I came back to say that you can thank Randy Pitchford for the disclaimer "not actual game footage" at the bottom of certain gameplay footage before a game releases. During Colonial Marines's development, Gearbox would showcase footage that Pitchford repeatedly claimed was in-game, but after the game was downgraded graphically at launch and it was discovered that the footage shown wasn't in the game itself, Gearbox was sued for false advertising and SEGA sued them for misuse of company funds, as the money was meant to be used exclusively for Colonial Marines, like Pigpen says.
While I think Borderlands was okay, I would much rather have a SUPERIOR ALIEN:Colonial Marines video game and possibly great sequels along with ALIEN Isolation 2 and 3 eventually.
One thing I do have to add: Both Ridley Scott and Alan Dean Foster have stated that the point of David's story was not to depict him creating the Xenomorph. The point of the Prequels was to show Humanity's hubris is not exlusive to humanity. The Engineer's created the Xenomorphs, thousands of years ago. We know this is this the case, as we see the egg chamber and Spacejockey in Alien, and it's been there for centuries. David is said to have 'perfected' an 'organism' that the Engineer's feared. That organism wasn't the Deacon, it was the Xenomorph. David's creations are not Xenomorphs, but 'Perfect' Xenomorphs, or 'True' Xenomorphs. The entire point of that duology is that human's are looking for their creators while creating life themselves, only to find out our creator's don't care about us, they also made monsters, and we see in real time that even OUT creations can build monsters, (David building the New Xeno). Also, the Xeno mural isn't a mural of a Xeno at all, Scott has confirmed that was a Deacon. Scott and Foster have explained that the film was intentionally vague, as to leave the viewer in the dark on which came first, the Chicken or the Egg. We aren't meant to know where the Xenos come from, if they're explicitly made by the Engineers, or if they're David's creation. It's Scott's metaphor for the futility of searching for God, because God isn't knowable, and at the same time, he's all around us. But of course that went over fans heads, and Scott and Foster had to come out and say "Yeah, David just reverse engineered an existing Xeno species that the Engineers built a long time ago."
"We aren't meant to know where the Xenos come from, if they're explicitly made by the Engineers." Bovine feces fear isn't mitigated by knowledge they are still enigmatic and no less dangerous. The fuck-up by the Engineers just shows they still make mistakes genius non-human ones. Just as the Star-Heads that made Shoggoths later made the Engineers on Earth 20 million years ago too. Like father like son similar mistakes since the black xenomorphs are slave too.
You also forgot to mention that when Johnny and Jax are selected to fight one an the other and they have the predator skins they will reenact the you son of a bitch scene in game.🐱
Really neat video. Thanks for that. Quick correction: The Colonial Marines game isn't canon and never was. Randy Pitchford tricked some nerd from Kotaku into thinking it was just to hype the game and the guy ran with it, but it's not official lore even though a lot of people think it is and in fact want it to be. Mainline film canon isn't replaced by video games. At least not in Alien. But again, awesome video.
@@sgarden9111 but does it actually conflict with anything from the films? It sounds like you are saying that games are not allowed to be canon to the movies world. Which would be sad as that Hoard Mode Alien game helped me understand concepts from Prometheus much better.

Some of your points are explored more in the expanded media. Like Xenomorphs have been shown to express emotions. Warriors and drones have expressed grief when a Queen dies, a Queen was shown emotional distress when being forced to watch her young burn to death. Xenomorphs have shown signs of fear, anger and even personal revenge against certain individual enemies. They also express enjoyment when “toying” with their prey. Loved this video, but just thought to mention there is ALOT more explored in expanded media.
I was going to reply with the fact about the Queen from Aliens telling the drones (or whatever they are called) to back off when Ripley showed her the flamethrower and it's abilities...and then her reaction to Ripley burning and blowing up the hive, she was in distress and you could tell....and then she came for Ripley and HER young. Just wanna say I greatly appreciate the amount of work you put in your videos. I love listening to them when I'm doing chores around the house, or just playing some game that doesn't require you to hear much.
After watching for a while, I’ve noticed a consistent theme is awesome films/cuts of films/TV Shows/ games being cut in favor of worse products. We are in the bad timeline for the alien franchise.

Just got reminded of The predator (2018) movie’s existence. Day ruined And entires like the last one, just adds more fuel to the fire of the train wreck that was The predator
1:13:17 there is some evidence that Aliens intelligence can be influenced by their original hosts. The Aliens Fireteam Elite tie-in novel, “Infiltrator,” features an alien known as “Monica,” that took on some of the behaviors of its host. It had an affinity for the scientist, Hoenniker (for spoilery reasons I won’t go into,) and would crack its neck in the same way her namesake would.
I think the biggest piece of evidence for Xenomorph intelligence is in Aliens, when the Queen sneaks aboard the dropship to get onto Sulaco, and then actively attempts to kill Bishop, Newt, and Ripley. Maybe I'm just reading into this too much, but to me, that is not the behavior of an animal acting purely on instinct. That is the behavior of a mother trying to avenge the deaths of her children.
@@occam7382 To add to the Alien Queen's behavior in that same movie; when Ripley first encounters it, the Queen is able to understand and comply with a threat. That's borderline sentient behavior.
Just to comment on whether Xenomorphs are sentient/sapient or intelligent. If I remember correctly it was mentioned in a comic which name totally espaces me right now that when someone was telepathically linked to the Xenomorph hive mind they could feel emotions, but it was basically just a sea of unhinderred rage and primal aggression without any capability to reason. Though technically it could be argued that Xenomorphs are capable of evolving so given enough time they could become intelligent or even sentient if the traits are deemed advantageous for their survival as a species but that's just speculation
Was not expecting an aliens and predator iceberg from pigpen, I know pretty much all of this already because I am an aliens mega fan this will still be an awesome watch, thanks a lot pigpen, goose approved!
Just finished the cyberpunk one and you posted this! Amazing work as always!! As for my favorite movie, I actually liked Alien 3 when i first saw it, granted I was a teenager but I really liked the setting and thought it had a good conclusion. Maybe if I watch it again I'll change my mind but who knows
2:28:19 I went on this! I Completely forgot about it until this unlocked that memory. It had the Xenomorph in a tube which escaped, then you'd feel breathing on your neck and other sensory things like water vapour. this was '97 or '98 so I was about 10.
I’m suprise your subscribers are not in the millions, you have some awesome content in your channel,I like how you go step by step into explaining stuff including stuff we didn’t know. Continue the great work myself
You're actually the goat, your icebergs help me get to sleep so much better than anything else, it's honestly just so relaxing its like having facts beamed directly into my brain and it helps me focus on one thing instead of my mind wandering Also I'm a rare alien resurrection enjoyer, i love when the human alien said "its resurrecting time" and resurrected all over Ripley
I remember some official Alien timeline in one of the books mentioned “conflicting” in-universe reports about whether the alien in 3 was birthed from an ox or a dog. Maybe it’s been updated since, but at least as of a few years ago they were noncommittal about which cut of Alien 3 is canon.
I have been searching for a very long lore/behind the scenes video for alien or predator to get stoned to, and you provided two in one! Cant wait to binge this
I came here looking for the indepth lore for Alien vs predator and it turned out to be a giant batch of gaggle-goonery.... The fact you put this together even with all this mental turmoil I think you deserve a good nap.
56:24 The Predator and AVP films are set in the same canon but both are separate from Alien films since Scott's prequels show that Davis is the one who created the Xenomorph and that doesn't really fit well with Predators hunting Xenomorphs for 100s of years before Prometheus happened So unless time travel is introduced at some point, Blade Runner and Alien could still theoretically exist in the same universe
If i remember correctly, the Alien/Predator universe is canon to predator, but not Alien, right? Like... Alien is definitively its own thing, but also the Alien stuff is canon to predator, but not vice versa? That was how it was explained to me a while back
kickass video. youtube actually put this on while i was asleep and i woke up half way through. played it back from the beginning tho. subbed and browsing your backlog now.
Fitting how this iceberg came after the Cyberpunk one, since this one reminded me of Colonial Marines' launch controversy. With Cyberpunk 2077 being sued for false advertising, and becoming a prime example of it; I remember when Colonial Marines was the previous example for it, with its promising demo footage having people originally hyped.
YESSSSS WAKE UP BABE NEW AVP CONTENT JUST CAME OUT fr though thanks this is a awesome topic, another good one may be hmmm DOOM and its mods and all that (columbine shooters, censorship, creepypasta, etc) that's the best i got but obviously you're better at finding good topics than me, keep it up man.
At this point, I'll watch anything you make! You're so good at this idgaf about Aliens or Predator but you make it so fun to learn about! You can even make an iceberg about TREES and I'll still watch it! Keep up the good work.
Itbh, i wouldnt blame disney for shutting down the idea of a horror attraction based on the alien franchise. That sounds like something you would see at a Universal theme park
It's a shame AvP: R was so bland. It had the coolest Predator (Wolf) in the entire franchise and the only time we see a Predalien on film. But the movie was full of issues. The human characters were laughably lame and I'm pretty sure everyone I know who has seen it has the same complaint. It's WAY too dark Also, Should be noted that the Predator that Dutch lost a fight to was the Cleopatra Predator that is also featured in the Hunting Grounds game. Oh my God. . . There's an absolutely AWFUL alternate reality where they got Steven Seagal as Harrigan instead of Danny Glover Honestly, good On Fincher for not just letting Fox push him around and actually pushing back and being an annoyance to them. If you can't change the movie for the better like you want, at least piss off the people ruining it
Was thinking about the Alien getting its arm ripped off in the novel, when You in fact mentioned it! While I still question whether this is not simply a "list of things that exist", rather than an actual "Iceberg", that one bit you mentioned has left me, regardless, a satisfied consumer.
To be clear, my understanding of the iceberg concept is that it should be a number of facts interlinking in a way that did deeper and deeper into stranger and stranger associations. Here I see a lot of things mentioned that have no interesting ties to anything else, it connections which are mostly lateral and don't continue to branch out or drill down deeper. If I've misunderstood the iceberg concept, please correct me as I'm absolutely not an expert. That's just the impression I got from the few videos of that type which I've seen
Hey man just finished this video. I would consider a movie length video a Production. You had to look at this up, record ( multiple times) and then edited it all. As someone who has done 5 minute videos, this takes a heck of lot of time. So well done sir I hope you are feeling better.
37:08 Until Scott came in and f^cked the franchise up. Not only did he made 2 piss poor attempts prequels. He f^cked up the Xenomoph’s origins. Massively down graded them from being this unknown, highly deadly species that must’ve evolved for millions of years with other deadly organisms on a very alien planet. To being a pet project for his favorite boy toy, David. Which is also convoluted since we see a “proto” Xenomoph on the wall of the the Engineers Juggernaut. But he also f^cked Blomkamp’s Alien 5, which was shaping up to look a hell of a lot better than Scotty’s piss poor prequels. And the fans that really wanted to see it. All for a 3rd installment that no one would want to see and isn’t even coming out. Way to go Scotty, way to go…
The Prequels are the best films in the franchise, together with the original. David, Shaw and Engineers are way more interesting than anything else in the franchise. Xenomorphs being just deadly space bugs is so boring.
Small tidbit about The Hunt: Aliens vs Predator that should probably be clarified. In this script, the character of Noguchi is not Machiko Noguchi, the female protagonist of the original AvP comic series, but rather Hiroko Noguchi, a male character who would essentially be a mix between Machiko and Hiroki Shimura, the former administrator of the Ryushi colony and friend of Machiko who died pretty early into the Xenomorph invasion.
After skimming through a small part of alien resistance on Xenopedia it honestly should be made into alien isolation sequel it sounds so fucking cool just by reading little snip bits without getting the comics and reading it properly as a video game it would do very well has to be a mix of action and horror keep that first game element of the horror in tho instead of the tuning and gunning on colonial marines 2013. Also isolation needs to be made into a tv series or film another chance for it to get a sequel
People complained about Alien 3, and then Ridley went ahead and made the Xenomorphs a biproduct of a fucking android and the ancient, mysterious Pilot just some blue dude in a suit from like fifty years before the first movie. Neat. Edit: Also, the toys for Operation Aliens were fucking awesome. I had several of them as a kid, and the Scorpion Alien blew up if you pressed a button on it. Fantastic stuff
Also, humanity came from black goo, too. Alien was a fairly intelligent franchise that usually had engaging characters, and Scott ANCIENT ALIENS'D the crap out of it and gave us c-grade horror movie characters.
I still think the most fun I ever had playing an Alien video game was an arcade cabinet that was at my local arcade/go-cart/mini-golf place when I was a kid. It was a top-down shooter, and it was HELLA fun.
Actually the audio logs in predator hunting grounds were literally there just to retconn the suit lmao they said it was too brittle for actual use and they scrapped it for tech
I'm gonna be "that guy" but Alien: Resurrection WAS my favorite for a long time. I've seen the original two so many times I find myself watching Prometheus/Covenant more often now.
@@CombatUnit621 I think I speak for most when I say I loved District 9, but even Blomkamp at his best is tonally at odds with the Alien franchise. He's all about metaphors on the state of the world, and Alien is far more internal with its metaphors.
@@plaguedoctorjamespainshe6009 right, like I said, they're all internal metaphors, aka about people and experiences. Blomkamp is more focused on external metaphor, the state of the world, culture, politics

You mean't. Try to kill him?
@occam7382 Chimpanzees, sibirian tigers, and crows go for revenge. Elephants do it, too, so animals have social traits beside instincts.
Hell yea, chimp justice 😎 🙊
Just to comment on whether Xenomorphs are sentient/sapient or intelligent. If I remember correctly it was mentioned in a comic which name totally espaces me right now that when someone was telepathically linked to the Xenomorph hive mind they could feel emotions, but it was basically just a sea of unhinderred rage and primal aggression without any capability to reason. Though technically it could be argued that Xenomorphs are capable of evolving so given enough time they could become intelligent or even sentient if the traits are deemed advantageous for their survival as a species but that's just speculation
This is a certified alien classic!
And predator classic
Nice

I still liked Prometheus and Covenant, but I feel like their potential was wasted. Especially Prometheus. It was about questions no one asked.
I asked what the Xenomorphs were and where they came from, so somebody did ask them.
21:07 huh, this scene actually got brought back somewhat in Predator 2, I think that's neat.
Was not expecting an aliens and predator iceberg from pigpen, I know pretty much all of this already because I am an aliens mega fan this will still be an awesome watch, thanks a lot pigpen, goose approved!
Criminally underrated Channel. Best iceberg videos on varying topics to keep it fresh. And the transition videos are cool keep up the good work
Just finished the cyberpunk one and you posted this! Amazing work as always!! As for my favorite movie, I actually liked Alien 3 when i first saw it, granted I was a teenager but I really liked the setting and thought it had a good conclusion. Maybe if I watch it again I'll change my mind but who knows
Working the night shift alone tonight, thanks for great content to keep me company!
I was looking for something like this 2 weeks ago and finding nothing. You came in clutch with this, man 🔥
Gi joe got done dirty 💀
Yo...bro...😢😂😂
2:28:19 I went on this! I Completely forgot about it until this unlocked that memory. It had the Xenomorph in a tube which escaped, then you'd feel breathing on your neck and other sensory things like water vapour. this was '97 or '98 so I was about 10.
I’m suprise your subscribers are not in the millions, you have some awesome content in your channel,I like how you go step by step into explaining stuff including stuff we didn’t know.
Continue the great work myself
Thankyou algorithm for giving me new sleep content. Iceberg videos are the best for it
You're actually the goat, your icebergs help me get to sleep so much better than anything else, it's honestly just so relaxing its like having facts beamed directly into my brain and it helps me focus on one thing instead of my mind wandering
Also I'm a rare alien resurrection enjoyer, i love when the human alien said "its resurrecting time" and resurrected all over Ripley
This is gonna be a good one. Love the videos man.
They need to remaster AVP 2010
49:42 - "also, they made the xenomorph queen thick ..." said so deadpan and matter-of-factly. ROFL...
wow. are we actually so far away from 80s pop culture that kids now don't know how to pronounce patrick swayze
Sadly, yes

I remember some official Alien timeline in one of the books mentioned “conflicting” in-universe reports about whether the alien in 3 was birthed from an ox or a dog. Maybe it’s been updated since, but at least as of a few years ago they were noncommittal about which cut of Alien 3 is canon.
I have been searching for a very long lore/behind the scenes video for alien or predator to get stoned to, and you provided two in one! Cant wait to binge this
1:10:44 imagine if instead dying, hank of bb was just teleported to fight in the future against xenomorphs
47:11 Oh an alien vs predator toy line I never heard of this growing up, weird I wonder why
47:16 ah...okay yeah that explains why.
I don't blame Arnie for refusing so may roles after many movies and scripts tried to pawn him off as sequel bait.
I came here looking for the indepth lore for Alien vs predator and it turned out to be a giant batch of gaggle-goonery.... The fact you put this together even with all this mental turmoil I think you deserve a good nap.
Capcoms Aliens vs Predator brawler is easily my favorite AVP crossover.
56:24
The Predator and AVP films are set in the same canon but both are separate from Alien films since Scott's prequels show that Davis is the one who created the Xenomorph and that doesn't really fit well with Predators hunting Xenomorphs for 100s of years before Prometheus happened
So unless time travel is introduced at some point, Blade Runner and Alien could still theoretically exist in the same universe
If i remember correctly, the Alien/Predator universe is canon to predator, but not Alien, right? Like... Alien is definitively its own thing, but also the Alien stuff is canon to predator, but not vice versa? That was how it was explained to me a while back
Exactly
Alien has their own continuity and Predator has it's own wich includes AVP
Alien doesn't includes AVP
I'll be honest, the only films in either franchise I consider canon are the first 2 in each, because after that, sh*t just goes off the rails.
@@occam7382 I agree but I'll consider the others as alternate timelines. Same with the terminator franchise
kickass video. youtube actually put this on while i was asleep and i woke up half way through. played it back from the beginning tho. subbed and browsing your backlog now.

Can we get a Doom iceberg
The best UA-camr is back again
YESSSSS WAKE UP BABE NEW AVP CONTENT JUST CAME OUT
fr though thanks this is a awesome topic, another good one may be hmmm DOOM and its mods and all that (columbine shooters, censorship, creepypasta, etc)
that's the best i got but obviously you're better at finding good topics than me, keep it up man.
Superb series and you've touched so many salient points very well. Thank you
Thank you for the effort you put into these icebergs!!! I absolutely love obscure knowledge on any topic I like!!!
How could predator possibly stand up to Wolverine? Predator would be cut to pieces.
An iceberg on two of my favourite horror franchises growing up? This is gonna be epic boys
At this point, I'll watch anything you make! You're so good at this idgaf about Aliens or Predator but you make it so fun to learn about! You can even make an iceberg about TREES and I'll still watch it! Keep up the good work.
The first predator takes place in Val Verde, it’s mentioned several times in Predator Hunting Grounds
Itbh, i wouldnt blame disney for shutting down the idea of a horror attraction based on the alien franchise. That sounds like something you would see at a Universal theme park
Alien 3 had a Newt autopsy scene? Those sick bastards.
Nice. Just have both franchises together
They need to do something with Predator. The lore is too good
Prey released like last year
It all makes sense if you take it that David was trying to re-create the creature that the Engineers were afraid of.
I'm always so excited to see you upload! ❤
It's a shame AvP: R was so bland. It had the coolest Predator (Wolf) in the entire franchise and the only time we see a Predalien on film. But the movie was full of issues. The human characters were laughably lame and I'm pretty sure everyone I know who has seen it has the same complaint. It's WAY too dark
Also, Should be noted that the Predator that Dutch lost a fight to was the Cleopatra Predator that is also featured in the Hunting Grounds game.
Oh my God. . . There's an absolutely AWFUL alternate reality where they got Steven Seagal as Harrigan instead of Danny Glover
Honestly, good On Fincher for not just letting Fox push him around and actually pushing back and being an annoyance to them. If you can't change the movie for the better like you want, at least piss off the people ruining it
The director of Alien Romulus wants to collaborate with the director of Prey to create a new Alien vs Predator film
You’re always getting me through work with these vids mate!💙
have had a rough past few days and could really use a distraction right now, thank you pigpen

Until Scott came in and f^cked the franchise up.
Way to go Scotty, way to go…
The Engineers created the black Xenomorphs to use as slaves.
Just spent 3 hours listening about two franchises I haven't watched a single movie of. Awesome video tho :v
He’s Back! Hell Ya!
Great episode Pigpen, there is also now an in game appearance and reference of the Predator in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty newest update 2.02.
Whoa
Channel is based as hell
Thank god they didn't let Joss Whedon do Alien 5, I can't stand the way he writes dialogue
What suit?
Gotta love putting these on while at work. Keeps the madness at bay.
Despite the colonial marines we did get, I actually really like it tbh
I'm gonna be "that guy" but Alien: Resurrection WAS my favorite for a long time. I've seen the original two so many times I find myself watching Prometheus/Covenant more often now.
Boy did we dodge a bullet with Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5. Dude is the Zack Snyder of sci-fi films.
@@CombatUnit621 I think I speak for most when I say I loved District 9, but even Blomkamp at his best is tonally at odds with the Alien franchise. He's all about metaphors on the state of the world, and Alien is far more internal with its metaphors.
