. Good to know they’re doing ok in there after recent onslaughts. Top angling on the bow and arrow.
Cheers Jerry! They're all still there that's for sure, just very tough to get at!
Excellent film Andy, you say what you're doing and why, also keeping it simple..
Thanks John! If it was complicated then I wouldn't manage it!

Thanks David! Hope you're catching them all?
Love fishing places like this. Reminds me of fishing as a kid. Nice video Andy - keep making them 👍
Thanks Alex, can't beat the small rivers can you?
Great vid Andy, always good to watch you. Not so rusty really and some lovely fish. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers.
Thanks Roger! Definitely a bit of rust, but I'm not going to complain with that for a couple of hours on the water!
I’d keep that small stream a secret, Andy. Looking forward to wearing my Grayling bobble hat
Don't tell 'em Pike!
Good to see a few coming out, including that trout 🤞
There's always one trout willing to hang itself isn't there?!
Enjoyed that Andy after today's washout!
Thanks Mark! Typical isn't it? What a month or so it's been.....
I've really enjoyed this, mate! Proper real world inspiration stuff. 👍🎣
Thanks Geoffers, really appreciate it!
Superb Andy love it 🙌🏼💪🏻🎣
Cheers Tim, much appreciated!
Thats the way to do it !! Bravo.
Thanks bud, hope you're well?
@@IBandAndyFishing very well thanks. Working independently now so need to chat about some plans I have.
Hopefully the plan is to fish fish fish?!

I just decided to invest in a euronymphing setup, I tried it on a standard rod and had no luck. Hopefully the new setup helps feel the bites 🤔
I'm sure it will, it really does require a specialist rod! I will say though, I detect almost none of my takes through feel, you shouldn't be fishing to feel really, that indicator in the air is gonna tell you what's happening 👍
@@IBandAndyFishing do you think I need special nymphs too? My standard nymphs seem to have only very small beads, perhaps less than 2,5mm.
I wouldn't say special necessarily no, but having different weights of a few flies you really trust is important. It'll give you more options to fish higher or lower in the water column, and in different water speeds 👍

Thanks Tom! I've got clients who swear by it as a trout fly yes, though I do find it selects out grayling personally
Where do you get different weight of bead, all the suppiers Ive seen just increase the size if the fly. Unfortunately I dont need your full pack.
I wonder if you’ve done any tenkana fishing for grayling?
I've dabbled with tenkara but it never really grabbed me
I know exactly how you feel about the rain and hence river levels like a yo yo!

These are the wychwood gorge sds waders John - excellent value for money. We did a review on them which is worth checking out 👍
If I use a single nymph , with my main line do I just use fluorocarbon, or just tippet?
Nice camo net. Why the orange jacket? 😳
Honestly I picked it up cos I thought it would look better on video in the winter months when the light is flat 👍
