I think I've finally found another David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) fan who shares my passion for his music. Believe me when I say this: for 12 years, I didn’t play a single song by any other artist-not even once. It was always, and I mean always, Pink Floyd. My obsession was so obvious that everyone around me, from my closest friends to the security guard in my building, knew I was a die-hard Floyd fan. There are two names that can be mentioned alongside David as the best of all time. Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimmy Page. You can pick one, but music doesn't require us to pick. It only wants us to enjoy.
@@jamessweet5341 When will people get off this "best of all time" nonsense. Just enjoy all the different styles of guitar by all the great guitarists out there.
Just saw David in Los Angeles last week. Doesn’t matter how old he is , that guitar TALKS…. I had chills in the encore when he ripped into the comfortably numb guitar solo. Every note , every second , you could feel the soul and beauty and creativeness of his playing. Absolute legend.
That is what it’s ALL ABOUT !! Almost a lost art. But a few of us are still out here. Still trying to teach a new generation how to be in “The Flow State “. Not always perfect notes , but ALWAYS 100% soul …. 100% feel ….. 100% heart ….. we won’t let it die. ✌️
Go see him in New York this weekend you won’t regret it. Went to his show Monday and some kid in front of me flew in from the Philippines for the show and went home the next day…love it
I was at the show in Royal Albert, I flew in from Holland, but the dude next to me flew in all the way from Argentina. He said he just HAD to witness Gilmour one last time, and I couldn't agree more.
Love you Mr. Gilmour. Your music has been part of my life for decades and has had such different meanings for me during different times of my life. Most recently, it's helped me through the passing of my mom. If you ever see this, thank you. 💜
I saw him at intuit dome and, my boy, it was a religious experience; now I've seen Gilmour and Waters and they are superb musicians. Wish I was born years ago to be able to see the band together live. I can only imagine. ❤
Last year I recorded at Abbey Road. We played Great Gig in there and it was very emotional feeling that history. Can’t believe it’s been fifty years - and Gilmour is still going. Good on him.
I've followed this man going on 50 years and this is the most I've heard him speak in one sitting for anyone. The world needs to invite this man on more late night shows to share his insight on things. A true legend in the music world.
He has a certain English "reserve" that sometimes makes him seem dower but I think he's very perceptive and humorous behind that exterior - and quite self-effacing and humble - which is partly why his persona resonates with a lot of people IMO (besides the fact that he was part of the unparalleled musical phenomenon that was Pink Floyd...:)) Great to see him still healthy and productive 🙏
I haven't seen David Gilmour interviewed very many times, but of the ones I have seen, this is the most upbeat and enthusiastic I've seen him to sit in the interviewee's chair by far. Beautiful to see him so much enjoying this current album and tour and even the promotion - a rebirth of his career and a monster refresh for the legacy of Pink Floyd. I'm not too much younger than David and have been a great fan and terrible player of rock music since that Sunday night 60 years ago when The Beatles made their 1st appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show and changed everything. With all my own longevity, no musician has pulled as many tears and deep appreciation out of me as Mr. Gilmour has. I'm so thrilled that he is enjoying this magnificent rejuvenation and that he can see and appreciate how much he has meant to so many generations.
Just saw him on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. His bass player came out before the show and he said it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that would never happen again. I'll always remember that.
It's awesome that he's still touring I saw him a few years ago at radio city music hall figuring it was probably one of my last chances to see him. I figured once he sold his black strat or he was done touring
I don't watch the late show at all... But I could not resist hearing the legend speak... This mans music touched my soul when I was younger, all the way to present day... I imagine when my life is at an end his music will still be bring me comfort at the end.
When four of the original band members, Gilmour, Waters, Wright and Mason got together on Live 8 stage to play 4-songs, trust me, I cried a bit. This is a band, I owe my music to. My go to music in last 30+ years. Musical trends come and go. One thing that's constant is Pink Floyd Music. And this man is God of guitar. Comfortably Numb, arguably the best guitar solo ever written, I picked up when I was a teen in early 90s and today, kids in 2024, are still doing the same and posting on Instagram. That makes me so frikkin proud.
David Gilmour's playing blows my mind, every time. Even as a little kid in the 70's. His even steady voice is always refreshing to me. I am a long time fan. Likely shaped my views of things. That's the power of music in the hands of a Master.
This gentleman is the reason I started playing guitar back in 1991. I saw Floyd in 1994 in Madison Wi. Jimmy you are only lucky guy to be able to sit there and chat with David.
Having been to 100+ concerts in my life by far the most incredible concert happened Saturday April 22, 1994 at the Oakland Coliseum Pink Floyd show. The show was amazing they turned the venue into a giant speaker bass speakers on the grass treble speakers in the seats and tweeters in the top tier there were so many speakers they displaced 500 seats. It was my 'Woodstock' moment and for that i thank you Mr. Gilmour. 🎉
@@Spaghetti_policy I found the actual concert filmed from the exact spot where I was standing to the left of front stage here on YT it was surreal lol I began looking for myself in the crowd scenes.
The greatest ever!! Had the pleasure of flying over from the UK to the Hollywood Bowl back in 2016 to see him and the show was absolutely amazing unbelievable.
David said that “Luck and Strange” is his best album since Dark Side and it’s true. Luck and Strange asks *such* deep questions and gives such stirring replies without really answering those deep questions. You must listen to “Scattered.” It’s the best song by any member of Pink Floyd or by Pink Floyd since Comfortably Numb.
@@JackRice007 “Let’s hope it’s not just luck and strange” is such a haunting warning to humanity that we shouldn’t take how good we’ve got it for granted. 🙌🙌
Didn't think David would come on a late night talkshow. Awesome to see him so relaxed. I saw him 5 times on this tour (Rome, LA (3x) and NY). Seeing it might be the last tour (hope not), I went all out and it was worth it.
Yeah, i always had a feeling that he never went public, or very rarely. Maybe he does more often in the UK, but just look at his current tour.....4 cities, a handful of shows, and that's it. So glad he did this interview. And so glad i saw him play the night before at MSG.
Great musician. David is one of those guitarists that can make you literally cry tears when he plays. I had the pleasure of seeing the Floyd in London many years ago. The lightshow was amazing, and 'Loud'...that doesn't begin to describe it!
Could only sit through Fallon’s show for David Gilmour. I have few heroes on this Earth. He is one of them. A lifelong fan and I take every opportunity to listen to him.
an Absolute Class Act in every sense of the word ....and still humble ..this man has recorded some of the most inventive and timeless music of the last century ..yet he is still polite, humble and zero ego ..(watch and learn so called celebs/artists of today) ..the fact he says 'boring' towards the end of the interview when explaining about his recording /lyric / music writing process ...as if he assumed folks aren't interested in the details .and almost apologizes for it..,sums up exactly why he is such an incredible artist of integrity and kindness ....YES David ..it is these details we absolutely DO want to hear about ...🙂 I had the absolute pleasure of seeing him and his band play at the Royal Albert Hall in London last month ...felt so blessed...(first time seeing him since Floyd on Momentary lapse tour in the late 80s) this mans musical prowess is still outstanding and his playing has not diminished at all ..and his Daughter Romany has an incredible voice .....if you get a chance to still see him on this tour ..don't doubt it ..its something very very special indeed 🙂
He's just class. The room is full of his calming charm and everybody's listening. Same when he plays the most amazing tones on stage. Not only he's a fantastic musician, but also a proud family man, peacefully enjoying himself. 😊
Had the privilege of going to his show twice when he was in Los Angeles. What a performance, the genuine joy and affection of Dave sharing the stage with his daughter and the band was a tremendously special experience. Something about Dave’s music is how the songs take on a life on their own when played on the stage. It was a metaphysical experience.
David Gilmour really is the true meaning of the word 'Legend' He looked so proud when talking about his kids playing along with him, who can blame him. He has achieved so so many great things in life but I guarantee, nothing will match the achievement of your kids following in your footsteps, especially when its someone as great as David Gilmour.
David has always been such a gentleman, and always answers the same questions from the media with patience. Also one of those rare great players who also sings fantastically, like Clapton. There haven't been many who can do both so well.
@@Uninfluenceable I'll try to keep this short. In High School listening to the Wall - the whole album - it was just crazy great. I vividly remember telling a friend of mine how great the album was and that one song that stood out (especially the lead solo at the end) is called Comfortably Numb. I said the guitar feels like it cries out in pain, anger, sadness - as if it's singing a full song telling a full story by itself. Fast forward - I go to college, play football, met a woman, got married, had kids, I blink and i'm 50 years old. Never been on Social Media - and I hear about the app calked Vine. I play the guitar. I get on the app - meet other musicians and one day there is a Vine that says leave a comment on your favorite guitar solo of all time. Immediately I go to type: Comfortably Numb -by Pink Floyd - Then it occurs to me that the people on this app are 30 years younger than me. Nobody is going to know what I'm referring to - a song from the late 70's buried in a long concept album...I'll probably get laughed at with a lot of references to Grandpa!" - then I thought - I don't care - they asked for a favorite - so I posted it. The next day I get on and I'm going through the comments and there are a ton of them and to my shock - well over half of them are: Comfortably Numb. I couldn't believe it. I'm still in awe of that moment - even later on a youtube Channel by a guy named Rick Beato - he posted his top 20 lead solos of all time - his number one: Comfortably Numb. All that to say that it fed my soul a little encouragement - as I've grown older, it's become obvious that society pulls away from the old people as a whole with only very few exceptions. We become less relevant and it's just the way it has to be I guess. I don't know - but seeing how people were embracing a lead solo that was my favorite - from back in my time....made me feel....less forgotten. Ok. enough of an old guy rambling. If you say it rivals comfortably numb, I'm all in and I sincerely thank you for letting me know about it. I'll buy the album and listen to it many times over this weekend. Take care -
My favorite musician, from my favorite band, what a treat! 🥰 Thank you Mr. Gilmour, for everything you've accomplished, all the hours spent creating, rehearsing, collaborating. You, and your bandmates, gave me (and many millions of other people) so much joy. I cannot express how happy I am to be living in the same timeline that saw the birth and glorious ascension of Pink Floyd. I've been a fan for 40+ years, and my opinion has never changed. Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band on this planet, and you Sir, the greatest rock & blues guitarist. And not only are you a great musician, but you're a great role model as well. A mensch!
It's called the "Dark side of the Rainbow" and there is definitely correlation from the song to the movie especially at the "witch is witch" under the house and "which is which" in the song.
Whereas most guitarists try to play the most notes as fast as possible, David gets the most out of every note - letting each note duly live its life before playing the next. That's art in its purest form. Thank you for continuing to bless the world, David, it needs you.
What an incredible talent David Gilmour is and still producing great records. I have been into Floyd since Meddle came out and bought Dark Side the day it came out. I htink most that heard Dark Side for the first time thought it would be a classic decades on. I like how Jimmy made a reference to Syd Barrett since David produced a few of Syd's solo records and helped him along following his departure from the band. David is so lucky to produce his new music with his family.
Saw him in Hollywood at the Hollywood Bowl. Flew from Chicago just to see him. Could be the very last time I’ll ever get a chance to see him. I feel very complete knowing I’ve seen Roger Waters and now David Gilmour. Pink Floyd is my all time favorite band. Thanks David
Listening to David Gilmour is the special moment when you believe in good, humanity, purpose and order of everything. You know that life is not an empty thing. Thank you, David, for everything you have given to this world!
Not enough is said about David Gilmour's amazing vocals. As a guitar god, his vocals are rarely mentioned. Romany is clearly a gifted songbird like her father. As well, her musicianship and talent I believe, have kept her father more motivated and we are the benefactors! PS Of course he was a model!
@@CLos93. That's good to hear. When he and Richard Wright sang together, it was magic. Any performer he sang with, made the song better. The very best version of, 'Running up that hill, is the live version he accompanies Kate Bush (who he discovered).

David Gilmour, Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Jimmy Page, Mark Knopfler....those were the pioneers of Rock music. It was wonderful to see the one and only David Gilmour! Just two days before this interview, I attended a concert by Paul McCartney in San Jose, Costa Rica. It's funny how the world works and how everything is interconnected! In the interview, Gilmour even mentioned McCartney again, which was a surprise. I have tremendous respect for this amazing musician and his incredible stories. Thank you David!
I had the privilege of seeing Pink Floyd live stadium tour in the 90’s and it changed my outlook on life forever and his voice will always fill my heart and head. GOAT.
David is legendary. I also like his mentioning Rick Wright, an innovator on the then most current effects for keyboards, integral to the early PF sound. But Dave's solo on Comfortably Numb has to rank up there with the greatest guitar solos. Thanks, Dave.
Would love to converse with David. And hear all his stories of his career. Keep the candle burning David! It's always a great journey I take, when listening to your career melodies in their own entities! Have fun on your tour!
Saw him live on Halloween at the Hollywood Bowl. Great performance from a dude I listened to since I was in elementary school in the 90s! The Wizard of Oz coinicindes are so cool! The songs line up perfectly with the scene and fits the mood with the sound. There are like 20 parts where the lyrics have direct things on screen like "balanced on the biggest wave" while Dorthy is balancing on a fence. Then "who knows which is which and who is who" is sang exactly when Dorthy is talking to 2 witches she just met. The most amazing moment is when he sings "black, black, black, black" at the exact moment the witch dressed in black makes her big entrance. Then "and blue" the camera moves from the witch to Dorthy in blue dress. Everyone always acts like it's just a stoner thing but it actually is fun to experience.

I was there, too. The magic carries over whenever I turn on his music in the car now. Magical night.

This the end of the short tour? Yep he's fantastic live 👌🍀👍
I was at the Royal Albert Hall in a Grand Tier box, the people in front of us had come from New Zealand.
I was at the show in Royal Albert, I flew in from Holland, but the dude next to me flew in all the way from Argentina. He said he just HAD to witness Gilmour one last time, and I couldn't agree more.

Absolutely.
Love you Mr. Gilmour. Your music has been part of my life for decades and has had such different meanings for me during different times of my life. Most recently, it's helped me through the passing of my mom. If you ever see this, thank you. 💜

I've followed this man going on 50 years and this is the most I've heard him speak in one sitting for anyone. The world needs to invite this man on more late night shows to share his insight on things. A true legend in the music world.
No words can describe how amazing this man's work is.
David is class act to the max! We need more great people like him in this world!
David for President! Oh wait......
Not much time for creativity if it's spent on TikTok watching people take stupid challenges.
I’ve never seen him so funny and “himself” during an interview 😍
I agree! He seems genuinely content and happy. Wonderful to see.
Watch all the Docs with him in them.
At this stage he can do what ever he likes , top man
He has a certain English "reserve" that sometimes makes him seem dower but I think he's very perceptive and humorous behind that exterior - and quite self-effacing and humble - which is partly why his persona resonates with a lot of people IMO (besides the fact that he was part of the unparalleled musical phenomenon that was Pink Floyd...:)) Great to see him still healthy and productive 🙏

I was glued to this interview. A musical genius that has been affecting my life since 1973
Just saw him on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. His bass player came out before the show and he said it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that would never happen again. I'll always remember that.

Saw this guy in 2015 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
I'll never forget. My favorite guitarist
Gilmour was not an original member
I cried as well. I knew I was witnessing a historic musical moment and knew I would never see them together again.
They were literally in the first 10-20 videos I ever watched on this unfamiliar thing, UA-cam.
The solo at the end of Pigs blows anything I’ve ever heard away.
Well put my lord ❤
I saw him at Massey Hall in Toronto, many years ago, he gave me a guitar pick I still have! Sweet man!
David is such a cool man!! Imagine meeting him at a pub and hearing stories all night. A window into time. We must protect him at all costs.
David Gilmour's playing blows my mind, every time. Even as a little kid in the 70's. His even steady voice is always refreshing to me. I am a long time fan. Likely shaped my views of things. That's the power of music in the hands of a Master.
Thank you Jimmy for actually shutting up for this one and not interrupting so much.

This gentleman is the reason I started playing guitar back in 1991. I saw Floyd in 1994 in Madison Wi. Jimmy you are only lucky guy to be able to sit there and chat with David.
I saw them in 94 in Columbus, Ohio. My first-ever concert, hard to top it!
Me too, around the same time. Heard “Dark Side of the Moon” and wanted to learn guitar afterwards. No album like it really
Gilmour. 🎉
I was there. Pink Floyd’s sound system was the shiz.
That was the Turbosound Flash and Flood speakers tour. It was nicknamed Flash Flood Floyd as I recall. Point source arrays not line arrays.

Probably one of my favorite jimmy falllon interviews of all time. WOW, totally brought me back down to earth tonight. I feel, comfortably numb.
The end guitar solo is as good as anything he's done.

Didn't think David would come on a late night talkshow. Awesome to see him so relaxed. I saw him 5 times on this tour (Rome, LA (3x) and NY). Seeing it might be the last tour (hope not), I went all out and it was worth it.

I love listening to Gilmour talk almost as much as I love listening to his guitar playing.
an Absolute Class Act in every sense of the word ....and still humble ..this man has recorded some of the most inventive and timeless music of the last century ..yet he is still polite, humble and zero ego ..(watch and learn so called celebs/artists of today) ..the fact he says 'boring' towards the end of the interview when explaining about his recording /lyric / music writing process ...as if he assumed folks aren't interested in the details .and almost apologizes for it..,sums up exactly why he is such an incredible artist of integrity and kindness ....YES David ..it is these details we absolutely DO want to hear about ...🙂
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing him and his band play at the Royal Albert Hall in London last month ...felt so blessed...(first time seeing him since Floyd on Momentary lapse tour in the late 80s) this mans musical prowess is still outstanding and his playing has not diminished at all ..and his Daughter Romany has an incredible voice .....if you get a chance to still see him on this tour ..don't doubt it ..its something very very special indeed 🙂
Saw him in Rome a month ago. Brilliant. The guitar tone was an absolute pleasure.
David Gilmour is an icon , amazing guitar player!
David Gilmour really is the true meaning of the word 'Legend'
He looked so proud when talking about his kids playing along with him, who can blame him.
Didn't know he released something new. I'm all over that! The Wall came out when I was in High School...love Pink Floyd - David is the best.
You’re in for a treat.
The guitar solo at the end of the the last song of the album called Scattered, truly rivals Comfortably Numb
Take care -
Give it a listen, it is one of the best albums of 2024
Get to New York this weekend for his last two shows of the tour!

Yes Gilmour learned that lesson from the master Eric Clapton (Mr. Slowhand himself)
@karmicselling4252 David already had it in him - Clapton may have encouraged David to express it, but he didn't put it there.

I need to get really high and watch that some day.
