One of the greatest songs of all time. I was in the service when Layla came out. What memories I have of that time. I'm 72 now ... and miss the good old days. 🇱🇷
Frank, I was 3 years old in 1970, when Layla came out. I remember kneeling by my bed every night & asking God to protect the policemen & soldiers in my own country (Ireland) & the American soldiers fighting the war in Vietnam. The following year, aged four, I was blown sky-high, on a sunny, Saturday afternoon by a bomb, "proudly" owned by the I.R.A. I'm told blood poured from every orifice &, when my mother told an EMT to take another, more severely-injured innocent bystander, in the ambulance (there were always too many casualties & those, lesser-wounded, were thrown into the back of cars...). The EMT said, as he grabbed me out of her arms, "Madam, your daughter goes in the ambulance or she will die". Shortly after our wedding, my husband was asked to work in the U.S.A. We had an, "open door" policy, most who became "family" were service men & women. It was nothing for us to have 18, for dinner, on a week-night (we improvised 🙂). Those men & women were homesick, at very least, heartsick at worst. We gave them what we had: home-cooked meals, LONG calls home to their families (without a line waiting behind them), barbeques & volley-ball on the beach & as many laughs as they could handle. Others were happier lying on the grass, under our trees just trying to forget....we often cried together as we remembered those we'd loved & lost. We lost many more in the conflicts which followed. Letters & continued contact with their families are precious. Some expectant service women stayed with us as their "due date" approached &, also afterwards, until they were well enough to travel home. We chose to leave & I have family who still can't answer their doors without their service weapons to hand. Our "war" may seem to be over but the threat is still great (even if you're retired). I was saddened to find out that a LOT of money for weapons & Semtex came from U.S. idealists who thought they were supporting freedom-fighters, instead of cowards who called it "war" but never donned a uniform (you'd know how terrifying it is when you can't seperate the enemy from the innocent). "Thankyou for your service", doesn't seem enough. We must never forget that we all have to live on this planet & that peace & innocence are too precious to ever give up - without good reason.
Eric has never compromised his music or himself. He never wears costumes or jumps around on stage. He doesn't have to. He just wants to play for us. A true musical genius.
Screaming racist comments on stage while drunk off his ass doesn't count as compromising himself? Don't get me wrong, I love his music. But he has compromised himself more than a time or two.
@@therealxunil2 So... one (never repeated) drug and alcohol fuelled racist rant nearly 50 years ago - for which he has apologised several times - condemns him forever in your view, eh?
@@RhiannonFan No, Clapton hasn't apologized for his racist rant. Not sincerely, anyway. Read anything he's ever said about the incident. He has always downplayed it and acted as if it wasn't that big of a deal. Also, little known fact: Clapton was racist toward Jimi Hendrix. He called Hendrix a "spade" in an interview with the Rolling Stone, a slur used in England at the time to describe black people. Finally, Clapton has admitted to forcibly sleeping with his wife. He's evil in the truest sense of the word.
The reason Clapton is smiling throughout is because he's finally sober and he's playing with some of the best of the best musicians. Check out that sax player. He just FEELS it and adds to it.
Only artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame three times. As a member of the Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo artist. Definitely one of the most versatile and top guitarist of all time.
As much as I love him, hall of fame means nothing when some of the greatest players/bands aren’t in it while female/gangster rappers who don’t even know what rock is are in it, it’s just a diversity and inclusion farce

As I am an artist myself I consider Eric Clapton as one of my best guitar teachers! I listend to his guitar again and again to improve my skills... and even in singing a learned much from Eric - Thank you!
Two weeks before my dad died of cancer, he posted this video onto his Facebook with the caption "My daughter thinks this song is pretty cool." The best thing I inherited from him was his music taste
In my humble opinion, this is one of the best performances of LAYLA I've seen & heard....many times; Clapton in earlier years was not crazy about using his voice ie. singing, front man or other-wise; Over the yrs. his confidence grew as did his powerful, throaty vocals & it clearly shows...There isn't a bad seat @ Madison Sq. Garden as I've seen Many concerts there, notably - Led Zeppelin in '73, where the infamous concert tour,as well as title song, 'The Song Remains the Same' - which is another story indeed!
Once again, this was posted twice...computer issues which drive me CRAZY! Yet I can easily listen to 'Layla' , twice, so it's not the worst thing to happen to me today!
Clapton fan since childhood. My uncle wad a renowned musician in his own right and a huge Clapton fan. Started my love affair early with Layla and Forever Man. Still my top favorites. Never tired of the way that barely suppressed growl grabs me. Rock on, Eric
As an old Director of many multi cam concerts this to me was just beatifully done. Director was right on it and the camerawork was just supurb. It's rare to see such teamwork meet so spot on. Be proud.
I suspect that they have to have an incredible feel for the song that they are recording with their cameras as to know which instrument they should focus all of their attention on all before it ever happens, and just in the exact moment when it does happen, so it seamlessly makes the video a perfect concert to watch on this website, UA-cam.
Lol, also a racist MAGA, not ashamed for a guy who owes his entire career to blues and R'n'B, whose musical heroes are named Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters or B.B. King. Caucasity 😒

Is being racist wrong when everyone does it. And why is it wrong g for one certain person?
@@RhiannonFancomparing covid measures to slavery and repeatedly saying good stuff about a really right wing politician doesnt count?
