IN A HEART OF TIMOR-LESTE: Aileu, Maubisse and local life on a day trip from Dili

- I left Dili at 8:00 AM and headed south to the highlands. Dare Memorial, a museum about Timor-Leste during WWII was closed and I proceeded to the city of Aileu, the center of pro-independece party Fretilin during Indonesian occupation, where Portuguese fort and library can still be found and explored.
After lunch at Projeto Montanha Restaurant, next stop was Maubisse town in Ainaro Municipality with Portuguese hotel (Pousada de Maubisse) on the hill, overlooking the town.
On a way back I found traditional Timorese houses in the rural areas of Timor-Leste.

Thank you for exploring Timor-Leste, Andrew! If you plan to visit Timor-leste again, I would like to recommend you to visit Prisão do Ai Pelo. It is an historic late nineteenth-century Portuguese colonial prison in Liquiçá Municipality. It was deactivated in 1939 and is now a ruin.

Yes, I plan to visit Timor-Leste again and its only 4-hour flight away from me (I live in Singapore) to explore Oecusse, Balibo, Jaco Island and many more places! The most important thing is that they got their freedom from an oppressive regime that killed and tortured them for 24 years. Freedom and happiness are not measured by the richness of materials!
aileu aissirimou is my place that I born there from monument nicolau lobato to my house take walking just five minutes....now I'm still working in UK...I hope you enjoy your trip in esat timor and save
Interesting! Yes, I enjoyed so much! Aileu is not that hot as Dili since it's in the high elevation. Pleasant place!
This place looks like Baguio City of Philippines, I hope the towns people will reforest this area by plan ting more pine trees!

And then the second thing is the mixed up story about the fighting and then you call the swimming pool Portuguese but it was built by Australian soldiers.
