- Trev's back out on Dartmoor, for a circular walk from Princetown downloaded from Viewranger, visiting some new tors and old, and touching on a classic Dartmoor Legend.
This easy to follow 9 mile circular walk follows the tracks around the Walkhampton Common area out of Princetown, weaving in around tors such as Kingstor, Foggintor Quarry and Swell Tor, with views of the fantastic tors of Merrivale, Middle and Great STaple, Roos Tor and Great Mis Tor. Then its heading out over Ingra Tor, where views of the Sheepstor area come into sight, (including Leather Tor and Sharpitor) then across the B3212 where we walk alongside the Devonport Leat and the River Meavy to take in two new Tor's, Black Tor and Hart Tor. And we stop off for a Dartmoor legend along the way!

Ah nice! I took my 9 year old for his first wild camp at Kings Tor. It always has a fond place in our hearts.
Kings Tor is a great tor - lovely memories to make! Thanks very much for watching!
Very enjoyable video Trev, thanks 🙂. Sharing it.
Thabks very much, Marco. Good to hear from you, mate. Cheers
Throughly enjoy this and caught a video of you with your friend Stan, while it was not eventful it was great as you both share things like cross the bog when you should have taken the road, Stan;s big bag and you roughing it in the tent on a chilly nite. Your share of the rums was priceless.
Ah thanks Richard. We always enjoying taking the warts an' all approach, and sharing the highs and the lows. Hapless hiking at its finest haha... thanks for watching
@@SummitOrNothing Is there away I may provide a donation? Not seeing anything here states side.

Love a legend trev
Who doesn't, David? .... oh yea.... Nath! 🤣
@@SummitOrNothing cant please everyone 🤣
Looks like a nice walk liked hearing the history. Take care cheers Karl 🤟
Cheers mate. Was a good old stroll. Cheers for watching.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching
Another great video Trev .
Thanks very much.
Interesting walk Trev. Love old quarry and mine workings etc. I'll be on my guard for hairy intruders too, cheers for the warning 😉
Haha... thanks Des glad that you enjoyed it. I don't get scared of those dartmoor legends.... much.... 😳😱💩
Wow , that was quite a stomp. No wonder you were a bit puggled. I love how describe the feelings you get when visiting different tors* Thank you for taking the time to tell us another legend :-) It's just a shame you missed out on your lunch .
Yea, this was a good walk, not like me to drag my heals after nine miles though. Must be out of practice. Thank you for watching
Hi Trev, lovely put together vid, loved the views, music and of course the Dartmoor legend, a real treat. Thanks for sharing 😉
Thank you very much for watching, Anne, Really glad that you enjoyed the video. Cheers!
Cracking video, was over that way just over a month ago or so doing a multi day. Happy memories of getting blown off Ingra Tor at midnight 🤪🤣👍🏽 character building.
Was a great area - and I can imagine it gets very windy up there. Hope you enjoyed your time spent out there - thanks for watching!
@@SummitOrNothing absolutely loved it, did two nights at foggintor quarry, was like somewhere out of lord of the rings to a city boy like me. Stunning views
The waterfall just before you went up Black Tor was Black Tor Falls, it was my Grandmothers favourite spot on Dartmoor.
Looked a bit boggy and very quiet but good to see you still getting out, been miserable Up North lately, which is a shame. Good to hear it was the best day in 2 weeks for you, on our good day for 2 weeks, I was sniffling and sneezing for whimped out of a Lakes trip 😷. Quite a few stone bridges there, which tied in well with the Dartmoor legend and the hairy hands! You should never have mentioned what a glorious day it was at the start lol, although, it could have been a lot worse. Nice walk out, cheers Alan
Haha! Yea, youre probably right Alan - jinxed the weather there I reckon. Hope you're feeling better now, mate! Take care and stay safe sir!
Trev, you are a pro 👍
Great recording and editing, the musical accompaniment was just right👌
Dartmoor in places looks like an alien landscape but this time of year a diverse contrast in colours. I suspect as winter sets in, the number of walkers will dissipate with only a few hardy souls braving the inclement weather on exposed tors.
During such bad weather it's great to find shelter and respite in a deciduous copse, conifer wood or behind a stone wall. Stay safe atb Taff 🤠
Cheers Taff. Yea this was a different side to Dartmoor, alright, and it does look alien. In fact Foggintor quarry reminded Narh and myself of Magrathea from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy lol.
It was surprisingly busy this day, but I guess it was a dry day pigeon holed in between some really wet weather
Cheers for watching
Yo trev, awesome video as always. very inspiring, Next Sunday the 1st myself and a few mates are tubing the river dart. We are leaving from two bridges and ending up at holne bridge, its about 14 miles of river. We can't wait, beautiful area, we just hope there is some rain to help the flow. wish us luck, cheers Trev
Hi Amy. That sounds awesome. 8 have always wanted to give tht a try myself, done some in new Zealand, nearly 20 years ago 😳... was great fun. By the looks of it at present, I think there's gonna be plenty of water around... thanks for watching.
@@SummitOrNothing cheers Trev, come and join us if you want! I have done the loop before but never this far! its going to be a good adventure!
Great video, love the legends 👍
Cheers Steve.
That was a really interesting legend, love the history and myths that you weave into your walks!
Thanks very much really glad that you enjoyed it. Cheers for watching.
I am so pleased it was hairy hands!
Haha... glad you enjoyed it!
Another great video, thanks.
I didn't know Viewranger had a notification feature, must find out how you add it to a route. I usually add this sort of info to the description.
Yea, its a great feature - need to look into this myself. Thanks for watching!
Well done Trev, another great walk.
Thanks Malcom, glad that you enjoyed it.
Great video Trev! What is the music at the end? It’s lovely.
Another great vlog Trev - thanks for taking us along - some really interesting history around there too :)
Thanks for joining me.
Brilliant as always Trev , and on a personal level my favourite so far of your dartmoor trekking videos as i lived in Princetown for the first 18 years of my life. 👍👍
Thanks Tony. Glad that you enjoyed it.
Another quality video Trev, cheers for sharing! 👍🏻
No worries. Cheers for watching!
Beautiful as ever. No, not referring to 🧔 (sorry Trev! 😁). May you have many, many moor of these walks, and we, the vids. Cheers!
Haha! Thanks very much. More to come yet! Cheers!
Great video as always 👍😃 And what a fantastic landscape ❤
Thanks Torunn
Glad that you enjoyed it.
Love the history of various places on Dartmoor and the legends...
It certainly has a lot of history. Cheers Max
Finally, my favourite Dartmoor Legend! Well, after you Trev of course, you blinking legend you!
Haha! Flattery will get you everywhere, Steve! Thanks for watching !
Such a beautifully stark landscape...such a wonderful hike...thanks so much for taking us along....
Thanks very much for joining us! Glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
With Wales in lockdown it was great to see you walk one of my favourite walks Trev. Stay well.
I know, such a shame, but to be honest, I am kind of hoping that our government will do something similar whilst the numbers are so high - I can see the west country getting inundated with visitors for half term (which they are on about extending for some strange reason!) I think we should all stay close to home for the time being, perhaps not locking down but not travelling so much! Anyway, moan over... stay safe mate! This will all be a blip on the horizon one day!
@@SummitOrNothing agree totally. Just wish people as apposed to moaning about it just stuck to some simple rules. My moan over. Stay safe and enjoy the moor. It's good to see it even if it's through UA-cam.
great video as always and well put together my stomping ground
Cheers Phil, glad that you enjoyed it!
Great video. Planning a trip down there now early Nov when we're back down in Somerset as it's so good to see what it looks like rather than a Google maps or viewranger fly by!
I don't blame tou. Can't beat the real thing. Enjoy and stay safe!
HI, love the vid thanks
Thanks Lance.
Heh nice, I don't know when this was, but on Thursday I did part of that walk in the opposite direction (from Yelverton to Foggintor, a diff 9-miler) and did a video on it ;) Nice to see your different shots of Ingra Tor/King's Tor that I passed along that old railway track. On either side of the top of that railway Arch are another Fur Tor/Yes Tor. You've got a mighty zoom on your camera!
This was the Thursday before last, I think. Would have been funny to pass each other. Cheers dude!
Cheers Trev, great video. Gotta get me some of that Dartmoor malarkey but stuck in s.wales under lockdown at the moment.
Sorry to hear that. Stay safe, and if tou get bored, why not go through the summit or nothing year by year back catalogue... already done that? Do it again lol
Yeah been doing that, great back catalogue. I do have the local hills to get out and pitch my tent on so not all that bad, cheers.
Very enjoyable. Great scenery and well edited as usual but seem to be getting more of your personality coming out now. Nice.
Thanks Joe. Glad you enjoyed it!
Broad Falls is not that bad! Follow the treksandtors guide to get there and you'll have a much more enjoyable walk. You can then follow the small valley up above to Red Lake Tip (it is boggy around Red Lake though). Or you can retrace your steps back to the clapper bridge and up towards the Puffy Billy track and pick up either the Zeal Tor tramway or follow the high ground to Eastern White Barrow and head back down to Shipley Bridge.
Yea, maybe one day i will visit it again, but must admit we didnt find it that impressive when we made it out that far! We came from Shipley Bridge and past the barrow when we visited. The walk home around teh avon reservoir was a bit better mind! Cheers for watching!
Stood more or less on that spot, when i was 11 yrs old, looking down on Princetown, with my parents. My dad taught me how to feed the wild horses correctly too. A fun holiday for my dad n me but mum was bored. She preferred boring Blackpool 😴
It's amazing what you remember from your childhood. Hopefully our kids will look back fondly on our walks, for all of their moaning beforehand they always seem to love it once they're out.
The Ghoul or whatever it was probably knew Dartmoor like the back of it's hAiRy HaNdS
Hahaha.... yea he probably did... wasn't very good driver though 🤪
The legend of the hairy hands has something to do with the fact the local pub is nearby. However, I wouldn't dismiss these legends because I do not want to upset the Dartmoor Pixies! 🧚♂️
That is probably a valid point... another Dartmoor resident creating mythical beasts to excuse his behaviour lol. Thanks for watching!
Given that you are near a quarry which I believe had prisoners working there, that might be a reason for your sense of unease at Ingra Tor? I’m thinking that back in the day, escaped prisoners were shot. Maybe an escaped prisoner was shot there? Just a thought.
Glad that you are keeping up with the Dartmoor legend stories 👍🏼
Thats a good point... could be a lot of history surrounding the prison there, you're right. Thanks for watching
I’m pretty sure you pointed out Down Tor and not Sheepstor....in Dartmoor terms they’re right next to each other....another great vid though👍🏻
You could’ve nipped across to Cramber Tor while you were up there....easy from Hart Tor😊
That wouldn't surprise me. I used that viewranger skyline thingy, it was a bit wobbly. Oh well. That general area. Thanks for watching!
Hi Trev, nice hike, lovely countryside and historic as well. A large part of your hike was on the old Princeton Railway, with a good story behind the railway, check out:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princetown_Railway#
Hows the oex coat?
I know u have stated it feels like a boil in a bag feel to it in the past
Yea, I still wear it but have to put it straight in the wash each time I get home with it! Its very good at collecting sweat...😖
I love this part of the Moor, almost my favourite, but I do love Yes Tor area.
How did you bag Vixen, the forbidden Tor?
Nice walk Trev!
I didn't bag Vixen, but walked beside it on a previous walk. I think up until then I had always wondered which tor it was. This is a great area but yea, I think I shall have to agree - Yes Tor and the high moor is probably my favourite too. Thanks for watching!
I always thought hairy hands was more of a Tiverton thing.
I don't know. Its reported along this road so...?!
@@SummitOrNothing Tiverton was the capital of inbread people in England hence the hairy pamus.
Although my wife is from north Lew.
@@chinsawjosh 🤣🤣🤣
It would’ve been ‘The Webbed Hand’ had he been on Bodmin Moor....😂😜
Play on u tube Tom outdoors videos you will enjoy Kent ain't dartmoor but it's always good to explore
