How to Transport a Lectric XP Folding Fat Tire Ebike In the Trunk of a Car

  • When I first got the Lectric XP, it was my hope that I could take the Ebike with me in my 2016 Toyota Camry LE. I searched the internet for a long time trying to find evidence that it would fit in my car's trunk so I could take the Lectric with me 9 miles down the road to the car dealership when I needed to do routine services. Everything I could find on the internet only told me that the Lectric XP could fit in a tote or in an SUV or Tesla. It was so strange...
    I decided I would do my best to figure it out myself and was pleasantly surprised that the Lectic XP Step-Thru does indeed fit in the trunk of the Toyota Camry safely.
    I will show a few simple tips I found work best to make the loading and unloading as easy as possible to prevent any damage to the Lectric or car.

      Do you know what before I even got done finishing reading that comment I had already read your mind because I feel the same way!!💕 I drive a Toyota Camry and that is one of the reasons why I chose this bike because of the beauty of how it folds to fit in the car, but also to be stored in your home or your garage with a smaller footprint! :0)

    Watch other videos demonstrating how one can transport without any lifting heavy foldable fat tire like Lectric XP3 e-bike. Simply slide the folded bike to raised vertically 38x21-inch plastic cargo tote/bin, then slide the container with folded e-bike handlebar into the trunk using foldable car dog ramp 21-in wide at least. This way without any lifting one can place even two foldable bikes in the trunk of his/her crossover/SUV. Have a nice e-bike trip!

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  2 місяці тому

      I bought a few of those totes when I first got the ebike and tried them, I didn't like the pressure it put on some parts of the ebike (me just being extra picky) and since I didn't have an SUV anyway, decided to return the tote. My plan was to put the ebike on a table in the tote when storing it to save space or to transport it in the bed of my truck. As time has passed since, I think totes are a really good idea as the bikes are really tough and totes keep them very stable during transport.

    I am a 5'2" woman can't lift my bike. I have a Subaru with a hitch so I have purchased a Black Widow aluminum (motorcycle)bike carrier with a ramp from Amazon. That way I can use the walk speed and walk it right up the ramp and secure. It is $143.99 now

    Great video. If necessary, I will fold my bike when I take my car to the shop during the pandemic. I have a liftback so putting it in the car is not a problem but I do recommend removing the battery and using a bungee cord when installing it inside the vehicle. I will admit the XP is a goofy bike to fold because of the fat tires. There are other ebikes that will fold easily into a car or to store them inside a home or office.

    I got nervous trying to do this in my Tesla Model 3. It’s the weight that makes it hard to maneuver around and watching each part of the bike so that it doesn’t snag anything. I didn’t continue. I bought a smaller e-bike for times that I want to take the bike into DC trails. I use to ride all the way into the city. Getting lazy these days…lol

    • @EbikeProducts
      @EbikeProducts  Рік тому

      Yeah, e-bikes are heavy and have awkward stuff you have to watch out closely for while putting them in or out or you’ll have some deep scratches in your car. Smart move getting a smaller one just for trunk + shorter commute riding. I’ll sometimes throw a scooter in the trunk of my car or truck too if I know I might have to do a longer walk from where I’ll be parking.

    Wether the bikes will fit in different models of cars is something of intrest to a lot of people. The manufactures would do themselves a favor, if they would solicit information from the people who have bought their bikes, and then have that info on their web site. I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra sedan, and could use the info. The trunk is limited by the opening, but a bike would go through the side door easily. I am considering an XP, but hate to have to buy a hitch and rack, for almost the same cost as the bike itself.

I am taller (5'9") and I have a truck with ample space - but how can I lift it? A ramp of some sort? I've looked at hitch mounted lifts for deer hunters, but did not find one that could be mounted on a truck with canopy. I know I am not the only retired woman who wants to ride independently, so there must be a way. Please advise!

      I think your may want to check out the youtube video that Ryan from ebike escape made about a rack he found. ua-cam.com/video/cGJ2fA9rm3E/v-deo.html
      He has 2 ebikes that demonstrated with the rack, but that manufacturer may have a single usage rack that could be a fit for your truck. My wife is not able to life the ebike and even I need a back brace to help prevent strain pain. With a rear mounted rack, you could hold the rear brake and lift the front of the bike and swivel the front tire in the rack first, then you would only need to lift the back of the bike on to the rack after which would be a lot less weight to carry. The bike is too heavy for my wife to even fold and remove the battery. It would take a little practice, but I think the rear rack is doable for a lot of people. I plan to get a rear rack for my pickup truck one day because the bed of the truck is very high and even difficult for me to carefully load in by my self while making sure to not let it tip.
      One big tip I can give you is to buy a folding stool the extra height comes in handy in so many ways when you need to lift the bike. Sorry I can't be of more help with the advice.

      Oh! I used to have a 2003 Honda accord before I got the Camry and the Camry trunk definitely seems larger. I think It might fit in an Accord, but it will take some careful maneuvering and you’ll definitely want to have a moving blanket cover the entrance of the trunk area while putting it in. Also, I’d recommend quick release pedals as well.

      No, there is no need to put them down as the bike doesn't even touch the back of the seats and there is room to spare. Also the trunk height gets lower the further in you go so I keep the bike as far away from the seats as possible. By the way, I realize now that taking the handle bars out of the stem can also make it easier to fit if needed.

      I tried it the other way, but the handle bars and neck fold in the direction that could really damage other stuff that are harder to repair if they bend or break. You also don't want pressure on the brake rotors too. As long as you don't have the bike in a position that the derailleur is having a lot of weight on it, I found this method really was the safest in the trunk but also the easiest way to lift in and out.
