  • How to transport ebike. In this video I show how I transport our Lectric ebike.
I purchased a 40 gallon tote at Lowe in order to transport and store our Lectric XP folding ebike Cost was $21.85. I use the tote to store and transport our Lectric ebike in the back seat area of my truck.

What a great idea. We have two Lectric bikes and we load them into the back of a Hyundai Tucson. They fit OK, however, I have to lean them to one side to keep them from tipping over. I think this will solve that problem. Thanks for sharing.

So I reviewed several videos before settling on a tote suitable for mine. My situation is that I need to put my Lectric XP 2.0 in the back seat of a 2011 Mercedes C300. It will not fit in the trunk and I don't feel comfortable carrying it on my trunk-mounted bike carrier rated for 70 lbs - those skinny straps don't give me a high degree of confidence. So after watching vids and thinking about 50-70 gallon containers, I settled on a Craftsman 50 gallon tote from Lowes. My bike fits with enough room to sit low and if I remove the handlebar it will fit inside the container also. This container cost $44.98 with latching lid. I lined my rear doorway with a blanket and placed it wheels-first into the opening and, with a mighty shove, got it inside with no problem, by myself. Removing it from the car was a piece of cake. It is probably a good idea that I didn't opt for a larger tote.

Leaving that bit of lid for rigidity was a stroke of genius. Definitely " thinking outside the box"! LOL I just bought some Lowes 40 gal totes for our new XP step-thru's. Will trim them to fit. Thanks. Your video actually convinced me to go with Lectric's for their extreme folded compactness.

Nice video. We have 2 Rad Mini ST and use the Craftsman Crate with wheels. The sides of our crate did crack because we didn't use the "Lid Idea," hopefully I'll be able to patch it and then fasten the Lid to the sides with Pop Rivets to reinforce the crate. BTW, we remove the battery from the bike, (to reduce the weight) before lifting it into our vehicle. This saves 8 pounds/12%, which my 72 years old back likes!

I agree with a couple things here..... The tires and chains on bikes are ALWAYS dirty so being able to heft them into a pickup truck with the tote is perfect. I have a cap on my truck (lined with a bedrug) and we sleep in it when camping as well so keeping the sand and dirt from tires off it is important.

Bought my new Lectric XP in December, 2020. Then I saw your great video and tried it myself. Cut the lid as you did to give the top of the tote extra regidity. BUT, I found that wheels would not go all the way in as the deraileur seems to be sticking out more than yours and won't go into box. Since it sits with all of the weight on the yellow frame, it's not stable and won't work for me. However, you offered a great idea, and I'm looking at a slightly larger 50-gal tote that may work better. Are the newer XP's wider?

    • @ouRVisionnomadicliving
      @ouRVisionnomadicliving  3 роки тому +2

Hi Phil, thanks for watching and commenting. I'm sorry you are having issues. Over time I too have found that it's easier to put the bikes into the tote, then to put the yellow lid onto the tote with the bike in the tote. It takes a little finagle. We got a second bike in Nov. 2019 and I put it in a tote as well, and they both fit great in the back seat area of my truck. Going to a 50 gallon tote wouldn't work for me as then the two totes would be too wide to sit in the truck. I hope you find a solution. Take care!! Sean

@@ouRVisionnomadicliving Hi Sean and thanks for responding for sure! Time sure does fly 👍👍
I just picked up one of these totes and ordered my 3.0 yesterday! Lucky enough to have a Lectric dealer about 30 min from our home so that made it a lot easier.
Just lost half my right foot from an infection over the past year and I need to find an alternative to walking about 10 miles a day for exercise. Need something outside that will be less stressful on my feet. Only planning on riding on the bike trails as there are a lot of “rails to trails” here in the Buckeye state. Hoping this all works out ……I’ve been waiting for someone who is trading in there 2.0 on the new 3.0 and just buy a used one to try out this summer but no such luck. Dealer explained that most folks just buy a new one and keep their old one too.
Thanks again for the great video and response. Please stay safe out there and have a blessed summer.

Hi, well we have 2 of these Lectric XP bikes a coming to us very soon, and I have no plans on putting them on a bike rack, so our plan was to put them in a container as you described, how well did yours fit in the back seat of your truck? I know I can haul them in the back of the truck once I unhitch my 5ver but during travel days I am just trying to figure out how to transport them. I don't think I could get 2 in the back seat in these containers..... Thanks for your feedback. It would be good for a follow up video as to how your are transporting and there they fit etc. Thanks

Hi, thanks for watching. As for the lid. Where the lid came with the tot I felt that cutting out the center and using the "ring" would provide more rigidity as the bikes are heavy. I then put the cut out piece in the bottom of the tote as well to help give the bottom of the tot a bit more protection. 👍 🍻 Sean

We don't have ours yet, but trying to plan ahead as to what the best way it to transport them around town as well as when we go out with the RV. We will have two XP's, so I have been wondering if two totes will fit in the back seat of my crew cab GMC truck or if they will need to go in to the bed. When traveling with the RV our little dog rides in the back seat, so then at least one or maybe both will have to go to the bed.

Hi, so, my question is, isn't that tote going to be a pain for one person to remove the XP from? Much easier to let gravity do the work to place it in, but seems to me, if one person tries to lift it out, the tote may actually lift up with the XP.

    • @ouRVisionnomadicliving

The bike does take a little finesse putting in and removing it from the tote, however the benefits it provides make that worth it to me. No idea, my bikes are the original version 1 bikes. I do have some accessories on my bikes, such as mirror, (on the end of the handlebars) and drink carriers attached to the handlebar stem. So it may just depend on what your adding. Thanks for watching.

I have mirrors, front and back basket. I just got my bike a few days ago. I haven't put everything on yet. Just wondering. Thanks

Hey Jerome, thanks for watching and commenting. Actually I can't as the 50 gallon totes would be to large. Due to the size of the 40 gallon totes, I am able to put two totes with bikes side by side in the backseat of my 09 Mega Cab Dodge. The 40 gallon totes have been fantastic, still using them for over 4 years at this point.

In a year from now there will be twenty more videos of this same type. There are already too many. Find something more original.

I made that video in Sept. 2019, it was the first one. Can't get more original than being the first. 👍
