As far as Seiko is concerned I'd rather recommend the Presage sharp edge over the cocktail times. They've got sapphire crystals. If you only have one watch, you'll want it to stay nice for as long as you can. Of course it also applies to the Alpinist. Of course you shouldn't have OCD with the latter. The compass bezel getting out of line drove me mad which is why I sold mine.

My “one watch” was a steel Date Just for years (if you don’t count my gshocks and apple watch).
It was a gift, but if I was buying a one watch watch, it would be the Santos Dumont. Mostly because of the bracelet has a quick change mechanism. And you can wear the steel bracelet, leather, or the rubber.

One gotta ask himself: why do I collect watches? What's the point of this? Is it a form of investment? Am I going to impress my friends or coworkers? Would I feel out of place patting other executives on the back if I didn't wear Rolex? Literally none of this matters. I now own eight watches unless I’ve forgotten some. Not one cost me over US$300 and most were nearer $120.
I find myself wearing the same one for months on end. One of the watches is broken, three are radio-controlled Citizen watches (one of which I wore constantly for nearly a decade) that don’t always receive the WWVB time signal broadcast here in south Florida, one is a big clunky Citizen Satellite Wave that listens to GPS satellites but has a cluttered dial that’s hard to read sometimes.
Of the rest, I wear a 32mm titanium Certina with a thermocompensated quartz movement good to about 10 seconds a year. Comfortable, so easy to read, and light, just a tad too small (and it’s meant for women so I suppose I’m a transvestite).
Really all I need is the Certina and one of the Citizen watches as backup if the battery needs changing. I should sell or give away the rest. They’re all quartz (my automatic Omega Seamaster was stolen years ago) and effectively worthless, but I’m sure a charity shop could get $10 or so for any of them. Maybe the Satellite Wave could fetch a couple hundred on eBay but it’s weird enough to keep.

I've still got the watch goggles on and keep buying a few randoms here and there, but now I find myself selling the ones I never wear. I'm willing to bet that in a year my collection will be down to just 2 or 3. I find myself wearing my dressier watch for some occasions and I'm in love with my Seiko SSC911 Panda. Checks that Daytona box and is a fantastic watch in its own right.

The Aqua Terra was mentioned last, perhaps because she saved the best for last. There is literally an Aqua Terra model for every single human being on the planet, as the Aqua Terra collection is gigantic with more than 130 variations. The model line has at least five case sizes, countless dial colors and textures, different materials including steel, titanium, ceramic, and gold, multiple different types of complications, and endless combinations of steel bracelets, rubber straps, leather, NATO, etc. They could probably discontinue half the Aqua Terra models in their current catalog (and they probably should) and the Aqua Terra would still be the most versatile luxury watch collection on the planet.

Last year I added a Breitling Ocean with an orange face, which wear daily (I like orange). I'd like to add one more watch, a Santos Small Quartz Rose Gold. Quartz because my Blancpain and Breitling are very inaccurate and I'd like a watch I don't have to reset weekly. Classic first world problem.

First of all, warmest congratulations to you and WatchPapi on the birth of your little one! Regarding the topic of this video, as of today the watch that can suit everybody's needs as only watch IMHO is the new Longines Conquest: 3 different sizes, 2 strap choices, modern and reliable movements, 100m water resistance with screw-down crown for a reasonable price (2k€ in Europe). Compared to the Tudor, it lacks COSC certification and micro adjustment on the clasp but for half the price it's an absolute bargain, even considering that quality is as good as the Black Bay. Ok, It's true that Conquests are "inspired" by Seamaster shades but for a normal person (NOT a watch maniac as gringa community) this is not material at all.

Glad to get some confirmation bias on the Omega Aqua Terra. I just picked up the 41mm with a green dial back in March. I was shopping at a boutique in the US. I asked about the price and a possible discount, they told me they couldn’t do that on a newer model, which the green was apparently. They offered me a free nato, which I wasn’t interested in. I asked if they could do a leather strap, which they agreed to.
I was pretty happy with this, as I was planning to buy a leather strap for it anyways. They were able to get me a dark brown alligator strap with the gold over clasp. I couldn’t find this exact combo online, however per the invoice it was $850, which seems ridiculous, the one I was planning on purchasing was $550 online? Anyways, I figured that’s in the ~10% range and I was happy with it.
I doubt I’ll ever purchase a true dress watch and felt this was a step up from my BB58, which just never felt right under a suit.
Anyways, great video as always! Best of luck with the new baby!

I starting to give up on Rolex as I just don’t see as someone with no history every getting one. I’m considering getting the Tudor burgundy bezel if I decide for a one watch collection. I got to try it on it looks so nice in person.

My take is that every day is a special occasion. I enjoy wearing a nice watch each day. I do have a few watches: Swatch, Seiko, Hamilton, Cartier, JaegerLeCoultre, IWC, Oméga as well as pre-war 1930ies pilot watches.

I guess you could pick any Grand Seiko with a 9RA2 (Spring Drive) or 9SA5 (high beat) movement. I think currently every single one of these comes in a 100m WR case (mainly Evolution 9), screw down crown looks good for any occasion.

Wore a 2015 Tudor Black Bay "black rose ETA smiley dial" for eight years. Sold that last year. Since then, bought 5 new watches.
Sometimes, I ask myself, why did I do that? Occasionally, I miss the original 2 watch collection of the BB and my trusty DW5600.

Good call on the presage cocktails. I have the green and the blue. The one big fail which holds me back from recommending as a daily driver is the scratch magnet hardlex crystal. I added the blue sharp edge which is much more suitable for daily wear. I’m strongly considering the baby blue alpinist for daily wear too. Really enjoy your channel. Good luck with the baby.

Congrats on the baby, For me Zenith also has a few watches, their new pilot and the el primero sport are both great watches. I 'm a one watch person most of the time. when I purchase a new watch I always sell the previous one. To me its the best of both worlds as I not only get to enjoy a lot of different time pieces but I can afford to make more upscale purchases as I don't have tens of thousands of dollars tied up in a bunch of watches I never wear. My current Zenith Type 20 40mm recently replaced my Ming 17.09

In my pre collecting days My first watch was the Citizen Eco Drive 200m the the one with the mono block case. Years later it was the Rolex DateJust 2 tone on Jubilee, sold it because it needed the bracelet replaced and by that time the bracelet was the same price as what I had payed for the complete watch, sold it and bought a brand new Omega. Congrats on the baby! The reality of course is that most people who wear a real watch (ie not an Apple Watch) only have one and can’t image ever having more. I have the 38mm blue dial Aqua Terra. It’s a perfect watch - the dial is mesmerising. I also have a 36mm Explorer, which is also a perfect watch. If forced, I’d choose the Explorer, simply because the lack of shiny links in the bracelet makes it more wearable in sporty situations. But let’s face it, all anybody really needs is a Carrera

A Seiko Presage Cocktail Time in blue was a near daily for a while pre-pandemic. It is one of the few watches and one of the two cheapest (the other being a Mr Jones Watch) that a non-watch person has complimented me on. At its size, it's not quite a dress watch, the same way a navy blazer isn't a suit. But like said blazer, it'll look sharper and more put together than most other options and won't look out of place in any context short of strict black tie or formal dress codes.

I rocked an Old Navitimer for over a decade and it was a stretch to buy it. The crock strap stunk of sweat, this thing was truly my only watch. Like an idiot I didn't understand how much the watch really meant to me until I was in a little bit of a pinch and sold it for exactly what I paid for it. I was thinking I got to wear a Breitling for free for 10 years now I'm realizing I traveled the world as a young man with that watch and no amount of money can replace those memories.

Great selections, Britt. I have the Aqua Terra, and it's perfect. It doesn't matter what I wear, or what the occasion is, it goes with everything and anything. It's not an everyday watch for me though, as I have several others, but it does get the most wrist time.

20 -25 years ago you could get a blue seamaster for about £1000. I am not talking about any special editions just the blue seamaster. something has happened with watches in the last 20 years that has blown the prices sky high. I wonder if it is the dawn of Social media and everyone seeing watches now. I was in Mykonos in 2007 and i remember seeing a planet ocean in a shop for about £5000. That was one hell of a watch.

I lived happily for years with one solitary Rolex OP DJ two tone on a jubilee bracelet. Then I became bored wearing the same watch everyday. Now I have a diverse collection of 30 watches. Probably a maximum of three watches to five watches would work for most people but my watch addiction overcomes such logical advice and restraint.
