  • Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, it’s difficult or impossible to create. This video shows a few things you can make that require no creativity or inspiration. No specific materials are required, other than paper scraps, digis/scrapbook paper or Tim Holtz layers packs and glue. At the end I share three more ideas of ways to include flat lace or lace scraps into your ephemeral pieces. Thank you for watching, for your kindness and happy creating to you.

    My dear internet friend...you have helped me through some dark moments these past few months with my back issues, been there with an inspiring video that took my mind off my pain and helped me relax when I couldn't sleep. I wish it was that easy to help you, and your family, through the loss of your wonderful son. I never had children so I cannot even imagine the life changing grief you must be feeling and anything I could say, or anyone could say, cannot take away one ounce of the pain you are experiencing. Just know that your youtube community is grieving with you and for you, and holding you and your family close to our hearts and will continue to keep you in our thoughts. I know after losing my mother how I needed projects that I loved and could get lost in helped me. My love and work is historic architecture, so I spent many nights researching buildings and architects through many sleepless nights. I hope your beautiful crafting and sharing your ideas gives you some moments of peace and joy. It will never change or make better what you are going through but hopefully it gives you some peace and lowers the anxiety level just a little. Sending love and prayers from Arizona.

    What great ideas! I am definitely going to try them. You inspired me to get out my Big shot and do some make aheads for my favorite dies just on white cardstock. I can put them in a box and color them with inks when I have an idea of what I want to do. So many times I stop because I don't feel like getting my more bulky items out to create with to just one thing. So if I spend some time prepping my favorites, then I will have something to create with. Thank you for this great video. I can hardly wait for the next one.

    So many great ideas here, Cori. Isn't it funny how you start doing prep, because you don't feel creative, and then all of a sudden the prep work sparks an idea and off you go? Doesn't always happen, but i love when it does. Thanks for the bow tip. I needed that!

      Hi Denise. I was pondering the no-creativity angle because of some messages I received and some comments on a video. There are times a person really wants the distraction of making something, but not the responsibility of making decisions. So, I thought about it and this is where I landed. The bonus for me is that it is helping me to re-discover supplies in my stash and to use them ❤️

    • @denisebrown4933
      @denisebrown4933 4 місяці тому

      @@CoriDahmen "... the distraction of making something, but not the responsibility of making decisions." Perfect description of how I feel at times. Or, I may be willing to make decisions, but can't. So I will sit at the jewelry bench, or at my craft table, and put bits and pieces together and take them apart and nothing looks right. I have learned to be content with those days because I know from my blurred meanderings, something good will form up tomorrow or the next day. Thanks for answering, Cori.

    Prep work is soothing. The repetitive actions coupled with just enough decision making is perfect. You brought me back to my classroom time. We always made what I called flag book marks. They look like folded flags. And, then I remembered we made zines, though I didn't know them by that name. It was a nonverbal lesson as I only used observational demonstration. Thank you for sharing. I lost my daughter 5 years ago,. I’ve lost many family members over the years, but there is no pain that compares to losing a child. I’m so sorry Cori. There really are no words to help, except please know that we are all here for you and do what you can when you can. Those are my words of advice.
    What a great video, why have I never thought of using Tim’s items to build upon. Guess what I’m going to be doing later today?
    Sending hugs and love your way 💙🌀

    Continued prayers for you and your family Cori. ❤ Wish I could say something comforting, and helpful but losing a child leaves me without words other than I’m praying for you.
    Crafting can be a comforting respite and I hope that’s what it is providing you.
    Your videos are so inspiring, thank you for sharing.
    I have a question - how do you laminate the piece of ephemera with backing without actually laminating the piece with the plastic coating? (I hope my question makes sense.)

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  4 місяці тому

      Thank you Julie and yes, your question made perfect sense. I don't actually laminate the pieces... in this case the front of the journaling cards to the backs. I use the heat and pressure of the laminator to reactivate the glue that I placed between the layers to hold them together. I don't use any laminating film. I just place the two glued-together sheets through the hot laminator and let them roll out the other side. The heat reactivates the glue and the pressure smooths out any gaps between adhesion. If I've spread the glue stick over all or most parts of one side this method works pretty well to make sure they are no lifts or bubbles.

    Nope, I didn’t know how to make the bow go straight. I had to watch it twice and now I have to try it.

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  4 місяці тому +1

      As you're looking at the bow (not when it's on your shoe and you're looking at it upside down), the string or ribbon on the right should begin on top of or over the ribbon on the left and folded/pushed through so that it's on the top, and to the left. Then make your loop on the left, wrap with the right and pull through. That will (should...) give you a straight bow each time 😊

    Have you tried “Yes Paste”? It was one of the first glues I played with and one I use often still. The key is to use a very thin layer. I usually use a pallet knife to apply and then I put thru laminater if my gluing is haphazard that day. Lol

    Hi Cori,
    It's good to hear your voice again. I do have a few questions when you get a moment. Can you tell me if you have videos on how to make the cello tape and which color ink you use? Also, I've seen people using the magents, but I don't know which type of magnets are best to use and how they are attached. I'm assuming between paper layers. Do you have a video explaining the magnet application? Thank you in advance.

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  4 місяці тому +1

      Hi Sandy! Yes, I do have videos, but I'm 98% sure they are not stand-alone and the instructions are shared in videos that cover other questions. BUT, I can easily walk you through both questions. Magnets. I get them from Amazon and they are the 7 Gypsies brand/label as they are very thin. I believe there are two or three sizes (diameters) available. They have a sticky side with peel off labels that are clearly marked + and - . Just peel and place. I put one side down first, then peel the stickers and place the 2nd piece right on top of the first (sticky side up so it catches the top or closing paper) and press. I usually then cover the magnets with a strip of thin paper, glued all around the magnet, just to make sure the magnet adhesive doesn't pull away. The magnets are fairly strong and I think the paper could tear without that layer between them, holding each magnet section in place. The tape is super easy. I use scotch, but am sure any brand will work. I lay strips of tape, sticky side down, on parchment paper. I then add some random drops of latte and caramel alcohol ink to the top, smear it around a bit and let it dry. It dries super quickly. Then it's ready to use!

    Good morning Cori! Thanks for these great ideas. I have a question for you regarding using a laminator to "spread out" the glue once you've backed your items. What kind of laminator do you use; a hot or cold or one that can do both? Do you put the pieces through individually, even though they are small? I would love to see a quick "tutorial" on how you do this. This is such a great idea and makes great perfect sense when using a glue stick. I would like to get a laminator (but not spend too much on it) for just this purpose. Any insight that you can give would be appreciated. Again - you and your family are in my thoughts/prayers. Thank you.

      I use the Amazon basics laminator that has two settings for thickness (3 and5). It’s a heat laminator and it was right around $20… though I’ve had this one for a year or two and, like just about everything, it’s probably a bit more spendy now. I’ll show how I use it during my next video 😊

You ran the pieces through the laminater to reactivate the glue, you say?! How, wait... what!? 😮 do explain the technique or refer a how-to bc I am definitely interested

I have written to you before and ask you but have not gotten an answer, so could you please give me the answer, please please, question??? Where did you buy the little black magnets that sit on your desk. I have been trying to find them. I need a set of them for crafting and sewing and cutting fabric. I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks you every so much.
