First of all, I wanna give David Nelson at Ludwig praise here for having the coolest stuff in his office (where Carter found this thing). hahaha He's been such a driving force for creating some of the coolest production run and one-of-a-kind drums that Ludwig has brought us over the past few years, and he's such a great guy. Between him and the other powerhouses making things happen at that company, it only furthers my love for those drums and that brand.
I mean, it's Carter McLean and a Ludwig snare. Do we expect anything less than straight fire out of this guy?? NO!!! This was awesome and has me searching for new snare tones. Let's face it, someone could send you two paper plates taped together with rice inside them and you would make them sound great... Thanks for making my Friday better with this content!!
Sir, I've heard many of your UA-cam videos and you are one of the greatest musicians I have ever heard. You've got that elusive "it" factor. That's coming from a man in his sixties who's been drumming over 50 years. Bravo!
This snare really responds well to some of my favorite aspects of Carter’s playing. That sensitivity combined with those super clean singles and rolls is awesome. Man, if I were Ludwig, I’d make a production level limited run of these and call them Carter Signature snares or something. Excellent playing as always and a neat find for sure!
Right place at the right time!........"hey David what's this thing".........."oh that's just a prototype black beauty".........."oh really, hummmm" 😏 Crazy sensitive, crispy, AND focused!, in all ranges!. What else could you ask for!
I’ve watched Carter numerous times & he is phenomenal !!! I have a few Black Beauty’s but nothing I have is as sensitive as that one? Like to know what the hoops are made of & how wide are the snare wires & are they Ludwig wires? Awesome playing 🥁
Great playing as usual on a great drum. A little longish story. I got back into drumming in 2004 after a broken left wrist in 1969 caused carpel tunnel from 1969 to 1985. In 1985 I had surgery on that wrist and it took until 2004 until the nerve regenerated. In 2004 I bought a big set of Peavey Radial Pro 1000s which I still have and use. This set came with a wood snare drum which sounded very good. But I asked the sales tech what was the best all around snare drum. He said no question for him and many others that would be a Ludwig Black Beauty. I bought a 6.5 by 14 hand hammered one. At the time it was a special offering. I still have it as my main snare and actually own only one other snare drum in addition to the Peavey snare. This snare is amazing. As Carter has done in this video it has a great range of tunings. It is very sensitive. I could go on. I don't know why I would buy another snare drum. Does anyone have a recommendation of their favorite snare that they think is awesome? Thanks for reading. Bill
That’s cool. Glad you kept with it. My main snare for 30 years now has been a brass Pearl Sensitone. I’ve gigged with it I suppose several hundreds of times
i guess i'm a bit too oldsckoo jazzy type and always go for a high tuning on the snare and toms (bass is med and absolutely NO muffling of any kind). I love how he and Franco DAL MONEGO mic their drums too- true to sound and not that ever present muddy and muted sound that you hear on so many drum vids.
This video sent me down a rabbit hole of learning about the black beauty. Turns out the limited edition satin deluxe looks nearly identical to this prototype, save for the badge and the throw off. If anyone has had experience with the satin deluxe, would love to hear your thoughts 🥁
I wonder why they chose the 6.5 model to release vs the 5 inch? Ascetics look more on point and the sound is awesome. I love mine but would have been equally pleased if it were these dimensions. Also very surprised this is your first Black Beauty.
Great sounding/looking drum. As always, very tasteful playing. A bit off subject. I know you play primarily matched and obviously your signature sticks work great for you. I play traditional and matched and find them a bit too front weighted for traditional. Do you ever use them traditional?
When will Ludwig make something like this....even if it wasnt exact, itd be killer. Amd hopefully not super expensive.whjch of course it would be.....😢
Wow!!! Super-gorgeous. The range, and subtlety are amazing. Kind of like Bonham meets Marilyn Monroe. Breathes and purrs like a sex-kitten, and growls and roars like a Leviathan. What an amazing drum. Oh… it helps that it’s being demo’ed by an amazing drummer. Fab video. Thanks for sharing.
I love the snare sound(s), but I can't keep my eyes from admiring..... "Yellow." What's the story on the prototype? One and done or will Ludwig make a couple more? Thanks Carter!
Does anyone tune better than Carter? Your touch is also out of this world man. Thanks for posting
If that snare was any more sensitive it would cry and want to talk about its feelings first.
You got me 😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂

They got it together over there for sure 🤌🏻🤌🏻
You have to be one of the most inspiring drummers. I can't watch anything you put out without wanting to go sit down at the kit.

Agree! Carter + Ludwig = Pure Musicality. Wish I had his touch.
Carter playing a tin coffee can would be magic😂 100% Carter is one of the greatest of ALL TIME in my opinion!!!!!

Man, this is poetry.
I'm just here for the dynamics.
Wow….what a sensitive Snare!!!🥁
But, your Rolls and Buzz-Rolls are…..just amazing, so nice, smooth and clean……Carter McLean. 👍
Sounds Beautiful which is what I’ve come to expect from Carter and Ludwig
Just pure glory of a snare tone! and amazing feel and tone to your playing, as always.
Love the dynamic fulcrum.
THIS MAN IS SO FREAKING GOOD I FELT EVERYNOTE HE PLAYS
"Crazy sensitive"
Best way to describe yourself and your art, Mister. ♥
Oh, it sounds glorious!
Sounds Majestic !!!! The sensitivity comes through the speakers !
It's been a while since i've seen your videos and I didn't realize how much I missed them, your recordings sound AMAZING.
Right place at the right time!........"hey David what's this thing".........."oh that's just a prototype black beauty".........."oh really, hummmm" 😏
Crazy sensitive, crispy, AND focused!, in all ranges!. What else could you ask for!
This is too good all around, the drums themselves, the chops, the beats, such good precision. Very nice!
That snare drum sounds awesome. Those hoops 'n clips really open it up!
Just love this! Your grooves are always so intense. The BB's very cool and sounds fantastic.
I am sure even Steve Jordan would dig this ;-)
That snare sounds so good!
crisp and amazing sound!
delicious tone 🤤
amazing in mid and low omg!
Awesome drumming dude🤘🏽🤘🏽that snare is perfect, sounds amazing
Oh man...that sounds so dam good! Thanks Carter you are so good.
Your tuning is spot on
Sounds amazing -- looks like a Acrolite w/10 tub lugs and crazy cool looking hoops.
That snare was picking up your breath! Wow!
I could listen to Carter play all day.
I’ve watched Carter numerous times & he is phenomenal !!!
I have a few Black Beauty’s but nothing I have is as sensitive as that one? Like to know what the hoops are made of & how wide are the snare wires & are they Ludwig wires? Awesome playing 🥁
Snare sounds incredible. Wondering what makes this prototype Black Beauty different from their standard versions.
🔥👏😎Firegrains on a Black Beauty are TIMELESS!🔥👏😎
Sounds as good as it looks
Whow, the sensitivity is amazing! Paired with a nice punch: A perfect snare imho
C, Beautiful Snare. Now I’m ready for a taste of the Tony Tribute set with the 24,13,15. Thanks Brother!
These recordings sound amazing. what mics/interface/pre are you using?
Earthworks mics into Heritage Audio pres
I want a yellow lacquer Ludwig set, too!!
Nice! 🔥🥁👏Thx for sharing!
Great playing on a nice drum! Do you find those straight hoops more reliable than triple flanged as far as tuning goes?
your cymbals sound sooo good 🙈
and the snare .. beautiful …. that is not your problem mark sign stick? right? .. i would like to order some to try ..
Sounds great!
Incredible

@@mchaggis622 thanks very much. I will check the Pearl out. Bill.
Hello ! Thanks for this video. Great ! What is the series of your kit please. Thank you !

Bello/Magnifico.🙏✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️👑
Will this eventually be a production model?

Awesome as usual sir! Might be a dumb question, so apologies in advance, but do you cut your hi hat rod? If so, is there a clean way to do that?
Take my money!
simply wow!
I bet if Ludwig had a limited run of 200 of these they would have been sold in the last 24hrs.
oh baby
I wonder why they chose the 6.5 model to release vs the 5 inch? Ascetics look more on point and the sound is awesome. I love mine but would have been equally pleased if it were these dimensions. Also very surprised this is your first Black Beauty.
beautiful hands 🙏🏽
thank you
well dang… this is easily my holy grail of snare tone. anyone recommend a snare that’ll get me close or at least in the ballpark?
Is this a 1920’s Black Beauty or a new one? It sounds great, so does the drumming. Those Agops sound great, what models are they?
It’s a new prototype.
@@cartermclean
It’s gone to the best drummer to use it!
Snare sounds amazing! But… what watch are you wearing? That’s dope.
Ha ha Farer Carnegie…. One of my favorites
Thanks! I’ll check em out. Is that a 41mm?
nice!
❤

crazy
That rim click.
It doesn't appear to have a Black Beauty finish, as in nickel plated chrome.
Guys, what drumsticks is he using?
he’s using a firegrain version of his signature sticks
Yo, is the ride a 30th anniversary?
Yup 22” med

They made a 6.5” version 👍🏻
@@cartermclean that’s a Classic Snare example.
Hey Carter. What is that big symbol on your far right with the black triangle on it?
22” Agop xist dry dark brilliant
@@cartermclean thanks! It sound great
beautiful!! I am imagining how a 6.5" would sound 🔥
Yeah,it sounds just like a Black Beauty folks...my 1979 14 x 6.5 sounds even better...that's the way Ludwig make 'em 👍
Охуенно!!!!
If this becomes available im buying one!
Your playing is just so effortless 🤌🏼 Are those new Carter McClean sticks 2.0?
They make them for me in fire grain. Might be a limited run down the road
But, more importantly , is that a Navitimer on your wrist?⏱️
Farer- Carnegie 👍🏻
