I really like the way you reiterate to plan everything and mark measurements; that’s probably got to be the take home point. Having done several diy jobs that’s the number one point to always bear in mind, it ensures the job gets done smoothly and enjoyably.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge mate, as someone relatively new to plumbing I have picked up some really useful tips from you. One thing I do when testing sink waste for leaks is start with a small amount of water ran into sink with plug in the closed position, then open plug/pop up waste to check for leaks before giving it a large amount of water to deal with, this way if I have a leak from waste I don’t have a large amount of water on floor/to get rid of, hopefully that makes sense and is of use to someone.
I'm Laughing and learning a lot thanks James this knowledge is indespensible to someone who's just starting to do my own full bathroom fits after watching as a Labourer..Nice One
I don't know anything about plumbing but for me, your videos are like those ASMR videos of women eating watermelon. So hypnotising and relaxing. Great job, James!
The way we put plumbers putty in the US is put it at the very top piece of the drain in the sink then have a rubber gasket at the bottom of the basin so the over flow doesn't leak. Plumbing seems very different in the UK from how we do things in the US. Love your vids. Keep up the good work
I get why you do that because porcelain sinks can be out of shape naturally from when they are made and dried in the oven and the sink waist dosn't always sit flat ! 👍🇬🇧
I love watching this and knowing the Customer wouldn’t be able to do this straight off the cuff and show how easy this looks lol. I always use plumbers mate on basin wastes and use a washer b4 the nut to tighten up onto the mate.
I’m not sure exactly how this happens, but after years of watching your videos, I still laugh every single time you say “Hold Tight”. I wait in anticipation for it at the start of every video. Now that’s a catchphrase!
Hi plumber parts.. really enjoy the videos and find them really helpful.. any chance of doing a video on pressure testing and joist notching.. cheers thanks
I put 6 wraps of ptfe tape over the trap rubber it protects it from getting cuts in it and reduces leaks .i also use white silicone to build the basin up and tthe top waste washer i throw it away as ut generally pops out at the last minutes and ruins everything.
Hi. I followed your video to fit new vanity in bathroom and it was a great help, many thanks. Really good. However, one thing I found was I had to cut sink waste to run a new piece and the inside of pipe was lined in a horrible gunky slime(biofilm?). This went all way down pipe further than I could reach to clean. Could you recommend a cleaner to use to clean inside waste pipes? Thanks.
Very nice. I was a bit worried about installing a standard sink unit in a corner but if you can do it it must be OK. Is thereproblem with the RH handle hitting the wall?
These tap pipes will get rust sometime at 10:19, in that case, do I have to remove the entire vanity. How will the plumber put his head inside to unscrew and fit new pipes?
first time this week putting in vanity unit feel a lot better after watching james with some fantastic tips will be keeping the video on while fitting fingers crossed?
I tend to silicon the basin unit at the front as water can come down onto the vanity unit. If it isn't well made then it will expand and look rubbish. Get some chrome pipe or chrome covers on the tails for the towel warmer Jimbo.
Great Video James. My partner has asked me to replace our peddle stool sink with a vanity type sink. I'm not plumber but is it something I can do myself? Peter
Saw you put a washer of some kind just before you fitted the nut. Seemed to go in between the plumbers mate and the nut? What was it? Just a plastic washer you found, or something else??
Just looking ourselves for a wall mounted vanity unit with drawers and has to be a dark colour. What would you recommend and suggest? Tidy videos by the way!
Floating vanity cabinets - assuming I can't chase the masonry behind it, what's a good way to hide the water pipes coming up from the floor would you suggest? Boxing it in or use chrome tails and leave exposed? (waste pipe goes out the wall)
I’m making a vanity unit from scratch with a solid oak top under a square deck mounted ceramic basin, What adhesive should I use to secure the basin to the worktop please?
If this unit was going onto a newly tiled wall, would you do the tiling first, then fix the vanity unit to the tiled wall? Or do you fix the vanity first then tile around it?
Why don’t you connected flexi tap connector on top of isolation valve thread instead of connecting to compression straight coupling thread. Will it make no different?
im fitting a vanity unit, but the water pipes are to far from the wall (coming out of the ground) how do i move the pipes so the unit fits flush to the wall ?
What is the tap called and where can I buy this from, and the vanity unit? Is there a toilet and unit with same colour to buy as well James? HOLD TIGHT
Clicked on links for the items installed and yep there they are.... but am I being a bit thick cos there's no prices and no where to buy? So I registered and no change! Woss appnin please?
Nice vid but if you don't silicone the top of the waste and just use the plumbers mait underneath, the basin can drain with the plug in as the water runs between the basin and waste. Especially if the waste hole isn't quite round
Great video as usual. Not a criticism but a few things that I would have done differently would be:- Use swept elbows on the waste fittings - less likely to get blocked in the future. Use caulk rather than silicone down the sides of the unit - easier if you / customer wants to change colour of bathroom in the future. Got a basin that fitted flush with the top of the unit - as you’ve got the unit tight in the corner you’re unable to have the small overhang on both sides which makes the basin off center to the left - some of our customers would definitely notice that! Level the unit both ways - you may have done that but it wasn’t mentioned. Anyway, great install just thought I’d give my take on it for what it’s worth.
great advice. i also noticed the basin wasn't centered either and it would forever bug me. i get it though, it would then mean the vanity would have had a small gap on the RHS.
The trouble with flexis is they all have a tiny bore at the connector ends. My bathroom was designed with a 22mm pipe from the hot water cylinder, the new combi boiler has a 15mm output 😔 but the flexi hose to the hot tap fitted a decade ago? Less than 10mm bore through the brass 😫
Didn't mention levelling the unit that's why the doors look crooked also you should have marked the skirting board using the unit you wouldn't have ended up with a big gap
How do you suggest marking the skirting with the unit? .....you'll only manage that if there was only one board to cut because the other will push the unit over when offered in place & you would end up with a big gap on both sides but I'm sure everyone appreciates your constructive criticism!!
You could lift the unit above the skirting to mark for cutting but some basins overhang the the unit on each side so always check check and check again. Whata mistaka ta maker.

Just followed your tips to install a vanity unit , went like a dream ….. keep up the content ….. thanks
Awesome ! Ideal Standard pre-fill the flexies with water so no air comes out. Love you James . Profiles are awesome too.
Haha! You got me! 😂😜😂
I was waiting for the fluxy water and swarf combo 😉👍

Thank you for showing the installation.dow corning is the best silicone which prevents mould and fungus.great video
great info about pre planning. it is a bit hit and miss otherwise when you don't have the vanity to begin with!
Im collecting my new vanity unit basin tomorrow, perfect!
well you better get on with installing it rather than sitting on your backside watching the live podcast
Haha! ❤️
Well the place doesnt open until 10am so this video will be perfect timing!
God I hope it helps!
Yes, was great help, got it fitted today :D

Great video as always. Not a fan of the tiling though, I think the single cut that was necessary would look better centred in line with the tap.
My only criticism ....Agreed!
I love watching this and knowing the Customer wouldn’t be able to do this straight off the cuff and show how easy this looks lol. I always use plumbers mate on basin wastes and use a washer b4 the nut to tighten up onto the mate.
Love it... works perfectly for the space available.
I'm gutting a house at the mo with flexies and units cut up at the back all over the place..
I’m not sure exactly how this happens, but after years of watching your videos, I still laugh every single time you say “Hold Tight”. I wait in anticipation for it at the start of every video. Now that’s a catchphrase!
That's so bloody good. Good job James!
You present really well....A good style.
I always use a box spanner to tighten the waste, as I find that pump pliers can cut into the plastic nut.
How would you install a vanity when you have exposed pipes? You are the man to ask.
Hi plumber parts.. really enjoy the videos and find them really helpful.. any chance of doing a video on pressure testing and joist notching.. cheers thanks
Another fantastic video and professional finish James 👍 love all of your comments and tips pal! Chuffing fantastic 👍👊

Total non plumber diy comment here... how did you figure out the hot and cold pipes?

id love to see a normal standing sink be transformed into a vanity . as this is what im looking to do
These tap pipes will get rust sometime at 10:19, in that case, do I have to remove the entire vanity. How will the plumber put his head inside to unscrew and fit new pipes?

Excellent matey, hopefully you've saved me a lot of unnecessary work.

Looking forward to this one, I'm on with refurbing my house at the mo and guess what I'm doing this weekend! HOLD TIGHT!!!
I really enjoyed that, nice one Jimbo. I was even Holding....Tight.
Saw you put a washer of some kind just before you fitted the nut. Seemed to go in between the plumbers mate and the nut? What was it? Just a plastic washer you found, or something else??
Top class as always!
Love the “my darling wife” comment. The face you pull cracks me up James! 😂
Is there any way of getting past the waste elbow? We have a 60 year old house that's never been modernized.
Looks ideal James 😜
What clear gripper did you use to stick sink to unit ?
Just looking ourselves for a wall mounted vanity unit with drawers and has to be a dark colour. What would you recommend and suggest? Tidy videos by the way!

Hi Great job, Did you bring some half inch putty to fill the skirting board 🤣
Do you use jointing compound on all compression fittings... asking for a friend.. another exceptional video by the way.. cheers pal
I’m making a vanity unit from scratch with a solid oak top under a square deck mounted ceramic basin,
What adhesive should I use to secure the basin to the worktop please?
Another great training video. Thank you, I’m ready for my install this weekend.
If this unit was going onto a newly tiled wall, would you do the tiling first, then fix the vanity unit to the tiled wall? Or do you fix the vanity first then tile around it?
If the whole wall is being tiled, then I'd tile first, then fix the unit...
@@plumberparts thank you mate, your videos are brilliant
No worries mate!
When you say skilsaw or cutter - what is the name of the DeWalt tool you're using there? Is it just a multi tool? Not sure what I'm searching for.
DeWalt DWE315. This is the one I use and its so handy. Its got a quick release blade holder so no messing around with Allen keys.
@@alanrother8477 Thank you, I'll have a look 👍
@@alanrother8477 That's the one!
Why don’t you connected flexi tap connector on top of isolation valve thread instead of connecting to compression straight coupling thread. Will it make no different?
James,
What’s your thoughts on LSX? My mentor doesn’t use plumbers mait he uses Fernox.
Niiiiice. Can you do a video on fitting a sink and pan combined vanity unit. 👍👍
great work James enjoy the video.
Thanks dude!
Great video, I’m just not convinced on these flexi hoses.
When you uncap the hot water pipe how do you stop it gushing water?
I didn’t think you could still buy plumbers mait. Do you still use hemp and Boss white on threads?
Isolation valve to flexible connector, is that just a coupler? why not use a flat faced isolation valve? DIYer here so looking for feedback please :)
*very good materials*
im fitting a vanity unit, but the water pipes are to far from the wall (coming out of the ground) how do i move the pipes so the unit fits flush to the wall ?
Hi, which silicone do you ues to seal around and where do you buy that.thanks
Do you seal around the cabinet
Another quality vid bud 👍🏻
What is the tap called and where can I buy this from, and the vanity unit? Is there a toilet and unit with same colour to buy as well James? HOLD TIGHT
Great video! Is there an overflow connection?
So no silicone on the sink side of the waste? I don't have plumbers mate so can I just use silicone?
Great video yet again keep them coming!!
Clicked on links for the items installed and yep there they are.... but am I being a bit thick cos there's no prices and no where to buy? So I registered and no change! Woss appnin please?
Nicely position bin to hide the over cut skirting 😀
Another awesome video🙌
allways very helpfull
how can i move the outside mains valve inside for ease of use.?
Nice vid but if you don't silicone the top of the waste and just use the plumbers mait underneath, the basin can drain with the plug in as the water runs between the basin and waste. Especially if the waste hole isn't quite round
I would use plumbers mate top & bottom personally.
Hi buddy.
What are those brass valves called you installed just above the isolation valves for the taps tails??
M.i. Couplers other wise known as male irons.
Great video as usual.
Not a criticism but a few things that I would have done differently would be:-
Use swept elbows on the waste fittings - less likely to get blocked in the future.

Do we need non reverse check valves on the hot and cold
Please advise
👍🏻you make it look 👀 easy
Great video
So we're the hot and cold the right way around in the end?
You're the man
Ha! Thanks.
On my kitchen and basin I bought Grohe mixers. Don’t want to have to change it cos I went cheap.
thanks james
No worries Kev!
I put tape on the screwdriver or use a electrical insulated one so it dont mark the waste
Why do you use an s trap? Would it not be better to use a bottle trap to stop the potential gurgling after the taps off.
I’m sure he used P adjustable trap.
If you use plumbers mate between waste and basin then silicone under neath where back nut touches underside of basin will never leak
Best of both worlds could be the answer to this ongoing debate.
I have a question for the plumbers here. How much would you charge to do something like this? Excluding the cost of the unit itself
Probs about £200 to £250
@@plumberparts thank you sir
Funny guy love the videos....the face talking bout ya Mrs changing her mind I know that 1 lol
Are you from Peterborough way??
Basin mate rubber washers are great.
Renovating my whole house and didn’t realise how *easy* this was. I’m installing a sink & toilet combi vanity - my man is useless! 🤣 Wish me luck guys
Nothing wrong with the correct use of flexi! It makes a lot of sense on baths, especially side tap baths where its up against the wall.
Hands up who really believes James got a real sparky in??? 🤔
My mate Miggi is so unreliable...😬
plumberparts the only time a sparky pops round is when you are at work
14:48 great tip. Didn’t know that. Nice install
Thanks!
what are the other wires in the unit for?
Underfloor heating and also a Mirror feed.
Absolute geezer.
very entertaining you see everything clearly watching with a large screen on oculus go vr

Lee Sanders id love to see you, on your own, lift a basin unit up above the skirting whilst bending down and marking the skirting
i only liked because i saw the small print ;)
