    I have two C.L. Beautiful fish with great characters. Mine love bloodworm, I didn’t realise they ate what we call courgette, I have a Bristlenose Plec who loves the outer skin, I wondered where the rest was going! They don’t come out much during the day but are manic in the night.

    How big is your tank? It' looks lovely, especially the driftwood deco. How long have you been keeping those loaches? I just got 7 of them today. Tiny ones. 4 cm in length.

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  10 років тому +5

      Thanks for the kind words. The tank is 770 Gallons (10' long x 3' wide x 4' tall). One of my videos has me next to it so you can get perspective on the size. I've had this group of loaches for around 2 years. I've gotten into the practice of keeping newly acquired loaches at 85F for the first few weeks then gradually bringing the temps down to 80F. They seem to be really susceptible to Ich and the high temps help prevent an outbreak. Good luck with your shoal!

    • @aldiaz33

    what beautiful loaches!! :o
    how do you get them to have such rich colour even when theyre big?
    Also mine really do not seem to like zucchini, or cucumber, ive even tried pak choi, but i want to give them a varied diet :(

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  10 років тому +2

      Thank you. I'm not sure why their colors haven't faded like a lot of the older/larger clown loaches I've seen. Their standard diet is New Life Spectrum pellets (I rarely feed them Zucchini or Cucumber; maybe once every couple of months). I do 50% water changes about every 10 days or so. My nitrate levels are pretty much always below 20. They also have plenty of space to swim and lots of hiding spots. Not sure if those things have anything to do with their color, but it might.

      +Jch Nice! Keep an eye out for Ich. My new loaches almost always get it. If you notice white spots on them, increase the temperature to 86F for 4 weeks and do frequent water changes and it should clear up. Thanks for the kudos and good luck with your CLs.

    Hello.. I love clown loaches but they are the most difficult fish to survive for me.. I have red parrots angles sharks and catfish all doing fine but I always loose 2 out of 3 loaches when I add.. Any suggestions on curbing my KILL RATE would be most helpful.. thx Joe

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  7 років тому +1

      I have heard that keeping them in warmer water (85F-86F) for the first month or so is helpful. I'm not sure if it has to do with the fact that they are so susceptible to Ich and that Ich can't reproduce in those warmer temps, or if they just prefer warmer water, but IME that seems to help. Just make sure you have plenty of aeration, because warmer water holds less oxygen.Buying decent size loaches (3"+) is also helpful. The little 1" or 1.5" babies that you see being sold in the big chain pet stores aren't hardy at all. A loach with a little more size on it is going to have a much better chance at making the transition into your tank. Water quality is also really important with loaches. Frequent water changes are helpful. Make sure your ammonia and nitrite levels are zero and that your nitrate levels are low (the lower the better, but 20 or less is good). Good luck!

    Are there any plants that Clown Loach don't like ? They eat mine when they have done with the cucumber ! I invested a lot into plants which looked beautiful but are fast disappearing.

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  9 років тому +1

      I know there are some people who keep them in planted tanks without any problems at all and others who have experienced issues like you are having. I don't think I can really help you here (all my plants are plastic). Outside of changing the type of plants you have (which might work), another option may be to change out the entire school of CLs so that hopefully you get a group that doesn't have a taste for them. I had a group of CLs that would actively hunt other fish like a pack of wolves (I think they picked this up from watching my Oscar eat minnows), but I also know of people who keep CLs with tiny fish without problems. Like most fish, their personality can vary from one fish to another, but since they are a schooling fish, the habit of one of them tends to turn into the habit of the entire group. Hope it works out for you. Live plants are awesome, but I have too many fish that eat them, so I'm stuck with fake.

    • @DORKSIDE616
      @DORKSIDE616 9 років тому +1

      Alex Diaz I thought your plants were real. They look good. I can't part with my Clown Loach so I suppose I am stuck with it. They are very clever and act very differently to other fish. As you said they do act like a pack together. Mine are only interested in destroying plants though and not other fish, thank goodness. Thank you :)

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  9 років тому +1

      Susan Field Thanks Susan. The long vines are from an arts and craft store and when they get a little algae growth on them, they tend to look realistic. In regards to the CLs, they definitely live up to their names, don't they?

  • @jimmyle1221

    how long did you leave the cucumber in before they started to eat it?

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  9 років тому +1

      Jimmy Le The first time I dropped it in, it took them maybe a minute or two to start chomping on it. The loaches are the only fish in the tank that I did not raise from babies, so there's a chance that the previous owners fed them zucchini or cucumber. They really seem to like it and took to it pretty much right away.

    I just got 30 gal tank with some fishes and I've got 2 of those about 2" size. Just worried they are getting food. Because the food usually stays on the surface and eaten by other fishes. What do you advise?

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  4 роки тому +1

      Eventually they should learn to come to the surface to feed (mine have), but you should feed sinking pellets since they are naturally bottom feeders. 👍

      @@aldiaz33 are they friendly with carpet plants? I want to set up an aquascape wondered should I consider carpet plants or not

    • @aldiaz33
      @aldiaz33  4 роки тому +1

      @@VugZ That should be fine. I don't believe they eat plants, but I've never had live plants in my tank. Some of the other fish I keep are herbivores, so they would destroy any plants I put with them.
