I’m head over heels for expensive watches and yes, I own maybe more than one. But my Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Tourbillon was truly pricey … but I bought it at a special moment in my life. I love it and it’s worth it for me!
What do you do that you can afford such a luxury watch?
I got my knob out on OF! And I save my pennies…
NO WAY!!! 😂🤑🤑🤑
Nah I’m just messing! 😂 … My investments in the exchange markets actually put me in a whole new earning tier. I grew up working class and it’s been an entire game changer for how I treat money!
OnlyFans sounds tempting though
You are right about the current prices of Rolex precious metal watches. However, just ask the “seasoned” collectors. There was a time not too long ago when you could walk into a local AD and “negotiate” at least 10% -15% off a precious metal Rolex sports watch. Sometimes (and often) even more. Why? They were very, very poor sellers. I remember walking right off the street into Torneau in NYC and was offered a couple percent off a Smurf. Got it from another dealer at 18% off. As the economy slows and slows, those days are coming back!
Perhaps...but life goes by, and I want to play with my toys today......watches are toys, not investment
God 🙏🏼 I do hope you’re correct
Bought a JLC for $7000 in November now $11000 MSRP! Ridiculous
Sounds like bragging , not even subtle
JLC price hikes have been… a lot! In a very short amount of time. I love them! But the MSRP is a bit…. Yeah….
I get the point on not spending more than 30k on watches.
But for full precious metal - relatively to other brands - I don’t think that’s expensive for a Rolex, given the generous weight and thickness of precious metal included. As a comparison to other brands, it’s in the ball park of a full precious metal omega, and a full precious metal AP or Patek starts at nearly double that.
Yep I bought my 2254 for 2K, my 1969 Speedy for 2.9K, my Reverso for 3.5K, my Millie for 4.3K. OK it was years ago and NEVER new. Would not even consider today's shark prices. High prices is only for supervintage - the rare superstuff.
Overpriced watches = luxury watches
🤣👏🏻 TRUTH
Keeps the poor’s out.

Well still doesn't stop these UA-camrs to do videos on these brands every week. I think micro brands are doing a lot more interesting things nowadays.
Every time I get the fever to buy a luxury watch (I love dozens of them), I get out my Seiko 5 and wear it for a week. It has a beautiful white dial, applied stick markers, day date automatic with a lovely leather strap I put on it. $115 if you count the added strap into the total. Then I ask myself if $20k to get a luxury dress watch is a great idea, and where would I actually wear that beautiful piece of jewelry? The answer is different for everyone, but I have my answer for myself. Maybe if I win the lottery things would be different...
I feel you with the whole 90’s thing being not that long ago…🤣
🤣🤣 it’s hard to wrap my brain around! Time is going by too fast!
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head with these watches! So many big price increases in 2023…so now I’m tempted to look in the secondary market, lol
MAAAN! Right?! Me too Larry! It’s been sooooo many price increases! It’s hurting my soul!
I’m newer to watches but secondary is my way now too
Taking a break from watches, I just wanted to give you a shout-out for how awesome your channel is. I remember the first ones, when you were discussing watches on your bed (haha). These latest videos are seriously engaging, and that crisp look in your place? Top-notch! Lightning is *chef kiss* 🤌 You're absolutely the best 😊
The restaurant analogy is slightly flawed-if I dined at the “Haggis Hut “ I’d be looking for an alternative on the menu 😎. Great vid as always.
Inflation calculator says 7550 GBP in Jan 2020 is 9089 GBP in July 2023. So some of this is just crazy post-COVID inflation…
Now this is a good and important thing to look at! It’s hard looking at currencies at the moment. Some of them are just so weird and volatile! GBP has been a very strange currency since covid!
Tag Heuer has been releasing good watches like the Skipper and the Monaco Skeleton
The Autavia Heritage 02 had a great movement, felt good on the wrist and imo pretty damn good looking.
They’re all overpriced.
🤣 it’s true!
This is such a great video! Spot on for so many takes. Although I own the same black dial stainless steel Daytona as your's and it's by far my favorite watch I own......but for some reason, your husband's yellow gold Daytona with the champagne dial and black subdials on the oysterflex bracelet has been my grail watch for a while now.
You're wrong about one watch, the Starbucks is nearly impossible to get at your local AD and it goes for around $15.-17.000 on the second hand market.
Yes! They say it’s a closed register at the AD!
But what does it’s gray market value have to do with its objective value? A 2k price increase is steep, wether you can get it or not. That being said, I’ve been waiting on one since it was released 🤞🏻
Regarding the Seiko comparison to the Tudor, I think it's about tradeoffs. Having handled the SLAs in person, I'd argue the finishing of the watch is *way* better than the Tudor's, even though the movement is not as good.
As an owner of the SLA043, I wholeheartedly agree. Superior to comparably priced Tudors.
Cartier : You can't see me. Ballon bleu de Cartier 42mm 2022: 6300€ , 2023 : 8050€.
Jaeger Lecoultre: i want all my watch over 10k€.
Omega: Here we go again, september I will increase my prices.
Spot on here!
I bought the previous titanium Ploprof last year in Bienne at the Omega factory. It came with both rubber and titanium straps. I believe I paid USD $10,500 net of VAT. £13,000 with rubber only, on a steel case, is nuts.
RIGHT?! I know they’re luxury watches. Prices just feel like they’re getting a bit crazy & the worth and value isn’t always aligning for me anymore
@@BrittPearceWatches couldn't agree more
Yeah but makes you feel happy you got it.... and the story will repeat itself.
And the same for other non essentials.
That's the way it has always been. Previous generations will moan and whine, next generation are born into the new "norm"...
2004 you got in Vienna, a brand new Rolex Submariner under 5000€ ( i think 4860 if i remember right)
Prices for Subs now, are just RIDICULOUS !
Great Video Britt, you’re awesome. Love your natural girly approach to watches it’s so refreshing and yes, you nailed it! also your transition to the sponsor’s of video was so natural you made me look it up. Keep on going!
Loved this part two segment! Excellent content 🥃
Ahhh thank you sooo much! I’m so glad you enjoyed! 💕✨
Britt! Tag is doing such cool stuff with the Carreras in particular, I think they're turning around if anything. 🤔
There have been dark years there though no doubt. And the smart watches I really don't get. If you want tech, buy tech.
Yes!!! Exciting times ahead for TAG! Honestly, I’m always cheering them on! I think TAG has all the ingredients to the secret sauce!
Its been around 25 years since i bought a Tag. Just bought the Carrera GlassBox. Very nice.
So on the flip-side, considering the normal year-to-year price adjustments on existing models as well as some significant increases (like for JLC, for instance), is there a video possibility for models that you think - relative to value, craftsmanship and the current average market price - that you think are *undervalued* and cost less than they "should" be?
True!!! I think this is a video that needs to happen! Putting it in the gringa idea log now!
the Grand Seiko Heritage range strikes me as being very good value
Great idea for a video!

I've only bought one new Rolex, the last of the thinner Submariners 16610 in 2010. The other seven used. I'm glad that I am not a fan of Rolex's current larger designs because prices and availability is pure insanity. I am now looking for a transition 168000 but even the used market prices are insane so unless I can find one needing a bit of tlc for around $7k USD, it's likely not going to happen. Leaning more towards vintage, the Tudor BB54 has also caught my eye but when I spoke with one of my local ADs and she said I'd need to come in and introduce myself and establish a relationship, I replied "For a Tudor, No thanks and goodbye". Today's people who run Rolex and the ADs have lost their mind. Best way is to teach them a hard lesson of good customer service and that's not to buy. But of course this will not work because the harder their watches are to get, the more desperate buyer's are and lining up to overpay.
Beyond much more than $1000 the exorbitant prices increasingly become not a negative detriment but the most attractive part of it. Being really expensive is the status symbol part...and if it is hard to get then all the more sought after. They are nice watches but fundamentally it is about showing off conspicuous consumption.
Great video Brit. My take on the new Seiko; they are justifying the heavy price for 3 reasons IMHO. 1. 8L movement; 2. Limited Edition; and 3. Seiko suckers (of which I are one), will still line up for their offerings. Things that are not important to me are limited editions, couldn't care less for LE offerings. Long power reserves. 38-40 hours has been plenty for me. Never had a watch run down. Precious metals. If I want precious metal on my wrist, I would buy a bracelet. Precious metal on a watch does nothing for the function of the watch, and honestly, why pay for platinum, when it looks almost like stainless steel. Gold watches look too garish or kitchie for me. However, everyone should buy things that make them smile. The best watch out there is the watch that brings you joy everytime you put it on your wrist.
Absolutely spot on I couldn’t agree more
A benefit of your hubbie buying that Daytona: any of your watch purchases will seem like a far lesser evil by comparison. 😁
And regarding the Seiko 62MAS/Prospex, what makes it even worse of a deal is that there's a collection of US Special editions coming out with stunning blue, textured dials for around $1250 (SPB419 and especially the SPB421, found in the Seiko 2023 'Luxe Collection' catalogue). 6R instead of 8L, of course, but still.
Yeah…… I did it for the greater good!
🤣💕 omg! It’s sooo true!
I think this qualifies as co-enabling 😁
Lets be honest here, 90% of people will not buy a Rolex at MSRP, since we all know the AD game.
So from that perspective its one of the most overpriced brands by far.
That better be a really nice rubber strap! I’ve actually said that very same thing… I will never buy a Rolex or an omega, or any other watch and precious metal that doesn’t come with a bracelet… I want that gold too!
Yeah, it’s pretty nice, same as the aquanaut is pretty nice.
Thanks Britt, some interesting price data here
Thanks for another episode
Ahhh no no! Thank you!
My imported brand new Railmaster for £2400 inc import tax shows the real value of the watch, not the £4350 retail price!
OUCH! 💕
It was a great episode again! I'm courious what do you think about the Tag H. Solargraph?
Seiko have been bumping up their prices for a while now. But their quality controll is not following, and that is the real problem. I gladly will pay £2500 for a Seiko, but it really is a hit or a miss. The LX Series is different, but then we are in Gran Seiko territory, and that is another story. Cheers from Germany
Right?! This is sooo true! So much I love about Seiko, but seeing their prices go up and up, and like you say, without the quality control to match. It begins to leave a bad taste in my mouth!
@@BrittPearceWatches The thing about Seiko is their actual accuracy is almost always better than their quoted one. Speaking of overpriced watches, I feel the UA-cam favorite Tudor Black Bay 58 on a steel bracelet is overpriced at $3,900. For less money, you can get a modern-looking Oris Aquis Date Calibre 400 that is the Black Bay's superior in every meaningful way (120-hour power reserve, 10-year warranty, -3/+5 accuracy, highly anti-magnetic, 300m water resistance). True, Oris doesn't have the social status Tudor has, nor does it have (extremely highly paid) David Beckham as a brand ambassador. On the other hand, Oris has an older history than Tudor, and a commendable track record of involvement in environmental causes. Indeed, Oris’s commitment to the environment is embodied by some of their watches dials. In my view, Tudor should add to its Black Bay lineup less expensive versions with Stellita movements, for people who like the Black Bay's vintage vibes, but who don't like to overpay for them.
The only Seiko I would pay thousands for is the Gundam Anniversary one. Def overpriced (though it does have spring drive) but I'm sucker for anime themed watches.
Overpriced is a very precise term. There are supply and demand rule. Watches sold for high and super high prices are not overpriced if they are in demand, and watches that are sitting on display for months and years are overpriced if nobody wants to buy them, regardless of the price. I would pay 300% percent of MRSP on some, and I would not pay even 5% for another....
Tag Heuer was my first luxury watch so I too have a soft spot for the brand. Recently I bought a 1990 gold (plated) Tag Professional out of nostalgia. It was supper popular in South Florida (my old home) during the late 80s and early 90s and I wanted the memories. It goes on eBay for $1,000 to $1,200 which was a lot more than I was willing to pay. Took a little time but I found one in mint condition for well under $500 and gladly bought it
A Tag was also my first luxury watch, a Xmas present from my wife. I think Tag are making some stunning pieces at the minute especially the heuer movment models
My new favourite britt video, if I can't make a good deal when buying a watch I'll kind of feel empty, it's in my blood.
Great vid, Gringa, thank you for sharing 🙂👍. Yes agree with all, but that Rootbeer oh man if I was rich don't think I'd care it so good looking.
With the exception of the raft of sh*tters from Ali Baba, watch inflation seems to be far outstripping other consumer goods. By all that is holy, how can Timex be selling a thousand dollar watch??? Also, 'Save the Ocean'? More like 'Save the Shareholders'!
Right?! I’m glad I’m not the only person who’s been thinking this!
Britt, I disagree on the 126610LV. It is a bargain at retail due to it selling for considerably more in the pre-owned market. Even with the correction in pre-owned prices, Starbucks currently sell for $17,000 USD average price in the preowned market. That is a superb ROI (if purchased at RRP from an AD).
I see plenty for 15-16. But yes it’s way over retail.
That’s totally fine! :) it’s a strong argument! BUUUUT, I think the pre-owned market prices are ABSOLUTELY INSANE! 🤣 I’m too cheap to buy retail let alone pre owned Rolex! But we are all a bit different! 💕💕 you’re absolutely right in this comment!
Agree with all of these!! Absolutely love Omega’s AT but the prices are insane!
Right?!
Great vid!. The huge mic is definitely a distraction tho.
😅 yeah! Working with what I’ve got!
My 1st nice watch was a Tag...and my 2nd and 3rd. I kept one of them and it's now with my youngest niece. I would never buy one of their smart watches.
The restaurant rule is questionable. Pizza Express's Caesar salad is much better than their grossly overrated and overpriced pizzas.
🤣 I can’t argue with this!
Over a grand for a Seiko? Nope. As for a no date, why not get a smaller aluminum bezel for £4/5 ? I think the Sub is one of the best arguments for going vintage, bulletproof, twenty thirty year old ones are scattered across the globe like confetti, the new ones too big already
YOU KNOOOW! James blonde! THIS IS A FANTASTIC IDEA! I prefer the aluminium bezel anyways! 😱 I find the ceramic too flashy! You know, you’ve talked me into it! Now…. Best find the £££ 😝
James has never actually compared the SLA’s to Tudors in hand.
Great insights Brit. Good luck with the Submariner! That was on my list and the Rolex dealers list, thankfully I won it instead! Wild.
Your singing at the was 🔥
I admit that Homage/design copy issue bothers me but not sure why. Love the Tudor Black Bay 58 but does it fit into this category? possibly. Where is the line between influence/homage/copy(not fakes obviously)? Does it really matter if one likes it? Most watches are influenced by earlier designs - dive watches are a derivation, to a greater or lesser extent, of Fifty Fathoms, of which arguably the Submariner is perhaps the most famous example. Same can be said of many great works of art that built on earlier styles. Nothing new under the sun as they say.
The price of the Prospex is less than the price increase of the new Omega model from the earlier model. Let that sink in.
I go to a Steak House and order Salmon. I’m just that way. I’ve never been disappointed so far. 🥩🍣😁😁😁
I agree,, so many price increases , and now that Rolex has aquired a new company, expect more !
The annual price hike. It's quite amusing knowing you are being legally mugged.
Let’s be honest. All watches are overpriced. Your average smartphone can do just about anything a watch can, and then some. And before anyone brings up water resistance, there’s always a dive computer.
With that said, I’m not going to let that stop me from spending more than I should on watches lol
I couldn’t agree more. Thanks Britt
Another great video. As a foodie I completely agree with Josh and I take it a step further- when i am traveling and in a state, I am going to eat what it is known for - In Ny for example I look for Pizza and Italian food, in Chicago I am not going to eat seafood but rather steak, In Tx, i ain’t looking for Italian but rather BBQ 😂 and so on and so forth
The Dumb and Dumber reference is why I keep coming back to this channel

My general rule is to get the best quality watch i can, without paying for diminishing returns or a prestigious name. As an example, I'm currently wearing a Damasko DS30.
What makes Omega even worse is its poor resale value. Sometimes not even 50%. If you are the type of collector that refresh the collection on a regular basis, get ready to lose a lot of $ with Omega's watches.
I just purchased the sinn 104 green dial ,fine link bracelet, i love it so much what a watch
What determines the price of a watch? All sorts of variables. The thing is the price is one thing that determines if you buy something or not.
Great video Britt. Could you do a video of watches that are great gor the money? So just the opposite concept.
Gringa! Just got a 36mm quarts Seamaster 300 Bond era, from around 1996 (2561.80) .... I'm surprised you don't mention these. For a small wrist, or even my bigger wrist... for around £1000.... honestly what a stunning watch
Yeah, that TAG Heuer is pretty criminal. Problems all around.
💀 right?! I am saying this as a fierce defender of TAG… it’s getting a bit crazy! 🙈
"the youth keep reminding me" 😂😂😂😂
And that’s why most precious metal Rolex watches are now selling at/below MSRP on the grey market.
I'm curious what you think of Nomos: the designs are really simple Bauhaus, which always feel like they shouldn't cost a lot, and yet they often run like 3-4k. Are they worth it? Would it be a waste of money to get a Tagente Power Reserve?
I freaking love nomos! So my first ever mechanical watch was a nomos Tangente. I now own the Nomos Club Campus. I think they are absolutely worth it - insane value for money! I know the design language isn’t for everyone - but I love the super modern, Bauhaus look. 😍
Have you seen the latest Grand Seiko lake suwa SLGAO19 it has a tapered strap it could be the one for you Britt
It was about time that some watches raised their prices. The JLC prices where the same or more than a rolex submariners or even Daytona 20 years ago... 😅

How long have you been registered for the No Date?
Green Sub for 10k? Nowhere to be found, a CPO green dial go for 16k here un USA.
What do you say about a brand specialized (or better say "acquired a fame") in certain types of watches? Such as hamilton, it is well known with its military inspired collections. To your opinion, is it still reasonable to buy a dress watch from hamilton's catalogue?
i bought a used Longines moon phase as new papers and original box, £1800 bargin in my shoes.
You are totally 👍👍👍
As much as I love seiko there’s no way I’m paying that much for one when the tudor bb and rado captain cook exists
You mean msrp prices of course regarding Rolex. Because grey prices are over priced.
Yes.
For me definitely IWC with the ingenieur really grated. Same movement as baume and mercier baumatic at 3500 pounds.
There are pockets of rumors floating around the Bucherer takeover suggesting that watchmakers like Omega will eventually find themselves unwelcome in Bucherer's new buffet of watch products. The idea is Rolex wants an edge over primary competitors. YTuber Tim Write suggests, "It's all about the math in the Grey market," and Rolex wants to win the math contest

Amen, sister.
The new seiko SJE093 is trully overpriced but I can’t deny its a beauty 😅.

It is very nice BUT SPB147J1 or 143J1, are more VFM with the same look!
@@yiannis2002s All depends what you value. I have an SPB143 sitting right next to the SJE093 in the watch box. SJE is measurably better, no doubt. Is it 3 times better? All depends on the individual I would say

@@BrittPearceWatches That sums it up, it’s just what the watch is worth to you and it is not alway just the price tag.
How I love a Jaeger-LeCoultre reverso, but that price is what I only have a book on it...Also overpriced, but more affordable as a nice self-gift 🙂
Damn, you are a super understanding and supportive wife when it comes to the watch hobby. I could never spend $25k on a watch unless I made 10x more annually than I currently do. Additionally, we would need about 5x more wealth before I could consider it. We may need to have even more to convince the wife that doesn't understand why an ALS, Omega, or Grand Seiko cost so much more than a good looking Seiko 5. But nonetheless, my wife is super supportive of my watch hobby, I just can't go crazy. 😊
The good news is no one really buys the watches mentioned. When they do they’re 20%+ off (except the Rolex).
I know they are getting out there, but I still have 2 JLCs in my sights.
*nerdy nasal voice* I’ll think you’ll find the oysterflex isn’t a rubber strap but a rubber coated titanium bracelet 🤓.
Am I saying this because I’m hoping to get a meteorite GMT soon? Yes. Yes I am. 😂
LOL! This made me audibly laugh! But no, you are absolutely right!! It is a tad bit… pejorative to say rubber!
Omega price increase Sep 11th. Unknown percentage. And there was I thinking man, that blue Clooney 57 is bloody expensive at eight seven. Next it’ll be nine. And F that.
What is the point of owning a watch?
Boy do we disagree here. I'm not a Rolex hater, let's get that out of the way before any responses come. I love a lot of their watches and would own one if the AD would stop with their games. But...every Rolex is at a minimum, 25-30% overpriced. Yes they make a great watch but their watches are not two times better than Omega or their own sister brand Tudor. And for all the "supply and demand" business majors out there, yes I understand the concept but just because something is selling for a certain price doesn't mean it's worth that and we all know it. We have all looked at a product at one time or another and said, "yeah that's not worth that". Another fun video though.
Bro...they have some seikos around 4 grand priced....and some guy...can't i believe named MinuteMon was advising new collectors to start from there....I was likeee whaaaaat? And he was like it has the Grand Seiko movement....
💀💀💀💀 yeah…. No! Wouldn’t recommend one of these! Honestly, really beautiful watch but it doesn’t align with the price and saying it’s a GS movement is a weeeeee bit misleading!
yeah that's criminal - most likely just marketing his store to do that...
I have the SLA 065 (number 848 of 1300). Not COSC certified, true, but in my case, the 8L runs at +1s/day which is was better than any other Seiko I own. Their 6R movement gets 20 hrs more power reserve but seems to come at the cost of accuracy. 50 hrs is more than enough for me. It's the lack of a steel bracelet that pisses me off. I got an aftermarket one for mine cause I really didn't like their rubber offering......
@@raphaeldegabriele7873 im talkin about some reissue seiko dive watch that retails around 3.100 $....Dude even if it has some FP Journe level of finishing or accuracy....ain't no seiko should cost more than 500$.....I can't understand ppl giving 10 grands for Grand Seiko...but to pay 3,100$ for Seiko it's just willlld.....if you have that reissue watch, you could buy Tudor BB 54 like in unworn condition on rubber ....maybe Nomos club Sport.....Oris.....think about it.....
The I agree with everything said about the last one, its VERY much OVERPRICED. I just don't get Luxury branded tech. It will be E-Waste in less then 5 years, launches with an outdated processor, (SD 4100+) and obsolete software (Wear OS 2) You want a smart watch, get something from an tech company, if you want a Tag Heuer, get a mechanical watch.
actually watch papi made a heck of an investment buying that oysterflex "pikachu" daytona. you know that watch is selling for way more than its retail price, right? i'm trying to get the same one from any of my ADs but if I get it I'd be getting the new model. we'll see what happens.
Btw, the green submariner is also worth way more than it's retail price so these aren't the best examples to try to make your point. However, I get your point that many watches are overpriced especially if the gray market value is less that their retail price.
The Connected is the only properly built smartwatch and worth every penny. Try them and you'll find out. It's basically a smart watch in a swiss made chassis and makes perfect sense.
How about longines hydro conquest?
