I rescued a stray cat who was starving when I found her. She eventually settled in and plumped up again. She managed to get outside one day and spent the entire time I was at work away from her food bowl. She never tried to get outside again. lol Sometimes they do recognize their mistake and decide it wasn’t worth it. lol
@oneminuteofmyday I adopted a TERRIFIED Siamese kitty from a local shelter. She spent the first month or so hiding. It was SO sad. Then, once she began bonding with me, I went outside to hang Halloween decorations and my door did not latch behind me. Next thing I knew, my kitty darted outside and stayed gone for over a week. I set-up a humane trap with a food bowl inside of it. I accidentally caught two possums, and a neighbor's cat😬 (hopefully the cat never snitched, because our neighbors would be PISSED). Then I moved the cage close enough that the Ring camera could help me see if she was coming around at all. My husband was convinced she was not alive anymore. I saw that she was getting in the cage, eating the food, and stealth enough to not trigger the trapdoor. So, I got the idea to cover the bottom of the cage with cardboard so she wouldn't be as aware of what to avoid when walking in, and added cat nip, spread everywhere. After SO LONG without her, the first night I used the cat nip, I caught her😭!!! That kitty was so grateful, she is now not only shy no longer, but is now attached at my ankles. She knew where she had it good😂!
That sweet, poor baby. He quickly learned why housecats have a lifespan 4 times longer than that of outdoor cats. Glad you helped him, that looked painful.
@@FreezyNinjaAlt-hj1mu I'll trust my own resources and life experience... Thanks. I've saved 43 cats since 2015, every stray cat in my neighborhood now has a wonderful home and are indoor only per the adoption contacts they signed. Once I save an animal I prefer not to risk it's life with the predators or vehicles in my area, and mostly humans since they are the most evil and careless of all (the of the cats I've saved had pellets in their bodies from being shot). Not to mention the fact that I've already treated them for worms, fleas, ticks, and ear mites. Not one of the many cats I have even goes near the door, they are far happier indoors. They've already experienced the harsh realities of nature and recognize the difference in their lives now. ANY professional will tell you indoor cats have longer lives and are FAR safer. I have no doubt my cats are the happiest they've ever been in their lives, and I love them far too much to risk putting them back out in the same environment I saved them from.
This reminds me of when our albino Pekinese was let out the door by the extended family. We lived in a heavily wooded area where the mountain lion had been seen a few times, bobcats, and coyotes on the regular. He was gone for a week! We thought he was dead for sure. But then the pound called and said, "You won't believe what Animal Control just brought us!" It was our dog!!! He looked almost exactly like this cat, but also covered in chiggers and ticks. Took hours to clean him back up, but it was good to see him!
@gabrielsfilms2086 Yes and no, she hated him so put him outside unattended despite our requests to never do that to our dog because he could only see shapes and shadows. However she felt horrible when the poor old guy got lost. Lesson learned by the family member, and my pekingese had the last laugh by living to be 13 despite the vet saying he would live about 7 or 8 years due to his medical conditions.
