I noticed when he wanted to sit beside Elsa when they were trapped in the tomb (i guess) he sort of circled the area he wanted to sit. I love how they integrated those minor attributes of a wolf, most werewolf movies don’t really do that.

I loved that they didn’t try to throw in any unnecessary jokes. You could really feel the seriousness of the situations
While still having amusing moments on a subtler scale! My partner and I had such a good laugh at "This End Up" and the carnival haunted house level presentation from Ulysses's corpse. Jack and Ted are also funny in their charming way. It's hilarious as one can ask for without cutting into the tone.

I love the old buddy/brother vibe of Jack and Ted. I , too, wondered what kind of troubles Ted needed rescuing from. I loved how Ted's demeanor changed when Elsa called him by name.
Even though it's not even an hour long, this special really uses all its time to build up interesting relationships between Jack, Elsa and Ted, I really hope to see more of them. Also, even though the effects are all practical they're just so much more interesting and fun than recent cgi effects. I hope this does well so Marvel will feel rewarded for trying something different
Well, I'm pretty sure ~~Man-Thing~~ Ted is CGI, but he looks great too so I'm not gonna knock that lol.
But yeah, I *really* hope they keep Jack's werewolf form as practical in future projects he appears in, it was great.

I think the reason that he looks so great is because the VFX artists were actually given time to work on him and weren’t rushed to move on to other effects. It honestly reminds me of the Pre Avatar films, which was a decade in which films used VFX as tools rather than 90% of the effects seen.
Definitely a breath of fresh air, the cinematography, acting and atmosphere brought this short to life and to bring in more of the supernatural side of the MCU. Keep at this Feige and Disney💯
This gives me hope that they’ll continue gore and brutality with other R rated marvel characters such as deadpool, daredevil, punisher and blade!
Especially Punisher. I need a good dose of Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle in my MCU 😍

I really hope that we get a brutal Punisher in the MCU. I know that it is rumored that he will be in Daredevil Born Again.
Deadpool 3 is confirmed to still be R-rated and the upcoming Marvel zombies series will be TV-MA which is pretty much an R-rating in tv terms
All those are characters from G rated comics.
I will point out, the kill number thing might be off. If you recall the mother says all the hunters have X number of confirmed “kills” but Jack has over 100 “deaths.” So they might be implying something else with him
Exactly. Later, he also says he’s “not that kind of hunter” or something to that effect.

I’m hoping Blade will start off an experienced monster hunter (specializing in vampires) with 200+ kills who has been working with Whistler but has to learn how to work with Nightstalkers (Elsa could also join them?)

This was a 100% love letter to the Universal Monster movies, and it was awesome. Everything was perfect about that. Ted and Jack need more screen time I love them so much
Gael Garcia Bernal killed it, fantastic actor. Can't wait to see him in the future, please. The MCU is digging deeper into the paranormal side
Michael Giacchino created a masterpiece. Arguably one of the best projects in Phase 4.

22:40 you can also tell his canine instincts when he's in the Crypt and he has to turn around twice before he sits down
I recently found out why dogs do this, such an amusing trait they haven’t outgrown.

I actually noticed Jack was sniffing all over the place. He mentioned the blood and as soon as he gets into hunting area he starts sniffing. He kinda lowers his head and almost searches with his ears listening. I think these subtle choices are amazing
That transformation was waaaaaay too perfect. It didn’t need to be seen. Was terrifying but had me cheering because of this style. Brought me back to Abbott and Costello times
This might be my favorite thing of Phase 4, depending on how Wakanda Forever turns out

I really liked it, the gore took me by surprise but I enjoyed it hopefully we see more like this for daredevil and blade.
This was a great addition to the MCU. The only thing that I think you may have missed is that when they go around the room and tell you how many kills every hunter has. They reference Jacks as Deaths and not kills. This is a subtle change in terminology but was a key early on to the difference between the monster hunters and Jack.
truly the stars absolutely aligned and the cinematography, acting , the overall aesthetic of the Halloween dark and horror feel was just awesome, it was really great to see more of the supernatural side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Michael Giacchino truly take a bow cause for his first directorial debut , he did a fantastic job and please Marvel let him do more of this .

I’m normally not a fan of Horror, but I rather enjoyed this. Marvel needs to do more stylized noir projects like this. Elsa Bloodstone and Ted were definitely my favorite characters.
And I definitely feel like this pocket reality is set in 1939, thanks to “Over The Rainbow” playing at the end of the episode.

The explosive that Jack uses to blow the wall and the shock sticks, that the guards use, say that this is a lot more modern than 1939.
It can’t be, the tombstones have death dates that go from the 1800s to the 1980s
Obviously not a pocket reality...since the crypt etchings have people dying in the 60s & 80s, etc.

as much as I love the cheesiness of the Wesley Snipes Blade movies, I'm so excited to see the mcu Blade.

Werewolf By Night 13, 14, & 15 were my "Gateway" comics back in the fall/Winter of 73. I have always had a soft spot for that character. Really loved the job they did with this.
i agree being a fan of the supernatual lore of marvel as a teen, i loved this special and seeing elsa, ted/manthing, jack and learning about the bloodstone lore
I absolutely loved Werewolf by Night. And I honestly would rather work on projects like this in the MCU than some of their others.
This is top tier mcu for sure... we need more like this it left me speechless from Jack to elsa to man thing my God this was good
I thought it was so cute when he walked in circles 3 times like dogs do before sitting when they were in the tombs. It's such a smart choice for this performance by Bernal. The scratch above the ears. So good!! Also, is it just me or is Elsa giving off Jessica Jones vibes?

This was such a pleasant surprise! I loved the action, drama, the monster designs... everything was gold! If there was any complaint or nitpick, it was over too soon.
Yeah this would’ve been amazing as a series.
My only complaint is that we dont have any more of this to watch at the moment

This special was absolutely amazing and is easily my favorite phase 4 project. Can’t wait to see more of the supernatural/monster corner of the MCU, especially from Giacchino!
I want to point out that since all the witnesses were killed except Elsa, who won't tell, Jack's condition remains a secret to the rest of the order. Elsa is now in charge and everyone just knows Jack as a very prolific hunter.
This was far beyond masterpiece. Everything will connect in future projects for sure. The Bloodstone family has a lot of secrets and its origins is very interesting.
The mystery Latin phrase at 8:19 could be "Take note [notice, observe, beware, etc.] of the monster: it is the best evil thing"
I had no idea the connection between Coco and Werewolf by Night when I decided to watch Coco while I waited for 2 AM to roll around to watch werewolf by night. These kinds of weird coincidences happen to me almost all the time. I’m almost not even surprised anymore.
The "goblin" thing introduced in the beginning was definitely a nod to the original movie vampire, Nosferatu. Notice Jack said he fought it a few times. Throughout history, vampires and werewolves were mortal enemies.
I saw Jack's glowing eyes as like the reflection you see in dogs' and wolves' eyes.
Honestly I loved Werewolf by Night. I thought it was incredible allowing for what it is. Monsters can look like humans too. Take care all.
All I can say is WOW we definitely need more jack and man thing scenes
This is definitely an homage to not only The Wolfman and classic Universal monster movies, but also The Beast Must Die. Loved this special and how it pays tribute to the classic monsters and first cinematic universe
and the jack transformation scene is a homage to the monster reveal from the 1940s-1950s in a shadow from afar where we only see the person's watching it and their fright and fear from what theyre seeing :D
I loved everything about Werewolf by Night! It was such a cool break from the MCU and a throwback to the old monster movies!
Agree with all the praise. Also, the chair dragging also reminded me of Tyrion in one of the Small Counsel meetings, where everyone else was jockeying for position, and then he dragged the chair, noisily to the opposite end of the table, directly facing Tywin.

Imo, this is by far the best content marvel has put out in Disney plus and we need more of this. We also need this remakes of classic horror movies in this style!
I want so badly for marvel to give us more unique things like this. It might be my favorite since the winter soldier. I'll need to watch it a few more times to be sure
The fact they showed this much gore and violence makes me really excited for things like blade and Deadpool 3. I know a lot of people were worried that Disney would make it pg-13 violence but this is pretty solid conformation they will have the same Deadpool 1-2 type violence still for some titles

When i saw the trailer i truly thought it was gonna be like an escape room - with one of the 6 being the werewolf, hiding it from the group, with them all trapped in the house, needing to kill the right person before they themselves die... wouldve been interesting
I had no idea what to expect when I watched it. I genuinely believe this may be my favorite thing from Marvel
I'm so sick of people hating on other MCU projects in order to boost this one up. You can just say something nice about Werewolf By Night without attacking other movies and shows. It's really simple.

I definitely understand that Jack was looking around the room while in the cage to register places to perch, but I also wonder if perhaps any of those other monsters could have been more empathetic as well but were also morphed prematurely by the stone to bring out their bestial nature and hunted
That's what I was thinking. Fantastic mixture of terror and other emotions in that scene.
Just watched this special twice and loved every second of it and the gore was a nice touch lol I'm glad they didn't shy too much away from it. Can't wait to see what they do Werewolf by Night going forward and "Ted" and Elsa 😊

Yeah I love horror and superheroe movie. Never thought marvel would actually do werewolf by night. This was a masterpiece and well directed. The score, cinematography, and choreography was incredible. I'm gonna watch this a few times.
For those wondering - the lunar phase on Feb 28, 1961 was a waxing gibbous. There was a full moon two nights later.
The cinematography, cast, storyline and mood of this were all sublime. One of my most unexpected favourites from the MCU. I hope we see a lot more in this vein.
I would love a video from you guys exploring the most violent deaths and murders in the mcu. Because there are a ton of them. The sword kill in this was gruesome but I feel like we’ve seen worse. Goo splat? Owl eating them? Shield decapitation? Car door decapitation? Mcu has its moments

Love this special. Hope Marvel pushes the boundaries in the future with the violent and horror. Love the practical effects, visuals, tone, story. This is one of the best in Phase 4 and hope to get Jack And Ted in Blade setting them up for The Midnight Sons.

@@Not-A-Troll Moon Knight, after ep 1. People get stabbed and shot with no blood. Plus most of the MCU’s gore is heavily censored by camera angle. This project had the Gore on camera for awhile.

I enjoyed everything about Werewolf By Night, and it was a fun romp that paid tribute to the awesome Universal monster movies. The character of Jovan was played by my good friend Kirk Thatcher!
Loved that they kept the werewolf look more costume like rather then going all extra cgi and huge body built type.

Yo my name is also Brock! Brocksfor the win
1) I think Jack killed or incapacitated the true 5th hunter and snuck in covertly to save his friend. Hence why he looks surprised at his "kill count" and the dangling of the medallion in the entrance scene before he wears it.
2) How is it that the hunter with the crossbow didn't also get locked in the mausoleum? It looks like he opened it from inside. Unless it was cracked open and wasn't completely shut at the time.
3) Although they play it as an old time early 30's and 40's timeline, given the coffin dates I think it's a misdirect and actually more recent. Perhaps setting this up to be an origin story for a Bloodstone team-up group that's actually been working behind the scenes for quite a while within the MCU.
4) I wonder how they trapped Manthing and who was able to put the bloodstone on him (and when)? Especially when it was in the room with them. Maybe one or a group of the random guards who come and go barely noticed.
5) I know they're not...but the hunter soldier definitely give me TVA vibes.
1.) In the comic the Werewolf is a prolific monster slayer and he says he's fought some of the monsters.
2.) He could have the key, or a lock pick.
3.) It's certainly set in modern times. The body armor of the henchmen totally dates it.
4.) Someone who wasn't afraid.
Anyone else notice that one monster on the left wall of that hallway looks EXACTLY like comic accurate Gorr the god butcher…?!

That crossed my mind like every 10 minutes watching this, if I wasn’t in love with Kristen ritters performance she’d be my top choice for Jessica.

I really liked Werewolf by Night -- very creatively done! I read some of the comics as a kid but I don't remember much. I am glad they stuck to the original design despite by longings to have a move Dog-Soldier-esque type of werewolf.
You should have mentioned how both cigarette burns happened above characters killed by ManThing. Not just signaling the Act changes.
I assumed Jack's kill count was including humans. Especially considering his surprise to hear that right after.

Michael Giacchino is one of my favorite composers of all time (since Lost). I was beyond ecstatic when I found out he directed this AND turned out to be a really great flick!

It is subtly mentioned earlier that he has over 100 “deaths”, not kills.
I think he is referring to his total body count when he could not control his werewolf side. Monsters + Innocents
He could also have been lying about it, and just wildly overestimated how high his count should be

Fantastic performance
Wasn't expecting that much carnage. Pleasantly surprised. The black and white probably helped so that they didn't have to tone it down, but if they do another monster movie in color I hope they keep the same violence.
This really got me in the mood for spooky season. Now to rewatch old monster movies.
The fact that they used prosthetic rather than CG is 10x better. This short film is a breath taking in phase 4.
I know it wasn’t done on purpose. But the dark circles around Jack Russell’s eyes remind me of Farkas from Skyrim. And that’s cool because they are both werewolves.
I think the bloodstone is actually from the chaos magic "tree". When used it reminded me of the darkhold
The "nota res mala optima" quote is saying "A known evil is best." Basically, "it's best to know your enemy"

The first room gave me The Haunted Mansion vibes. It reminded me of the round“room” with the portraits at the beginning of the ride (which was an elevator).
On the "left" mural, reminded me of a comic accurate Gorr (or his spiecies).
When Jack sat next to Elsa in the crypt, he turned around 360 degrees like dogs do before they sit 😁
What I understood was that Jack was impersonating a monster hunter and it wasn’t him who killed 100+ monsters.
Also when Jack tells Elsa that he is a normal human and only turns into werewolf once on the full moon night and locks himself up so as not to harm anyone.
This reminded me of the movie Wolfman(2010) where the character of Anthony Hopkins also locks him in the crypt so as not to kill his son.

Jack's Werewolf Design in the MCU is another banger in Phase 4's endless bangers of Main Character Costume Design.
I loved that they used parts of the TVA armor and weapons ... its something was done all the time in TV and Movies.. (for example, Ann-Margret's yellow dress from Bye Bye Birdie was reused in an episode of The Monkees)
I love all of this, but especially the final scene! I would love another special presentation with Jack and Ted!
Best thing I've seen out of phase 4. Really enjoyed this from the story, the characters and the cinematography. The cigarette burns made me laugh. Haven't seen those in while - great stuff. Seems like a project of love. Well done.
This show was awesome. I have always liked Man-Thing in the comics and I am glad to see him in the MCU. I also can't wait to see Elsa and Jack in the Midnight Sons.
Was really surprised they showed the death of characters. For sure what marvel needed was a good story like this one. If all of phase 4 was like this, it would definitely be a delight
Two things I’m pretty sure about, relating to your analysis of the trailer:
Firstly, that goblin-vampire monster is a strigoi. They’re like more monstrous versions of vampires.
Secondly, fragments of the Blood Gem are usually called bloodstones.
