I love how Bowie can manage to personalise the song to him. Only he could sing it like that
I don't even really listen to Bowie, but I thought the same thing

Best live version of IMO the greatest rock song of my time!❤
Totally agreed
And then respectfully stands back to admire the view of the virtuosos.
What a gentleman Bowie always was when singing with others. He never tried to upstage them.. Such respect! What a loss...Thank God we can still watch him..
Eso es correcto Bowie era un caballero no tenia ningún problema cantar con otros, gesto que no vi con Queen quienes no se dignaron a cantar con Bowie "Under Pressure" siendo compuesta entre Bowie y Queen
@@casimiropalmar unfortunate that freddie and David never performed together
A great example is Under Pressure with Annie Lennox and David... The energy, class and sophistication!!! Their mutual respect, love and musicianship shine through..
David Bowie looks like a rockstar sings like a rockstar. David Gilmour looks like a Geography teacher plays guitar like a god
I hope the people in the audience realize how absolutely bloody fortunate they were to see this performance.
ugh, I know right! So lucky.
It's really honorable that Bowie always steps back when Gilmour starts singing.
+foxeh123 and it's seems he disappeared in the end of the song, leave stage to Gilmour and his friends? OMG Bowie! Respect!
+foxeh123 Beautiful observation, yes he was always the epitome of class and grace....
+foxeh123 Very much so.
+Ineffable Oracular always classy, never pompous.
David Bowie forever the class act. RIP sweet soul.
Marvel: we've made the most ambitious crossover event in history
Gilmour:
Exactly
oody okay!
I really like the way Bowie takes the part an octave higher and makes it his own, rather than just trying to imitate Roger Waters. Always an original, RIP.
+Steve M My thoughts exactly
+Steve M Yes excellent point, ALWAYS the original...always expressing, creating and thinking against the grain...
Totally agree there, well said ☺
+Steve M Amen Brother.
totally agree
"Hello"
*cries*
Scott Alavezos aww hug
Scott Alavezos You're not lying, sir
honestly same.
I love how David steps away when it's his turn to NOT sing. Class.
Which David though?
Gregorius Dermawan David Bowie
This is A Pink Floyd classic. You can see how Bowie never tries to outshine Gilmour or the band. He's a guest performer and does his job like the true gentleman he was. #respect #BowieForever
Vico Baptista correct
I was just thinking the same thing. It was intentional on Bowie's part.
Yes that's very Bowie.
I love Bowie's body language when Gilmour takes over the lead vocal -- he steps all the way back, out of the light, _hands behind his back,_ keeping time and enjoying his fellow musicians. What a professional.
pure class..what a man...
RIP Mr. Wright and Mr. Bowie
Gilmour might have the clearest, cleanest tone and vibrato of any lead guitarist. He’s just magnificent.
unbelivable... he just turned his parts into a david bowie song, extraordinary to watch .
David Bowie... After singing steps backwards with his arms behind his back and barely moving. He doesn't want to draw any attention... he wants the rest of them shine by dimming his light... oh David.. how amazing you were and how all of those little things tell me so much about who you were. I love you and will for the rest of my existence.
+Chris L. This is what really gets me about the video as well. Bowie is such a class act. Doesn't try to upstage anyone, just appreciative of where he is. Respectful. Humble. I miss him terribly.
+Chris L. I absolutely with you, Chris. He was such a wonderful, beautiful person. miss him.......
That final guitar solo - there are no words....
I agree
2 Legends? No! 3 Legends.
Bowie, Gilmour and Richard.
OMG, wow, Bowie and Gilmour, God's own musicians.
damn right.
That is a lot of talent on one stage.
Miss you, Bowie.
The two greatest "Davids" in music.
+Ricky Rhoades Anyone remember David Byrne?
+Jimmy Catalina David Crosby, even?
+Ricky Rhoades after David Hasselhof!! LOL
The Hoff? Really? The only people who like him are the Germans.
PREACH
David Bowie is one with the cosmic vibration now. A million thank you's David. You're in my cells. So grateful. And with Gilmour? Height of happiness.
+Dusty Rhodes i have been left comfortably numb
+Jo Lewis i have been left uncomfortably numb
+Dusty Rhodes Prophetic words...I'm feeling comfortably numb.
Yes I agree Bowie is one with the Cosmic Vibration. He is traveling the spiral.
I was there. It took 15 minutes of standing ovations before they could start. Bowie’s key choice is sublime. Gilmours solo is unworldly. I’ll never forget it
#Wembley ...?!
Oh how lucky u are
Youre a lucky man to experience that moment in time. I only got to see David Bowie perform with Tin Machine. It was an incredible performance.
You were the bald dude dancing and having the time of his life...🤭😟
@@angelssonico royal Albert hall
RIP David Bowie. You are greatly missed.
Two of my favorite David's together. How wonderful is that? Two great musicians, each of his own, performing together this amazing Floyd's song. And I can't even say: "Remember that night" because I haven't been there.
*+* Goodbye David Jones - Bowie. You did it very well here on Earth, Starman. Thank you. Rest in peace on your home Star.
I know how you feel. I am "Learning to Fly". Maybe I'll catch it backwards. You can try it too :)
Very clever. You'll have a "Great gig in the sky", but be aware of "The Wall". Don't hurt yourself. I'll join you later. I don't have any "Time" at the moment.
Well, you know me. I'm "Fearless" but still careful.
I hope "One of These Days" we'll be "On The Run" together. We'll just "Keep Talking". "It Would be so Nice" :)
Yes, I hardly "Remember a day" when we were just sitting and talking and listening that "Unknown song" and we all were "Wearing the inside out".
That was before some of us were "Burning Bridges". In those days we didn't have "Empty Spaces" in our hearts.
We must revive "The Lost Art of Conversation"
I'm just kidding - it still shows strong "Signs of Life" :)
David Bowie sang it the David Bowie way, and that earns 1000% respect from me!
The 2 Super Davids, so much talent.
That riff from Gilmour and that voice of Bowie, two Davids writing history.
Bowie is my religion
I miss Bowie so much.... i love this one!
Me too
Rest in Peace

True pioneers in music and showmanship.

mick ronson, david bowies guitarist from the spiders from mars. and marc bolan. might as well throw freddie mercury in there too, cause why not
Bowie, such a gentleman and respectful, standing back when it's not his time. More interested in art than his ego.

Firstly: *WELL SAID!!* Best comment on this page which I've yet read (which is far from all! Haha) :) _/applause_
You are *SO* right. Yes, he was a true and virtuous gentleman (in the real sense of "virtue", not its usual, shallow, merely historical, temporal, and/or social (but, of course, very *useful)* sense: i.e. the sense or concept of virtue which covers: "Oh no! He/she/they/you are moral/immoral because he/she/they: do/don't drink, take drugs etc., do/don't support/oppose gay rights, feminism, and so forth, do/don't believe in [NB: the speaker's idea of...] God, do/don't have sex inside/outside of marriage, blah, blah" sense).
A real, and rare, true gentleman he was, then, and more: the mortal man who was David Bowie. But he was so much more than *that,* too. That, as I have argued elsewhere on this page, and so I won't bore on and on about it, is far from *ALL* that either Bowie *OR* Gilmour either was (which applies to the mortal) or is (which applies to the Divine - that from which genius springs, and of which it is - and *NO* I do not mean *ANY* religion's idea of any kind of "God"... they are not so much all *wrong,* as they are all *right* - to a greater or lesser extent, of course - and yet, they *ALL* fall far, far short of any kind of true understanding - not of "God", or "gods", but of the truly Divine: that which simply *IS).*
But I am wandering into my old field of theology... enough of *THAT...!!* Not the time *OR* the place... :D
This I will say, though. True genius *IS* humble; it does not need to admire itself... and, as is certainly the case with Bowie and Gilmour - and who, but they, can say whether they even consciously (for the mind, too, is of the mortal realm...) "knew" this to be the case or not? - true genius *knows* itself - in the only sense in which *know* can even be *fully* comprehended (not solely by the mind) - when it meets, or even, from afar, sees itself. What does genius have to prove...?!
Enough already. You said it so well. Bowie, the man, was a very, very great man. Bowie the genius will live forever.
And Gilmour still remains to us: that is, to those of my generation who have had to watch each genius (of whom we even are aware!) - and they are few indeed, and terribly rare - being taken from us, one by one. It is almost unbearable; only spiritually is it bearable. In mortal terms, it is an unending grief. But their immortal genius lives on... and Gilmour yet lives amongst us, too.
We have *ALL* been fortunate to have the gift of their genius, which *CAN* never die, to treasure and to give us our own glimpse of that which truly *IS* - and the knowledge that we have walked the Earth at the same time as them! :)
RIP David Bowie and Richard Wright
Gilmour will ALWAYS have the angelic section of this song. Loved Bowie's interpretation.
The immensity of an artist like David Bowie can also be seen in the ability to take an untouchable classic and make it his own. R.I.P.
I will always be in love with him
the worst part of this generation is maybe we might not see something this great anymore... all we can do is looking back in awe
i agree. i never get to see david bowie live and i never will. hopefully david gilmour and the rest of pink floyd (rip richard and syd) live long enough so i could save my money to see them. or my life would feel useless
I hate to make your matter worse (although you will get back at me because of my age) ... I have seen them all! :) ... and you are absolutely right!
@@rogueshadow93 you are so lucky sir, but for me its very blessed to get know this kind of music
@@nobutasu3285 good luck mate, hope you can see them near future, but i think its impossible for me
This true statement makes me very sad 😢
After all these years, Gilmour still sounds like he did in the 70s
Oh man how I love him.... I will have a giant crush on him until the day I die. His voice and guitar tone go straight to my heart.
No words. Greatest guitarist in the world, with the worlds only true legend. Speechless
David Bowie was so respectful and stood back and seemed to enjoy David Gilmore and the over all respect of sharing the stage. Legends.
He was never the most animated singer, and was taking it easy since he was still a little sick from his massive heart attack, but he sure was enjoying this performance!
stinkydo0d True but I still respect the way he stepped back all of the way out of the spot light and let the light shine on David Gilmore. He stood back and as you said seemed to really enjoy it.
Gamecockinnc1 Exactly!
David Bowie was always the perfect gentleman.
I’m so lucky to have seen this live
hells yeah! you are. Two total heroes together like that. I'm jelly.
We miss you David Bowie and Rick Wright
Olivier I'm with you we miss them
Won't see two like that ever again. I'm glad Bowie did this with them. Two legends: Bowie and Floyd.
Seb Ld2
Bowie never tries to steal the show, even in his own bands! Love this.
true that
He was a gentleman through and through.
Does it get better than this? Great to see Bowie and Gilmore together on stage.
nop
Oh, my Lord. How many of you wanted this to go on for another half hour? RIP: David Bowie and especially Rick Wright. Now, you only play and sing for God.
David Bowie joins Richard Wright to play The Great Gig In The Sky
R.I.P
We could not be davids just for one day. This is too hard, they are perfect.
Bowie is 60 and Gilmour 61 at this concert. Still, so gorgeous...
8:40 of amazing.
The most unique man who ever lived. RIP Mr. Jones thanks for stopping by in my lifetime
The mother of all guitar solo's.
50% of Pink Floyd = better than almost every band in history.
50% of Pink Floyd plus David Bowie = better than absolutely every band in history.
richard wright was such an underrated keyboardist, his parts were so simple but such an integral part to the floyd. RIP thank you for all your inspiration.
I concur, but I do believe he was and is recognised as an equal measure to what we understand as Pink Floyd
Indeed, as I stated, he was INTEGRAL. He wrote a lot of the stuff too. He is definitely one of my favorite keyboardist tho...have you heard his solo records?
DAVID BOWIE MAY HE REST IN PEACE 1947-2016
R.I.P. David Bowie. Greatly missed.
David Bowie and pink Floyd changed the music world
Bowie was such a gentleman. Just stood quietly out of the limelight when he wasn't singing.
That's how Bowie rolled, though.
David Bowie was such an amazing vocalist and shined on this performance. Two rock legends on this shared stage.
Bowie...Genius...respectfully standing back when warranted....a Gent.
Nope. Still can't get through this video without ugly-crying.
Larissa Smith same here....heartbroken.........
Best guitar solo hands down.
Rick Wright, David Gilmour and David Bowie in stage, this is simply beautiful...
David Bowie will always be an icon ... he as he always did made a twist his own and gave us all another verse of a great song to consider
What a great rendition. Bowie really captured the emotion of the wall with his voice. Every bit as much as Roger IMO. I’ve heard other guitarists do this song, but no one can capture the emotion in that six-string like Gilmore.
The best part about this is the fact that while ur watching this live, u know ur watching the single greatest music performance piece u will ever witness in ur life time.
Totally agree with you Ben!!
Gilmour in a class of his own. There's Mr. Gilmour and then everybody else.
Bowie's vocals and musicality is so remarkable
+Rodrigo Nascimento Very true dude.
Wow Bowie could cover anything and make it his own and Gilmour is a guitar God - fucking brilliant
At first when i heard this i didn't like it...but now i luv this version so much!!! David bowie can make any song his own....😊
It's THEIRS. They are doing it. He is part of it. A good part.
That last guitar solo is the best thing I have ever heard
Check out the version from the PULSE tour.
That’s because it’s the best thing ever played
Bowie puts his own spin on a perfect song & makes it his own.David was the consummate Artist....& I have become comfortably numb.
RIP David Bowie and Rick Wright. Never forgotten.
Two Amazing Davids.
Only David Gilmour is still alive, of the two, as of January 2016.
james tapp
+ Nick, Rick!!!
RIP Star-man
gilmour still has the voice of an angel
How Much I Miss David ... Your humanity and your genius talent was evident, you will always be inside me
David Gilmours voice hasn't changed since 1979
Most people don't sound as good live even if they just recorded the album. Dave sounds just like the recording even after all these years.
+BrandonWendt2 really? for me it is different. In the original record he sounds younger giving the fact that he was 33 but when you hear david gilmour singing live nowadays you could notice the difference
Rest Easy Dad, thank you for introducing me to Pink Floyd and Bowie when I was a kid in the 80s..
RIP Dad and Mr. Bowie 😔
Your dad had good taste, sorry for your loss. :(
your Dad was a top guy!
I have to hold back tears listening to this for so many reasons; dads death, bowies passing, its beauty, the solitude, the emotion of bowie... incredible.
this was probably one of THE 8 BEST MINUTES of my entire life... HAIL TRUE MUSIC
Goosebumps and tears...God I miss sharing this planet with Bowie...
Yeah, but at least we share this universe with his music.
It's really sad knowing that music will never be this good again.
In one way you are correct. And in another not so.
Yes, main stream music doesn't allow for creativity like in the 60's, 70's and 80's.
but
there many genres of music 90% of the world haven't heard.
One of them Bhajans and Kirtan. Its the devotional music of Yoga. I can tell you after being involved in it personally as a musician for 25 years now, that its every bit as deep as Pink Floyd.
Floyd was my favourite band as a teenager. but i am so glad the music of the immortal soul has found me.
Check it out.
Coolest Davids on earth!!! Period!!
Oh this is gorgeous. RIP, David.
+painted8 Bowie, that is. Sorry.
+painted8 I was about to say...
I love my Bowie! The two of them together is perfection! I cannot image experiencing this once in a life time moment! Especially poignant today. Even thought we all know he suffered I hope it was with little pain. Fly on starman!
Before Wright died and Bowie, always legends in history
The second solo is absolute perfection
How insane is it that the crowd is SITTING DOWN for this?!
Man we lost Scott Weiland First
Then Lemmy
Now Bowie
I'm so scared to loss Sir Gilmour now :(
+Nicolás Riveros Oh my god, don't even go there. Gilmour lives forever.
i know i don't wanna but, after this last months, one can never know :(
+That's Sound That Nobody lives forever...
+Nicolás Riveros He can't ... I have tickets.
+Nicolás Riveros it happen's in 3's maybe even 4's just stay tuned
And he doesn't say goodnight! David was and is the only superstar for ever!
Two of the greatest Davids. RIP Mr. Bowie, shine on you crazy diamond dog ( bowie fans will get that)
Class. It's all about the song. Bowie just played his part, nothing more, nothing less.
Class.
The two greatest Davids in music history!
Michael Shankly you forgot David Hasselhoff
Come on D Ve!
Michael Shankly don't forget David Coverdale!
Thank you Mr.Gilmore for 35 years of constant soul purification on this sometimes, dismal plane of my existence.
Sincerely, for me this version is way better than the original, the bowie's touch is just amazing.
David forever in our hearts .....
That's 4 sure
Bowies voice ads a haunting that compliments an everlasting band and everlasting song. We are not worthy.
There are people who can play a guitar quickly, and there are great guitarists.
This is one great guitarist!
Windyworm Amen! to a guitar god...
When I look at Bowies face, oh man, I can feel tears forming at my eyes. When I see hes expressions, and you can understands he feels what he sings, I just cant stand it.
Growing up with them and now one is dead, and the next one, and and and.
Life is really shitty when your music heroes are going for ever.
R.I.P. Mr.Bowie. I never forget you.
I think i need a drink, ore two, ore...............
Hey, I'm 32 . I've been playing guitar for 18 years. I'm just a pup in this realm, and just as I started getting into these guys, they started dying.
Let's band together to remember and continue on....
Agreed Joachim, Life does seem to loose something when one's music heroes pass. Chris Cornell, Tom Petty, Gordon Downie, Leonard Cohen, Glen Fry, Kieth Flint, to name some of mine. They live on in our hearts, The Arts in all its forms, imo, are one of our truly unique mediums.. .Creations, not discoveries ..RIP Musicians, and all creators alike. One Love Brother
~
Is anyone listening to these legends in May 2018 bowie unreal sounds as good if not better then the original...thoughts???????
Ava Nixon the van morrison/ waters live version is my favourite. But this is fantastic too
One of the most amazing performances in rock music history. My entire scalp was tingling.
Shine On!
