      Hi there from scotland.
      I have 3 clown loaches in a community tank including angel fish. But I noticed the loaches have been nibbling into a bigger live angel, I have separated them but the angel refuses to eat and his wound went from scabbing to what looks like fluffy, what can I do to heal the angel fish

      From my experience when a clown loach feigns death by turning completely upside down, it's trying to tell you that it's stressed out. It might be that tank is too cold or hot; I believe the clown loach is trying to get the owner's attention.

    I've got 3 clown loaches atm and 1 red tail shark, they seem to have taken the shark in. The shark mimics everything they do, plays and sleeps with them. It's real fun to see. Unfortunately I lost one loach yesterday to ich. Having a hard time getting rid of it. Lost a very expensive pleco yesterday too :/

    I had 10 medium-large, Clown Loaches in my 75 gallons angels tank filled with fine sand. They had the amusing habit of using small ceramic ornaments as soccer balls. Four or five of them would nudge it to the left and then an interception would get them going in the opposite direction. Their playfulness reminded me of dolphins.

    One of my favorite fish by far!! I've researched and studied on Freshwater Aquarium Fish for many years, and I used to own a Aquarium. I had a couple Clown Loach, and they were intriguing and very interesting fish!! I heard them click, they would follow my finger, they we're very fun to watch swim, and just had the absolute wonderful personality!! 🥰🧡🖤

    I've had good luck treating clown loaches with ick by bringing the tank temp up to 86F and leaving it there for 3 weeks or longer, along with using a UV sterilizer (kills the free-swimming form of the ick parasite). A small amount of salt in the water can help with the treatment as well, but go easy on it as loaches tend to be sensitive to salt.

    We had a 3" Clown Loach in a 125 gal. It started letting the intake of an Emperor 400 suck him up against the strainer. I freaked the first time I saw it. But, we would see it hang there quite often. Crazy. Great video on Clowns.

    Thank you for providing such an informative video. I have a dozen 2"-3" clown loaches in a 180 gallon which I plan to add barbs, tetras and gouramis. They hide whenever the aquarium lights are on, but as soon as I turn off the lights, they slowly come out from the driftwood and ceramic rocks I've provided. They've only been in this aquarium for a week. I'm hoping they'll become less afraid when the lights on as they are during feeding time.

    I have 3 (babies maybe 3" long) in a planted community tank with 4 Blue Gourami 9, Cherry Barbs, 1 Blood Gourami, and ??? Snails. They absolutely are my favorites in the tank. I found it funny that they like to lay next to my large Male Blue Gourami while he sleeps. It's almost like they are protecting him. They keep the snail population under control and they also love flake food. Very cool fish. I plan on keeping them and going up to a 300 gallon when they are big enough. They're currently in a 90 gallon.

    Can you answer me this, I have 4 medium sized clown loaches in a 75-100 gallon with a large Common Pleco, they are constantly chewing its large sail fin to pieces. I have 1clown loach(impulse buy with the intention of getting more) in my 75 gallon mixed Malawi tank. He has been doing great, always out and active but I'm trying to convince myself to rehome him instead of getting more... but I really love loaches. I've had this guys for 4 years or so and I'm pretty torn now. I was thinking of replacing him with a smaller variety but don't have a back up tank in case that doesn't work. My gut tells me I should just get some synodontis cats... the fish keepers dilemma! Great video, thanks for sharing.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  7 років тому +4

      Sometimes it can be hard to add fish to an established African Cichlid tank so I feel your pain. You might be able to trade him at an LFS - larger clowns can sometimes bring in a decent return. Synodontis are cool - I have them in 4-5 tanks and they are fun to watch too!

    The physical tone of Chromobotia macracanthus does not darken if the individual animal is in distress. In fact, it’s the complete opposite.
    Clown Loaches do darken, but in due course to the surrounding environment. If their captive environment receives a high amount of LED or natural sunlight, then the side-effect as stated above, will occur.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  6 років тому +1

      Interesting, the ones I have kept over the years do the exact opposite. If they are being chased or bullied they darken. I do agree substrate color matters to a degree regarding their color.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  6 років тому +2

      Hey Michael - it could be a lot of things. I think most clown loaches hide when the lights are on. Mine actually do quite a bit as well, except when they know it's around feeding time. Sometimes larger groups help, reducing light intensity, making sure other fish aren't chasing them around or stressing them, size (they seem more confident as they get older), but most of the time it's just kind of what they do.

    How do you keep nitrates low? Mine are stuck on 80ppm since I got eco complete plant substrate but when I had regular gravel I never had a problem.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  7 років тому +2

      I have never used eco complete, but when it comes to nitrates there is only two things you can do. 1) Get lots of plants to utilize the nitrates. 2) Water changes. Perhaps there just isn't enough plant growth yet?

      You may want to check your nitrates at the tap too. The tank looks fairly heavily planted. If you are using liquid ferts you could try cutting down on them too.

    Its really an awesome tank, I have clown loaches with barbs and going great, But i really like to make a new tank with Severums and approx of 100-120 Galon tank, can you please suggest, Whats filtration i have to use for it? Do i have to use Canister, Powerhead, Under Gravel using pipes with Air Pumps, As in Pakistan We have most aquarium shops like to have Under Gravel one with Power Head ones, Is it fine? And whats your suggestion for it?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  7 років тому +1

      I think everything you mentioned would work just fine. I've had 125 gallon tanks with nothing but 3 sponge filters. I've also had 150 gallon tanks using only two hang on back filters (Penguin 400s). The under gravel filters are great as long as none of the fish will be digging in the gravel. Canister filters will provide lots of flow and cut down on the visibility of the filtration system if that's important to you. Should be fun to set-up! Congrats!

    I was planning on getting a 75 gallon tank with 1 oscar and 3 clown loaches. After watching this video idk if that's a good idea. If i were to do a set up that gives my loaches some sort of tunnel system with lots of places for them to hide. Would that be ok? I dont care to actually see the loaches. Just want some bottom feeder to scavenge any left over food from the oscar and co-exist in peace and be happy. Thoughts on this @Prime Time Aquatics? Or anyone?

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  4 роки тому +1

      It will be an ok set-up for about six months, but once the oscar gets closer to full size you will probably want to upgrade to a 6ft tank. The loaches will get big too.
