- I'm back today with another Fish and Chip video. I decided to travel down to Bournemouth to visit Harry Ramsden's "world famous" restaurant which is known as the biggest Fish and Chip restaurant in the world. I've also got a special guest with me on this one today, hope you enjoy the video!

Great to meet up with you Gary (and The Cameraman of course!) I really enjoyed the day. What a fun experience for both of our first collaborations :-)
Can't wait for the next one Greeno, really enjoyed it mate
OI,OI GREENO,😉👍👍
Just subscribed. Thanks.
Not seen Greeno’s channel before, but will definitely check him out. Nice to see a collab between the two of you. Never been overly impressed with Harry Ramsdens before, it’s OK but prefer some of the better independent chippys rather than the chains. Entertaining review nethertheless Gary.
@@steveb1390 It's a great channel, 💯 Down 2 earth reviews
It's worth saying that Harry Ramsdens was destroyed a long time ago when Compass Group and Granda put profit before quality. The name has been sold a few times since and IMO never recovered.
Didn't know that, thanks for the info
Absolutely
Yep, I worked for Compass for 12 years. It was a high profile brand we put into everywhere from motorway service stations to universities and business and industry. As you say, like everything, the soul gets taken out of th3 de things in favour of commerciality.
I always put vinegar in my mushy peas
IMHO it's never been the same since it expanded from it's original site. Would never eat there now
Hi everyone.
Something a bit different today, my first collaboration on the channel and it's with Greeno. I won't be making a habit of collaborations on the channel but I really hope you enjoy this one today!
When it comes to collaborations it's best to have your mentality Gary-Let's give it a go!
Been looking forward to this thanks guys.👍🏻😁
Nice one Gary 👌
Great to see you & Greeno together, he's always such a genuinely nice person 👍
Great, do it from time to time.
When they were a single restaurant business based in Yorkshire they had an excellent reputation, then in 1988 they sold out and the new owners turned it into a chain, and since then its never been good. Wikipedia describes them as a fast-food chain so that's all you need to know.
It was certainly disappointing for me Noel
spot on destroyed it
I remember 1988, my sister who lives in Birmingham told me with great excitement That Harry Ramsden' was coming to Birmingham (I had no idea what she was talking about at the time) and she said that they fry everything in beef fat. Is this still the case?
P@jeanettegant2894 proberly changed now. Mcdonalds use to cook there fries in beef tallow. Much better but then changed to veg oil
Back in the day Harry Ramsdens was the place to go (apart from my local chippy). Now it’s run of the mill food. Small independent chippies produce the best fish n chips. Great collaboration, more please
Went to the Harry Ramsden concession at Twickenham Stadium while there for a weekend of rugby. On the second day I asked for some ‘batter & chips’ to which the response was, ‘we don’t serve just batter’. I replied that the day before I was served just that, there certainly wasn’t any fish in it.
Wow
🤣🤣🤣
Gal, I’ve been watching your videos from the very get-go. And what I love about your content is that you’re not loud or brash or over the top about any given place, nor are you dull, boring & just drone on & on & on… You’re a fun, warm welcoming person with a real down to earth grown up approach to reviewing restaurants.
Just wanna say cheers, mate.
I really appreciate your efforts what you put in to making this channel. And given the exponential growth, it’s obvious others do too. Well done my man. 👍
Thank you Danny, that means a lot that you think so highly of the channel and myself. Please have a wonderful rest of your bank holiday weekend
47 quid for THAT? No chance. That's outrageous.
Overpriced average food
I agree! That was insanity.
They got STICHED!!!😮
Yup, that one hurt the pocketbook.
In Allentown, Pennsylvania where I Live $61 could get a Lobster Dinner with all the Fixins and Drinks Or Steak Dinner for Two!
£5 for two little bowls of curry sauce. Absolutely outrageous.
Have to agree with you
Not even the same size
Shocking cost x
It sounds it but a supermarket curry "Iceland Chicken Bhuna 375g" is £2.50. I have yet to see this full video so I am guessing the bowls were really small...
*EDIT:* Oh those tiny black bowls ARE the curry sauce? Yeah they should be 75p or £1 at the most.
eating out has become shocking in general, using inflation as an excuse to overcharge since 2020 , no wonder frozen fish and chip sales in supermarkets risen by 200% past 2 years !
Great to see your subscribers creeping toward the 100k 'Silver Play Button' plaque. Your videos always brighten up my day.
That’s very kind to say thank you
Absolutely outrageous, Gary. £47 for what’s meant to be a poor man’s meal is just ridiculous. How could they possibly justify these prices? Nice to see you’ve made a friend, though. Cheers, mate!
He was a great guy and loads of fun and this was simply too expensive
It's not a 'poor mans meal' anymore though, hasn't been for years. Overfishing has decimated the cod harvest along with other countries wanting the cod too, pushing prices up to where they are now. Simple supply and demand I'm afraid but Harry Ramsdens does take it to the limit - nearly £50 for two portions is eye watering!
Can no longer use that saying anymore "cheap as chips"@@davidbrittain3212
What do you expect with a food chain restaurant. Even the portion size (all items) was not cosistant. I would have queryed the child size portion Gary had, and the cost of Gary's mushy peas.
Great video.
Tony & Linda, Portsmouth, UK
That price is outrageous, absolute rip-off
Agreed Kay
Thats cheap round my way 😺😺
The best Harry Ramsdens was in Yorkshire, just outside of Leeds...... chandeliers, red carpets, silver service......... then someone decided to expand everything, would have been better to keep it to the one restaurant.
Yes heard it is as well Antony
Used to go every Saturday as a kid. Best bit was the arcade they had around the back.
Now The Wetherby Whaler - one of my favourite chippys.
So true
Childhood memory there. It was something special that day.
It was always special to me. We had moved to Cornwall, so when in Yorkshire, it was to visit family, grandparents etc. We always went to Harry Ramsdens without fail, it was great. Dad would tell me how the original chippy was a wooden shed, and through the hard work it had grown to the huge restaurant that it was then....... obviously opening the franchises all over the country was not such a good idea.
I live in Bournemouth and its also the worlds biggest collection of dirty bins on a prom
Lol it has a lot of bins outside
Can't argue with that!
I noticed the bins too. 😢
it stinks as well
A dark afternoon in September and needed cheering up, so I thought I'd watch a collaborative video of my two favourite you tubers. You made me laugh, thanks guys. Pat
That is fantastic to hear and very kind to say thank you, Pat
Hi Gary, my partner and I love Bournemouth and have visited multiple times. Upon our last visit, we decided to try (for our first time), this famous fish and chip shop. We were full of great expectations regarding the brand, despite the prices. My my were we disappointed 😞. The chips were "scraggy bits", and like your piece of fish, the portion size was way too small. It actually looked like it had been battered twice as the thickness of the batter was thicker than the fish, honestly. We didn't complain, just paid up and vowed to never return, and we haven't. Thank you Gary for your channel. My misses and I enjoy your down to earth honest reviews. Breathe of fresh air mate. Oh, misses just reminded me, there is a pub in Bournemouth called the secret garden if memory serves. We had fish and chips there. To this day, the best fish supper we have ever had hands down. Take care Gary and roll on 100k!!!!
Really like Bournemouth and thank you for your lovely comment Rick. Please take care!!
Great idea this as got to compare the haddock and cod side by side , unusual your haddock being smaller than the cod as it's normally the other way round.
Shame about the inconsistency in portion size but but Harry Ramsden's not what they used to be and you're paying for the name and ambience.....this was reflected in your low scores.
A pair of gentlemen with no gimmicks , sensationalism or issues.....just honest , straight forward reviews and this refreshing approach paying dividends with your subs.
A big thumbs up to both your channels 👍
Thank you and I have to agree with you regarding HR. Higher price with less quality as years go on, not good
It’s because Greeno ordered the large cod and Gary ordered regular haddock.
@@Tigermad ..they both ordered the same chips though and the portion sizes were world's apart , as I said a serious inconsistency there for all to see.
This was a perfect collab Gary and Greeno 😂😂. I'd love to see more of ye both together along with the wee man 👍
It was great fun to film, glad you enjoyed it !
Thank you Lisa
Sadly, Harry Ramsden's hasn't been the real Harry's for years. I grew up in the Yorkshire Dales and a trip to Harry's, in Guiseley near Leeds, was always a treat. The fish and chip shop there, which was also the largest in the world at the time, was fantastic, all mirrors and chandeliers.
The fabulous, gossipy and attentive waitresses wore the traditional black pinnies with white caps. It was like eating at The Ritz. The specials were really special: very generous portions which always had to be eaten with brown bread and butter and a pot of tea.
Since then, it's just become another franchise and I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
It's living off a brand which exists only truly in the memory of those lucky to enjoy the original. That's very sad but I suppose that's the way the world is now.
Anyway, I really enjoyed your review. I think you were both fantastic and really fair. It was very odd to see the difference in the portions and sizes of the curry sauces, et cetera. It just looks like a mess. Anyway, thank you so much and all strength to your arm, Gary.
Yes, I second that. I also ate years ago in Guiseley. That was the original
Glad you enjoyed the video - it would be great to have the original back by the sound of it!
Yes seems like they've sacrificed quality Andy which is not good at all
When i was very young i used to go there on a Saturday lunch time with my parents.Great happy days.Great value.
yes , been there decades ago. So true, what a wonderful different world then.
10:26 coordinated eating-love it!!!
I did not notice, was it?
@@GaryEats yeah Greeno said let’s eat it together or something like that and both mouthfuls in at the same time. Love it-it was like artistic swimming as they call it now 😍
Gary, you and Greeno have made my day! I was feeling a a bit sad, watching this I had a smile on my face from beginning to end. I paid hardly any attention to the food, just listening to the banter from the pair of you was joy enough. I for one would be happy to watch another collaboration between the pair of you, such warm personalities and what fun you must have had making this. We're off to check out Greeno's video. Best wishes to you and Mr. Cameraman - Chirpy and Tania xxx
Glad you enjoyed the video - we had such a fun time making it!
Thank you Tania and I'm sorry you're not having a great time of it at the moment
I'd definitely recommend subscribing to GreenoEats too. It's rubbish to hear that someone is having a tough time, but I know Greeno's videos never fail to cheer me up.
You and Camera man are more than enough for us! I have a couple of ideas for you guys - Camera man rating your cooking Gary and you rating his and how much would you charge/pay for that 😂❤️ Your friend looks lovely person!
Good to meet Greeno will check out his channel.Would never go to Harry Ramsden s chippy once was enough not good 😐 Enjoyed the video Gary 😊😊best wishes Diane 😊😊
Loved this! Unfortunate that it wasn’t a better experience, but I really enjoyed the interaction between you two, and seeing you trying the same things at the same time, and witnessing your reactions. Gary, I love your solo videos, but I think you can’t go wrong doing collaborations like this either. Looking forward to more. And I just subscribed to Greeno’s channel. Thanks for bringing him to my attention!
Glad you enjoyed it!!!
Thanks for having Greeno on! I love his channel as well as yours. So thanks for giving him some exposure. Ooo er.
Thanks for the kind words - was great to work with Gary, he's a top man!
Greeno is a fantastic UA-camr but most of all a great guy
Just subbed @@GreenoEats
You guys make a great duo and I think we should see more combo reviews like this, on both channels. Interesting to see that the "world's biggest" chippie isn't actually the best, only average.
That’s very kind and really appreciated, Greeno is a fantastic character and a lovely man 👌
The two if you compliment each other very nicely. Both kind gentlemen of the highest order. 😊
Thank you very much
You and Greeno make a good collab Garry, A great review as always and i've subbed to Greeno's channel 👌
Thanks Scotty - glad you enjoyed it!
Much appreciated Scotty, he's a top guy
Harry Ramsden’s original chippy (and original tiny wooden hut) was in Guiseley, West Riding of Yorkshire. I used to take my younger brother and late parents on lengthy journeys from Bolton (near Manchester) for a ‘scenic run’ and super fish and chips in the early 70s.
Investments and take overs moved the name ‘Harry Ramsden’ into the corporate world as a ‘commodity’ with franchises opening here and there. The name eventually meant nothing and the original chippy in Guiseley closed in December 2011 (I think). The premises have since been refurbished and reopened by another company.
I thank you for your review, but ‘Harry Ramsden’ is permanently off my list - in fact ANY list!
SADLY
AGREED
Couldn't blame you for doing so Derek, thank you
I remember as a kid in the 70s, growing up in Sheffield, people saying what a great place Harry Ramsdens was. Never got the chance to go there.
I think I tried one of their frozen offerings a little while back. Nothing special as I'm sure you can imagine.
The Guiseley site is now a Wetherby Whaler. It's decent food, and got lovely chandeliers inside.
@@DavidFrankland Good to know. Thanks.
Good first colab Gary! Almost £50 for the 2 of you, way too expensive, especially considering the child's potion. Another great video.
Thank you and completely agree!!
A meal for a family of four would be nearly £100, for fish and chips!
How fun was this video. What a great collaboration, such fun banter between you. I have subscribed to Greeno now, hopefully more people will subscribe now. It's lovely to see other UA-camrs supporting each other. The cameraman is really getting better and better, some nice establishing shots and has introduced some nice underlying music lately too, great job as always and of course, Gary, your usual charming self!
Thank you so much
I remember going to the original big fish and chip restaurant in Guiseley with my mum and dad. It was before the franchise exploded countrywide. It looks like they recreated the look of the original place.
Unfortunately, they did not re-create the quality on the fish and chips my portion
I ate at a Harry Ramsden's many years ago and it was fine, but there are plenty of fish and chip shops providing better food for a lot less money. If the business has changed hands as others in the comments have suggested then it seems that the quality of the food has been sacrificed in the search for profit. Greeno was an enjoyable addition to the review. A general theme of your reviews is the superior food and service to be had from independent restaurants as opposed to the chains.
Geoff you are completely right local businesses never disappoint, have a great weekend 👍
Harry Ramsden used to have one in Manchester, It was expensive and not up to much.
Chains not good
@@GaryEats I agree, when you find a good local chippy they are special. Often in coastal towns, Whitehaven and Hull have outstanding examples and often it's just simple fare done well. 😃
Gary Gary Gary part of the fun of watching review videos is the final review ❤ please don't give it away in the title as it kills the surprise 😢
I will let the cameraman know
Chez Freds just up the road in Westbourne used to have a very good name - and they serve...."UNLIMITED chips"!!!
I’ve done a review the Paul, so I understand how good it is
Great collaboration. 🏴🇺🇸
Thank you Anne 🏴🏴🇺🇸🇺🇸
Fish and chips restaurants don't work for me. Take away is much better. Here in the Midlands portion of chips wrapped in paper all stuck together are the best. None of this polystyrene trays or cardboard boxes 😂
Murgatroyds restaurant in Yeadon was fantastic but I tend to agree
100% with you on that one 👍
The cardboard box thing always makes me wonder why. Here in NZ it’s wrapped in paper. In the old days , news paper. They put a stop to that. Who knows what the ink was doing to us also who knows who had their dirty mitts through that paper
@@unnamedchannel1237 I always thought They wrapped the fish and chips in grease proof proof? And the newspaper was just the outer layers.
@@unnamedchannel1237 yeah think they were wrapped in other paper and the outer layer was newspaper. Must have been messy on the hands.
I think you and Greeno make a very good double act, Gary! Would be good to see more collaborations with him.
That’s very kind and appreciated Nick 👍
Hi there Gary and Greeno! There was a time when Harry Ramsden's was pretty good value. But it really sold its soul as well as its name and became a national money making enterprise through making very ordinary frozen products for Iceland. So I wasn't that surprised that the value was disappointing. Mint sauce is also a great addition to mushy peas. We always eat ours at home with the addition of a dollop. Have to say it was great to see you reviewing together, like a couple of cheeky schoolboys! Your marks out of 10 were both very fair as the difference in your meal size Gary was ridiculous!
Hi there!! Thank you and I’m really glad you liked the duo. You are right regarding HR!!
Agreed
Good to see two legends of the game collaborating…more of them…yeah..” give them a go”
That is very kind to say thank you very much
I thought it was lovely to collaborate with Greeno, it was nice to see you have company.
Me too!
Thank you guys for cheering me up, my mood is really bad at the moment. Keep up the good work ❤
Keep going Marie and please take care of yourself 🙏🙏x
Sorry to hear. Life can offer up some hard times. Not always easy to push through. Hope for better times soon. Dont give up hope.
@@lindacraig7486 thanks Linda but I don't feel like I want to be here anymore
If you ever find yourself up North I can highly recommend Colmans of South Shields (Fish & Chips)
Already on the list and will visit
While there go on to the fish quay at North shields, proper food 👌 😋
Large scale eateries that rely on mass trade rarely work out. Unless it's like Mc Donalds style fast food outlet.
I have to agree with you Karl
Dunno, I think Toby have it bang on to be fair.....
How to make every meal taste great: Drink 9 bears on an empty stomach, whilst watching the game and enjoy it cold, with the fridge door open, at 11pm on a Saturday night, kind of knowing you are in the dog box tomorrow.😂
That sounds like an excellent plan, Gareth 😂
Great video with you both! £50 for a fish and chips! £50 over priced for a five/half.
For that price at a sea resort with plenty of customers £30 is appropriate.
I agree the price point was wrong
Nice Collab with Greeno, subscribed x
Fantastic!!
Brilliant, thanks so much 🙂
£50 for 2 portions of fish and chips. Let's put that into perspective with the leg of lamb course in wales for £18.50 - shocking!
Great review, as always. Good luck to Greeno, and his channel 👍
Thanks Nathan !
Thank you Nathan
@@GreenoEats
Great watching you with Garry.
More of that please!!
Cheers
I’ve lived in rural France since 2008. ‘Decompression’ from 13 years in the infantry. I miss British food. The FEB. The Ruby. The chippy. I wish there was a French Gary. Good food here tends to be small family bistrots or restaurants. Down side alleys. We saw an ad for a ‘fish & chips’ burger at Burger King I think. My French partner and I want to try it. She spent several weeks on an exchange near Devon. She loves fish and chips, English style. France needs a Gary. There are places here which are cheap and the food is superb. But you have to know where to go. 😋 Hey, at least we get Marmite in the supermarkets! 😎
@RalphBrooker-gn9iv love a side street chippy. I don't eat chippy that often, but when I do, it's a tried and tested chippy with awesome chips! You know a good bag of chips when the we small crustaceans are the best bit. All the best in France, Ireland here travelled around France as a kid with my parents lovely so it is and I don't care what anyone says the French are lovely people.
Nice to see you both ... rambling on But you need to be careful ... being born in 1944 i was bought up on fish n chips but had to walk everywhere jump everywhere and climb everywhere so i was pretty fit .. no cars catch the bus .. I mentioned to you before Gary Nottingham Goose Fair .. Mushy Peas n Vinegar the smell .. wonderful..
You did indeed and thank you very much
Looking at the biggest fish, there is a chippy in Whitefield, not far from Bury called Armstrongs, the home of the jumbo cod, and it is. My trouble was I only lived 5 minutes away, so too convenient.
Thank you very much. I will take a look at that Peter it sounds interesting. tonight’s video I actually get fish and chips for £3
To think a portion of chips in London back in 1982 cost 10p. If you run that through the inflation calculator it should be 34p today.
Yep
In the 60's it was 6d for a portion of chips and you got last weeks newspaper with it for free.
You could buy 10c (Australian) worth of chips in our only cafè in the 60s. If you didn't have 10c he would give you 9c worth. Good times in tiny town Australia. 😆🌊🦘
@splodge5714 😆 Bargain. As Elvis Costello sings 'yesterday's news is tomorrow's fish and chip paper'. 🦘🎶
Sadly, inflation calculators only calculate the equivalent spending power of money and don't take into account things like wage increases, input costs, taxes, power increases, etc. Plus most places now are buying pre-cut, processed and frozen chips instead of hand cutting their own spuds.
Gary, please excuse me: I have been away to the Emerald Isle. I LOVE your content but did not view this for some time. Your posts are constant on this channel. Pls be with me. One thing about you is that you are an absolute hoot - with your brilliant usage of the English Language and your facial demeanours.
Robert hope you had a sensational time, please don't worry about watching... whenever you find time and all the best
Great review, Gary, and fair score with the 5.5. I personally think it was pretty expensive. Especially if you think a family of four could be nearly £100. Portion sizes were a bit tight. Mushy peas - definitely not mushy. Curry sauce - probably too sweet for me and I can’t believe Harry Ramsden’s don’t have a signature tartare sauce - they are missing out on a great product there as it could also be stocked commercially like Nando’s (if it was good, of course!). Nice to see a collaboration for a change but don’t do it too often. Keep up the good work!
Gary reminds me of the older jim dale from.the carry on flims
Oh Gary, of course, I'm gonna continue watching your content. Many days I need cheering up. Your content does that.
Wow. I will be subscribing to GreenoEats. Great stuff guys.

He's a top guy Alan and deserves it
Really like your collaboration with Greeno, he's a top fella, and look forward to more of you two together.
Very kind of you to say so - we really enjoyed putting this together!
Thank you for your kind words
The food looked nice to be fair . My pet hate is soggy batter . We skipped Harry Ramsdens as we thought it might be pricey. Will be tempted to 'give it a go ! ' ❤ Next time we are on the soggy south coast Enjoyed the video . 😂 Will catch up Greeno's channel ..😊
That is very kind, thank you very much, Julie
Gary, you and Greeno (I've been watching him for a bit) work very well bouncing off each other. The camaraderie works, your critical styles play well together, and there's a matey chemistry that translates clearly. The cameraman also did a great job expanding his shot and capturing both of you, your reactions, close-ups, all of it. That all worked together for a really nice viewing experience.
Shame the restaurant kitchen couldn't manage to cooperate with itself half as well. There are a number of reasons for tedious processes like portion control, but one of them showed up here. Two diners were eating together, paying the same price for their meals. The kitchen knew all of that - they got and produced the order. They KNEW the people were eating together. And the two orders were very similar indeed. I don't know the UK price differential for haddock and cod. Here, haddock is not really common (though maybe it shows up more in New England - I live on the Pacific coast). I looked it up, and it's a cod relative. I'm betting that if we see it here unprocessed, it's sold as cod. Anyway, there may be some cause for a slight difference in the size of the fish portion. But there was not a single item on those plates without a notable size differential. That begins to seem like some evil kitchen joke. It's also an extremely poor look for the restaurant. The kitchen looks careless, and even rude. Also, although neither of you wanted to eat more tartar sauce, those were really miniscule samples - and again, Gary's was notably smaller. It looks like the mushy peas weren't quite finished cooking, and the different sized ramekins - absolutely an own goal. It's ridiculous.
I think you're half a point generous, Gary. I appreciate that much of the food was tasty enough, but the portioning was simply a bad look.
Thanks so much for your positive remarks 🙂
@GreenoEats You're very welcome. You and Gary work very well together. I also like your own forthright perspective and your solo work. Why are Too Good To Go bags fascinating? I don't know, but they really are, and you're very fun with them. Thanks for the entertainment!
@@heidifogelberg3544 Thank you 🙂

Is it just me: I was expecting to see Poirot and Capt Hastings walk past you guys.😂 it looked like the building is from an Agatha Christie novel.
Regards the food: You shouldn't go wrong with fish and chips. Even minions like me can cook fish & chips to a decent standard. Well, I did when I worked in a pub kitchen.
That made me laugh lol
You can keep it. They fry in beef dripping, I’m vegetarian 😊
I thought it was vegetable oil.
Same here, I don’t want it fried in beef dripping, I am veggie/pescatarian.
You’re right Gary! They used to fry in beef dripping, but changed at some point to vegetable oil, which they use now, 😊
Sorry for your loss.

Ramsdens overrated, living off the name
Have to agree with you
Gary I enjoyed the collaboration with Greeno......You guys had good banter and enjoyed your sense of humor. I will check out his channel. Gary you got ripped off. The portion of both the fish and the chips you received compared to the other plate for the same price is sinful. Personally on that alone I would rate this restaurant a 2.5 plus the food was average at best. I do hope you do another collaboration as it's a nice change of pace and it really brings out your personality. Cheers.
Yep not so good Daniel
Thanks Daniel 🙂
Got to say nine times out of ten fish and chips are a let down, the anticipation is usually better than the actual event.
Really depends where you go
Kebabs too, but I never learn.
@@graphicmaths7677Been 20+ years since I had a kebab, but my judgement was always impaired when I did.
@@GaryEatsCorrect.
Sadly true
So to sum up - a large cod is a regular sized portion of cod and the regular sized fish & chips is an extended fishfinger.
I really enjoyed this video. I hope you show more collaborations, especially if the cameraman pays.
You got it exactly right thank you very much for your comment. I will be meeting with Greeno soon and I agree, especially if the cameraman is paying lol 😂
You and @Greenoeats should do a lot more reviews together. You two are a right double act 😆
That is very kind, thank you, Jason
If you get to a decent branch mother Hubbards do top notch fish and chips! Super jumbo fish and chips for £15 easily feed 6
I will do, it's on the list
Us locals will remember this building as
"The Quarterdeck" a fabulous seafront bar and now they've ruined it with this awful place
Not good
Hello Gary. Thanks for another entertaining and informative vlog. I agree with your marking, putting 'Harry Ramsden' above your front door does not entitle you to be stingy with the portions, especially at those prices.
You and Greeno should seriously consider doing some more collaborations together, you really spark off each other. Until the next one, take care.
Glad you enjoyed the video, it was a lot of fun to make!
Glad you enjoyed it and I completely agree
Very amusing. Nice job, guys.
Thanks! 😃
Why would being the biggest mean anything, when food is all about taste presentation and ambiance.
Doesnt mean anything if the food is not good
"they don't do curry sauce!" Almost as good as Peter Kay
Lol Harris
Great presentation lads and you really click… be great to see a few more colabs in the future👍
That’s very kind to say thank you very much and I’ve got to tell you Greeno is a fantastic guy 🇮🇪🇮🇪
I have to be honest and say as a non-Brit, if I got that fish and chips, I'd think it was completely standard. BUT after watching Gary's channel for so long, I think I've learned a little about what really good fish and chips is. Also, really fun to see a collaboration. Thanks for introducing us to Greeno.
Top man, thank you!!
Loved to see you and Geeno eat together. Watch him anyway but was nice to see you both as a double act, Yes please do it again,
He's a top guy
we had a harry Ramsdens in ashford kent in the outlet... it didnt last long...why? portions were small but the price was huge.... i cant knock the tastes but when you spend a day shopping ( 15yrs ago) you want good bit of grub to keep you going... great to see greeno.. your 5.5 out of 10 was a bit better than i gave it i said 5... thank you for not making it another 9+ .. great review yet again.. thank you
I have to agree with you Mark and thank you mate
I think Harry's had his chips at these prices. Nice fun collaboration. Well filmed too Mr CM. Thanks for cheering my day up!
That’s very kind to say thank you
More collaborations please Gary. Excellent episode, big mark up on that catering sausage.
That’s really appreciated Greeno is a great guy 👍
Pinch of bicarbonate soda keeps your peas extra green. Gary Rhodes first introduced me to putting vinegar in mushy peas.
Thanks for letting me know
Great fun! Nice to mix it up a bit every now and again. Best fish n chips🍟 I've had is on the IOW. Corries Cabin in Cowes. Went once to H.R's. Very disappointing. Just popping over to Greeno's YT now to have a little look to see what he's been reviewing! But it's OK Gary...not deserting you!🤩I'll be back for the next one!!🍽 x J x
That’s so kind Judy but you are always kind and lovely xx
Me too
Gary love the Collaboration with Greeno he seems a nice guy like yourself , Ive watched lots of your stuff and i really enjoy it . Keep up the great work .
Thank you very much Jeff and I agree a smashing guy
Please do this again gary and greeno uses bounce of each other so well this was amazing
That’s very kind to say and we will meet up again 👍
Great teamwork, what’s not to like? The wit of “Eric and Earnie “, the stature of “Laurel and Hardy”,more please 😊
That’s very kind to say Peter I thought Greeno was great 👌
Agreed
Went to Harry Ramsdens years ago when they first opened at Heathrow Airport. Got stung by the ludicrous prices (2001) of £15.99 and said to myself never again! The portion was even smaller than yours was Gary! 5.5 is spot on!
That’s not good to hear and thank you John we agree
That must be £40 if not more in today's money yikes!
There was only one true Harry Ramsden's, it was in Guiseley, Leeds.
Coaches used to bring people from all over the UK. There were always huge queue up for ages to eat in or Take Away. This was like this upto a company bought the name and opened around the world.
Quality got bad and the original home of Harry Ramsdens shut down.
Now the Wetherby Whaler.
Miss the True Harry Ramsdens
Unfortunately, it has all turned into a franchise operation which in my opinion isn’t good
Gary I love your food review and guest! Look, Harry Ramsden had his day. It should be McRamsden!!! and half that price🙂
Thank you and yes it’s just a poor franchise
Nice collab, Gary & Greeno. Two of my favourite channels. All the best to you both (& the cameraman of course :) )
That’s so very kind to say much appreciated
A very entertaining video Gary. Well filmed with two gentlemen at work. I used to go to the original Harry Ramsden's in Guiseley 50 years ago. They were reputed to be the best fish and chips anywhere. I would agree and coachloads of ladies from all over the UK filled the restaurant. I would score them 10 plus. Once I was seated with my back to the ladies' lavatory. The noise was deafening and the lavatory door was constantly opening and closing. It was like sitting in a North East gale. I woke up next day with a stiff neck. All the best Philip.
Thank you Philip, very kind as always
Had to laugh. Sorry.
@@lindacraig7486 Thank you!
I see you're down my neck of the woods! But I would of never suggested that place! Now you know why! Nice to see the collaborations, haven't heard of Greeno's channel, but have just subscribed! You should of come down today the weather has been lovely!
That’s really kind and thank you very much as always 👍
Thanks for the positive comments, much appreciated!
Hi gary , Brilliant review from both of you - thoroughly enjoyed it. I live just down the road and use the local chippies rather than go to Bournemouth , as soon as you mention Bournemouth prices jump a lot. Harry Ramsden a bit steep these days I prefer to support the locals. Ahhh we let you down on the weather! Great banter and clearly get on with each other , and YES do an Indian review with Greeno - will look forward to that one.
Glad you enjoyed it Dave, top man
Your rapport with Greeno makes me look forward to future collabs between you, and maybe some other names on the scene. Great stuff all involved.
Thanks, was fun to do 🙂
That’s very much appreciated Walter thank you
Greetings again from my side of the pond. After cutting the sausage Greeno was supposed to take a bite from the larger portion then say "now the two parts are even". Great review and the bantering and joking added to the fun. "This episode was broadcast in stereo". That was a very high price to pay for the total of both meals. One does not mind paying a premium if the food is worth it. Looking forward to another collaboration farther down the road. P.S. How was the tea?
I am glad you enjoyed it, we certainly enjoyed making it! (PS, the tea was actually very nice!)
Thank you very much for your kind comment
This was so cool. So glad I found this video. Since subscribing I've been watching your content from months back so glad to see the two of you together. You should do it more often and maybe have others join you as well. I also watch Deano and old food guy keith .
Awesome! Thank you, both great guys
Really enjoyed the banter between you and Greeno, looked like fun ❤
It was great fun Shirley x
It certainly was!
It’s a yes from me,Greeno was polite and didn’t take over but gave great input. Please do the currry collab
I thought he was excellent 👌
Fantastic Collaboration with Greeno Gary and very entertaining.I have not had fish & chips in Bourenmouth for 15 years and after the joint review most certainly will NOT be rushing back. ..the portion size you were given WAS too small and the bill at the end was so expensive (i thought) you must be in London- that kind of way too expensive price is quite shocking and only a 4/10 for me and shows the better value up north eastern seaside towns😮😢
Glad you enjoyed the collaboration, it was fun to do !
Glad you enjoyed it Geoffrey, take care of yourself and best wishes to your family
" You had a bigger sausage than he did..).
That's life..😂😂
Indeed lol
As a Home Counties boy, I've lived near Blackpool since 1974. I wouldn't entertain going to Harry Ramsden's restaurant on Blackpool Prom. Once bitten, twice shy.
And I always put vinegar, salt and pepper on mushy peas.
I love the channel Gary !
Thank you Stephen and that’s what I’ll be doing going forwards 👍
Great video as always Gary you could start your own double act with Greeno and compare your comments 😃😃👍
Lol that's a great idea Alan
I suspect it's not a coincidence that traditionally in parts of the world (namely Germany), hearty lentil and pea soup are served with vinegar, which is a big exception from the prejudice that only anglo-saxons use vinegar to pour it in vast quantities over otherwise perfectly edible food.
Thank you very much for the information
