In this double bass drum lesson I’m giving exercises to increase the double bass drumming speed. It’s very important to block these exercises into strokes for tighter pedal playings and not to loose control while playing fast. You can also work for these exercises on the floor or on the drum pads. This video is not prepared for extreme speeds like 230+ bpms. It’s for to help the drummers which stucked around 130-140 bpm or can’t even use their slave foot strokes regularly at any tempo.
If you understand these exercises and practise consistently, you can play tight, powerful around 200 bpms without using triggers if you don’t like them. In this video I didn’t use drum triggers.
    Exercise 1 - 2 Strokes (RL)
    Exercise 2 - 3 Strokes (RLR)
    Exercise 3 - 4 Strokes (RLRL)
    Exercise 4 - 5 Strokes (RLRLR)
    Exercise 5 - 6 Strokes (RLRLRL)
    Exercise 6 - 7 Strokes (RLRLRLR)
    Exercise 7 - 8 Strokes (RLRLRLRL)
    Exercise 8 - 8x2 Strokes (RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL)
    Exercise 9 - 8x3 Strokes (RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL)
    Exercises 10 - 8x4 Strokes (RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL)
I you are a lefty drummer, you must do the exercises with opposite feet.

Thank you Erce! This exercises helped me a lot, I have improved my double bass speed and control incredibly. I've been struggling to play at 120 bpm and it was all flammy and sloppy when I tried to play it together with my hands. For today I'm getting close to 200 bpm and it's all controlled, no nervous tremblings and unnecessary flams. Practising this exercises is one hell of a workout though and it is amazing. I would say that if someone wants to significantly improve the double bass playing, this exercises is a musthave. I started out at 100 bpm and played all exercises one after another without stopping. After first time my feet felt like I've been jumping on a trampoline for a long time. :)
When I got used to it, the feelings when I play bass drum became natural. So if you spend your time with this exercises you will not regret.

California girl here. Thanks for the videos. I just want to say your videos (I've seen lesson 1 & 2 so far) are spot on and really addressing some of the problems I'm having with 2 bass drum pedals. To this point, I've only been using the double kick for embellishments. Now I am inspired to do more and I loved the way you created a very logical progression to build the skill. Aside from the lesson, dude, you are HOT in those shirts...just sayin'. But back to drums, keep rockin' and thanks! -LP

Thank you so much for this video. I realized I've been doing more of an endurance exercise to gain speed. Just frustrating and seeing no improvement. I've been stuck in 140-150bpm range for years. I've already learned guitar from scratch and nailed down songs in 160-175bpm range while still stuck on drums. I'm very optimistic this exercise will get me over the hump!

    • @ErceArslan
      @ErceArslan  5 років тому +3

Utku selamlar.

First exercise play in increasing pace (I'm not a speed demon, so let's say 100-150 bpm), then the second exercise the same, then the third (and so on) or can play all exercises at one pace and only after reaching the correct form move to a higher pace ?

2 May 2020 - I've been practicing almost every day. About 40mins on just these exercises. They are brilliant exercises to groove with.
Now I begin at 120bpm for 10-15mins and move up to 135bpm until I get bored/pissed off!
I have adjusted pedals and seat height. I can usually find the comfortable "flow" spot (hybrid between whole leg and ankle-up) but if I go faster than 135bpm my legs go into spasm mode and I lose control.
I can play along to Shortest Straw by Metallica with decent power.
I've got a lot of work to do to reach 200!!

I think I'm regressing. I can just finish the exercises at 125bpm with decent power.
When I push it up to 130bpm I can make it until the 7-stroke exercises then my legs won't respond to my brain anymore. Legs don't feel tired or anything. They just turn into spasms!! Really frustrating.
      Is this a mental barrier?

@@conorm2524 Can you complete 2-3 sets of the exercise up to 32x notes at 125bpm? If so I might step it up to 127bpm or something if you are having trouble at 130bpm. I was stepping up about 2.5bpm every other week. I also recommend doing three tempos each exercise like the video. Not sure if that's what Erce intended or not. In your case you could do 90, 110, then 125-130bpm at 2x, three tempos at 2x double snare, same at 3x, etc. It seems to really help starting slow each exercise right before increasing tempo. See if that helps...

I keep having a problem. I get up to 6 beats in a row at about 175 or 180 bpm but it's not maintaining it thats the problem. It's starting the beat. When I try and start it I often fail to get enough momentum the bring the beater back fully
