Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лип 2024
- Join Trev for a good day's hiking on Dartmoor, as he follows the River Tavy up the beautiful Tavy Cleave, tackles the marshy land beside the Rattlebrook and then takes in the surrounding tors, Nat Tor, Ger Tor, Chat Tor, Sharp Tor and Hare Tor, and even witnessed some wild swimming.... at this time of the year!!!
Summit or Nothing has been going for nearly 7 years now, and have enjoyed hiking, backpacking and wild camping on UA-cam, sharing with you every landscape explored, every mountain scaled, and every lesson learnt (with every mistake thrown in for good measure, too).

The godfather 🤙
That's the one
Ear worm....the theme from 'The Godfather'? Great video Trev! ;)
That's the one Steve!
There is something very therapeutic and inspiring about watching Trev out on Dartmoor. As an avid Dartmoor walker and wild camper myself I still learn so much about the area from watching these. Also when I can’t get out and about they are my go to videos for my Dartmoor fix!
Cheers Rod. Glad that you wnjoy them. Thanks for watching!
'Sexy Shots!' 🤣
...Great vid, Doe tor looked abit more inviting than the last time.
Another camp at Fur Tor 😎👍
Cheers Chris. Must say i enjoyed this one a lot! Would love to get out to Fur for a camp this year. Watch this space!
Great video and stunning location, one of the best on Dartmoor! Those Tors on the Tavy Cleave ridge are.....Tavy Cleave North-East Tor(lower), Tavy Cleave North-East Tor(higher), Tavy Cleave North Tor, Sharp mTor(Tavy Cleave) and Tavy Cleave South Tor.............proper mouthful! I walked them a few weeks ago, really epic!
Cheers very much for the info.
Once again m8 cracking view's 👌 and a superb video 📹 coming down that way April can't wait 😀
Awesome Peter, have a great time. Thanks for watching!
Whether it's a camp or a walk I have been enjoying SoN content since the beginning of the pandemic. My hopes are to get to the UK this year and possibly take a walk on Dartmoor myself.
Another great video Trev. What are those masts on ger tor and heir tor?
Was having a similar thought myself, although I'd rather visit Scotland first
Awesome matty! Hope you manage to get here. All the best!
Hi ya Paul, they are flag poles, for the red flags to go up during military exercises
Superb.
A Summit or Nothing " Never Mind the Tussocks" tour. The landscape reminds me of Stonesdale (just north of Keld on the North Yorkshire Moors, where I did a week of geological surveying). You have to admire the efforts of those who built that leat.
As ever, all the best
Yea those leats are a great bit of engineering. Cheers for watching, Phil!
A cracking video Trev in some stunning scenery. Thank you for your time in putting this together to share. 🙏
No worries Sean, glad that you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed this one myself.
Bonjourno Trev, cracking video mate, absolutely loved it. Beautiful shots and scenery, you just cannot beat Dartmoor! Thought those tors on the edge of the cleave are called Tavy Cleave Tors 🤔? You’ll have to pack your speedos next time and take a dip😂! Great to see you out and about, cheers Pete👍
Hi ya Pete. Thanks for watching. Really enjoyed getting back out for this.
Godfather tune, classic
Thats the one!
Spot on.
Cheers
Nice one! You're working 'with' Dartmoor now and getting more of a story to tell.
Lovely wander through the Tors Trev, perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!
You've done a sterling job at capturing this area of Dartmoor - one of my favourites - in such great light. Methinks when you visit Fur Tor you approach from Little Kneeset. It's a killer!
That would be a tough route, yikes!
Cheers Max. I was thinking of taking in fur tor from Okey side and then heading over to Merrivale or two bridges from there and make it a two day affair. Cheers mate
i walked around these places today and can confirm its quite boggy near the tavy cleve. great videos!
Another great video Trev. The new camera certainly makes a noticeable difference to the video quality. Don’t bloody drop it when you’re scrambling about on the moor!!
Cheers Darren. Glad that you enjoyed it, and really happy with the new camera. Take care mate see you at Portland!
The sceneries are glorious! What a lovely and a beautiful place friend. You presented this so professionally, overall quality is amazing!
Thanks very much!
Awesome walk Trev with great scenery, keep them coming ,hopefully you've scoped out a few spots for some wildcamps . Stay safe 👍
Cheers Neil. More adventures to come!
Fantastic, thank you Trev. What lovely views.
Thanks Michaela. Glad that you enjoyed it, I know I did.
A good walk there, Trev. Won't expect to see you taking up wild winter swimming this year then! 😄 Hope you're doing well and all the best.
Hahah... I don't even do summer swimming lol. Cheers Olly. Hope that you're well.
Hiya Trev, Hope your well mate. Interesting pieces on Countryfile tonight (12/3/23) that covers your stomping ground. All the best.
I miss the famous shout at the top of each tor, Summit Or Nothing!
Yea, the older and maybe wiser that I get, the less I feel comfortable shouting my head off on a peaceful day lol
I'm a new subscriber and I am enjoying the current uploads as well as the back catalogue. I have Long Covid so it is difficult for me to get out onto the Moor to the places that you have visited and so I'm incredibly grateful that you are able to show me around. You have inspired me to visit and I've made it up to Sourton Tors. Next step is a tent and backpack. Thanks for putting in the miles and smiles for us. All the reviews are very useful too and much appreciated.
Awesome. Really glad to help encourage others to enjoy the moor. Cheers
Sensational as always 👏🍺
Cheers mate
my favourite walk on Dartmoor and preffered route to Fur Tor enjoy
Cheers Steve
At 5:50 you can see on the right there is a section of flat stone, which is where I cooked noodles and brewed coffee after a long hike almost identical to yours only in reverse. Great video Trev, brings back a lot of fond memories. 👍
That's great Tommy! It's a great area to visit! Thanks for watching!
Hi Trev
I'm the chap you met on the way. ( Looks like I was right about it being a bit boggy, I have seen it worse! ) captured the walk really well. I have done it myself. Has a little chuckle I always end up on the wrong side of the leet then begining 😂. Glad I got my photography and filming in early before the wild swimmers turned up. Never seen it so busy.
You have yourself a new subscriber. Hope to pick a few locations on the moor I've not been that I can turn me camera lenses on.
Brian,
Hi Brian, ya it certainly got busy up there, you were lucky to have it all to yourself. Was nice meeting you! Subbed you back!
Epic scenery and your new camera and storytelling skills really set the whole thing off spectacularly
Thanks Tom. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great vid Trev. Some fab scenery there.. plus your mountain-goat traversing ! Thoroughly enjoyed. (Sexy shots by the rocks though ???😁) Br, Gaz.
Hahah.... cheersGaz! Thanks for watching!
Just done Tavy Cleve from Sourton tors and then a wild camp at Fur tor and back via great links - some challenging walking along the edges there at times!
Thanks Trev!
Thank you Matthew
Brilliant
Great video Trev, As always, are you going to be taking up wild swimming ha ha 👍👍👍
Only wild swimming I do is in the sea in summer, armed with a body board!
Great video Trev. Makes me want to do the same walk when the weather warms up.
I don't blame you, Nick. You'll enjoy it!
Nice as always! Plotting the route now.....maybe part of a longer summer tab and wild camp I hope, fingies crossed!
Cheers, Chris! I do often plot the routes beforehand, most of them I'm familiar with, this one could have gone either way lol. Will get out for a camp before too long. I've not been in any rush of late, I must admit.
Beautiful Dartmoor, must revisit this year.
You definitely should!
Nice1 Trev enjoyed that moor tour! Big thanks for taking us along and it’s ace to see ya lookin chipper pal. I got the VIK1 recently on the strength of your vids despite other analysis of it being a condensation trap. I’ve been out a couple of times in it this February and am enjoying it. Cheers man!
Ah thats great! I certainly love mine. Got the green Vik 2 on the way too. Cheers for watching!
Another great video Trev, you are so lucky to have that on your doorstep, any idea how many tor's you have camped on? 👍
Several no doubt Haha. I shall have to tot them up one day. Thanks for watching!
Wonderful walk mate 😊
Thank you 👍
Nice one, Trev. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you for watching!
Lovely hike Trev, looked like good terrain for winter too 😊
Thanks Rachel. Yep, I was surprised how relatively dry it was underfoot. You never quite know what to expect with Dartmoor
Great one Trevor, really enjoyed that.
Cheers Steve! Me too!
great video Trev, looks like you have your mojo back. Good use of Both the cameras and a great edit too.
Thanks very much and yep, I really enjoyed this one
Beautiful views 😍 I was out on Dartmoor the same day, up at Great Links Tor
Was a superb day to be out on the moors. Hope tou enjoyed it!
Nice video 😃👍 makes me want to head down again!
Cheers Alan. This was a great day for filming on Dartmoor, and I really enjoyed tring back out again. Thanks for watching!
Great video Trev! The Tavy cleave is brilliant same with chat tor and sharp tor which have always been some of my favourites. Have you been down to the old mine workings just below sharp tor? The buildings are still there.
Keep up the great work. Always look forward to a new summit or nothing video
No I don't think I have. Shall have to have a look there next time I walk this area! Thanks for watching!
Excellent stuff Trev 👏🙂
Is The Godfather theme you're whistling?
That's it, Ian!
16:50 Bog hopping!
Okay the people swimming in the freezing water, that was pretty hardcore. What caused all these stacks of rocks that look like pancakes or biscuits? Was a long watch, enjoyed travelling along, thanks!
As I understand it:
Dartmoor, like a lot of the SW, was pushed up by a gigantic batholith more than 300 million years ago (an upwelling of magma that mostly failed to break through the surface but pushed the land on top up out of the sea).
On Dartmoor the magma failed to break through and form volcanoes, instead it cooled to form columns of granite underground.
Over the course of ~280 million years the overlying 2-3km of softer sandstone and shale eroded away leaving the plugs of granite behind. As the pressure and weight of the eroded rock eased the granite plugs expanded, leading to the horizontal cracks almost like springs with the weight removed.
These cracks were then widened by the hot and humid weather (at the time the land was close to the equator) and acids from rotting plants around 60-30 million years ago.
The continent then drifted northwards over the next 30 million years, exposing it to further erosion during last Ice Ages (2 million - 10,000 years ago).
@@chrism7395 Hey great reply thanks! :D
Nice walk just maybe because I enjoy water, sea, rivers, lakes, canals not bogs though 😂 👍
Hahaha.... yea, one water source I don't care for much either lol
Oh this had some awesome views. Did you whistle something from the movie The Godfather 1? 😁
Yea they were great views, along here Torunn! And yep... the theme from the Godfather is correct!
Hello Trev, hows Nate your mate, doing? Looking forward to some camps with you guys . Cheers from British Columbia, Can.
He's been pretty busy, Peter, but we are meeting up in a couple if weeks for the Outdoor Expo, sure we will plan a trip or two during the road trip! Thanks for watching!
2:37 That's Sharp Tor, one of the Tavy Cleave Tors lad, didn't you go there a while back for a windy camp?
(I call it Sharp Tor 7, because there's 9 tors on Dartmoor called Sharp Tor :D )
If you and Max P. wanna go over to Fur Tor 1 sometime I'm game to join, I don't live that far from Lane End.
I'd be very happy to guide you there.
Did you know that the Tavy is England's fastest flowing river, or so I've heard.
That's an interesting fact, David..... if it is true. Cheers for sharing!
Whistling the Godfather theme?
You got it!
Whenever u go to capture the waterborn nature.. its alwys the same... remember u thought u saw seals on a coast walk... and it was "bloody humans!" (joking) Atb they were nutters lol
Haha... yea, its certainly way too popular a pastime for this season!! Brrrr!!!
Good video trev, I was wandering, what is the name of the tune in the background music. It starts at 17.20. It reminds me of a kids programme I used to watch when I was a kid.
Its incy wincy spider. My comedy theme lol
Proper job enjoyed that, you didn't tell us about the "Leat" ( I know's what it is ) next time could you say what it is, cheers top man
Yea, I have mentioned them in the past. Cheers for watching!
Did you get back to Fur Tor in 2023?
not yet - 2023 has been a SoN write off.... bringing it back now though!
If you are swimming with a hat on its far too cold 🥶
Hahah! I bet that hat made all the difference lol
Good video trev as ever ! Fantastic views , u must know the area as well as anybody ! Your lucky having the moors on your doorstep!
Getting to know it more each time I visit. Some areas I don't even need to get the map out anymore.
