The N64 was the most powerful 5th gen console to exist in the mid-late 90s and it was also the first ever 64 bit console, the GameCube was the 2nd most powerful 6th console to exist in the early-mid 2000s, unfortunately Nintendo gave up competing with Sony and Microsoft with the Wii in terms of performance and graphics. I wanna see Super Mario, Zelda, Pokémon, Super Smash Bros and other Nintendo exclusives in 4K with at least 30 FPS and with HDR.
It all depends on what Nintendo wants to do. It's not difficult to create a powerhouse handheld now. Other companies are already doing it so it would only show Nintendo falling behind the curve if they don't update the system specs to something more robust.
