"To me someone actually breeding clown loaches is amazing." Until seeing this guy do it, I was under the impression that breeding clown loaches in captivity was nearly impossible. I guess it took someone dedicated enough and clever enough to figure out how to do it.
This is still not natural breeding. To trigger natural breeding is still nearly impossible - and it is the only way to breed small and very small loaches such as the pandas. I work on Yoyo loaches and different water as well as lower temperatures seem very important (yoyos aren't tropical fish like clowns). So far the eggs were always eaten, so next I will have a breeding tank with very rough gravel in it. The microworms are a great advice for me too to use sinking live food for the fry if I get it to hatch.
My clown loaches have bred twice after doing a large water change with cooler water. My loaches are approx 15 years old and the females are the biggest at around a foot long and thick.... I think they just need a good sized tank, a powerhead for current, lots of places to hide, and lot of love ;)
To the people who gave this video a thumbs down......there really is no pleasing you or you are simply an uneducated newbie, that can not appreciate how cool and rare breeding clown loaches really is.
Probably a bunch of misguided people who think that all captive breeding is bad, despite the fact that it actually reduces the strain on wild populations.
You made my day. I love clown coaches and it was a real treat to see them in this video. Go glad that experts are working on breeding them in captivity.
Thatt's awesome. Anything to keep from depleting them from the wild. Plus I'm sure it's easier to make sure the stock are healthy since there's less chance of parasites and whatnot. Love clowns. Used to have some big ones until I had an almost complete tank wipeout :(
I feel another 3 year breeding project coming along. We'll need to get a bunch of them from him and settle on a good feeding regiment. The color on his males was amazing!
Wow! Now I wanna order some clown loaches! I ordered some upside down catfish from this guy a while back and they were (and still are) beautiful healthy fish. 🐟
Can you do a more in depth video on how he maintains his water and modify his PH, plus feeding regimen for juveniles; filter system and water changes. :) this is super interesting.
Kind of reminds me of the crazy variations when saltwater clownfish were being produced as picassos, snowflakes, etc. Cory, Does this guy sell to the public?
Luckily, here in Sarasota, Florida, we have a local guy who breeds em & sell em cheap to one of our local mom&pop shops...! Loved the video...! Keep your awesomeness & go find some nature to enjoy daily...!!!
@claudiavega3101 Bioaquatix is the guys 'name' featured in the Aquarium Co-op UA-cam video. Wet Pets is the local store that got em in the past, but he(Bioaquatix) is open to the public now, so I'm not sure if he 'wholesales' anymore... He only does the clown loaches once per year nowadays... I'm not sure if Bioaquatix will ship fish, but I know that Wet Pets does NOT ship fish...! If you're local to the west coast of Florida, just Google them and follow the directions... If you're not, you're probably outta luck... I hope this was helpful...
last year I quit my job at petsmart but before I left I sold myself some clown loaches guppies hatchetfish and an eclipse catfish. My clown loaches is only 2.5” long and they eat hikari sinking wafers
"... If it doesn't fit in their mouth, they're not going to eat it." That describes my platy, even the fry. They're very picky about food size. It's annoying and frustrating and a lot of food is wasted. They rather look for smaller, easily eaten food than bother with chewing. 🙄 I don't know much about clown loaches, but I like the look of them. From the comments, I understand they're hard to breed in captivity, so this is cool.
An interesting future topic would be how these guys figure out breeding a fish when there's little or no known information. Do you just take many stabs at everything (parameters, food, etc)?
I asked for an algae eater and was sold one of these beautiful fish. Got it home and thought it looked more like a cat. Hides a lot and only comes out at night or if I take away it little hiding place. He doesn't seem to fit the profile. Could it be because he was in the tank with an aggressive Angel fish for awhile? WAS NOT TOLD THEY GROW SO BIG!!! Mine is still kinda small after a year but is growing. Love him but never see him unless I remove the little sea chest he stays in.
You made me research weather loaches! I read that some of them like to be petted? That they chillax at the bottom, propped on their elbows & want to be pet?
No hormones. But it isn't natural either: He needs to get them to carry eggs and semen, then he extracts both from the fish, mixes it with a little water in a bucket and incubates the eggs. This is how salmons and trouts are bread as well as many other fish for consumption.
After having aquariums for over 40 years Fish ALWAYS do better in a tank that resemble a Wild Environment. No Fake Plants and No colored Rocks, make the tank as Real and Natural Looking as possible.
OK Cory, so I happen to know that Clown Loaches are one of your favorite fish, did you get him to give you his secret after the camera stopped rolling? I remember a conversation( back in the slow early days) where you said that as far as you knew "breeding them in captivity was not possible".
My only question is: Does he breed them in the vats or move them to an aquarium in pairs? I could watch clown loach videos all day long! It looks like his are the Borneo strain. I want the one with the dot on it!
Awesome video. Where does this guy breed his loaches? I just noticed the link in the video very pricey Clown Loaches, one of my favorite fish as it has a ton of personality. Thanks!
I have 5 mature clown loaces, I've had them for 4/5years. About 3yrs ago 2 yoyo loaches appeared in my tank. I've never had one, nor had I heard of them at the time between them arriving was a min of 3yrs. I continually read how difficult loaches are to breed. If so where did these come from. Any advice?
I have tried Clown Loaches a few times, one point he mentions is feeding. I found trying to find something they like almost impossible, I went with some recommendations from the fish store but nothing seemed to please them.
You can see the rest of his farm in this tour: ua-cam.com/video/Pu6fRfPQUKc/v-deo.html&t

@@demarest3187 - I suppose so, but that doesn't take anything away from how cool this is.

Darren Reeves any baby’s or do they eat the eggs
Those are some of the nicest clown loaches I've ever seen
In both color and temperament!
we owe him a huge thank you--- this is great for us and the environment taking less fish out of the wild if you dont need to
At the moment i think we need to be taking as many fish out the amozon as possible because tge amozon is burning down.
@@theredstonedud1622 thats kind of an interesting view but if we develop breeding techniques we wouldnt have to rely on that
@@Icharis i agree with that as well.
@@theredstonedud1622 BTW just for the record though--- clown loaches arent from the amazon
@@Icharis whhhhhhaaaaaaaaaat i spent my whole life thinking they where from the amozon! Thank you for that fact!
That was awesome. Anybody can be a hobbyist but not a breeder. So much time, knowledge, and dedication put into breeding fish. Thanks for sharing.
One of your best videos! The clown loaches are gorgeous! And the fact, that this fishes are captive bred is remarkable!
Dark color and super healthy ! This guy is a genius !
Respect for that Gentleman. More videos like that please - this is really awesome!

Probably people who don't like to see fish being taken out of the water.
Just dont worry about those people. There are ALWAYS people down-voting even the most uplifting, positive videos.

I wonder if they dislike videos of climbing perches jumping out of water in the wild.

Those are beautiful fish. Great guy to interview too
Great video. I was getting really hooked on all the information he was giving. I could have watched for another hour.
I'm a big fan of these and had them over the years. You'll be amazed how big they can grow.

That must have been a really sad day. I just lost one that was almost 27 years old. They become like a pet, moreso than most aquatics.
I feel another 3 year breeding project coming along. We'll need to get a bunch of them from him and settle on a good feeding regiment. The color on his males was amazing!

Awesome colors! I got one that the stripe doesn't go all the way down so it looks like he is wearing a saddle. We call him "Rodeo clown"
Those underwater shots were cool

Take my hat off. I know two guys here in Australia who’ve been trying for years with no success. Great video
It's so cool to see the way the different stripes form and merge together. Another awesome video Cory!
So pumped to see some one dedicated enough to actually breed these beauties!

My all time favorite fish!! Have raised a few to over 8 inches...

I am assuming he strips the eggs from the females and the milt for the males and produces fry much like a trout hatchery, correct?
