Carter is the best drummer, my non drummer friends can sit and watch 10 minutes of his playing without getting bored and I can’t think of any other drummer that can do that. So musical
It doesn't matter.....Carter can make ANY pair of hi-hats sound great. He always has the best stuff, but now I want to see some videos of what he can do with the worst sounding cymbals and drums he can find.
@@BananaManPL Lol....Definitely! I would also like to see him play a set of CB Percussion drums with all Wuhan cymbals. Well actually, the 22" Wuhan china is too bad, but their crashes, rides & hi-hats are just terrible.
Bayou Maccabee wuhans sound a lot like a lot of authentic turkish cymbals because they’re B20. I bought wuhans to play steve jordan and carter style stuff and can confirm they do the job very well. a bit more trashy and washy at times but they are gorgeous sounding cymbals
I think that Dry Dark series sounds kinda crap, but he makes it sound good! I tried to play them in a shop and realized it really needs some skills to make them sound good.
@@elithepitbulldog2209 Man, that is one hell of a collection! Over the years I'll build up my own... Got me some 15" OM hats which are a prototype - best hats I ever played - and I am trying to find my perfect ride. The second I can afford it after getting a main ride I'm going for meinl big Apple Jazz! I adore the tone of that thing, it's just a smidge too washy/crashy and while it sounds amazing, playing prog metal on that thing is not advised. It's literally a 22 crash. If you didn't get it yet, whilst not intentional I am basically going to have every different cymbal be from a separate manufacturer. Going to be a fun journey.
I once owned a pair of very rare 12" vintage A zildjian thin hi hats from the early 70s. I can't believe I sold them. I've always been a Paiste guy, but those 12 inch zildjian hats were just beautiful. They sound extremely similar to your 12 inch hats.. my favorite were the traditional medium hats.
Those 15" Signature hats are my favorites, especially when they are played open like a ride and crash. Stellar playing of course has a lot to do with that.
This was a treat to listen to. Really like Istanbul cymbals! But the main pleasure is to hear skilled hands play the hi hats. I would love to hear Carter play on super cheap cymbals, like Meinl HCS, Paiste 101, Zildjan ZBT etc. Just to learn what skills can do to those basic cymbals. Thank you for this display!
Man these reviews are such a useful gift! No yappin’ just playing a whole shops worth of stuff and letting people’s ear decide. Also helps that you can actually do them justice. Thanks Man!
It is amazing how the hi-hats are changing the overall perception of how the kit sounds! I love that kind of videos for that :). (And Carter’s playing is, as always, mind blowing ^^)
I bought mine around the time he posted this vid, best hats I've ever played ... I got some 15 Agop jazz hats the other week that are same tier it's crazy. I think 15 Turks are next!

Very revealing!!...and reaffirms some of my thoughts about these. Favorite mini hats- 12" 30th. Closed they sound like bigger hats, then open they sound like minis. For overall favorite- the 15" Traditional's are pretty nice and could fit into a lot of spaces...….BUT, my favorite is between the 30th 15" or 16". For some reason the 15's pitch sounds a bit lower to me?. Maybe the 15s for best all around?, hard choice. Those 17s !!!.....good lord!!, like slow churned butter!!, fantastic!!. You just want to play them all day!
Carter playing better than 90% of the drummers on YT w just a kick snare hat! That’s why he gets actual gigs while the others just spazz out and show off.
I love drums! I really wish i could play drums but i could never coordinate my feet and my hands... but... i play killer AIR DRUMS! Maybe we can battle one day! I loved watching all of the variations of rhythms you played!
When it comes to hi hats, Agop is by far the best imo. Although, my favorites are the OM hats and they aren’t here. Can’t go wrong with any of these though.
Dry Darks are surprisingly good, even for mainstream. Great sticking even in an acoustic environment, where hihat often drowns in the band, when not miked.
Hey fellow drummers with an interest in HiHats ;-) has anybody the Mehmet 15" turk and could u tell me if they sound similar to carter´s Agop 15" turk? Seems like Agop is hard to get in Germany... Thx for your help in advance
Hey Carter, do your mix sound better if the hi hat isn't too big with this one mic placement ? You're a big inspiration for me, I rediscover my drums and my recording techniques and thank you for that
Carter is a great player and also has great taste in his choice of cymbals. These vids are great endorsements for Istanbul AGOP and the variety of cymbals they are producing in the 2020's. They have inherited the Old K turkish universe - done a better job here than Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste or Meinl. They've all tried to play in this space and kind of do their own thing, which is usually pretty good, but Istanbul AGOP is leading the pack. A question: what sticks and what hi-hat stand? Every variable makes a difference. I'm personally playing the 14" 30th Anniversary hats and they sit great in a mix. Buttery smooth. Definitely check those out too if you are looking for the sweet spot of this lineup. They get a lot of time on the stand.
Sounds fantastic! Stellar playing as usual! How are you recording this? I don’t see any close mics yet everything sounds perfect. Coles overhead and a kick mic maybe? I love that the cymbals are not too bright in the mix. This mix is album ready.
Ah, very very cool! I kind of hoped you had made a signature model... Maybe it'll happen someday - who knows! For know I'm chilling out with my 15" OMS.
The 17” sounds great but the sound is too heavy for how my main hi-hats would ideally sound. Having a set as an auxiliary or using them making a stacked set would be really cool though.
Wonderful mixture of sounds with all the different hats, your playing could make anything sound great. Slight tangent, what's the eerie looking mask in the background?
UA-cam recommendations must think I have an interest in drumming, and honestly now I think I do.
