Always the most amazing playing and tones (and sound). A pleasure to watch...
Gos wo Thanks man. I appreciate your support :)
How come I didn't know about this channel before!!!!!
Listening to your album on Spotify, sounds great man!
Thanks man, så awesome to hear that 🙏🙏🙏
Nice Pedalboard. Great explanation of Sounds. I have the Free the Tone Tri-Avatar Multidimensional Chorus. Phenomenal Chorus Pedal. They make Great Pedals.
Michael Caz Thank you 😊 I agree FTT make super high quality stuff. Cheers
beautiful sound!! great job!!
peter0822 Thank you very much :)
Very nice!!
Thank you Bill :)
Boy, love that Telecaster Simon, sorry to be off subject...
TheCrystalyne Don’t be sorry - I love it too 😀
Simon, i use a crunchy amp and boost it with an “always on” green maxon od808, however i just added a BB preamp with mid boost to add a little top end and mids for solos. Because i love your tone so much, im asking where you would put the BB,before or after the maxon? Thanks!
Ps....you may have also sold me on the super sweet and the xotic wah, they are Awsome.and your playing is so extremely on point and soulful,im so happy I found your channel, thanks!!!!!
boogieplex Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Don´t know if you still want my thoughts but I would put the BB last because that is the pedal you will hear the most and I like the sound og the BB :) Thank you very much for your comments Cheers Simon
Outstanding review of your board, thanks! What speakers are you using to get this tone? So much bite!
boogieplex Thank you very muc. The cab is an IR of my Marshall 412 cab with 30w Celestions. Cheers Simon
Thanks for sharing tips. Awesome playing and tone, really emotional. I would really appreciate your opinion (hopefully a comparison video?) on FT-2Y and FF-1Y. Is it the latter an evolution of the former or a complete different pedal? Looking at FT-2Y for a long while and now wondering if FF-1Y is somehow overlapping on tones that one can get.
mmo1968 Thank you, I am glad you can use the video.
I have actually promised FTT to do a comparison video of those two delays soon 😊 just a little busy at the moment. The FF is a new design and a different delaypedal. But the FT is also great and with different features - so it is very much a matter of what you want and need. I prefer the FF myself because it just sounds so great and I find it easy to get great sounds.
Cheers Simon
@@SimonGotthelfMusic Hi Simon, let me know if you will run this comparison between FT-2Y and FF-1Y in a video. Thanks very much for sharing your thoughts and opinions.
@@mmo1968 I promise I will. Should have done it months ago but time flies... I will, I will, I will :)
Awesome tone 🔥🔥🔥.... What amp and guitar speakers in this video?
Thanks man. I use my 1965 Bassman and Komet 29 (in stereo) in this video. Both are running through a Reactive Load to my DAW. I use an IR of my Marshall 412 with 30w Celestions. Cheers Simon
Like it! Question: The bridge pickup on your Tele is humbucker or singlecoil in humbucker case? Thank you.
Mato Misik Thank you. It is a Lollar P90 pickup. Really great 🤘
@@SimonGotthelfMusic Ok. Jason Lollar makes great stuff. I have bunch of his pickups on my guitars. Thank you Simon.
Mato Misik I agree. My favorite pickups
This a great pedalboard man ! I have also the same Xotic wha. What is the settings of the wha for this video? Thank you for your response! Steve
Steve Oyvaert Hi Steve. Thanks man. I am very happy with this board. The wah settings change from song to song depending on what I am doing but for this video the settings were 12 o´clock except treble at 11 and bass at 1 o´clock. Cheers Simon
Hi Simon, thanks for the great tips - two questions: 1) Do you recommend a flow for the pedals? Bottom right to top left? 2) Is a mono setup a good idea for most people? I'm getting the FTT AMBI SPACE which does stereo, but I am a simple bedroom/small gigs guy, do I just get the Free The Tone JB-21 (one input one output) or just get the one you got? For recording and such, is stereo that useful?
Karura7 Hi. Sorry for the late reply. Well it depends, some like boost pedals before overdrives, some like them after. Different things, Iike both :) Wah first IMO, then comp and boost/overdrives. Wet effects last in chain. If you play mono (and that is great too) you might not need stereo ins/out but it depends if you want to be able to insert pedals into the signal chain. I also have MIDI in to the board through the SJB. For recording mono is often the way to go. Cheers Simon
Great tone!!!!! What amp and speakers?
Alexander Rostovtsev Thanks man, I am using the Suhr Reactive Load and an impulse Response of my own 412 Marshall cab, Cheers
Great video ! So the Free the Tone are plugged stereo to the junction box. Do you often play it like that in only one amp ?
Pierre Canonne Yes I run both in stereo and mono. It depends on the job/song. It is connected in stereo to the Junction box so I can use it like that, but if I unplug the Komet 29 I run mono into the Bassman and run the delays in series. It works great. Cheers Simon
The blend to the left is your ur
amp ? And clockwise its the pedal and the amp, but more the pedals gain? I can’t really figure that knob out. I have the standard. I want as much gain as possible and I can’t play real loud in our apt. You’ve helped me a few times before. Thank you Simon. You’re a classy and nice and helpful guy plus obviously a great guitarist. FYI I am subbed. 😉
Yea I was watching very late and had the sound so low as to not wake my wife so I missed that part where I asked about the blend. It’s daytime now so I can hear what u said and can hear the pedal. Sorry about that. You probably thought I was an idiot. I’m not. Was just unable to hear. lol.
Robert Wellington Not at all :) I get your question. And you are right, the more I turn the blend counter clockwise it will blend in more of the clean guitar signal or amp tone. But I boost the amp with the pedal too so that sound will also be overdriven. But it is a clearer sound and I like to have a bit of clean blended in. It works with this pedal. Ask anytime :) Cheers Simon
Robert Wellington no problem 😊
Hi Simon, I keep coming back to this video, just a quick question, I know that your tried both Compact Deluxe and stacked, can you share with us why you chose the compact Deluxe on your board and not the stacked one?
Sure. Both are great and I have made videos for both of them and also a video comparison for Sweetwater Gearfest 2020 about the compressors. I love them. However I always thought that the Cali76 CD was perfect. I did the test when they came out (CD and SlideRIG) and I knew right away that it was the comp for me. The Stacked edition can do something else and has even longer sustain but my Cali76 is like an always on pedal and it gives plenty of sustain and boost (for me). If I played more slide guitar I would probably go with the stacked edition. Cheers Simon
I might have missed it in the video but is the order of the pedals in the signal path the same as the list in the description? That is, guitar>wah>Cali76>SuperSweet>RevivalDrive>EP>delay>reverb, etc? Everything into front of amp, correct? Always enjoy your gear demos and it's fascinating to get insight to your personal preferences that resulted in this board.
Matt Kozink Hi Matt. Thanks. Yes that is the signal path. The breakout box sits between the ep and the wet effects. That is where I insert the Volumepedal or new pedals I am checking out. It also gives me a dry send if I need that. After delay and reverb I run stereo out through the breakout box again to my amps (stereo or mono). Everything in front of my amps but I could use the wet effects in an effects loop if I wanted to. Cheers Simon
Great sound! Especially if you compare with most of the youtuber that have an awful sound and they make tones of useless videos with orrible sound and keep on chattering how good its their tones.... Where they have their own ears? In their ba.... Please link your video and let them listen and shut their sound off. Please.
Anyway, as you, I use a buffer, I use the same Xotic wha and I love the xotic efxs (bb c.s. mid pot edt and brute drive), I use a diamond comp P. Cochran Timmy and Strymon Timeline with ToneCandy reverb but most of the sound are very similar (cleans, light crunchy, distorted a lead sound...) and I take a lot of ideas from the tube, but I had to looking tons and tons of videos for findout good sound like your.
Fabrizio Gabriele Thank you very much for your support :) Cheers Simon
Curious about the board it's self? Did you build the base, is it wood, using velcro? Also it seems to be sitting in a roadcase?
Is that custom spec?... Your tone as always like Butter!! Thx for your videos!!
Rusty Milner Hi Rusty and thanks man. It is an awesome board in a flight case with extra room for cables and stuff. It was made for me by my good friend at pedaler.eu. He made it for my 2017 pedalboard where he also did all the cable work. Some pedals on this board are the same (Cali and ep and power) but the free the tone pedals and Revival drive did a clean knockout on my old (great) pedals 😊
Cheers Simon
@@SimonGotthelfMusic Thanks so much for the Link and Reply! I did go back to see your older video that showed board details. Looks Great ! Neat and simple!
Your tone is so good! By far Best on UA-cam!! Curious though, How do you keep it so clean and noise free?
Rusty Milner Thanks again. Well noise has always been important to me to get rid off. I don´t want to use a pedal if it makes any noise or hum. And I also choose my cables from what I hear as the most open natural sounding and with great shield = no noise and signal degration. Same goes for the power supply. And I have gotten use to operate my volume pedal all the time so whenever I am not playing I kill the signal. Volume pedal is before my wet effects so delays and verb can breathe... Many little things that are all important. It is a habit from all my live gigs I did for about 10-15 years... you really learn the hard way if your rig is not noise free when playing big venues or festivals... :)
FOH guys are going to kill you or simply turn you down in the mix. But if you sound great they are going to make sure you will be heard
What brand is the flightcase & board?
The board was made for me by pedaler.eu about 2 years ago. Great board with room for cables and stuff. If you check out my 2018 pedalboard video you can see the board and flightcase and everything. Thanks :)
Are the ambi space and future factory still your main reverb and delay?
I don’t use a pedalboard anymore actually because I live in the studio World.
I use the AxeFX3 or plugins for wet Effects.
But if I was playing live with a pedalboard they would be. That delay is just awesome and so musical. Reverb is cool too but I could use a simple spring Reverb since I am always using delays first and Reverb is just a touch of Air. Cheers Simon
What are your 4 inputs and outputs on the junction box?
Send Return to my volume pedal (breakout after overdrives) and stereo out to amps. Cheers Simon
i also prefer the sound of unbuffered wah and fuzz.
Stephen Chow Definetly Fuzz but the wah is not so sensitive. I do like you say prefer to have it first in line and unbuffered... I did a lot of testing with and without a buffer in front and ended up having a buffer right after the wah. It works great. Cheers Simon
How do you connect the junction box?
Kittipos Pongtawevirat In between my overdrive/boost pedals and the wet effects. After the ep booster I go out of the board into the volume pedal and back via out 1+2 on the SJ box. Cheers Simon
What amp?
darryl weller 1965 Fender Bassman and Komet 29
small pedalboard?
Andre P LOL well, small for me. I use to run GIGA pedalboards. I think compact is the word. Lots of great pedals in a tight Space.
What's the actual pedalboard?
What pickups on the strat?
Chili SheepDog Raw Vintage 60s 😊
Simon Gotthelf Gear Demos Thanks. They sound so nice!
Chili SheepDog 👍 great pickups
meticulous you are, simon...
barkup atree I think you are right. A Real guitar nerd 😀
