The first map taking advantage of double ammo in NM as a secondary check on difficulty was dang smart. I'm going to enjoy watching Decino play this WAD, but it's definitely not meant for my skill level and that's OK. Beautiful work, mate!
"Grab the megasphere, because items, kill the revenant, because annoying..." It's stream-of-consciousness stuff like this that makes watching these playthroughs so fun.
@Numbered--Weighed--Divided Buddy, doing commentary in simplified ways because your attention is focused on something else is EXACTLY what stream-of-consciousness is about. What's even your point lmao?
Making Do It Again was quite a fun endeavor. It's my second actual map and the first I released to the public. Finding a way to make an interesting mechanic on nightmare was a fun endeavor, but I definitely have to thank Peter and Benchy for suggestions/tweaks and detailing the map up respectively! All the other maps are definitely a real hoot too, and Christophine's map in particular is gorgeous. I'm certainly looking forward to what episode 2 may bring.
This is honestly one of the coolest concepts for a WAD, IMO. Never seen anyone actively make a map with ONLY Nightmare! in mind. Love the tip saying "Don't force yourself to Speedrun or shit just because enemies respawn". *Now to get MtPain27 to review this.*
I literally learned about this WAD a few hours ago while browsing doomworld and thought "It'd be cool if Decino made a video on it." Looking forward to this series. Nightmare's not really my thing, but at least this seems manageable.
This is manageable because it was specifically designed for Nightmare, rather than regular maps where the respawning and enemy density are just "F U" to the player.
I love the little details like the slightly changed color palate to have nicer colors and drippy on every bit of text to reflect the Nightmare difficulty option, it makes this feel so professional
"You have to trigger the all-ghosts effect to finish the level" oh my god that is... such a completely stupid way to design a level and yet is a brilliant, nightmare specific joke on the player
It's almost cruel how there are so many cute little details, but due to the nature of the wad you won't have much time to really take in all the sights 😭
Ghost-Monster Specters on forced Nightmare! difficulty I think has to be one of the most *terrifying* usages of stock Doom monsters I've ever seen. Fast as hell, hard to see, hard to kill (never staying dead either) and difficult to run from.
Decades later, we are still seeing purely genius innovation off of 1-2 old 3d shooter games. I love this game, I love this community, and I love the content creators that eloquently present both their work and others work. I also enjoy the shitposting 🙂👌
You guys are amazing when it comes to this project and maps that looks amazing enough as it is. You, Dwars, and Peter are the only 3 I subscribed for your awesomeness. Others are really cool to so I'm glad I would get to know them a tiny bit. I would never do this at all why? Nightmare is where I really suck at for the most part. Hats off to you all's!
Well that was just insane! I still don't know how you do it. Playing at this pace on this difficulty and with calm compelling commentary. We done decino 🙂💛
Having decino grab the chainsaw on Nightmare, well done Peter :P Congrats everybody for this set of maps, it looks very interesting so no doubt I'll download it! 👍
This wad is really good especially knowing that this are made by the loving Doom community. All the visuals and the MIDIs fits the vibe of the atmosphere of the maps, and some strange music too and the credits xD. Also knowing that decino took part of this is really cool and sure proud of it. Overall very cool and commendable :)
Wow, that's a nice surprise. I was hoping you would make a playthrough of this, but I didn't expect it so soon. And I sure as heck didn't expect my humble map to be featured in the thumbnail. I'm glad to be a part of this project and I really enjoyed all of the maps. Mine are probably the easiest, because I suck at Doom, LMAO (and I still had to be able to beat my own maps).
I'm always on the lookout for Lovecraft themed .wads, maps, mods or anything at all, the Rats On The Walls map was really great! When I first saw the map name, I started to wonder how they would gimmick the map based on the tale, with some maddening sound or something, but the ghost spectres we're genius, could never see that coming, and the "Doom Cute" on it just makes it more detailed and loreful, like a non-eldritch, dream-like tale would be, a perfect homage. Also this reminds me of a comment that I made on the God Machine outtake video, that goes "I like to think that this is maybe how HP Lovecraft would play DOOM. Tranquil voice, always educated and explaining everything and TORMENTED BY THE HORRORS OF DOOM IN A REPEATED, DREAMING, AND TIME WASTING MANNER!!!"
got a chance to play this one this morning as well, it's wonderful! i *really* enjoyed your poogers maps, for what it's worth. they may be gimmicky "shitposts" but i had never seen anything like moonshot before and the revenant missile one was a lot of really cool setpieces. your map for this is great too! i'm taken by quite a few of the entries here. i'm excited to see where the project goes. really really good stuff!
I never really been keen to play Nightmare myself, I play too slowly for it, but always love watching Nightmare runs, how hectic Nightmare can get is certainly a spectacle to witness.
Can't wait for your playthroughs of the sequel wads - "very deliberately hostile", "frustrating by design", and "cognitive behavioral therapy" Nah but on a serious note I love how they bothered to have a manual nightmare check on the first map when you already have to select nightmare, so extra
11:51 That's just the thing about playing on Nightmare: even if enemies respawn, killing them gets them out of your way for a while. And you get double the ammo to do it with, so don't get trigger-shy!
I absolutely love visuals of all the maps. They are so amazingly well done and it was a pleasure to watch. Gotta say that Map 06 Rats in the Walls was the most beautiful one XD loved that one so much and as Decino said, the people who love Going Down (like I did) will love that map, which I also did. So great video XD
I've enjoyed spying on this project from time to time. Great to see familiar names making their mark with bite-sized, well designed levels. I've learned that fast monsters are outside my wheelhouse, but it's a blast to watch all the same.
This gauntlet challenge is just another way to test your skills and level up in order to absolutely destroy Haste and ItaloDoom. Hell yeah, this was a great video!!
Not bad for your first (normal) map Decino. I noticed the quickest route along the main building has the easiest to gib enemies (51:08). Anyway, it has a nice flow without too many items. I really like the last secret; it demands a moment of appreciation. The color pallet chosen blended well with the space theme and sky box. The Midi is enjoyable and not distracting. I look forward to more of your maps. Thanks
This was a lot of fun to watch, an interesting change of pace. I have also mostly stayed away from Nightmare, but this WAD is a must. It's now on my Must Play list. And to hear you say that Peter is recruiting more map makers from Doom World? I'm excited to see what the amazing collective of Doom fans will produce involving enforced Nightmare mechanics. So far, this has been quite the ride! Can't wait to see more!
Wow, this is an amazing project. Nightmare is unironically quite fun to play on certain maps but a mapset made for nightmare, that's uncommon! Also, at 5:50 you can see the dumb baron texture from hell revealed lmao
These videos you do where you already know the map and just do commentary about them are personally my favorite offerings of yours. Not super into watching blind playthrough unless it's on a livestream. Prerecorded blind playthroughs just don't have the same enjoyment to me. Also, Map06 was SEXY AF. Holy sh*t the detail was absolutely fantastic.
I was thinking that other day about how a map could exploit the all ghosts effect, like accessing a secret exit or what-not. Pretty surprising that someone else actually came up with something for that last map, even if it's a literal meme.
Looks really fun once I'm done with the current mods I'll have to give it a go been looking forward to your next video and got an hour long one so that's a really nice treat so with that as always cheers for upload decino
woohoo, made it all the way through. Nice closing gimmick, haha. Very cool mapset. I'll have to try it soon. Nice to have a pseudo walkthrough in case I want all the items. Can't wait until the eventual episodes 2 and 3. Good luck to Peter on recruitment! Thanks decino!
Greetings decino, it was very nice to see you experiment the nightmare difficulty on dedicated levels. Congrats for you playthrough and for your first map, without forgetting your midis.
An interesting series of maps. I can't think of any other Doom WAD designed solely to be run on Nightmare, with all the other difficulties intentionally ignored. It is pretty well done. Congrats on your first map, it kicks ass!
This is a small one, but I adore the little detail of the BFG secret in Map6, where you take it off the Lost Soul poker table, and because of the way Lost Souls behave and are set up, they look like they're screaming in frustration at the random Space Marine that teleported in to steal the gun they were all playing for.
I have never seen a map set that is designed to be played on Nightmare, I usually play on UV but this looks interesting (because I am not a fan of respawning enemies).
Interesting idea, playing around with quirks of the game. I really liked the doom-cute map (Rats in the Walls) the best. Overall good maps, though they don't seem to really fit together and feel more like a compilation (which I guess it is) and thus a bit... random. What I personally was not fond of was the intermission-screens - both music and the message. Feels more like trolling/shitposting - which I guess was the intention? But this is not really my cup of tea. Also what I didn't like was the Nightmare idea behind it. Don't get me wrong, it's really interesting to see you collect items instead of kills and working with the quirks of this difficulty. But due to the nature of respawning enemies, you're forced to rush the maps - which in turn leaves less time to enjoy the scenery and commentary. Anyway, I look forward to the next episode. Good job everyone!
Damn that was quick! It only released yesterday 😂
Haha now you know what it's like to do commentary while playing on Nightmare!
I hate pistol start and nightmare, but I will still play this wad because you made it and I am sure it is going to be awesome :)
Well done Peter! This looks fantastic! I'll have to give it a try sometime
Thanks for the wad Peter.

We're gonna see A.L.T and Counterattack before we see a new upload of ItaloDoom
Ye man we need to see him do final map of it eventually
“Not Even Remotely Fair” might just be one of the best names I’ve heard for a DOOM WAD.
Yes it is.
That's not a good name, it's false advertising! These levels are designed to be fair on Nightmare! 🤪

I legitimately want that for my personal use. Just gotta find out how to extract it.
