You remind me of my granddaughter, your voice and facial expressions are so similar, I subbed after the first "dude" . My fondest memory from when she was little is her at 3 yrs. old in the middle of my bed snuggled under a blanket watching Shrek and looking back at me saying " Pawpaw I need some chocolate " then I would go to the cupboard and get 3 Hershey's kisses for her and 1 for me every time .

I’ve got memories with my nana like that. My mam was working 3-4 jobs and I’d spend times with my nana. I remember her kitchen and her skull cup. Also when I’d get to hers I’d run upstairs and she’d bed at her desk. She’d give me a chocolate eclair and we’d go downstairs. I’ll never forget standing on her little wall with her at her rose bushes and watching for my mam. Also just before she died, she literally kidnapped this kitten that was abused. I remember her saying to be careful because Blacky was kicked in the jaw by teenagers and was scared. My nana took in stray cats, to the point she knew all of the strays on the street. I didn’t realise how much my nana affected me, when she died now that I look back I was so lost. Now my parents tell me how I’m so much like her, that we’d both be in our element in a charity shop, and because I’m a sorta emo I like all the big scary biker music. This is long but I also remember a story she told me. She said when she was young she was a rocker.
But the story used to scare me shitless. I could never get through the story, it was about this bloke who did silly shit with kids, I don’t know if he groomed them or had sex with them I can’t remember. Bare in mind she died when I was ten, I probably heard this story when I was 6-8 ish. Around those years. The bloke was found out of his crimes and he was tied to a horse and carriage, he was dragged around the streets and was publicly humiliated and people were throwing rocks at him and things. I remember these words so vividly. “He was begging for mercy but he didn’t get it. His two sons were hiding behind rubbish bins.” They did exactly what he did to the kids. I can’t remember if the kids were found out or not, but it’s so weird neither of my parents know the story. No one else who knew my nana does either, not even her partner when she died who I now call my granda because he is to me.

This one is about my Grandma Nora and her sister Anibelle. They were both living in the same care facility. One day, I went to pick up Grandma for a family function. So, she's in her wheelchair, she has her things, we're almost to the door, when we practically run over Anibelle coming around a corner in her wheelchair. I sigh internally, because I know we're not moving for at least 30 minutes. See, Grandma was starting to go round the bend, and Anibelle was happily settled into her dementia. They started talking, and after a minute I tuned out. When I tuned back in, this was the conversation they were having:
    G: That's what they say.
    A: That's what who says?
    G: The people, Anibelle.
    A: What people?
G: The people of the world.
A: What about the people of the world?
G: Well, that's what they say.
They made this loop about 4 times before I got Grandma to the door. I kissed Anibelle on the cheek and told her I'd bring her back some chocolate pie, and she went off yelling "Hear that?! I'm getting pie and you fuckers ain't!!!". *smh*

I had to pause the video to call my grandmother back in Israel. She lives alone and lost her husband and oldest son (my uncle) during Covid.😢

In the late 1969's I was a tween and my dad's parents were already in their 80's. Mother and I picked them up to go buy groceries. Pop met us at the door grousing because "the old lady didn't wash the breakfast dishes this morning" Granny replied, " Good grief, it was only 2 plates, forks and coffee cups." The whole time Pop would mention the unwashed dishes into any conversation we had. Finally, Granny had had enough and said quite sharply, "George, just kiss my butt!". He replied right back, "No thank you. You probably haven't washed that lately either!". Everyone near us heard them and tried their best to smother their laughter. Granny and Pop never missed a beat and just kept on shopping.

This is one of my favorite memories from my Grandfather before he passed away about 10 years ago. My grandparents owned 2 beautiful African Grey Parrots that were super smart and knew a lot of words and phrases. My mom went on vacation to visit her boyfriend from another state so I stayed with my grandparents and woke up one morning to the birds singing the Hokey Pokey song while he was dancing to it. He was the most wholesome people this world had to offer.

My grandmother once almost started an international incident. She was tagging along on a trip to the USSR with my mother (who was there for a conference on social welfare policy, Gorbachev era) and, well, none of the officials knew she had been born in the Ukraine and understood Russian. So when the group toured local social service agencies, after each tour my grandmother would tell the group what the people _really_ said, not just what the official interpreter told them people had said. Heh. My mother still gets a little wild-eyed if you ask her about that trip.
    Ah, Grandma. I miss you.

Girl I know the feeling. Honestly, the phone bloopers help give a good laugh when they pass away. My last grandparent to pass was my granny. I was living across the country and I was about to move back when she passed. I cried for days. I still do. I feel so bad for not being there and it was 2 days after Christmas too and Christmas was our thing. After I got in for the funeral, my dad had her phone and we saw all of these videos she accidentally started recording and when she realized she would say "great scott" and then end the video. Which is an old person saying "good god" or something worse. It gave us a little laugh in between the tears. 🥲

The next day, she complained as we drove home about her breakfast not sitting right. Suddenly, I heard the loudest noise I'd ever heard from her! And it was from her backside and it was BAD! We dove for the window buttons, but to no avail! She LOCKED the windows! With a very content smile, she didn't even flinch!

The last item made me laugh so hard! When I located a death certificate for my great-great-great-Grandfather it listed a latitude and longitude. Took me a while to figure out he was lost at sea sailing from Cadiz Spain to St. John's Newfoundland, and that was the ship's location the last time anyone saw him. The location was almost smack-dab in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Genealogy can be such an entertaining endeavour! It is rather odd that no one passed that little detail down to the younger generations! LOL

My grandmother's first husband was an air force pilot who went down in shark infested waters during WWII. (Yes, sharks. After the war, the German pilot who shot down their plane tracked down surviving family members to apologize. Apparently the incident left him terribly shaken for the rest of his life.) I'd never heard this story until I came across some papers and asked why longitude and latitude were relevant to place of death.
It's amazing how little that generation talked about that war. Not that I blame them, it was a trauma on a cultural level, but so many stories have been lost.

@@04beni04 My heart goes out to your Grandmother. I can't begin to imagine how tortured she was trying to imagine the details of her husband's passing. Nightmares were abundant, I am certain. I don't mean to make light of my ancestor's passing. It just caught me off guard to learn the details of his passing for the first time when I received his death certificate. No one passed the story down across generations that I recall ever being told.

@@Darwinsmom Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like you were making light of anything! (Nuance and tone really gets lost in these throwaway comments.) Your story just made me feel equal parts nostalgic, regretful that important family stories often get lost after people relocate away from origin countries and communities, and happy to hear about someone taking an interest in their family genealogy.

Genealogy and passing down stories is indeed interesting. I grew up hearing about my great, great, great grandmother who was Native American, but we don’t know her name because it wasn’t reported on marriage records, only indicating he married a Native American woman. I felt horrible about such a thing, the treatment of Native Americans at the time that we wouldn’t even have a record of her name. With the help of a friend who is expert in genealogy, I found out she was actually a woman with English roots whose ancestors came to America in the 1630s. We have no idea where this story of the Native American woman came from. The only thing we can guess is because my real great, great, great grandmother died young, perhaps her husband had a woman come help with the children.

I am also extremely close with my grandparents. Right now, it seems like they will live forever. They are both 89 and still in their dreamhouse, that they built 35 years ago. My aunt Joan says when they can't take care of themselves , she and my uncle will move in with them so they never have to leave their house. My grandfather is an angel too. He always tells me how smart he thinks I am.

Cuz we all lived together and everytime we were having dinner (that was everyday for his last years) he always took his dentures out and put them on the table, then he’d eat and after he was done eating he’d put his dentures back in his mouth. Yeah... Not in a cup. Not on a napkin.... He just put his teeth right beside his plate. On the table. Just like that..... RIP grandpa. I know I was your favorite ❤️

I'm adopted by my maternal grandparents. I call them Mom & Pop since I have been with them since I was born. Pop passed in 2014. My mom, who is now 87, is totally tech savvy. Multiple tablets, smart phones, laptops, touch screen laptop, Kindles, 4 Alexa's... So on & so on. Luckily, I was staying with her when the virus hit. So I have been able to help her when she needs it. She's still fully, unassisted mobile but she gets tired quick. So it worked out me being here. Not thrilled, my ferrets are used to having an entire house to run around in & now they're stuck in 1 room. But, for my mom's well being, the ferrets will have to deal until shoves in with her oldest daughter, who is a nurse practitioner. So I'm trying to take advantage of what time I have with her!!!

My granny Lynch taught me and my sister her version of line dancing, lol technically it was pretty much a few hip twitches, few step forwards and twirls. Lol my granda Lynch took the hand out of pretty much EVERYONE!! Lol he used to drive a lorry and told his brother he had abit more coal left from his last round and asked if he wanted it, my great uncle said aye that'll be nice thanks. My granda then got into the lorry and tipped the remainder of coal on my great uncles front doorstep!! Lol he also apparently got rid of a neighbour my great granny didn't want in the house by going up to his room after work and came back down with nothing but his socks on!! Lmfao 😂🤣😂 my Granny Logue, used to be more of a stern woman, she had a stroke 10-15 years before she passed and lost her voice. All her words came out in whispers, except one day when my Granda was sitting muttering swear words, as he did due to depression and my granny stopped beside him and SHOUTED "will ye stop that f---in cursing!!" Then she turned round to me and my aunt and started laughing!! 😂🤣 my Granda Logue before he got so depressed, called my older sister Baldy-bo as she didn't have any hair until she was nearly 2 years old. He also used to tell me and my older sister to do some Irish dancing when an Irish jig came on the radio whilst clapping and laughing the whole way through, probably more so at the fact that we were technically only learning and pretty much just got the 1st step right lmfao ps although we are adults now, and we still don't know how to Irish dance?! Lmfao

My grandparents all died before texting was a thing, but... I grew up in Indianapolis near the indy 500 speedway. my paternal grandpa used to have me come over on weekends in May to help him park cars in his yard. At the end of May, he'd have me come on Thursday night. I was still in school, so he'd have to call in for me. He was legally blind, so he'd have me dial the number and when someone would answer he'd say, "Jim won't be there today!" And hang up... lol. I miss him the most
