  • This was a viewer request and it made way more sense in my head than I think it makes here. My apologies if it’s as clear as mud. For new folks, it shows what die cuts are and a few varied ways to make them and alter them for use in your journal projects. The makers I’ve referred to are Tim Holtz and Jennifer McGuire. Both have many videos on how to make and use diecuts with various inks and potions. Mine are simply created with junk journaling in mind. I hope this helps and happy creating!

    Wow, two years after you made this video and it pops up into my feed and I am loving these flowers the way you did them!! • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  3 роки тому

      They can and sometimes do curl up. I use a flat hair iron to straighten them when that happens. I just love the way the coffee or ink color absorbs into the edges of the paper, so I find it worth the extra bit of time 😊

    An EXCELLENT tutorial. Thank you! I’m an experienced paper crafter, so I understood completely. I have all the supplies I need. As an aside, we can see here how expensive it is to paper-craft. I bought stuff over the years when I could afford it. Luckily. I appreciate you divulging your methods. The tutorial re how dyes work on different types of paper is very helpful. I often go to white paper first, but it’s colored or dyed paper that gives a more realistic dimensional effect. I want to try faded purple. I love how you make flower centers. I now wonder if that technique will work on real pressed flowers. Large flower centers are impossible to press. At least for me. Thank you! Thank you!

    Have you considered cutting two or more flower "heads" and gluing the centers together after offsetting (rotating) them to give more dimension to the flower? Just rotate the flower head a bit, glue it and do it again, if you want with a third flower head in the stack for dimension. That would give the light and dark coffee dying more depth to the flowers with light and dark layers.

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  3 роки тому

      Thank you, I’ve done several like that, just depending on which flower head it is. One of my favorite things about working with diecut pieces is that they’re so versatile 😊

    This is awesome! So much to learn. I just recently got those TH dies so will definitely be cutting some of those. I realize this is from 2 years ago but do you remember which embossing powder you used? I love the little crystals in there. Thank you so much!

      I adore that embossing powder and use it all the time. It is Seth Apter Vintage Beeswax baked texture embossing powder. The granules and color variation found in the ep is just excellent. I get mine from SethApter.com

    Wow...Thanks for the tutorial! It’s a game changer! Coffee dying the flowers after cutting gives it so much more depth. And it never occurred to me to separate the flowers from the stems. So very clever, Cori! What do you do with the green flower heads that went with the green stems?

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  3 роки тому +1

      I just snip most of that section off and yes, I actually toss them. I generally leave a little bit as a glued base for the replaced flower head. Have fun!

    Hi, Cori! Just watched this video again to see if I missed something about the tracing paper flowers. I tried both of your methods of dying before and after cutting. My flowers all turned out the same. I used the same batch of coffee for sheets of paper and die cut flowers. I prefer your darker tracing paper flower so I wonder where I went wrong. Also, my die cut flowers rolled up and stuck together the minute they hit the coffee bath. I tore off a petal or two trying to unroll a few. Any suggestions?

    Thank you! Love your videos. What are the markers you used and the embossing powder? I replayed video several times to see if I could catch brand names, but I couldn’t see it. Thanks in advance for responding ☺️

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  3 роки тому +1

      I’m so sorry for the delay! I saw your response when I got notification of another. I use the Karin ProMarkers for the color and the embossing powder is Seth Apter Vintage Beeswax. I love that stuff! An ink pen/color you have can also work then top the area with clear embossing ink and you can get the same effect.

    Hi, Cori. Hope you're enjoying this summer (2023) so far. I'm rewatching this video for a dose of inspiration (you never fail to do that) and am wondering: what kind of marker are you using before applying the embossing powder? I was hearing 'Keirin" markers, the colosed caption said "Karen" markers. So, before I start a Google search for something that wounds like that, I wondered if you might respond with a spelling. Thanks, Cori.

    • @CoriDahmen
      @CoriDahmen  Рік тому

      One of the different types of markers I use for die cut pieces are the Karin Brushmarker Pro series. But truthfully, many types of pens work well, as well as ink pads. Once they're sealed with embossing ink and powder all of them become durable and permanent.
