  • After completing my +450m North-West Tors Tour, I had two more days on Dartmoor before heading home.
Starting at Steng-a-tor, I headed down into the West Okement River valley. I crossed the river at Sandy Ford before the steep climb up to Dinger Tor via Fordsland Ledge.
After lunch, I used the military roads to head eastward to the lake at Ockerton Court. Using the military roads again, I headed towards Hangingstone Hill, turning left just before the summit and then heading to Wild Tor. I camped at a windy Wild Tor for the night.
The weather had improved overnight, so it was a dry pack-up (#LeaveNoTrace) before heading down to Steeperton Brook to fill my water containers.
The ridge walk passing Oke Tor, Higher Tor, Irishman's Wall and Belstone Tor was wonderful with great views on both sides. Then I descended to the East Okement River, which I followed until I joined the Devonshire Heartland Way. The walk along the old railway bed was easy and in no time I was back at Okehampton Station.

Nice one, it looks like you know the area like the back of your hand! Getting sleep on a multi dayer is so important glad you managed to get some on the next day👍🍺

I do like walking in this area but I do try and walk somewhere new each time. Yes you're right Snowy, lack of sleep can ruin a trip. atb Simon

You certainly put in the miles I'll give you that, it's a steep old trek down into the valley, hard on the knees.

🍻, I just love walking on Dartmoor. It was the climb up to Fordsland Ledge that I found harder, atb Simon

If you have completed all your planning, checked your kit, it should be great. Hopefully the skies clear and you get to see millions of stars (a wonderful sight). Relax and enjoy your first solo wild camp and tell us how it went when you get back, atb Simon

You know Dartmoor well. All the Tors.
I’ve only rode over it once and stopped at that famous pub for a pint.
    👍

I always try to explorer somewhere new when I go. But I don't know it as well as some.
Now the train goes to Okehampton it's really easy to visit, atb Simon

Really enjoyed watching, many thanks for sharing. Such a beautiful area, we wild camped on Oke Tor earlier this year which we loved. Any chance you could please let me have the GPX file of your route? Kind regards, Trudy

@trudytalbot yes it is a lovely area of Dartmoor. Oke Tor is a great camp spot, I camped there one windy night on my, North Dartmoor Adventure video.
