There is only one drummer I can listen to for hours, and that is Carter. Together with his great sounding kit he always creates beautiful drumstories... keep on doing this, Carter. Thank you so much!
Fantastic job capturing & honoring the spirit of the Great Roy Haynes. R.I.P. to one of the all-time masters and innovators of jazz. Mr. Haynes, you will be missed, yet forever revered & remembered.
Roy, Lou and Quincy? That is one crap week. Very nice tribute, and I feel your voice on the drums keeps improving, it was already great a few years back, now it’s even better.
Amazing tribute, Carter. As ever, your expressiveness is unparalleled. Simply stunning. I’m disappointed I didn’t know of Mr Haynes until his death (and too many other jazz greats as well); having just read up on his career, that’s a gaping hole I’ll eagerly fill now.
Wow. This is way more than a 'solo' it's more like a drum composition. You think like a composer. Oh yeah, you are that too! Beautiful (as always). But this as a tribute carries a weight that is palpable. Bravo.
Your drumming is really inspiring man, I'm usually more of a metal guy but your touch and feel on the kit is so musical. Been following you for a few years now and it's really opened my mind to new sounds and styles.
Well Carter you have done it yet again. Tremendous playing and a fine tribute. As I have mentioned before I think your hand technique is superb. I think it allows you to improvise at will. Many of your phrases here are so evocative. To me of winter approaching, being at a funeral, but some energy around things to come. Just wonderful playing and musicianship Carter. Thanks. Bill.
Roy Haynes is the king! I thought late period Roy was my favorite--he had achieved this type of Zen 'minimalism', but it was still totally swinging and the band sounded great (even with Roy leaving all those 'open spaces in what he was playing). The Japanese have a term for someone who, like Roy, had distilled their artistry down to it's essence. (I have to look it up.) I read a book where the conductor Seiji Ozawa had described late-period Louis Armstrong with that term. In my opinion, Roy Haynes had achieved that same level of artistry as late-period Louis Armstrong. RIP Roy...
We're not worthy!! hehe! Great Solo, sounds phenomenal as always, hope your week gets better. p.s. you have gotten so good at mixing your single strokes with double strokes I have a hard time figuring out when your playing one vs the other. crazy
Random question Carter, but do you the brand and model of the flooring you chose in your drum room? Always loved the way it looks and would love to something similar. Thanks!
Tuning = impeccable! (1, 5, m7, even the kick sang along!) Playing = impeccable! Recording = also impeccable! But, why is your snake so far away from your kit?
RIP to one the most important innovators and trail blazers !! And with style and grace
Why RIP ?? 😢
