- Over the last 10 years of installing hundreds of drawer slides, I’ve come up with a unique method that makes installing full extension drawer slides easy. No math, no figuring, and no adjusting, so much easier and faster than any other way of installing full extension drawer slides.

I was about to give up trying to repair a broken drawer in our bathroom. After 6 videos that were overkill. I found yours Thank You for sharing and making it easy to follow. I’m 72 years old and still learning from you guys. I added new drawer slides and built a new drawer and it works perfectly.
Thank You both
Robert
Fabulous Robert, so happy to help!
After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!
I really enjoy your videos, thank you. I appreciate that there's none of the flash or intros or anything, it just gets right to the point of good woodworking. I have really learned a lot.
Glad you like them!
This method of fitting the drawer after the slides are in made the job so much easier...and less stressful! Thank you so much.
Happy to hear that Robert!
Oh my gosh girl, this is awesome. I have rebuilt my childhood home that was basically a tear down when I bought it. We are talking removing and rebuilding complete walls, raising ceilings, complete plumbing, electrical (didn’t do myself). I rebuilt 60 year old bathroom cabinets and when I went to put in the drawers I built the job cam out like a 5 year old did them. My confidence was shattered lol. Your method is so simple. Im about to do my other bathroom and I will use you method 100%. Thank you so much. Saving video for future reference.
That's great, so happy to help!
very neatly done! Perfectly square, clean and smooth - all without clamps, drop cloths and right in the kitchen!
Just again realized one is never too old to learn.Brilliant even though its building it backwards.Subscribed.
Thanks and welcome!
Thank you. No more anxiety building a drawer and hoping the slides fit around it. You just changed the order of steps for me.
Wonderful!
I think I’ll try this! Makes sense to me to build them after putting in the slides. I already built 9 boxes ahead of time today so keep your fingers crossed for me lol I still have 23 more drawers to do so plenty of room to experiment with different techniques. Great video thanks for sharing!
Great Video, thank you. When squaring the box with the bottom, after doing one end of corners like you did, I then square up the other two corners. After that I make sure the long sides are not bowed in the middle by nailing the middles, and then you can hit the rest of the nails around the frame. Learned this trick making shelves with cheap 2x4s.
You have outdone yourself, my dear! Great video! Answered all the questions I had that were not answered by others. NOW I feel like I can do this without a ton of frustration. Many thanks.
One of the best instructional videos I've EVER seen.
Your method clears up the issues and problems I had with doing this task. Trust me, your method is GREAT!
I'd only do two things differently with the drawer front installation; although that's just got to do with my preferred method.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Glad it helped!
@@AnaWhiteDIY I was so impressed, I sent the link to a few of my woodworking friends.
Ana I can't think of one video that I haven't enjoyed, including this one. You have an ability to relay information in a way that is easily understood!! Nicely done!!
Wow, thank you!
I prefer to pre-make the drawers myself but this is an interesting idea, maybe I’ll give it a try. I always err on the small side with my drawing widths, it’s a lot easier to shim the slides with fender washers than to make the drawers narrower after the fact. I did something similar to your sliding wall cabinet, I built a caddy for storing cutting boards, cookie sheets, etc., that slides out of a bottom cabinet the same way. I’m getting to the point where the hardest part of installing drawers is just getting up and down and reaching in!
That sliding shelf at the end gave me a great idea for making my tiny kitchen more functional. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
First time watching. I am new to woodworking, and my last attempt drawer slides was disastrous. This video has given me the confidence to try again.
Great to hear!
Love everything you do, my dream is to build and furnish my own home.
Tip I saw on a video. Figure out the handle placement before attaching the front, pre-drill those holes and use them to temporarily attach the front in place that way you wont have holes to fill in and touch up with paint later :). Remove screws and attach handles
Great advice!
You are an inspiration. Thank you for sharing all you do with us 🥰💛
Ta Da, you’re so awesome, we just downsides from a custom home to a builders, and I miss my pot drawers, any drawers. Thank you sooooooo much!
Thanks for the visit!
A method so simple even a man could have thiought of it. But we didn't! Thank you so much for 'easifying' my life! I liked the drawer better without the bottom. I can throw so much more into it!
Glad it helped!
Nice job. I would recommend to use a spacer to set the height above the frame instead of eyeballing it. That way, the drawer is perfectly parallel with the frame.
I appreciate you Anna for sharing the information you wish you had when starting to make things with me. Thank you for deciding to be a mentor on YT
I looked for days on end for a video like this... Our late 1970's single center slide kitchen drawer broke. Can't find parts. Cabinet is like yours but 'odd' in measurements. For the life of me I couldn't figure an easy way to repair it... I absolutely adore how you do this because everyone else is measure, measure, measure... bah, humbug. I'm gonna cheat, say I need a pocket jig do pull it off (new tool to the tool collection) then get busy! Thanks so much for this Ana, it's a real God-send to some of us.
So happy to help!
@@AnaWhiteDIY You did. I got the job done in a day, which was great for me because I was building a replacement drawer for cabinets built in the late 70's. One thing I definitely want for the next drawer is those 'drawer clamps' for drilling and assembling the pocket screws. I couldn't find a level space anywhere in my home! Thanks again!!!
I now feel as confident about drawer slides as Bill Murray was in What About Bob with a bomb strapped to himself. Everything is so clear now.
I can finally do this Ana! Be blessed.
Just saw your video the first time. You are inspirational. Great way to install drawers. I have 3 to install inder my cooktop.....and its been waiting for me for a long time.....and i suspect it was the fear of the slide installation. Thank you....and now i might just get them done. Love the relaxed atmosphere and soothing music! Thank you.
Thank you, so happy to help!
Ana,I love the full drawer slide idea and building the drawer from the “side up”, although I am a little bit concerned about the stability of the drawer bottom when it’s just glued and nailed. Wouldn’t a 1/4 or 3/8” dado in the sides, front and back for the bottom be sturdier? Maybe with a center brace given the width of the drawer? Just a thought, not a criticism ;)
Not to go all "Bubba" here, but I would say "It all depends on what the ... [intended use of the drawer] is".
That would be my concern if heavy items were stored in the drawer. For this shallow drawer under a range, we can safely assume lightweight things like utensils will fill it. Also, the Brad-and-glue fastening consumes the least amount of height, which is precious in a shallow drawer. Yet for a deep drawer holding heavy objects, you're right. Use a more secure bottom method.
@@davefink2326 I build my drawers the same way as Ana. I have used dados but it takes more time and measuring. I made a drawer for pots and pans just using heavier plywood for the bottom.
Storage of any kind is my main wood working interest ... Great channel to find.
Welcome Jim, thanks for the visit!
This was my project yesterday and it turned out fantastic - thank you for such an easy and straightforward instructional video!
Excellent!
I am new to wood working and was having an awful time trying to get drawer slides lined up and this video was very helpful. I wish I would have found this about 5 videos ago.
Glad it was helpful!
Woah woah... WOAH... at 10:52. Now THAT is one of the most creative storage ideas I've seen in a long time, and I've watched about a bazillion of these woodworking/improvement videos over the years. Wonderful idea. Just plain wonderful. Now I have to troll your page for other videos with great ideas.
Loved your installation trick. I bought some slides a year ago, but never quite knew how to begin. I will try your method. It seems pretty foolproof. Also liked some of the suggestions from your previous installations which you showed at the end. Thank you for the video and your presentation of it. Well done!
Glad to help!
Hi Ana, I love your technique for installing drawers: easy and practical. Thanks a lot for sharing and greetings from Colombia.
Thank you! 😊
I'm a homeowner who does most of my own work around the house. I found your video informative and easy to follow. Thanks for doing such a good job. I've subscribed to your channel and will be looking out for more tips.
Glad it was helpful and welcome to our channel!
well, I finally needed to try this method. I had the occasion to basically duplicate this drawer situation in my kitchen. First creating the draw w/o the maze of math tricks for the width so SOOOO easy and secondly, the draw, now finished operates better than 99 % of the drawers that I have ever made over the years ( and I've made quite a few). Great tip; it is now occupying an inerasable area of my brain. Tnx Ana !
Wonderful!
i like how casual your drawer assembly is. Dovetails are a waste of time , and who the hell notices or cares about a dovetail on the side of a drawer.
Great video!
First, great technique. Second, great editing. Third, no offensive music.
Glad you liked it!
Those Drawer slides take exactly 1/2" on each side so you simply deduct 1" from your finished opening and that is the exact width of finished drawer.
True, In quality cabinet building measurements and tolerances are so precise. I measure to the 64th of an inch, or 32nd +/-.
What a great little trick. I'll be using this when I build drawers for a kitchen remodel. Thanks!!
Wonderful!
I've been avoiding any drawer slide projects specifically because it seemed like more of a pain than it's worth (to me). This tip makes me reconsider my aversion, thanks for shooting and sharing the video!
Wonderful!
THANK YOU!!! I have always hated those things. Now I look forward to using them everywhere.
Awesome!
I use a marking gauge on the drawer sides to mark the centre of the slides. This gives you a scored line that catches the screw tip and makes it easy to get it in the right place.
Great tip, thanks for watching!
That is so awesome and exactly what we needed putting the drawer slides on.
Fantastic!
Wonderful build dealing with a inconspicuous situation
This is amazing and just what I needed because I don’t like measuring. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Smart, practical and efficient. Thank you, Ana.
You're so welcome!
You are my inspiration as a woman who wants to do a small improvement in my old kitchen
So happy to help!
Good instruction. Like the idea of installing the draw sides first. Thanks for posting.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! I really needed this. I'm about to make my first drawers. Also, it's pretty amazing how thin they can make those cooktops. Crazy that you can fit a drawer there at all.
Have fun, love my cooktop!
Mrs Anna white is one of the most amazing women she takes care of her family then by far is one of the smartest lady carpenter's of course she has been taught by her husband who as well is a awesome carpenter in his own right. May God bless your family for all you do with the plans you send Mrs white and Mr. White again Jesus make him first place in your minds and hearts again thanks for all you do.
Thank you always, God Bless
I install drawers very often, something I like to do it predrill with a good center finding bit. I used to use an awl to get my starting point but occasionally I’d get cracking. Center finding bit gets you a perfect starting point and fit for the screw. Love the method though!
Great tip!
You should learn how to use the torque limiter on the drill. It will aid in preventing overspinning the screw into wood. It's there for a reason. Nice method for building the drawer.
Great video lots of great information on drawer slide for people who don;t regularly do draws, thanks for your time.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, great video, thank you. Just beginning to tackle my first cabinet with drawers, very, very helpful.
Wonderful!
Thanks so much Ana. Really appreciate the tips here. I'll definitely use them in the future. Best wishes.
Wonderful!
I'm just going to subscribe for now bc I think you're great and I am inspired just from listening. Even if my mind is not getting any of it bc I've never dealt w this craft/home improvement before, someday it will be useful (we're buying a house this summer). Appreciate you!
That is exciting! Welcome to our channel.
Very impressive method a great guide with this project that I have had my share of misalignment issues and she is not hard on the eyes either
Thanks for the visit:)
Excellent - working on restoring an old desk with sliders. I have the old drawer fronts too! However - nails vs screws? I'd use screws on the sides and especially the drawer bottoms.
Beauty, brains and skills, lady you rock!
Thank you, again, for another awesome video to make life easier. I have been wanting pull out shelves and I think this will make the job easier!
Wonderful!
Great idea for the drawer but I wanted to add that your 'background' music was so nice. It was actually in the background! :) plus, it was nice itself, too.
Oh thank you!
I would use a framing square for the line, as it fixes itself in position. I despise ball bearing slides, though. Blumotion undermounts are the "cut to the chase" for quality drawers. Interesting solution, thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching and always enjoy new tips!
great video, only thing I would do different is drill 2 holes where your pulls would go to line up your face instead of nailing into the face ( and damaging)
Thanks for the visit!
Your videos are so helpful and easy to follow. Really great content. Thanks for sharing. Drawer slides are always tricky to get perfect even though I have done it several times now.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for all you do for us beginners
Happy to help!
Excellent technical presentation.
👍 fool proof for sure, great method for existing cabinet
Glad you like it!
Two thumbs way way up. I will be watching a lot more of her videos. This method is fool proof and the drawer build is simple butt joints with no dados. What's not to like!!
Try a couple of pieces of double sided carpet adhesive tape to temporarily hold the drawer front in place before screwing it from the rear - no holes to fill!
Nice job Ana. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Thanks for watching!
I love the t-shirt; lattes, lipstick, & lumber; that about sums myself up as well 😊
Yes! Thank you!
Great tip. I will try it on my next build. Great stuff, thanks!
Happy to help, thanks for the visit!
Mark where your handle will be first
Make an X
Drive your Nails thru the X's
Open Drawer, and attach front from the inside
Pull the nail and drill thru the X for the drawer handle holes.
Attach Handles.
No Holes or filler needed.
Optional method;
Mark Handle Holes with X's
Drill holes for handles in Drawer Front.
Attach Drawer Front with wood screws Thru the handle holes.
Open drawer, Attach front,
Remove screws in handle holes. Finish drilling handle holes into the frame
Attach Drawer handles.
Great tips, thanks for the visit!
You’re awesome Ana! Thanks for all the info. Definitely makes it easier. 💯⭐️👊🏼🍷
Happy to help!
Thankyou for you easy ego free explanation of a VERY useful tip
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant this will help me when I make our drawers for our tiny home 🏡
When installing the front, pre drill the handle holes then use screws to attach the front through these holes temporarily. Attach the front piece with screws from the back, remove the temporary screws, drill all the way through and attach your handles. No nail holes to fix up.😁
Great tip!
amazing!...learned new thing again from Ana. nevermind that this vid is a year old already LOL thanks!
LOL, happy to help!
At 72, the most difficult part of this is getting down and into the base cabinet!! lol My only suggestion would be to use a punch or nail set before screwing/mounting the track to eliminate any drift while driving screw. Great vid though!!
Thanks for the visit, great tip!
Omg another great video!!! Huge fan keep them coming.. Thank you...
You got it, thanks!
Love this you make it looking so easy
Thanks for the visit!
That was such a useful video, thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful!
I learned another way that works too, and that is to go ahead and put the slides on the bottom of the drawer as the old style is done, but attach the ends to a small piece of wood that will keep the two slides parallel. Basically, the same wood as you did on the sides as a spacer, but make it all enough to fit in the opening. Then you have somebody press the new setup firmly in place against the case. Now, somebody has to crawl up under the new slides and screw the spacer board into the case. Careful if you are doing an outside wall such as in an island or an L.
Woww absolutely best idea... 🖤👌🏼💯I am MR SRI channel from Sri Lanka, I like your video as an inspiration for me...Keep going❤👌😍
Thank you!
You just lit my world on fire, aloha.
Awesome video makes everyone more confident to start this project.
Really curious about that nailer, can you send a link please
That's the Ryobi 18 gauge airstrike nailer. Thanks for the visit!
Brilliant method! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Well done! I think I will put a drawer under my vanity I just installed and was not going to do a drawer but…
Nice job, a beautiful handygal.
Awesome. Thanks for the tips 👍🏽😃
You bet!
WOW! Thanks for the tips!
Happy to help!
I’m building a slide out dining table/drawer in my van with a 3/4” bamboo top that hinges upwards to reveal a shallow storage space inside… It will be approx 24” wide by 34” long by 4“ in height (2.75” deep ID)
Wondering what heavy duty slides you’d recommend… either 2” wide (250lbs capacity) or 3” (500lbs) ? And what brand?
Thanks, nice video, innovative way of going at it.
Glad you liked it!
Slick Trick. Thanks for sharing.
You bet!
I love your videos. One question I am about to attempt building slide out drawers for 2 cabinets in the kitchen what types of tools could get me there (a circular saw, drill, and leveler?
That's fantastic, here is the full tutorial to read through as well. You will need a saw, drill, square or straight edge. I use a nailer and pocket hole jig too, but those are not absolutely necessary.
In the event you want to build your drawers before hand, note the following: NEVER MAKE THE DRAWER 1" NARROWER THAN THE THE OPENING!!! Yes the cut sheet for side mount slides says the slide in ½" thick BUT you need to reduce the drawer width by another 1/32" (at least) for the drawer to run smoothly. So make your drawer box 1 -1/32" narrower than the opening. This is the standard in every shop I have worked in over the last 40 years. We could always tell the new boys because they used the 1" deduction. Also Make your drawers properly. The drawer she made is well...... Idea: have a set of side pieces like she shows to slide into the installed drawer slide in the cabinet. Measure the outside dimension of the side and then make you drawer box.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Ana, great video. What kind of wood would you recommend for the 1 x 4? I don't have a table saw to cut plywood. Looking to buy boards if possible for the sides.
Douglas fir or pine would be fine, just make sure it's nice and straight! Thanks for watching.
This works well when building drawers from scratch, but unfortunately most drawer slides I install are replacing existing slides, or are with premade drawers. The biggest cause of issues is the lateral spacing...I guess I'll have to keep looking for technique for that.
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Thank you for this!
Hi, great job. do the slides have to be the same length as the drawer? Thank you
Yes, here is a more in depth post ana-white.com/blog/2020/02/ana-whites-secret-drawer-slide-trick-full-extension-drawer-slides
Impressive. Thank you.

@@AnaWhiteDIY I really appreciate your presentation style. You're all about the subject matter and there's nothing extraneous or a waste of time in your video. You're not trying to entertain.
