My math teacher in high-school said he decided it was time to get married. So he went back to Korea and saw a woman standing outside a library and she was pretty so he asked her name and chatted her up. Asked her to marry him. She said I would have to ask my mother first. They plan to meet there the next day with her mother. She approves. They get married. He's almost 70 and they are still married and he says he couldn't imagine being married to someone else. I was like. WHAT?!

Wow similar to a story I heard tonight. An acquaintances husband told us how his parents met. He went to Italy and saw a girl sewing outside a shop.
They ended married and had 7 kids. Likely to still be married had he not passed away.

The reason a break-up comes as a surprise to one of the party (usually the man), is because the other one gave up a long time ago. I don't mean on the relationship, I mean on the partner. If we use as an example a straight couple where the woman has given up on the man:
She loves to go hiking in the woods. He doesn't. He goes with her a few times, but he hates it and lets her know without actually saying it (moaning about blisters, bugs, wet ground, too hot, too cold, tired.....), in the end she will stop going, or at least stop taking him with her.
They both work full time, but at home he may not be doing his share of the housework. She gets tired of nagging him and in the end just does it herself because she doesn't want to live in a sty. For dinner he will only eat things he likes, and is never willing to try something new. If she wants to experiment in the kitchen she has to make two dinners.
He does "allow" her to choose some of the movies they watch at home, but if he doesn't like it he will be on his phone the whole time. He would rather spend time with his friends than with her, and thinks she's happy to do her own thing too.
If she wants to make their home a little nicer, buy some decoration or upgrade some furniture, he will say something like: "we don't need it" or "I like it the way it is".
In the end she is doing hobbies alone, cooking the same boring food over and over, picking up, and cleaning after another person, who doesn't want to spend free time with her, and cannot improve the home she lives in (assuming here they have a shared economy, and neither can make large purchases by themselves).
This is a great deal for him. He doesn't have to go hiking with her, she does most of the housework and the cooking, he gets to eat all the food he likes, and hang out with his friends on the weekends.
Then one day completely out of the blue (to his mind) she ups and leaves. He cannot understand it, he thought they were so happy together. No dude, you were happy. She wasn't.

We broke up and agreed to not talk for a month then just be friends. 30 days almost to the minute he called, we went out for drinks and are still friends today (both now married to other people and we both have kids). We just figured when we broke up that the reasons we got together in the first place hadn’t changed, we really liked each other as people, just not “the one”. Just because the dress didn’t look perfect on you doesn’t mean it’s not a great dress or that it won’t look better on someone else I guess 🙂

When I was 21 I had a girlfriend to whom I got VERY close. We actually started talking about a "permanent" relationship without using the 'M' word. Plans extending out for years were discussed. One day I met her in a public place after work. As I approached, she got real smiley, took me by the hand, and said, "There's someone I want you to meet." She led me to some guy wearing a trench coat. "This is my NEW boyfriend. But I still want to be friends with you." It took me a few seconds to put one and one together. If HE was her NEW boyfriend, that made me her OLD boyfriend. Huh! I turned around and walked out without saying a word. It took me until I was half way home before I realized that she was seeing him at the same time we were making those long-range plans. I rapidly went from sad to infuriated.
Jump forward a year and a half. In the meantime I joined the military and at the moment I was at my mother's house on leave. Knock comes at the door. It's her. "I was in the neighborhood and I saw your car out in the street, so I knew you were home. We should hang out!" Again while smiling bigly. I told her, "Why would I want to do that? YOU dumped me!" Then I slammed the door in her face. Felt good, I gotta tell ya.
It was years later that I learned about the concept of the "rebound guy." The girl was married when we met. I made no moves; I am not a homewrecking dick. She broke up with her husband for (what sounded to me) like legit reasons. I was there for her. Held her when she cried. Fed her when she was hungry. Made love to her when she was feeling unlovable. Helped her move, set up her new place. Cooked for her. Paid to get her car fixed when it was broke. Picked her up at bars at 3:00 am when she was too drunk to drive herself home (she said it was girl's night). I did most of that as a friend, but fell for her through the ordeal. She said she fell for me, too. Apparently not. After the breakup, I came to understand what a "rebound guy" was from an episode of "Roseanne" on TV. That episode hit me like a ton of bricks. Like a building collapsed on top of me. I realized I WAS THAT GUY!!!
A couple of years later, I met another girl. She had just left her husband but hadn't filed papers for divorce yet. I was there for her. Held her when she cried. Fed her when she was hungry. Made love to her when she was feeling unlovable. Helped set up her new place. Cooked for her. Sound familiar? Yeah, me too, and I knew it at the time. But I learned from my first mistake and, even though I fell for her and she for me (so she said), I wasn't going all in with this one. We actually started talking about a "permanent" relationship without using the 'M' word. Plans extending out for years were discussed. BUT I was still in the military, and just as things were starting to warm up, I got transferred to another post thousands of miles away. She looked me up in the Global Post Locator System, called me at my new post, and we started talking regularly.
Fast forward 38 years. We have two children and three grandchildren and still love each other as much as we did the day we married. Maybe more. Yeah, definitely more. Happy ending, except the story isn't over.

When I was younger I had a girlfriend for around 2-3 years. We had an off an on relationship that was highly toxic. Whenever I broke up with her, she tried to claim that I was emotionally abusive. It didn't help that she had a history of cutting, though I always thought it was for attention due to the point that she bragged about it. A majority of my friend group believed her, and I would often get back together with her in order to get her to dismiss the claims. The claims had gotten so bad that the school (I was in highschool) had called in my parents in to take about my behavior. I already had a history of anger issues, thus the school took her side. Eventually, I acted like a complete bitch to her in order to get her to be the one to dump me. It worked, though she did spread rumors around the school. Eventually she moved away. Then a few years later she makes a post talking about our relationship and how she feels guilty about breaking up with me. The post was filled with comments from people who didn't know the situation, all insisting she tried to get back together with me. When she asked me out, I rejected her and blocked her. The was, and still is, one of the worst relationships I had in my entire life so far. The fact that she denies what she did and that everyone continues to believe she was right still affects my relationships with a lot of my old friends and family.

I broke up with my ex and he slept with someone the day after. I found out he slept with two other girls when we were together and one now he has a child with. Sucked at the time, but I’m happier now in my new relationship and it was the right thing to do for the reasons above. I heard that the girl he has a child with thinks I was just his crazy housemate, not his girlfriend. He also proposed to me when he was sleeping with her so the situation was mad but I had a lucky escape 👌🏻

The "We'll still be friends" serves three purposes for the one initiating the break up.
1 - It makes them feel like they are not as bad as they are , and not being cruel and heartless, if they are still willing to be friends.
2 - They think they are so awesome that the offer of just being friends, so they can still be in your life, is a kindness to you so you don't suffer withdrawal or something.
3 - Some times they want to keep a connection so they can keep tabs on ya, either mess with you or try to come back when the new love faded fast.

If caught wind that someone was going to break up with me, I wouldn't try to "beat them to the punch" I would pretend to be oblivious.
then when they dropped the hammer on me, I would pretend to be crushed. Like "Ugly Crying" crushed. Like Nancy Kerrigen crying out "Why! WHYYYYYYYY!" crushed.
That way: 1) she would feel like a bad person and 2) she would never come back scratching around years later!
    WIN/WIN!

My Papa died in Dec 2008 at age 97. My Gimma, his wife obviously lol, passed away one month shy of her 107th birthday, in March 2018. They were the same age. And they were married for 62 years when he passed away. We always joked how he was up in heaven waiting on a bench at the "bus station" at the Pearly Gates, just waiting on his lady. They were SO IN LOVE. The best part of their love story is that they met via letters! He'd been a penpal to her sister, and when her sister got married, she passed his address on to my grandmother. And that's how they fell in love, through their letters. They met face to face two weeks before their actual wedding in 1946. They were both in their 30s when they got married. They thought of my Gimma as an "old maid." I love their whole story. I saw how in love they always were. At the end of his life, he'd forgotten a lot of us. But at the care center, where he was for the last six months of his life, he'd tell visitors that those other ladies there "look like my Tressie, but they aren't my Tressie." That kind of love is all I ever wanted and my husband and I have been married over 16 years now. They were the BEST role models for a marriage.

We’re all friends now. I think this situation with him moving away and me meeting his new SO actually helped. It’s an unusual situation, but able to work with the circumstances. I don’t have any feelings for him anymore and he doesn’t have any for me. He’s planning a whole new life with his SO and I’m happy for him. That’s what he really wanted. 👍🏽
We hang out once in a while when they come down to visit.

When i broke up with my abusive ex it was pretty much him playing his mind games again. He'd completely broken and isolated me and i felt like if he left me i was completely stranded so whenever he'd feel like i was regaining some clarity during fights he'd switch to "i don't see the point in even staying with you if you're gonna treat me like this" so you know... he becomes the victime while also having me beg for him to stay.
Expect too bad for him, some of his friends actually really liked me and since he was abusive to literally everyone around him, including his mom, a lot of people could see through his bullshit so a lot of his friends were also friends with me "in secret".
So after about a year of having normal relationships with normal people again i'd progressively started being aware his emotional manipulation and soon came one of his rages again. Except this time i wasn't taking any of his shit so he went full "guess i'll talk to you in a few days" but this time i replied with "no you won't." and i blocked him everywhere. So then he posted a sad story about how i'm "probably fucking Jesse and that's why i left"... I still don't even know who's Jesse. Commented his post only to say "no i left because you're a cunt." and then blocked him on facebook too. Also gainned a couple of friends because i wasn't the only one who was tired of his shit.

I was dating a guy for about a year, long-distance, and we mostly communicated through email because he lived in the boonies with no cell service most of the time. He had started hinting at marriage, but then told me something that he had been hiding from me (not necessarily a deal-breaker, but it startled me a bit) I needed some time to think about it, and a few days later, I emailed him asking if we could talk about it in person the next time we got together. He came UNGLUED on me, and started accusing me of all kinds of crazy things, saying I hated his family (I loved them!), that I thought I was better than them, all sorts of junk. I'm not sure why he didn't just say he wanted to break up if he thought all of this was true, but I guess he wanted me to do it. We went back and forth a couple times, and I kept telling him we should talk in person, and he just wasn't having it, so finally I had to say it wouldn't work out. Certainly showed a whole different side of him!

I mean, I get the sentiment here, but you hanging out with an ex's guy friends is "weird". Bro code = never hangout with a homie's ex-gf (least in the 90's, IDK about nowadays. Zoomer logic can be outta whack at times). My 2 cents = he still cares about you and his friends wanna smaaaaaaashhhh. Just a guess! Take care now, bye bye then.

@@lmoral222 I became friendly with them whilst I was still with this guy. They are typical Kiwis who dont have the same attitude as most of the rest of the world. If youre friendly to them, theyre friendly back sort of attitude. Its too much effort to start fighting over a failed relationship. They dont see what the issue is from my ex because they came to like me as my own individual person, and not just an extension of ex, which is all I pretty much was. Theyre in their mid-late 20's whilst Im early-mid 20's. They are hardly Zoomers in any sense of the word. One of the lads is in a relationship himself and the other broke up not long before ex and I and doesnt want to start looking for a new relationship.
I also have severe anxiety that makes it difficult and in really bad cases stops me from socializing and making friends. I moved to this country 3 years ago and they became my first real friends in this country who are interested in me as a person and not a piece of meat or an object to be owned and flaunted like most men that I have met have wanted to do.

I'm very old fashioned and will not just sleep with anybody, especially if Im not in a relationship with them. To me, that makes me look cheap. 5:00 My dad was in the Air Force in the mid 1960's and stationed in the Azores. He was writing to his room mates sister but there was really nothing there. Then when the sister was getting married she gave her room mate my dad's address. Mom wasn't really interested in writing to some guy in the Air Force so she just put his address away and forgot about it.
My mother was a ward clerk in a hospital. It was her job to take all the doctor's orders and notes from the nurses, type them up, and add them to the patient's medical records.
She wasn't feeling well and one of the doctors took her in for an exam and discovered she had pneumonia. He prescribed anti-biotics and told her not to come back to work for a week.
She was feeling better a few days later but was still not allowed to go back to work. She was staying at her mom's house and found dad's address so to beat out the boredom she wrote him this crazy letter.
He wrote back ad they started writing back and forth.
When his assignment in the Azores ended he was transferred to Travis AFB in California. He was given a couple of weeks leave to visit his family in Oregon. But on the way he stopped in Michigan to meet my mom. They hung out for a couple of days then he flew on to Oregon to see his parents and sister before moving down to California for his next assignment.
They day after Dad left for home mom quit her job, packed up her little VW beetle and moved to California. She found a place in Vacaville (yes there really is such a town. It's not as funny as Manteca (Lard) though).
When dad's time in the Air Force ended he got a really good job in Benicia, Ca and decided to settle in Fairfield. They got married in 1968 and I came along in 1969 and my sister in 1972.
My parents were still married in 2016 when mom passed sleeping in his bed next to him.
It was kind of weird growing up. By the time I was in high school I was the only one out of my friends who had parents that were still married to each other.

This happened a long time ago, when texting and smart phones were the stuff of science fiction movies. In my junior year of college, I had been dating a girl for about a year and a half. I was totally mad about her and before her, had dated a dozen or so girls for several months months or more, 1 girl for 2 years. No one ever broke up with me, it was usually just drifting apart. That night, we had gone to see a movie that involved a couple breaking up. On the way home she asked my how I would break up with someone. I went on to describe how I would consider their feelings, tell them that we just aren't a good match, that the man of your dreams is out there, but we can't continue seeing each other, yada yada. After I got through with my monologue, she said "Maybe you should listen to your own advice". I was stunned. No girl breaks up with me!!!!! ( 🙄🙄🙄). Took me down a peg or three. I didn't see her again for about 5 months even though we went to the same college. I ended up asking her out again just before I graduated from college. Fast forward and as of today, we've been married for 52 years!!!!
