  • Dili in Timor Leste is where most overlanders ship their bikes from Australia. We were no exception. We thought we would pick the bikes up and head to Indonesia straight away. however, we ended up falling in love with the place a bit and hung around for longer than planned.
    We have been on the Road since the beginning of December 2018. Started in Sydney and hoping to finish in London around September 2019. All we have are our 2 Suzuki DR650s. This is Episode 2 of our little adventure.
    Terrible roads, lovely local people and places like the incredible Jaco island. This small country has it all.
    Enjoy

    Saw several of your video's and i enjoyed them a lot. But then suddenly i lost your channel and could not find it back. So very happy that A.I. put me back on your track. I subscribed so i will not go wandering of and not find you after that again. I will go and watch all of your video's in the near future. Before i in 3 months will start of biking on my own again for 7 weeks. Turkey and Iran. Second time. So much to see and so many roads to ride.
    Keep going on lads and do a ride again.💪

    Excellent footage in Oz and Timor. Watching makes me really long to get back to Indonesia. Seeing those beaches on Jaco Island - just glorious. I am looking at your vids a second time. They are good medicine for the soul during lockdown.

      Cheers Steve, great to hear you're enjoying them even a second time round. For me watching them is both a happy and sad experience for many reasons. Mostly as I just miss being on the road and meeting all the amazing people, it really does give me some faith in the world. Hopefully we will be semi free soon

      Thanks! Those bags are really cheap ATV bags off ebay. Nothing special but they do the job, we just keep water and other bits and bobs in them. We are going to post a video next week about all the gear we use. Those bags in particular we had to alter slightly to make them work. I’ll try find the eBay link to them

    Made the big leap, and payed for my RE Himalayan yesterday :-), now all I need to do is get a license, and save up for some gear :-). It is mostly your fault!!!
    Ok, I have few more questions regarding this episode. Keep in mind that I have only backpacking and 4WD experience, so some of these might sound strange
    What did you use to film the market scenes? Was it your sony or gopro?
    I have noticed that when you went shopping for the vegies, you were in shorts and thirst, do you change, and store your riding clothes and boots in you panniers? And then you just leave your bike on the street when you go shopping with all your stuff on it? Or you always cover it with the bike cover?
    When you went to Jaco island, the snorkeling equipment, I assume that was provided by your fisherman guy who took you over? And throughout the rest of your trip, was it easy to get snorkeling equipment if you needed it?
    If you would both go to Mt Ramelau, would you leave your bike just standing there? As you can see I bit paranode about security. I am planning to travel solo, so it would be bit more difficult as I would have nobody to watch my back.
    When you went to Los Palos, did you take the main road, or you went south skirting the lakeIra Lalaro?
    Well that is it for a while, I am looking forward to the next episode.
    Cheers
    David

    • @Northandleftabit
      @Northandleftabit  2 роки тому

      Thanks Peter, glad you're enjoying it.
      We used ANL logistics in Darwin (only option we could find) and it costs roughly $900 aussie each. Not cheap but was a fairly smooth process and we were between Xmas and new year which probably added a premium. You have to be semi flexible with timing though as often the boat can be delayed on in ourcase come in days early.
      New video should be out within 24hours

    I always await your new videos, they are by far the best edited long distance motorcycle videos available on youtube!
    I’m planning to go RTW on my motorbike and I am looking for someone with a similar project to exchange ideas or potentially ride together some part of the way!
    I’m expecting to leave in March 2023 from Paris, ride to Australia via Iran and India (draw a line in your head), then fly from Victoria (AUS) to Ushuaia, then ride up to Newyork following the West coast, the full project timeline is to take between 12 and 18 months and I am open for modifications.
    I have already started saving and the planning for the project but I would really enjoy finding someone with a similar project, please send me an email (in my about) if you have a similar plan to achieve the ride of a lifetime!

    Great trip, question regarding your helmet, what model is it? and were you happy with it, especially in the hot tropics?, thank you

    • @Northandleftabit
      @Northandleftabit  2 роки тому +2

      Hi David, loving the questions/feedback. We used the Schuberth E1 which we purchased from Europe on offer. For overlanding it's a great helmet as the flip function is really handy for chatting to locals and police etc. It's ventilation is very good but a full MX helmet would be better, having said that the highways would be insanelly loud and do your head in.
      I'm a sweaty man and to be honest in India with traffic I could flip the helmet up in the extreme heat and as long as you're moving over 10kmph the ventilation with the face down was great.
      In short good allroader for a long trip, Just for weekends in extreme heat and mostly offroad maybe a proper MX helmet is better.
      New video should be out withiin the next day or so.
      Anymore questions just ask.

    • @davidlangthaler3521
      @davidlangthaler3521 2 роки тому +1

      @@Northandleftabit Thanks for the info, I will have to get a helmet soon, and I would prefer open face (especially for chatting with people), but that is bit of a safety gamble, I guess the flip up is a good compromise
