Jazz drummers have been playing small kick drums since the 1940's bebop era. They generally sound better with smaller jazz ensembles where upright bass holds the quarter notes down and the kick is used for accents and comping. Big band drummers generally feathered quarter notes on large kick drums to reinforce the quarter note pulse.
Although yes the ride does have a very jazzy warm sound to it and would kick ass in a lot of situations finding that ideal jazz ride sound may come with perhaps a different ride for others. For me, ideally Meinl Sand ride is a good one, but then again so are the Paiste Dark Twenty series.
Current Banter might be by now. I paid well over $700 3 years ago for mine. Now you’ve got me headed upstairs to the drum room to play mine. 15” hats, 20, 22,24, and 26” 30ths
I never really care about what it is you’re demoing. Truly tasteful drumming. So much rhythmic diversity. Your right hand seems to have a mind of its own with those ride patterns man. I learn a new one with each video
Oh my god, it sounds so much nicer than expected. I was expecting so many over bearing overtones but it actually has a really beautiful balance and crashes perfectly! Would love to play this cymbal one day
Great playing, feel, and tuning, as always. But the things that just gets me is how well you mic and mix your set. It makes me doubly angry whenever you make a video; because I know I have to watch from beginning to end and that hardly anyone records drums as fantastic as you.
His playing is what makes the recording sound good. Every hit is hit with the optimal angle and velocity and to the optimal spot. And his playing is interesting, that also makes you feel the recording is good. Of course the earthworks mics are really good, but it's just a small piece of the puzzle.
That's a great cymbal, some great drum sounds and some great playing, Sir. That is one class act! I've got a 26" Agop signature and I just love it to bits.
My God, what you can do with almost nothing! I’ve been playing for 45 yrs.-I wish I could play like you. The smooth feel and touch is unreal! BTW, the cymbals are beautiful.
The first time I heard you (Carter) play was back with that large metal bell in a short demo.. I immediately did not want to like what I was hearing even though it was too late.. it stuck.. In this style of drumming what this video reveals is brilliance and mastery at it's best.. Those who know of what I speak simply know.. Oh and as a result of that older video I too have a set of Gon-Bot bells with a single spring between them.. very cool.. Thank you for the inspiration :)
That’s it I want a 30” ride. You know what?! Give me a gong and drill a hole in the center. Any old gong will do. Hahaha Jokes aside I love your playing sir. You’re an inspiration for me. Keep kicking ass. ✌🏻❤️💪🏻
Full honesty, i think I've watched this video more than any other on UA-cam. I watch all your videos but this one i come back to over and over. That ride is so tasty and the playing is fantastic. Id love to see you play this cymbal more in your newer content
I’ve got a Meinl 26 that I really enjoy playing because it’s a great ride and crash, and I love the wobble of this large cymbal. It’s the only Meinl I have among mostly Agop’s. I really like the 26” that you’re playing! Thanks for another great video Carter!
Brilliant playing as always and top notch sound. I love the main sound of that ride. It doesn’t sound too big as we might expect. The bell is a bit of a disappointment. With a cymbal so big it seems like it should ping more. Please keep just sound demoing all the stuff you own, it’s so fun to watch.
Drummers from the big band era played 26" bass drums and 17" cymbals. Now we're playing 26" cymbals and 17" bass drums.
Just the evolution of music. Most people don't want a kick drum that sounds like a concert bass drum.
im down to play 26 on both

Current Banter yessir!
Bigger better 🤣👍🏾 the problem is traveling... i am still happy with my 32” sabian ride 😁
This is the ideal jazz ride sound. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance sounds like.
@MrMyopinionsmatter it's a meme, you dip
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@whs1pmjazz a lot of the musicians on youtube are boomers so they dont know meme culture
Jose F Pirela medium thin low gang

Came for the 26” ride stayed for the drumming
Yessss
Me 3.
Seriously, this dudes on fire.
Absolutely correct.
I think Carter could play a cheap amazon-bought kit and it would sound like a million bucks.
This man's playing is so full and effective, you almost forget there's no band.
When the cymbal went *BwOOOooooosh* I felt that.
and here i am using a piece of paper to make my snare sound like a snare
Update 08.1.2021: Getting a new snare soon :D
Nothing wrong with that!!
Me too, it works really well
I just taped an eraser to my snare head
Hey, as long as it works
An idea isn't stupid if it works
this whole drumset sounds so damn fire.
That cymbal is probably worth more than my car LOL
Yeah I got one 2-3 years ago. Paid over $700 for it then....
But it’s a beast. I pull it out just to aggravate the band..
But I really do like it
@@elithepitbulldog2209 so his car worth less than $700
Ibreak Promo but I bet he would like the cymbal a lot more. Yeah I pull mine out every now and then and explore it, it’s that big
i think it's around $880

The way you look at the camera at 2:34 like "yeah that's right." when starting that groove was pure gold xD
it sounds so warm and good without being too bright
4:30 that control and consistency between the singles and diddles...
Great observation.
It sounds exactly the same, even though he’s switching between the two. It’s remarkable.
You know those weird videos of people eating oversized seafood? This is the drums version of that
This is fine dining
I've been a Zildjian man for 17 years, but this is THE finest cymbal I've EVER heard. Ever.
I never really care about what it is you’re demoing. Truly tasteful drumming. So much rhythmic diversity. Your right hand seems to have a mind of its own with those ride patterns man. I learn a new one with each video
You know, I'm no professional here, but the whole damn thing sounds good.
I don't even play drums, yet I'm totally mesmerized here. I'm a Rock guitar player, drooling over this guy's silky smooth playing. Holy crap, man.
Oh my god, it sounds so much nicer than expected.
I was expecting so many over bearing overtones but it actually has a really beautiful balance and crashes perfectly!
Would love to play this cymbal one day
Holy mother of god that was some smoooooooth playin
That's probably one of the most gorgeous cymbals ever made. Wow.
Damn, is this the best cymbal demo I've ever seen? Subbed.
This was like going to a Mexican restaurant for my ears.
Beautiful!!! Puts me to sleep... but in a good motherly nurturing way. Like I know everything’s going to be alright worry free mind at ease.
Great playing, feel, and tuning, as always. But the things that just gets me is how well you mic and mix your set. It makes me doubly angry whenever you make a video; because I know I have to watch from beginning to end and that hardly anyone records drums as fantastic as you.
true words.
outstanding
I run to my practice kit after ever video

his kick drum has a lot of sustain and it kind of fills the roll of a bass it's really cool

I own the Istanbul Agop 24” Joey Waronker ride and I love this 26” Agop just as much. It’s beautiful.
That’s it I want a 30” ride. You know what?! Give me a gong and drill a hole in the center. Any old gong will do. Hahaha
Jokes aside I love your playing sir. You’re an inspiration for me.
Keep kicking ass.
✌🏻❤️💪🏻
Whenever I want to be reminded of what the ideal ride sound is, I come back to this video.
Damn bro! Those jazz and funk beats are so smooth they cured my hangover headache. Love the sound of the kick.
Carter has the best demos out of anybody on this website, period.
Lovely playing. And that cymbal is a thing of beauty.
That’s one hell of a ride cymbal... Amazing playing like always! 🙏🥃
My ears are in heaven: these ride, hi hats, snare, floor tom are amazing, kudos for drummer too.
I could watch you play all day man. You have such a clean, distinct style and your single stroke rolls are insane
Fantastic feeling, love the Jazz grooves!
Wow man. Probably the most beautiful cymbal i’ve ever heard. Fantastic playing too of course.
Full honesty, i think I've watched this video more than any other on UA-cam. I watch all your videos but this one i come back to over and over. That ride is so tasty and the playing is fantastic. Id love to see you play this cymbal more in your newer content
