Am I correct in thinking painting this way will take approximately 1-2 weeks for one item ? Probably not ideal for a one off project then ?

You should really etch zinc before painting. It is very non stick when oxidized
Why he didn't use the grey primer?
The red paint is red oxide primer and contains raw iron oxide which prevents rust by giving the metal a thin pre-rusted layer essentially.

@@GabrieLight architectural assistant but I know a little about old linseed paints. If you want a little more in depth info Brouns and Co also make linseed paint and they've been good for info too.
