My dad taught me to use peel and stick tile on the inside of my cabinets, the tile cleans up easy and can be taken up with a hairdryer and a putty knife if you want to change or replace. Love how you did not over talk the subject and got right to work.
Contact paper works well for lining shelves as well and can be cut to fit, without the seams between tiles which can "leak." It's not as easy to find in stores as it was a few decades ago, however, in my experience.

Lol. Good job indeed. (Understated) This humble woman was doing FAR far more complicated woodworking long before youtube even existed. She can build, literally, anything. She is the reason I've done my own buildouts, fireplace surrounds, furniture etc. I would've never tackled and designed and built these things without her example over the years. You don't know me Anna - but i have known your work for years. So Thx. A 1000 times over.
I asked my handy husband to do this when we moved into our house 18 years ago, BEST improvement EVER! He did all the kitchen base cabinets and all the bathroom base cabinets. Now that I'm 71 it is a God send not to have to crawl on the floor to clean and/or find something at the back of any of my cabinets.
There is something else you might love. Age makes it painful for me to do a deep knee bend. I bought a few plastic rolling garden carts. Picture a small heavy duty plastic tote on wheels. I can sit very comfortably on the cart to weed my garden, put air in my tires, or scrub my floors. Also it is easier to stand up from a sitting position than it is getting up from the floor.
I have been struggling n cant not afford new kitchen cabinets. My cupboards on ground...can reach them so I can use them. I was so frustrated. Now looking for someone to do for me.

@Ana White. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I HAVE AM UNFINISHED PROJECT AWAITING ME FOR 6 YEARS (DUE TO A DENTAL CRANIUM FRACTURE AND NERVE INJURY) THAT REQUIRES THE SHIMS. IT WILL NEED 2"X4" BUT SAME TECHNIQUE. I HOPE TO finish this now with a pull out boxes that we already had made. I was about to give up and Order pegs online and just put plywood shelving in there. Since it is 2 foot deep cabinet that was made for an inset oven and I am using it for food storage, it will really help to have the rollouts to be able to rotate stock properly and reach to the back. This video was such a blessing for me thank you. It has a large face frame
Thank you, Ana! This is such a clear, concise video. I feel much more confident now to start building and installing my first drawers for a beautiful pantry I recently salvaged and restored. I appreciate your videos so much!
Oh, Ana, thank you SO MUCH! This is exactly what I needed to swap out a shelf on my sewing cabinet to a pull-out! Can’t wait to get started on the kitchen cabinets next!
I've been looking at these solutions for about 5 yrs now, and paid a few $ for the metal baskets which come w the slides but also reduce the usable space. This is the BEST user-friendly, so much less expensive, excellent results option I have yet seen. Thank you, excellent vid!
I changed my shelves with wired pull out drawers. It's a game changer for me. I can now get cereals etc out of the cupboard without having to bend or kneel
This was awesome. I have several situations that I can use this wonderful idea for. I had a drawer pull out made for under my kitchen sink, it cost almost $300. When I saw how easy it was for him to install, I knew I was going to have to find another way around this that wouldn't cost so much money. Thank you for your excellent tutorial.
Not sure why this popped up but perfect timing. My wife was just telling me we need a solution for our shelves and this looks perfect. Good job, thanks.
Hi Ana! I have made several of your plans. Currently I am making an industrial cart for my grandson's apt. I made one for me a few years back. Love your home!
Thank-you, this is what I need done to a couple of cabinets and I had no way of knowing how to go about the project. Best of all I can do it myself. What a vote of confidence!
I've done exactly this conversion of my kitchen cabinets and also built drawers - after watching Ana's videos and using her methods! Thank you very much Ana, for your very clear and easy to follow videos! They've been very helpful indeed! 👍
Wonderful idea. An alternative to small rectangles for the shims is to simply fit a panel to either side or 4 narrow boards that are the height of the cabinet. That way you would have the option to change the height of the shelf by simply relocating the screws or installing an additional track.
Fantastic Ana! In addition to this, we have a pantry with wire shelves that aren't too useful. Will add 4×4's on the sides for rails and buy shelves. Your island drawer divider like my pantry idea spin off are a hit with the little lady. Keep on making such useful projects for relativity green DIYers like me. Thank you!

Everybody and their uncle had different methods and one girl even had an entire workshop full of state of the art equipment that I wound up rolling my eyes and got rid of her in a heartbeat lol. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are an angel in disguise ❤️
@@donnamaco1 Eh, the condos and townhouses in my area aren't the best. Too much controlled by the HOA, they own everything under the sun and tell you what you can and can't do under the roof (stuff like no pet fish, reptiles, no holes in the wall). I'd rather put my money in a place that's really mine.
@@dragon6irl I won't suggest ever doing something your against. I just would become part of the HOA Board members and steer my condo in a sensible direction, but that is just me. I love living in a condo. Single family detached dwelling units have become cost prohibitive for many and condos can be found reasonably priced sometimes a steal. I bought my first one at 29. Yes, friends made fun of me and my ugly condo but I slowly fixed it up. In the implosion of 2008 I had a comfortable roof over my head and those friends that laughed, many did not. Best purchase I ever did.

Wow! I knew there was a better way to do this! I was going to buy some of those pull out shelves that are ridiculously expensive! Now I know I don't have to, thanks to you!
Happy to help!
SO happy to help you!
doing mine at the moment, the upper shelf is ok, for me easy access to the bottom shelf also helps
everytime i throw away an old drawers i always save the railings. now i know exactly what to do with my vast collection of rails. thank you so much!
Excellent!
Thank you, Ana! This is such a clear, concise video. I feel much more confident now to start building and installing my first drawers for a beautiful pantry I recently salvaged and restored. I appreciate your videos so much!
Awesome, thanks!
I am a retired GC in residential construction that was a great video showing the install, Knowledgeable of your materials, tools and task at hand.
Wow, thanks!
Oh, Ana, thank you SO MUCH! This is exactly what I needed to swap out a shelf on my sewing cabinet to a pull-out! Can’t wait to get started on the kitchen cabinets next!
Glad it was helpful!
I've been looking at these solutions for about 5 yrs now, and paid a few $ for the metal baskets which come w the slides but also reduce the usable space. This is the BEST user-friendly, so much less expensive, excellent results option I have yet seen. Thank you, excellent vid!
Glad I could help!
Great idea. I'm old and find it impossible to get down on my knees and dig into the back of a cabinet. Then I have to figure out how to get up again.
😂 Me too 😂
True that!
I changed my shelves with wired pull out drawers. It's a game changer for me. I can now get cereals etc out of the cupboard without having to bend or kneel
Bring over a chair to help you "get down" and "get up".
What a super video. clear and concise, such a relief when so many DIY videos are way overlong. and great to see a woman!
Glad it was helpful!
Converted my cabinet with ikea drawers and rails and love it!
good job. Straight to the point. No endless sanctimonious talk. I love this.
Thanks for the visit!
Glad it was helpful!
Very good video and easy to follow ...Good job from a 68 year old retired carpenter.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
I've done that throughout the house on different cabinets and it is a space saver utilizing where it would normally be air space. Great idea
Not sure why this popped up but perfect timing. My wife was just telling me we need a solution for our shelves and this looks perfect. Good job, thanks.
Fantastic!
Hi Ana! I have made several of your plans. Currently I am making an industrial cart for my grandson's apt. I made one for me a few years back. Love your home!
I am a total beginner and you explained this so clearly I am not afraid to tackle this handy project! Thank you!! Subscribed!!!
Wonderful and welcome to our channel!
Thank-you, this is what I need done to a couple of cabinets and I had no way of knowing how to go about the project. Best of all I can do it myself. What a vote of confidence!
Glad it was helpful!
I've done exactly this conversion of my kitchen cabinets and also built drawers - after watching Ana's videos and using her methods!
Thank you very much Ana, for your very clear and easy to follow videos! They've been very helpful indeed! 👍
Great job!
Wonderful idea. An alternative to small rectangles for the shims is to simply fit a panel to either side or 4 narrow boards that are the height of the cabinet. That way you would have the option to change the height of the shelf by simply relocating the screws or installing an additional track.
Yep, I think I'd do that for the aesthetics alone
Great comment!
Dan Hubbard
My wife and I were discussing this type of installation just yesterday. Great demonstration on how easy it is to do. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Great idea!
You did an amazing job. not too much talking but just enough to get to the point and make it easy. You’re literally the first DIY video I’ve ever scored so highly
I appreciate that, thanks for watching!
GIRL! First off, Good on you for doing it yourself, and doing a damn fine job of it. Second - what perfect timing. I just bought the hardware and I'm ready to tackle it.
If you think this is good, you should check out her website! Tons of great DIY projects and plans and a very active community to help you learn as you go.
This video is about to SAVE MY LIFE! I have a narrow deep pantry in my rental and I’m not trying to spend a lot of money but i do want to make my life easier. Wish me luck!
You got it!
Thank you! I just spent $100 on 2 wire shelves until I saw this! Now I'm taking those back! lol
Glad I could help!
This is a huge upgrade to regular cabinets. Thank you for you wonderful knowledge and skill.
You bet, thanks for watching!
Thank you! I needed this so bad for the biggest pain in my house right now & todays actually my bday so it feels like a gift from the universe from you today 😂 god bless 🤍
Happy birthday!
Happy belated birthday!!:)
I... LOVE... YOU!!!
Darlin, you just became a my new best friend LMAO. I have literally spent the ENTIRE day looking at videos to organize my kitchen. I am 100% disabled and wanted to make draws in my kitchen cabinets. Everybody and their uncle had different methods and one girl even had an entire workshop full of state of the art equipment that I wound up rolling my eyes and got rid of her in a heartbeat lol. Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are an angel in disguise ❤️
I'll just tuck this away in my DIY playlist for when I have my own house...
Maybe start with a small fixer condo. You won't regret it.
Donna Cooper I’m thinking about going in the same direction. I just have to find one with reasonable hoa fees.
Great job! So glad the video was clear and concise. I never enjoy a five minute video that takes them a half hour to communicate. Well done.
Glad it was helpful!
Wonderful! I will install these railings to all of my shelves. Good job
Go for it!
Blessings, John 3:16 (NIV).
Right?!
We're about to purchase a house with nice but older cabinets and I cannot tell you how helpful this video is! Thank you, Ana!!!
I'm so happy to hear that!
By adding a small side edge it keeps things in place.
That’s a tip to be remembered...how easy. Take a phone-pic, use a flashlight to get a good shot. Plan the job by starting out right, take a picture will bring the job eye-level.
When you’ve got it, get a teenager to assist. Away from video games...help me a minute. Ana does the same with these great vids.
Thank You so much !You just saved me a couple thousand dollars .I can keep my old kitchen and fix it Your way ..I do not have to buy new ones . I thought it was really hard to do what You just showed us ..Bless You ...
Glad I could help!
Perfect timing. I'm just finishing up your Too Faced pantry and was wanting to add pullouts to my kitchen cabinets but wasn't sure how. Thanks for all your wonderful doable projects.
Perfect!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. Short, sweet, cheap and easy, looks and functions like a dream.
I thought I was going to have to watch several videos to figure out how to do my odd size shelves, but you covered everything I need to do in the simplest way.
Many blessings. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Wonderful!
@Ana White You haven’t any idea how much I needed to see this tutorial! I have 25 cabinets!
Hi,, I can't believe for the past 2 days I have been trying to figure this out and thinking of spending a lot of money for those kits but this is it. Thank you so much for showing up just when I needed you. God does answer prayers and I pray He blesses you real good 💚 Jude from Kentucky 🐴🌿🥀
Very happy to hear that!
Thank you Ana! I’m definitely going to add some of these in my kitchen as well.
Perfect!
Thankyou so much. I just made 2 pull out shelves in my van. It will make so much difference. I have gas cookers on them. I'm so proud of them. Thank you again.
Wonderful!
Gold standard for videos. Perfect in all respects, especially delicate background music we are hardly aware of. Congratulations!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome! I feel brave about taking on this task now. Thank you for making it so simple to understand Ana. 3 Thumbs up ! Also, it's very aesthetically pleasing.
Glad it was helpful!
WOW thank you so much for posting this video.
I just got new cabinets and I wanted to have shelves that pull out your video is just what I wanted to do with the shelves to save my back and knees at 68.
Many blessings to you and yours and thank you for helping us to save money.
Wonderful!
Wonderful!
Wonderful!
Good idea and a good job explaining the process.
Thanks 👍
You made it look so less complicated than I thought, thank you.
You're welcome!
I was about to do this and thought I needed a whole bunch of material behind the slides but the shims are perfect
Ciao from Italy. Just wanted to share my gratitude for your simple video. It was just what I needed to add a pull out shelf for my audio cabinet that now allows me to pull out my turntable via the slide-out shelf. Well done and thank you. Grazie, Greg
Glad it helped!
We are moving into a new house at the end of the month and I was actually looking for something like this in your channel! It was like you read my mind lol
I've been a fan of Ana white for a few years now. I love all her ideas and I'm about to do her diy fireplace.
Have fun!
Where have you been all my life? :-) I totally need this as I begin to tackle projects this fall. This is on my to-do list.
I just spent so much time looking at buying a shelf and finding the perfect very expensive piece that I would have to install... only to come across your video with the most obvious solution that never occurred to me! Thanks for sharing this!
Glad I could help!
Anna, I love your videos. I wish you could put in below the video links to the materials you use for your projects. I do a lot of Amazon so maybe links to that or to Lowe's, Home Depot, ACE or other big box type stores would be helpful as well. Thanks for all the great tips, tricks and plans for your projects.
DLawless has quiet close slides. (Let’s their employees use the restroom when needed). (Pays tax).
She did not bother to do this because they sell this anyplace. I like how she reused her old shelf. Just go to the shelving/organization section and there will be more selection than you need.
I have watched numerous videos for this exact project...they seemed complicated and I need a work shop to get it done! I can litterally build these in my condo. You Are. Brilliant.
Glad it was helpful!
This chick is a genius. She should have -not just a show but a whole tv channel
When I search for tips on how to change a a simple shelf to a pull out draweror add a pull our drawer your video came up. I was really overthinkong the process and for sure will try your method. Thank you sooooooooooooo much
Awesome!
I LOVE IT!!!! Honey, if you were here I'd just KISS YOU! I love cabinets with drawers so I don't have to bend over to find things! Being thrifty is at the top of my list too since I live on a tight budget. This is definitely going into my next home.
Great ! nice and informative video with simple instructions, no background music 😁 and not too much talking.
Looking forward to check your other videos. Thanks very much.
Glad you liked it!
Good job!! I was going to buy one of those $39.00 fancy shelves.
Another great DIY learning video. After looking at several I figured out how to plan and make pull out shelves on my metal storage racks. I never can get to the back so now, easy pull out . Thanks Ana.
That's awesome! We'd love to see what you did, if you get a chance to send a photo in to anawhitesite@gmail.com:)
Moral of the story, make all your lower's drawers!
Tim Vander Mey amen! If I ever get the opportunity to build a new house from scratch, with the exception of under the sink, the lowers will be all drawers, all the time.
This is a money saver though. In the UK drawer units cost 2 or 3 times what a simple cabinet costs.
You lose a lot of space with drawers and it is hard to get tall items in and out.
