Legend says some of these women are still blending, forever blending.
And keep on blending!
Energizer blenders
😂😂😂
😂
Blending is the way 😂
8:43 Simplicity huh? I don't think I could recreate that hair style if you gave me all weekend lol
Most of us don’t have the horseshoe cut that would be needed for a hair style like this. Much easier with the right cut.
Fr
i thought the same thing! what they considered "simple" probably took more time than we're used to spending on our hair in 2022 lol (then again, some of the "effortless" styles of today actually take a lot of time to do!)
That was quite the updo.
😅😅
Vintage makeup routines seems to be so simple and easier to understand than modern makeup routines lol
Yes! It is an natural look! Especially the eyeshadow part! Only one color used not 20! Lol
Yes, now that I realize it :)
I actually teach makeup lessons and the problem with most makeup tutorials is they use a lot of products and techniques that, while effective, are honestly useless to the average person. I teach people to put on makeup very similarly to this video only with slightly more modern techniques.
yeah bc they only had like 3 products available back then
But contains harsh chemicals that are banned today
Love that they considered mascara inappropriate for schools but red lipstick wasn't
Only harlots Wear mascara to school!
Fr it makes no sense 😭
right?? people today think you’re wearing a lot of makeup if you have on a bright red lipstick! when i was in freshmen year i would have my face all made up but would usually leave my lips natural… when i wore red lipstick for my vintage looks i had a guy tell me i was wearing a lot of makeup and i said to him my lipstick was the only thing that changed!
@Vinny Not really sexist. The eye sees what the eye sees. If someone has full lips, that bright red lipstick will come off as being too heavy. Guys in general, don’t like a woman to wear too heavy of a makeup. They like women to look more natural. Not clownish. I say this as someone who just turned 59 & will be married 34 years this year. I met my husband in college.
Red lipstick was the style back then..you bozos..😂🤣
The foundation looks so dark at first but the end result is beautiful. I love how the eye shadow is so simple but elegant. No brushes and only one color!
Oxidation of course!
The dark foundation swatch was shown at first deliberately to clearly show the difference of right color foundation on the other girl. One was doing wrong ,the other right . All of the steps were shown like that
One color ??? Whattttt
Make up almost seems better back then
That is not one color, trust me.
I wish we had this classic narration for modern makeup
I know right? Its so classy and relaxing!
Michelle phan comes to mind
Hey, it'd be a great AI project 😉
Holy shit, every time I blend my shadow, my brain goes "blend... and keep on blending". I must've seen the original years ago and completely forgotten about it, thank you for helping me find the culprit!
The early 2000s YT makeup gurus used to fuss at people about not blending eyeshadow enough, too.
Iconic
"Simplicity is the greatest beauty" shows the most intricate down-do. Lol 😆
Lol thought exactly the same lol
It looks so hard to do 😂😮
I feel so bad for the all the curly haired people that saw this and thought "I'm gonna brush out my hair 50-100 times"
Thank you I feel seen. I remember complaining about my frizzy curly hair in middle school and some greasy straight haired kid told me to “try brushing it.” Wanted to choke him
My mother would brush my hair when I was young and put in some hairstyle. In my 20’s my hair waved and by 35 it was wringlets. I got so frustrated when my mom would tell me to brush my curls. I use wide tooth combs or a pick now.
Not a chance. My hair is combed out when it's cut, otherwise finger combed thru when conditioner is used.
My grandmother had naturally curly hair and I don't have a single picture of her where her hair looked like any of these styles. She kept it just short enough not to be a ball of fluff, but not an inch longer.😄
She was quite obsessed with brushing though. It'd drive her crazy to see any of us with tangled hair.
The first 20 yrs of my life!
This was just so lovely and fascinating to watch. I still have my mums rouge, mascara and lipstick from the 1940/50s from when she was a young lady.
Aww thats so sweet☺️
What is the difference of rouge and lipstick?
Rouge is just blush for the cheeks , lipstick is for the lips although you can used certain lipsticks as a rouge ( blush) if you like , I have done this before and it turns out so pretty like you have a light flush to your cheeks 🌸
WOW, that's interesting 👌❤️
@@sl4983 indeed I still have them. I lost my mum at a young age I miss her so much. I’m glad I have these items to remind me of her.
"Like all makeup, if it's noticable it's badly used." Meanwhile I watch this with my crazy goth-metal eyeshadow. 😂
Makeup is considered a form of art, and art is meant to be seen.
@@SeeMeRowan absolutely 💄
I looove this
your eye makeup must be stellar
Why do you wear these type of make-up?
That’s what my grandma was teaching me - 100 brush strokes a day for strong hair ❤️❤️❤️
@@Sierramarla6144 I lust over them brushes. Is it truly a lot better than any other brush? One of these days I’ll buy one.
@@Sierramarla6144 would you be willing to put links in the comments here for those brands? Please?
Distributing the natural oils that way can really help, with the right tools. Some use boar bristle, or plastic, or wood bristle. I’ve used a disinfected antique brush made out of horse hair which is gentle yet thorough, although I make sure to detangle my hair first with my hands and then a comb. My hair is now thigh-length and on the way to knees.
The Victorians also had their brushing rituals and there are so many photos of them with lush hair down to the floor!
Brushing at least 100 times at one sitting is also important to remove all that old hair that finally finished its growth.
@@Sierramarla6144 It’s best described on the blog titled sewhistorically. The entry is titled: Night-Time Hair Routine - Victorian And Edwardian Hair Care. I’d post a link but this site seems to delete it so it’s better to look it up. Also, I’ve completely avoided irons since 2016, and avoided blow dryers for about five years. Once in a while I’ll blow dry, making sure it’s six inches away from my hair and alternating between warm and cool. Shampoo doesn’t matter as long as it doesn’t make hair fall out or damaged. I avoid sulfates most of the time. I oil hair before and after washing, letting it air dry usually. Then I bun it damp so it smoothes out even more. Detangling is done only pre shampoo and then post shapoo only when hair is bone-dry, using hands first because brushes and combs are more likely to rip through knots. I’ve avoided hair salons too because most of them handle hair too roughly and hide their damage with their styling/finishing methods. In the future I might go to a long hair specialist salon just as a treat, but it’s not necessary. I also always sleep with a satin pillowcase, and I wear my hair in a protective updo while doing potentially abrasive activities. Learning different styles and adding accessories makes the growing process more fun. Wishing you the best in reaching your goal! 💖
“Simplicity is the greatest beauty” 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s weird how hair used to be always curled in order to be put together. And now people use flat irons to make their hair as straight as possible to look polished
Not everyone does that! I like my curls and I'm never giving them up! 🤗
@@Roxy0405 me neither 😊
I think the operative concept here is control. Curled hair wasn't just curly in a natural sense, it was set and shaped in a way which showed upkeep, just as straight hair shows you've exerted control over your hair.
Some ethnic groups have hair that is resistant to the curls Caucasians used to like. So the cultural trend setters made straight hair the "in" thing.
@@wms72 "curls Caucasians used to like" What?
2:11 “Like all makeup, if it’s noticeable, it’s badly used”
I felt that….😑
Instagram could take a lesson from this quote.
I don’t see anything wrong with this video. 100% on point even today. Blend, blend, blending makeup is key!
Drawing on individual brow hairs, “baking” with extra powder before brushing off, using a damp sponge to blend makeup seamlessly at the end….. all shockingly modern makeup techniques! But then again they said that mascara and “penciled brows” were too much for school lol.
It's because they're time travellers. Went back to tell women how to do things properly.
@@mydogeatspuke 😅
And are they not? I understand a girl wanting to hide a pimple with foundation and such, but why bother with a complete make-up every day? What room does that leave for special ocasions?
@@YamiKisarafor me, a full face is still different from a special occasion look. It’s nice to have people’s typical image of you be yourself with perfect lips, blush, eyelashes, and skin
I love these vintage tutorials! There's so much wonderful wisdom in them!
3:47 Jeez How beautiful she was. I loved this vintage tutorial. I am fascinated by these things
I love the simple idea that makeups purpose is to enhance your natural beauty, and detract from features you don’t like- not as a mask.
I had a sweet older lady come through yesterday complementing my complexion! I laughed and said I had on some foundation and she said the same thing about having nice skin under the foundation and that it looked very natural and pretty❤️
“Here, the hair is a shapeless bush” … Me everyday 😅
My mother has been very sick lately, I have been watching these videos so I can learn how to groom her hair. They are a great help :)
My mother always taught me to blend my foundation well and always with fingers not like all the brushes and beauty blenders we have now the oldies are always the goodies thank you for this ! 🙋♀️💖💖💖
While the ladies were using their fingers to apply makeup I was wondering, when did makeup brushes become so popular? I like using my fingertips to apply foundation but I use a soft brush to dust loose powder on over it all.
@@katwilliams9483 I think it was when the quality of tv cameras improved and foundation became more liquid and less moisturing, so the use of finger left prints and didn't "sink" as much into the skin, so a brush and even wedge sponges became a preference
Some people don't want their finger to get dirty margret
fingers tend to pull more, eventually leading to wrinkles. my great grandmother was a pageant queen so makeup was something she knew well. she would totally roll over in her grave if she knew i was using my fingers to apply foundation lol
@@TuberoseKisser fr
O.M.G this is GOLD. Watching this i can hear the clink of moisturizing creams and lotions bottles and even persive a sweetie smell of perfume very typical 50's young women
Wooooow, this is almost 70 years old and all application tips are very much used today 👌🏼.
I love all types of looks but simple beauty is timeless.
The hair they called a "shapeless bush" looked the best to me
Love the narrator and background music...it's like a beautiful classic Disney movies. So dreamy hahah reminds me of Cinderella vibe 🥰
My grandma taught me this routine and I still incorporate some tricks. I miss her ❤
That young woman at the end (well, she'd be around 95 now) is a beauty! Anyway, I watched this entire vintage tutorial just to hear That's all 🙂👍
I thought the same thing. She was beautiful but if she was even 20 in 1951 she'd be 91 now if she were still alive. The passage of time becomes more and more fascinating.
"Like all makeup if it's noticeable it's badly used." ...couldn't agree more.
Like the caterpillar eyebrows & spider leg eyelashes 😮
“Apply mascara on the top lash only”
Laughs in 60s and 70s:
Actually, it's interesting that they did use to apply mascara on the bottom lashes as well way back in the 20s and 30s when makeup became more widely and sometimes rather dramatically worn, and then they decided it wasn't natural-looking enough when the trends and needs changed in the more minimalist 40s. But that's not to say they never did the bottom lashes in the 40s or 50s, although it was often advised not to--it depended on the individual face.
Colours like black blue or grey can emphasise dark circles when applied in lower lash line when you are not using full coverage concealer combined with corrector.
Most mascaras were black back in the day and they choose to wear little light coverage for everyday .
I would love to get my hands on some old fashioned mascara. It was so much nicer than the clumpy tube stuff.
It was horrible to use that old mascara. The modern ones are so much easier to apply.
Love this time period so much. Dressing up nicely and taking care of yourself
“Blood must be kept circulated through the hair” lol
I felt so uneasy at the beginning of the video seeing how "greasy" their faces looked with all that liquid foundation, and then when they they put the powder on I felt so relieved 😂 the result was beautiful!
untill they sweated then what yukie!!!!
I absolutely love this video! I've always loved this time era, it was such a pivotal point for alot of things including women, so seeing how they did make-up back then is really interesting to me
how beautiful is vintage
I love how the tips back then are a lot better than "tips" here in the present time.
Luv the hair styles back then.
I feel happy when I get a notification that you have uploaded a new video 🥰😘😍. Thank you very much for uploading the video. Your videos fill me with so much positive energy 🍓♥️🥰😍💖

Wow. My grandma could have only dreamed of makeup in the 50s...I feel like this routine is more for nowadays😄 even though I don't use makeup
😂 my husband and I are both laughing at the hairbrushing part together! But the makeup part was actually very helpful and some of those techniques were closer to our era's hacks.
4:19 I Completely LOVE how this looks. I enjoyed all the process explanation till this point. I would completely recreate this look , it’s just so beautiful , effortless and minimalistic 🎨💄📺
So calming to listen to how they spoke back then along with the background music 🫠🫠🫠😊
I always use fingers when I do my makeup. ......However fresh and , charming look and I must say that the girl' s lipcolor and the Lady's nail laquer are awesome.
I want to go back in 1950💖💖 is really so clam every where, i want to feel the Peace 💖💖🌟
I swear I have Jekyll/Hyde complex when it comes to makeup 🤣 Some days, I'll just wear mascara, light blush, and a tinted lip balm to look natural, while other days, my dramatic eye makeup makes me look like a bit of a clown lol 🤡
It' s called mood😉. It goes crazy when you discover wigs. I mean, when you consider them just another accesory. One day I wake up and I NEED Jessica Rabbit' s hair and chromatism. The next day, I NEED jet black straight endless hair with thick bangs The Ring mode ON. And some others, I just wash my face, slather sunscreen and leave my natural hair loose (and this is the day when I' m asked "where did you buy such a looong wig from?!"🤣🤣🤣) It' s a point of no return. Start saving some money for wigs... 😜
See, BLENDING has been EVERYTHING for decades!
Times has changed. Thankfully, many people of this generation like myself at 30 dress and put on outfits from that time. Even at my young age. Makes my grandmother proud.
I'm a 34 year old man and I wear suits daily to work and even when I go to a doctor's appointment lol.
I love this. I wear makeup maybe 3x a year for special times. I do not use foundation or mascara.
Simplicity is the greatest beauty! ❤️ Love from Brasil 🇧🇷
I noticed a lot of these videos during this time always emphasize enhancing the woman's natural beauty, not disguising it or changing it.
Probably the only guy here. Love these vintage videos, though. Love what she said about simplicity.
“Here the hair is a shapeless bush.” 🤣 Bless it! ❤
It's interesting because now a lot of people in the beauty community on UA-cam say that brushing is when the most breakage happens so to be careful. But here it's shown to be an excellent way to distribute the scalp oils through the lengths of the hair. Only problem is I feel that my hair would get very greasy very fast doing this. Also with my wavy hair it would just get very frizzy. It also tangles easily and if I don't detangle delicately in the shower with conditioner, I get a lot of breakage. Any tips on how to make this over brushing technique work for wavy, easily tangled hair?
They say use a wide tooth comb to detangle first. My hair is long and straight, but I have to brush it in small sections. You might try holding a section by the ends away from your head to brush so it doesn't tangle.
Natural bristle brushes do help distribute oils properly. Synthetic/Rubber/Plastic etc bristles are what cause all the breakage.
Bristle brushes are more gentle while still massaging the scalp. And maybe not as excessive as in the video but once before bed.
It might sound weird today but they're not wrong: better blood circulation = healthier scalp, brushing from the root redistributes the oils, so the scalp is less greasy and the ends are less dry. Like most beauty routines this is more of a build up effect.
The first thing that stood out to me was to never cake it up pretty much because regardless you won’t be able to hide your acne in your face…I always see woman with layers on their skin but could still see all sorts of pimples through it. This is why I first work on my skin care before makeup
i just love this glamourous, rose-tinted videos from the 50s. they make me so happy
When I was first figuring out makeup (mostly on my own), I would pat my face with damp fingers and then pat dry with a towel if I felt like my foundation and powder looked cakey. I was genuinely surprised to see the damp sponge here! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone else do that.
I wish my hair magically was done just by brushing it 😅
She slapped on that foundation like there was no tomorrow 😂

I love how the make up artist was a male and no one had a problem with it.

Your videos are always so cool! Keep it up!😁
these women are so elegant are beautiful
This is the grwm tiktoks of the 50s and I adore it
Get some olive oil, rosemary & clove oil…mix together. Add a couple drops of tea tree oil to it. After washing your hair, towel dry & flip hair over. GENTLY comb through with wide tooth comb (DON’T USE A BRUSH!!!). Drop a few drops of oil onto the scalp all around your head. Use fingers to massage. Then comb through again. Wrap hair up for a couple hours…then rinse out. Don’t use any conditioners or leave ins.
Your hair will be soft, shiny, clean, smell great, & will also help stop hair loss…& initiate hair growth.
Will this work for black hair sir 🤔

I love the simple makeup look in this video.
Watching these ladies brush their hair made me realize why my mother used to brush my hair so hard 😂
These ladies look so pretty and fresh, unlike the Kardashians and countless other celebrities and models who are grossly overpainted to the point of looking grotesque.
Yes, the natural beauty of the women is celebrated. It doesn't look like men in drag
It should be said that there is nothing wrong with a makeup heavy look. It’s all up to the person wearing it. At the end of the day, makeup is also used as a form of self-expression. There’s also nothing wrong with plastic surgery. If someone wants to get plastic surgery or wear “heavy makeup” I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, it’s their body their choice.
@@Sierramarla6144 no it’s basically like painting on a canvas for some people [including me]. Makeup is an artform aaand can also enhance people’s beauty. I think it as both. It enhances how I feel in the inside [ sparkly, magical and glittery] and enhances my natural looks. I’m sorry you are too close-minded to see the true beauty and power of makeup.
