The cat equivalent of all bark and no bite. Growled and grumbled the whole time, but just politely tried to put his paw up and in the way or move the offending objects away from him.
Thank you for making this cat a clean Bean! Best of luck to him and his new forever family. I fostered an overweight cat for a year and a half, and got her to her goal weight that the vet recommended. It was not easy! Her owner went back to feeding on demand, with exactly the results you’d expect. Broke my heart.
@Yesica1993 Mostly the portions and quality of food, but play is a great way to distract a kitty that wants a treat. Lots of pets, scritches, and toys. She was a Maine Coon, so walkies were also a thing.
I am new to this channel and I like all her videos but I LOVE this one and Bean is so adorable. I am so pleased that my senior old (17) cat Grumpypants who had a bad childhood and came to me seven years ago with little teeth left and regularly attacking & biting me does not need baths. She has however pooped herself on her way back from the Vet and a public bus ride home a couple of times! She has feline osteoarthritis and needs a monthly pain relief injection but she loves to be BRUSHED by me and I will keep on doing so now I have learned so much about keeping cats in good shape. Thank you Girl With The Dogs 2.
Bean was grumbly but all over a lovely kitty. No strikes, just a push away (enough) paw. I hope he feels better after and that his new family will support him to get back on track x
Bean has a poopy but because he is unable to reach it! 😮 I fostered a cat who was brought to the vet to be put to sleep by the owner, and returned from 3 other foster homes because she was pooping on her people’s bed. She was obese, her fur was also dirty and her but was inflamed because she couldn’t reach it and clean it. But she allowed me to wash it gently with a warm wash cloth and baby shampoo every day and put Penaten ointment on it. Penaten cream contains zinc, which took away the burn. But I was safe because she couldn’t reach it and lick it. In my care she never missed the litter box, lost slowly some weight and found a loving home after almost one year. Daily brushing helps to keep the fur clean and restores the cat’s dignity.
Such a sweet marshmallow of a cat. Informs you of his boundaries, but doesn't need to enforce them because Vanessa is so good at cat body language and behaviour. She'd stop a lot of things the moment he even raised a paw, and if they were necessary things she didn't use force, just patience. The things she did in this video might not seem very special, but having done years of other peoples' cats nail trims etc, she was so very gentle and respectful of his boundaries. At no point was he in distress. He was stressed and anxious but never to the point of fear or panic, and that's really important. Some people just treat every cat or dog the same and do the same actions with each -- Vanessa treats each animal as an individual and pays careful attention to their specific needs. It's so wonderful to watch. Lovely Bean came out looking SO soft and gorgeous. I hope he enjoys no longer being so itchy, and can sort out the paw-chewing and weight with his new wonderful family. Thank you for bringing him in to be groomed, and thank you Vanessa as always for doing so with such compassion, competence and good humour.
I am homeless I have been living in my car for a few years while being on a “waiting housing list” in Oklahoma- I say that to say this - I love animals and especially dogs- and I never got to have one as a child and now as a grown woman stuck In a vehicle I can’t have a dog now either- so this channel I found and I ❤love because it helps me get my animal fix and gets me thru some hard nights. Thx 🙏 and God Bless you all
I think you have leveled up the game of rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time by brushing and scratching Bean simultaneously. I hope his humans can keep you updated on his health journey, because I for one love this fluff ball and would love to know.
Bean is my new favorite cat groom! He was such a gentleman, even through all the growling. And the way he gave her his belly to dry...priceless. I hope Bean comes back. And I have high hopes he can slim down because it seems he wants to be active. Have a happy life, Bean!!
His confusion of if he liked the blowdryer or not was very entertaining to see. Since he liked to move around so much, I hope it makes it easier for him to drop some of his excess.
He's a smart kitty, he realized pretty quickly that it wasn't going to kill him, so he was mostly putting up with it. He didn't love it, and definitely would not rate it 5 stars, but he wasn't terrified. Just "Could you not?".
Hi! I volunteer at an SPCA in a middle-class suburban community in NY State, USA. Abuse and neglect of animals is, reprehensibly, universal. I work with cats. Our center doesn't have a groomer like you (so sad) and the matted cats are spot shaved. I do what I can with a brush with the ones who will let me, which is most, but (oh, no) not all! I have learned about stretching their skin, kinds of brushes and how best to use them from watching your videos. I don't get to bathe them, though there are more cats needing baths than one might think. We wind up with many obese kitties who can't reach their backs for grooming or had only eaten cheap food and developed greasy, dandruffy coats. Take heart, you do good work with animals (sentient souls) who need you! I love watching your videos, your care for your clients/patients is obvious. My best to you!
they didn't say that. they're talking about severe abuse. if you think that's something to make light of, you need to take some time to reflect on who you are as a person, because it's frankly repulsive. @@mohamadinlahimani3832
@@mohamadinlahimani3832 If you can't even do the bare minimium and brush your cat then you really should not have one... just take like 5 min out of your day to brush your cat.

These videos are how I ended up with a trouble bubble and a happy hoodie. Now I can keep my cats claws trimmed and brush them. Not to mention all of the little tricks I learned from watching her groom cats.
He reminds me so much of my boy 🥹 I adopted him at 25lbs and he’s gone down to around 18lbs in my care and he’s become so much happier and loves to clean himself now, but still purrs like crazy for the brush. They have very similar vibes, being little grumpsters when it comes to nails
Bean did so well for what may have been his first groom ever! I think he may have even liked getting his tummy blow dried a little. I hope he and his new family have a long and happy life together!
Losing weight is difficult for cats. One of my cats was pretty round when I got her. And then gained more weight because she was eating her own food and then stealing food from the other cat on top of that. Now she's on a strict diet, but little to no progress on losing weight in 3 years. Mainly due to the fact that she is a very very lazy kitty and doesn't like to do much other than chilling on her side.
Keeping your animal at the right weight is SUCH a hard thing for pet parents bc they just view it as they’re eating good. So many don’t understand the health and side affects overweight can cause on an animal. It’s also “funny” to them and most people.
@@AlbertaGeek She's already eating less than she supposed to for her weight. It's just a very slow process to not cause any health issues. And yes, she's being checked out by a vet at least twice a year.
Poor darling, how uncomfortable and undignified, not to be able to clean one's butt. Thank you for helping this sweet, formerly neglected boy! I bet he felt so much better after! ❤
@@uliwehner Letting a cat get _that_ obese is pure neglect. Unless Vanessa is right in suspecting some kind of underlying medical reason for him getting that big, that is. I hope his new owners help him, whatever the cause.
@@Pe-S what a mean thing to say. We adopted a cat who weighed 30 pound when we got him. he had never been outside, so we got him used to going on the patio, big fenced in yard. he was very athletic. after some time he dropped to 20 pounds stable weight. He could jump 6 feet in the air from a dead stop. he was never abused, just overweight for lack of exercise. at 20 pounds he was a very impressive cat. he scared the neighbors dogs by just sitting in the yard. as i said, a big cat can weigh 20+ pound and be healthy as a horse. Even at 30 pounds he was agile.
It is so refreshing to see how compassionately you treat the animals you groom! I wish people would treat each other like that more. There is a psychologist on UA-cam who said "You can really tell a lot about person based on the way they treat animals" and I would definitely agree.
@@louisehardenberg5840 Hating is one thing, mistreatment - another. I too am not particularly fond of pigeons. Does not mean I treat them poorly, so I think there isn't really anything wrong with liking some animals more than others.
Bean is one handsome unit. Methinks Bean doth protest a bit much; I noticed that, during the blow dry, he was like, "Yes, I'm growling at you, but here's my belly so you can dry it." Vanessa, your technique with cats is improving; I think you're really starting to "get" them.
He did pretty good, considering. I hope his new owners get the pet wipes. They are easy to use to clean the back end. Beans is lucky to have been adopted by a good owner.
He is so cute and beautiful. He will look amazing once he's hopefully back to a healthier weight. All the best for this sweet currently not so smoll bean.
I can’t explain why this is one of my favorite cat vids to date, but it def is. Watching Vanessa get more comfy grooming cats is so entertaining. Brave lady 💗
Bean does not want to be bubbled and made into an astronaut. He is afraid if he goes to space he will develop his own gravitational pull. I hope he likes his new home and his new family!
We had a 31 pound cat. Clyde was something else, but he also did not eat much at all and never stole anything else. That was years ago. More recently (2010) we got another and he was 17 pounds. He would eat and eat and make himself sick. Now he's down to 8-9 pounds, is 16 years old and on a strict diet.
Bean seems like the type of cat that is all growl and no bite. He's so gentle in pushing the grooming tools down to say "no stop" but I don't think he ever tried to swipe. We've had a few cats growl/hiss/scream anf never try to bite or scratch us. Always makes my mom super nervous but I just tend to laugh
What a good cat (as grouchy as he is).I’m glad he’s with a new family and I hope his new owners are taking as much effort as possible to get him down to a healthy weight.
People really underestimate the effect arthritis has on weight, especially in older animals (and people). It very quickly turns into a vicious cycle where it hurts them to move, which means they gain more weight, which puts more pressure on their joints, which causes more pain, so they move less, which means more weight gain, etc. Sometimes you have to treat that pain before they have any hope of losing that weight.
With animals it's just a matter of feeding an appropriate amount of calories (and finding the right medication, if it's a medical issue). With humans it's mostly the same thing, but it's much harder to get people to stick to a strict diet.
He's probably at a size where he'd be a good candidate for hydrotherapy if he'd tolerate the water, to take the pressure off his joints while exercising.
@@eden.nd. Wish I could afford that for my older cat. In my cat’s defense, at least, he most likely has some Maine Coon in his family tree somewhere because he’s always been tall, long, and heavily muscled. Massive head and giant paws, too. So his issues probably started with the arthritis as a result of just being large in general, like how larger dog breeds are more prone to joint problems regardless of their weight. I can tell my cat is trying to be active…he’s just a bit too stiff for it right now.
@@Narangarath Cutting calories doesn’t do much if they’re in too much pain to move. There’s a strict limit to how much you can cut calories for a cat before it becomes dangerous.
Very handsome boy. So glad someone adopted him, he's not going to like his new diet, though. "They're trying to starve me!" I have an American shorthair (Tortie) who cleans herself very well and doesnt shed much at all but I still use the brush on her because she absolutely loves it. When I brush her she takes her paw and rubs her own face like she's petting herself. Very cute.

with how much he moves, i wonder if his owners could harness train him and take him outside for walks. who knows, it might be the best way for him to get some exercise!
I have 100% lured my chunky girl cat around the yard on leash with food to make her walk around. Also used it to make her go up and down stairs, that really made her work out. Stairs might be difficult for this level of chonk though, mine is still under 12lbs.
@GorriaAltxor, it won't work because he's an adult he would just lie down. If he was a kitten and was trained, it would work. The Kitten Lady would say it wouldn't work unless he was trained at a young age. The Kitten Lady is an expert.
@@Shay-ik1xq oh it's difficult for sure and takes time, even just finding a harness they like is a pain. If you have an enclosed yard it's easier to practice. But it never hurts to try and he seems really limber for his weight, so it could work out.
Poor Mr. Bean! He's such a good boy, trying to tell you how he feels about the whole thing, without inflicting any wounds. He'll be glad to go home, I bet!
Sometimes, the really fat cats that get adopted were previously owned by people who had Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia where they would feed their cat too many times a day since they couldn't remember if they had already fed them.
It doesn't just happen in those circumstances. I lived for some years with a black Labrador who was an absolute mistress of the art of persuading anyone not around when she was fed that it had never happened. She got so clever at working out who was in or out that she got two meals on several occasions. Eventually we had to create a sign which read, in large block capitals, "THE DOG HAS BEEN FED". This was propped against the kettle by whoever did the feeding... but she would still try all her most pathetic wiles on whoever came in last.
@@judymiller5154 There were four of us living in, and working out of, that farmhouse; hence the sign. With people coming and going at different times every day it was easy to make mistakes. On one memorable occasion (at a very busy time of year) she managed to persuade three people to feed her one after the other in the space of a couple of hours!!!

That’s not a bean, that’s the whole bean bag chair
He could be a bean if it's the Bean in Chicago.
I know!
UNDERRATED
Lol. I heard that in Obi-wan's voice from Star Wars.
Bean was grumbly but all over a lovely kitty. No strikes, just a push away (enough) paw. I hope he feels better after and that his new family will support him to get back on track x
Bean has a poopy but because he is unable to reach it! 😮
I fostered a cat who was brought to the vet to be put to sleep by the owner, and returned from 3 other foster homes because she was pooping on her people’s bed.
Great job fostering that kitty! 😄
such a great parent you are thank you for loving her 🖤🩷🖤🩷

That poor boy! He has such a cute face and coat pattern. I'm so glad he's with a family who is caring for him properly.

Considering how big and orange he is I'd probably have called him Pumpkin lol

He just didn't want it in his face.
I’m so happy for Bean being groomed by you and can’t wait to see him looking even better as an update’m
You do such important work ❤ thank you for bringing a little bit more kindness to those around you
❤❤❤
oh nooo the cat gonna die bc i forgot to brush it
they didn't say that. they're talking about severe abuse. if you think that's something to make light of, you need to take some time to reflect on who you are as a person, because it's frankly repulsive. @@mohamadinlahimani3832
@@mohamadinlahimani3832 If you can't even do the bare minimium and brush your cat then you really should not have one... just take like 5 min out of your day to brush your cat.
Bean is a very tolerant cat for all his grousing. I loved how he never scratched but instead politely pawed the tools away (and I lol'd when he plonked down on the mike). I hope his new family, with time, love, and care, can get him from Melon Shaped to Lean Cat Shaped. Tfs and much love!! :)
The continuous mic adjusting to make sure his growls were picked up was so amusing and thank you

Bean's on to a better life. Bless the people who adopted him and to you for doing such a good job with him. He's such a handsome boy.
I hope he and his new family have a long and happy life together!
i appreciate that, despite how he was having absolutely none of that, he never scratched or bit once
How wide his eyes got when the dryer turned on! Poor guy. Overall he was so polite, gave lots of warnings but didn't follow through. What a good boy!

Girl: “chubby kitty”
Bean: what did this human just called meee??
Poor Bean. I hope his new family can give him the proper nutrition and exercise to get him to a healthy weight.
probably why they adopted him
Losing weight is difficult for cats.
@@Kligan As with all mammals, cutting calories will lose weight far more effectively than exercise will.
he does not look neglected. he is just not able to clean himself.
@@uliwehner sounds like a bunch of bs just like the fat acceptance delusions. no, being fat isn't healthy. and letting cats get that obese is abuse.
@floobix1 he looks healthy. Seemed agile enough. He will be just fine. Just needs a little exercise. I have faith
He is so handsome. I pray for his new owners and his health. So glad he is in a new home. Adorable putting his paw gently on the water nozzle.
13:27 the way he just pushes the hose away with his paw like no thank you omg
It is so refreshing to see how compassionately you treat the animals you groom! I wish people would treat each other like that more. There is a psychologist on UA-cam who said "You can really tell a lot about person based on the way they treat animals" and I would definitely agree.
@@milapetrova4730 My partner loves dogs but he hates pigeons 😅

OH LAWD!! HE COMIN!! I seriously hope his new family helps him lose the weight.

Yay! Bean has a home, and the owners are going to get him in good shape! Bean, you are in a good place, which is so nice to hear!
Bean does not want to be bubbled and made into an astronaut. He is afraid if he goes to space he will develop his own gravitational pull.
I hope he likes his new home and his new family!
Aw what a cute orange chonker. Hope his new family can slim him down. I thought he did very well through the cleaning process.
“a wide circumference … no offence” LOL
That actually sounded awesome, with the under-kitty mic LOL
I liked it too 😂
It really did!
Very funny to so clearly hear his grumbles.

"All of them."
You can actually feed them less, the weight causes so much issues.
I love how patient and gentle you are when he gets fussy.
Very cute.
He is so sweet for a wrecking ball of fur. So glad he was rescued ❤ and he has new owners that really care.

I hope Bean's family gets him on a diet, he'd probably feel so good if he shed some pounds. I can sympathize with Bean .... I need to shed some pounds myself :)
with how much he moves, i wonder if his owners could harness train him and take him outside for walks. who knows, it might be the best way for him to get some exercise!
I have 100% lured my chunky girl cat around the yard on leash with food to make her walk around. Also used it to make her go up and down stairs, that really made her work out. Stairs might be difficult for this level of chonk though, mine is still under 12lbs.
He'd literally be a "runner bean" 😆
You ever try to harness train a cat? I didn't think so.
What a unit! But, really fairly well behaved. I pray that he can shape up a bit, if only to be able to clean himself better!
Poor Mr. Bean! He's such a good boy, trying to tell you how he feels about the whole thing, without inflicting any wounds. He'll be glad to go home, I bet!
What a distinguished rotund gentleman! It's clear the family is going to take excellent care of Bean!
Sometimes, the really fat cats that get adopted were previously owned by people who had Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia where they would feed their cat too many times a day since they couldn't remember if they had already fed them.
That is so true
It doesn't just happen in those circumstances. I lived for some years with a black Labrador who was an absolute mistress of the art of persuading anyone not around when she was fed that it had never happened. She got so clever at working out who was in or out that she got two meals on several occasions. Eventually we had to create a sign which read, in large block capitals, "THE DOG HAS BEEN FED". This was propped against the kettle by whoever did the feeding... but she would still try all her most pathetic wiles on whoever came in last.
@@jennypratt5345 yes, we had a yellow lab who would tell one of us she hadn't been fed yet when she had...we always had to verify. 😅
Sheesh, I just posted that, not knowing you'd already said it! Ah, well; that's how it goes sometimes. 😄
