It is cool that you include James Payne as a swivel master! It is nice to see that not everything has to be a competition! I greatly enjoy both of your videos and have learned so much from them. Thank you!
Great video, I’ve been using the heel toe for a while now. No one ever taught me heel to o just mimicked what I was doing on my right foot for fast 16th note hits and that’s how that happened years ago. I am currently working on the raised heel ankle technique which is challenging to control but every day I see progress in control and with control comes speed. I never even knew about several of these other techniques.
Nice covering all the techniques. Just a clarification though on Wanja (if it hasn't already been pointed out) - He isn't doing RR LL like the other heel toe guys, he is alternating RLRL (Right heel, Left heel, Right toe, Left toe).
Metal drummers have amazing technique and speed. It’s a form of drumming with it’s own category. I would like to play more heel up (single pedal) but it creates a balance problem. I feel like I want to fall forward unless I have my left foot planted on the hi hat. Any tips and methods for balance control would be appreciated. Excellent video, well explained.
@@ErceArslan hi, really good video, but I would like to practice heel toe technique, it s not easy because we dont know if the springs pedals must be very tight or loose, and I dont have the first stroke with the heel, it s more the middle of the foot than the heel, is it normal? Thank you for yor help. It s strange as movement ! Have you got a leg movement with this technique ?
@@pelvismc thank you! I am not a master of this technique so it would be much better if you ask this question to the guys doing this pricesly on the video. They can help you🤘🏼
Easiest way to improve speed with the flat foot is with ankle weights. Here’s how it works. Find where your limit is with flat foot (for example, 130 bpm) and then subtract 30 bpm. Now strap some ankle weights on and play at your new bpm for 24 bars. After that, take a 30 minute break, then do the same but up the click by 10. Repeat this until you can play at your original limit while wearing the ankle weights for 24 bars. After that, take the weights off, and now you’ll be able to play at your former limit with ease.
I find heel toe frustratingly impossible on regular sized foot pedals. The long pedals I can nail it all day in my sleep. Get on my normal set of dw3000 and I can't do it if I had to
So where should you adjust your drum seat?... I have very long legs... so I tend to adjust it fairly high... but is there a rule or something? Like where should your knees go? Above o below your weist height?
Hey, I have a Ludwig double pedal, and its right pedal is fine, but the left pedal is very sluggish (hope that's the right word). I have to kick it very hard to get a sound. I think the problem is in the articulations (again a word I had to translate from Google, hope it's right). I tried to oil it but it didn't help anything. Should I just buy a better double kick like that Tama Speed Cobra? I'd appreciate any tips. Btw this is the best double bass drum tutorial series ever! PS. Jaska Raatikainen mainittu torilla tavataan ja R.I.P. Children Of Bodom.
This problem occurs in low quality twin pedals. Even the high quality ones have almost always lag because of the friction force in the connection unit, but it doesn't effect playing that much. You can check out my 19th lesson for further information.
Hey erce! Thanks for the detailed information! But i have to say it is not easy to find your way with that many techniques! Which techniques do you use/recommend for which tempo? I am struggling to get just past 120 bpm and i am trying to build up speed with heel up ankle technique
You are welcome:) For around these tempos I recommend you to use leg motion mainly (like around 100-150 bpm) Of course continue working with heel up ankle motion technique too in these tempos as an exercise but you will feel more comfortable with leg motion
I play with heel up ankle motion using calves. But I feel it's very hard to get my left foot into that technique. It's hard to start out at pretty much all tempos. I can sometimes get a few consistent 8th note hits in with the left at around 190-210bpm but it's not that consistent and sometimes the beater doesn't go all the way. Got any tips on how to get my left foot to play it properly?
Hello, sorry for late answer. Slave foot is all of our problem:( you can do the main exercises for the left foot which I have explained on my first tutorial video of this serie. I will make a separate tutorial video for this topic too.
Erce I'm loving this series. I actually noticed that I tend to use more hip flexor with my left foot while my right foot is almost exclusively ankle. Would you say this is a bad thing? Would it make sense to learn to use the same muscle groups in both legs?
Thank you! It's a song from my band Ronnin's upcoming album. Album is totally finished but not released yet. Now we are working on video clips to deal with a record label and publish. Thanks for the interest:)🤘🏼🙏🏼
So funny how you mention how it’s unnatural feeling (heel toe) while I have the heel toe down pretty much up to like 220 plus bpm but I want to learn the swivel and it’s impossible for my feet to do that motion.
@@ErceArslan Yes agreed. The main reason I want to learn either ankle motion or swivel is because there’s such a stigma behind the heel toe technique. I do play loud doubles but still get so much shit from other people who think it’s cheating in a way lol
@@25stealthshooter nothing is cheating.. it's ridiculous:) you can even stroke weaker on fast tempos but you are hitting every single note. And it doesn't matter how and with which part of your body you hit it.. Everybody's musicality, technique, point of view is different for music. Don't listen haters🤘
I tryhard heel up technique but my legs are tired when i raise them from the pedals and then it is all about the pain while i try to play it. What is the problem?
Some kick drum heads have this from their manufacturers. In this video i use remo powersonic. But they are down and kinda off.. and i have totally forgot about them😄 you can check out some product demo videos on youtube about it. And yes, they are for dampening purposes but not so effective.
You have to know the exact microphones and where to exactly put them for your kick drum. Needs lots of testing.. Also preamps, cables, AD/DA, compression and EQ settings very important.
@@ErceArslan Is there any way to get it to sound like that just as the drum itself without any microphones? I also made this comment expecting to be ignored and i literally have a thousand other questions, could i hit you up on say instagram?
