Simple as it was, this game already had some nuance to learn in the use of its guns. I felt satisfied whenever I caught the firing rhythm correctly and scored a kill without wasting a single shot - something a lot of later shooters could not boast about.
@@Valkod23 I've recently replayed through the Real RTCW mod and I can safely say that I still really *_F--KING HATE MUTANTS !_* Other than that it's still great.
Its civvie's brand of lowest effort """comedy""". I'm not German but damn even I knew how to pronounce such simple words. I always cringe at the whole "entitled youtuber fails to pronouns foreign words" trope.
I'm mad that I never realized the "Engine sees the door as open as soon as the animation starts" thing. So many deaths that I never understood, lol, so much rage.
When you said, "Fuck it, what am i trying to prove? I couldn't beat it on death incarnate on the game boy advance" It straight up sounded like you were gonna go into a rap.
Y'know, playing this game was strange for me as a kid. I was learning German at the time and I got oddly obsessed with it. Wolf3D is the first game that really got me into modding. I made an entire new game for myself about killing monsters as a sorcerer before I found out that Catacombs 3D was a thing that existed.
You know.... Coming back to this I did always find it odd that we never got a movie tie-in to Die Hard on the Wolfenstein engine. It would have been perfect to recreate Nakatomi Plaza with the 30 floors to the building, shooting terrorists with similar weapons. I don't know. It just always seemed liek the apt fit.
I remember watching my dad play this game when I was a kid. Occasionally he'd let me play, making the name of the easiest difficulty setting simply a description.
8:15 Mad Max made canned dog food look like the most delicious thing on the planet. The way he dug into it was just so enthusiastically. I'm not the only one who thought this, right?

Although I did eat a dog biscuit once. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it definitely could have used some salt.
I used to use the same guard-luring tactics in a lot of other games when I was younger. Now that I'm older I'm laughing at how they don't just grenade you and being grateful they didn't.

Civvie pronouncing General Fettgesicht is funny, but what funnier is is that when he said Fatface, he's not actually wrong. Fettgesicht is German for Fatface. XD
I think you're the first UA-camr I've seen talking about this game that mentioned the fact that you're able to drink blood off the floor at low health. It seems like that's not a very well known fact. I know I found out by pure accident a long time ago when I heard a random slurping sound and suddenly had more health.
I never knew that myself, probably because I'm almost never between 1 and 9 percent health. Most enemy shots take so much health that you easily go from 20% to dead in a single shot.
One of my most Fondest Memories growing up in my childhood was when I was 6 years old getting stuck in a push wall maze to try to find my way out. Wall humping audio still rings in my head.
15:12 Blake Stone has 66 levels, actually. In every episode, one secret level requires a secret red key card, and another is accessed via hidden teleporter.
Damn I've played this game so many times and yet I didn't know that blood and viscera on the floor regenerates health if your health is below 10. Awesome find indeed 👌
I loved this! Wolf 3D was the first FPS I ever played, when I was like 6+ years old. I think we had the shareware version, which only included the first episode... I thought the boss at the end was Hitler himself, and I killed him. Weirdly, it doesn't feel like I missed much, as the rest of the episodes seem to be just more of the same.
The thing about how Wolfenstein is great for portable gaming is so true, I first experienced the game through DOSBox on the tablet I had as a kid. It feels like it was designed almost like an early age iPhone mobile game, back before the market was polluted with ads and scummy pay to win shit. Super simple mechanics and tons of levels to slowly chip away at over years of killing time on the school bus or in waiting rooms. Still love it to this day.
One strategy which is really useful is to intentionally alert enemies. Like opening a door and make some noise and immediately retreat and clean them up as they come.

Simple as it was, this game already had some nuance to learn in the use of its guns. I felt satisfied whenever I caught the firing rhythm correctly and scored a kill without wasting a single shot - something a lot of later shooters could not boast about.

He never heard Rammstein, did he?
Oh god... I just tried using google translate to hear an attempt at a German pronunciation... it literally translates as Fat Face...
Its civvie's brand of lowest effort """comedy""". I'm not German but damn even I knew how to pronounce such simple words. I always cringe at the whole "entitled youtuber fails to pronouns foreign words" trope.

I can't believe I just now got the joke in Nocturnal Missions.
In my defense I can only say that I never really thought about it.
What joke?

You know.... Coming back to this I did always find it odd that we never got a movie tie-in to Die Hard on the Wolfenstein engine. It would have been perfect to recreate Nakatomi Plaza with the 30 floors to the building, shooting terrorists with similar weapons. I don't know. It just always seemed liek the apt fit.
IG that's what Going Down is for
I remember watching my dad play this game when I was a kid. Occasionally he'd let me play, making the name of the easiest difficulty setting simply a description.
8:15 Mad Max made canned dog food look like the most delicious thing on the planet. The way he dug into it was just so enthusiastically. I'm not the only one who thought this, right?
Tbh canned dog food reminds me a lot of dintymore beef stew in a can which is pretty good for canned food. Never tried eating dog food, but it definitely smells better than cat food. Although I did eat a dog biscuit once. It wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it definitely could have used some salt.
I mean, if you think about it, dogfood is basically a delicacy compared to eating corpse maggots.
You know what the song being played is?
Ah the old “I think the goal of this level is…” feeling. Pretty much sums up my entire experience of Kens Labyrinth.
I used to use the same guard-luring tactics in a lot of other games when I was younger. Now that I'm older I'm laughing at how they don't just grenade you and being grateful they didn't.
Oh man I can't wait for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, that game was my childhood.
And yeah the crypt levels traumatized me, but god dam did it not give me a hard on for fg42's and the venom gun.
Damn Civvie, your content is so good, you have developed your style in to a well refined art form. You and Katie are nailing this shit, the editing and pacing are almost perfect, and your scripts flow nicely and are generally interesting. This was great stuff dude. Thanks and well done.
Can I just say that whenever you put clips from a movie, like you did with Pennywise having a grand ol' time around 11:24, it cheers me up? I could have a shitty day but it's content like yours that brightens my day.

I think you're the first UA-camr I've seen talking about this game that mentioned the fact that you're able to drink blood off the floor at low health. It seems like that's not a very well known fact. I know I found out by pure accident a long time ago when I heard a random slurping sound and suddenly had more health.
I never even knew it, and I've played this game for over 20 years.
But then you'd get Nazi AIDS.

I never knew that myself, probably because I'm almost never between 1 and 9 percent health. Most enemy shots take so much health that you easily go from 20% to dead in a single shot.
@@FinalStarman95 Yeah, I think it's pretty uncommon to notice because it takes some pretty specific circumstances to happen.

I played this game to completion so many times when I was 14. I never knew about the whole under 10% health thing. Crazy.
This is my first game I ever played at like 6 with my dad and later alone. I can still hear the "Spion!" And "Schutzstaffel!" in my head sometimes...
15:12 Blake Stone has 66 levels, actually. In every episode, one secret level requires a secret red key card, and another is accessed via hidden teleporter.

I really like playing The Old Blood and jump-crouching around corners popping pistol rounds into these guys. Makes me feel like James Bond.

" *Wondering* About My Loved Ones " plays in the background

One strategy which is really useful is to intentionally alert enemies. Like opening a door and make some noise and immediately retreat and clean them up as they come.
That's worth doing a lot, but sometimes they stay put and wait for you anyway.

That episode 4 boss level has a secret pushwall next to the guard with his back turned next to the two keys. If you use that secret you get the two keys without ever waking up that entire room full of guards.
