My Modified Middy Haircut - How to Style a Middy

- Hello everyone! I wanted to share a bit about how I've been styling my hair since I got it cut recently. For those who are curious about getting a middy haircut or a modified middy cut, it does take a little getting used to with all those layers, but it also lays right every time I set it now!

I got a super authentic middy cut and that's the problem I ran into, it made me look a lot older/grandma hair. Was quite a learning curve figuring out how to style it.
That is the risk of the middy for sure! I ended up going back to a basic bob cut in the end, though both cuts have their strengths!
Beautiful!
Thank you SO much for posting this! My hair is just about the exact length and shape of yours right now, since I've been growing out a pixie. I was convinced I couldn't find a style that worked with this short of hair, especially one that wasn't too grandma, but this is perfect. Thanks so much!
I'm glad to have given you a new idea! Some 50's hair was quite short, like Liz Taylor's hair when she had it short which was super cute! Always useful to find styles for those in between haircut times :)
THIS IS ADORABLE!!! I'm in love with your channel :D
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing 😊
Wow! This is so adorable. I have been curious about this sort of cut, and I am glad that I found your video before committing to the cut. Given that I wake up at 5:00am, leave at 5:30am, and arrive to work at 6:00am, I think that this is not the cut for me. On my best day, I am far to lazy with makeup and styling.
Thank you! It is definitely a more high maintenance cut since it really just doesn't work much if it isn't curled. I know some people make it work but I went back to a classic bob haircut myself :)
Great tutorial! I'm going to try this
Thank you Donna!
I love this style on you @ i love the hair tutorials ...i have a hair salon that is very retro in style.... you would think i would get fed up with looking @ talking about hair... but i never do ....i could watch all day ....x
Thank you Henrietta! I have to figure out some more styles to do with my bob so I can make even more tutorials in the future :)
Super cute. x
You have so much patience, I must be the only person in the world to lack this. I’ve been wanting a modified middy for years just haven’t been able to finally take the leap. Do you think it suits some people more than others?
is there a specific reason why you don't do a wet set? Your hair texture is so nice and smooth!
My cutt is exactly like yours!🤩🤗 one question your hair on the backside does it have layers ? I only have 1 layer contemplating on putting layers on my backside
I have to admit I have since gone back to a bob haircut as it just works better for me, but back when I had my modified middy I did indeed have some layering in the back as well.
Can you tell how your hair is cut here? Like what lengths? The modifications from the middy
Starting in the back: maybe because arms get tired by the time you're almost done and by then its easier to be curling the front than the back?
So, if I wanted to get a haircut like this at a salon, what would I ask for?
This is a modified middy haircut, the cut is called a middy and you can see and possibly print out to bring to the hairdresser an old diagram of this haircut by searching "middy diagram" on google. My middy here has less layers in the back than the traditional vintage middy. Warning though, un-styled the middy looks very layered almost like a shag haircut so it's quite the commitment!
So you don't us working spray/ hot tool spray?
Not usually, my hair is quite hardy, but if I remember to pick some up at Ulta or whatever I will occasionally.
I have dry naturally curly hair but most of the time I can get my look w/ styling gel.💫
