  • DVL-1 SERIES / DIRECT VOLUME - FULL-ROTATION BELT-DRIVE SYSTEM
As well as great sound quality and durability, a smooth and musical volume change is required in an ideal volume pedal. The Full-Rotation Belt-Drive system in the Free The Tone “DVL-1 series/ Direct Volume" has been newly developed by identifying problems in conventional volume pedals in order to embody this ideal volume pedal.
Unlike usual mechanisms that use a string to rotate a variable resistor, the Free The Tone’s unique Full-Rotation Belt-Drive system adopts a gear and belt mechanism to drive the variable resistor linearly and link pedal operation directly to volume change. Volume is controlled smoothly and musically with smooth rotation and an optimized volume curve. The belt used in this mechanism is reinforced with wires to provide excellent durability and to prevent elongation or breakage from heavy use or aging.
General passive type volume pedals have a problem in which pressing the pedal to its full toe-down position does not turn the variable resistor all the way to the clockwise end because there is an unusable rotation range and therefor the signal level may decrease when connecting that volume pedal even after matching impedances of your devices. The Full-Rotation Belt-Drive system in the DVL-1 series has been carefully designed so that the variable resistor fully rotates from its minimum to maximum positions so the above problem does not occur.

I think I need one of everything on display here - including the fingers, sinews, tendons, muscle memory etc.

Edward Cox Ha ha Thank you. I will ask Free The Tone to include everything with the volume pedal :) Cheers Simon

Hi Simon, thanks for video as usual. I see that your guitar is passive (not active pickups) but you are using the DVL-1L version of this pedal (which is designed for active pickups) instead of the DVL-1H (which is for passive pickups). Is there any reason you picked the DVL-1L instead? I thought maybe because you are going to use it AFTER the drive/fuzz/compressor pedals (some of them might be active), but then I realized in the video that you are also using it BEFORE those as well and right after the guitar.
Can you please shed some lights on this? I'm interested in getting one of these and I'm going to use it mostly for swells (after drive/compression/fuzz units) and also in the FX-Loop of my amps. Should I get the DVL-1L then? How about if I decide to use it before the drive section? will it work fine even though this model is designed for active pickups?
    Cheers!

      konnektlive Hi 😊
Mine is the H-version so I can use it before (which is what I mostly do) and after... cheers Simon

    Really like your sound!
Was wondering about EP and Super Sweet boosters on your pedalboard
Where do they go and what do you you them for in this case?
    Thanks!

Thanks man. I don’t use them in this video but the Super Sweet I use to boost my overdrive and the ep is last in the chain for color and boost. Great pedals
      Cheers Simon

      @@SimonGotthelfMusic i got it.
I also noticed that you used Super Clean and then switched to EP. Or vice versa :)
      Why?

@@MK-tj5bf I have used the ep booster since it came out as the last pedal in chain. I love what it does to the overall sound.
I tried the Super Clean in that position and it is a fine boost pedal but doesn’t have the warm tone and colour

      Interesting
I should try all of them to figure out what I like the most. Thanks for your answers

Dear Simon! I’ve been looking for a VP, that doesn’t screw up my tone... Have you tried putting it into the chain after drive? So you can adjust the same driven sound for rythm and lead?

Perry Stenbäck yes I started out testing it that way in my board loop. I have an in/out loop on the board (through the signal junction box) after my overdrive / boosters. Works great into a perfectly clean amp 😊
