Why I STILL Don't Own a Grand Seiko.

- here are the 3 REASONS WHY I STILL DON'T OWN A GRAND SEIKO. Grand Seiko is one of those beloved watch brands that I have a soft spot for. I've had several in for review, and I genuinely really like them! But still... Why haven't I shelled out the money to join the Grand Seiko life?
There are 3 big reasons why I haven'y joined the GS life: 1. Wearability 2. Design Language 3. GS Cult.
Please don't get me wrong in this video. I know I am really critical of GS, but I really do love the brand! As a brand, what they stand for, their history & heritage, the innovations of the brand like the spring drive movement. There is so much to love about GS! but it's when I put the watches on... They just don't sing to me. I want them to sing to me! they just don;t!
anyways, these are my sad reasons of why I still don't own a GS!

I once read an interview with a former editor of a defunct watch magazine many years ago. He was asked what he considered to be a good watch. His answer was simple: A good watch is one you enjoy wearing, be it a Rolex Yacht Master or a G-Shock. That simple response helped me understand and really enjoy watches. Sometimes I buy a watch because I love the way it looks, but if I don't find myself reaching for it very often, then I sell it and move on to one that I really enjoy wearing.
Oh that is the perfect answer! And I’m adopting tjis in my life ❤️✨✨
@@BrittPearceWatches Good video Britt, thank you for sharing. As a collector of 45 years of watches, I have no interest in the Grand Seiko. the movement will probably be equal to or better than a rolex, but it remains a seiko. With entry-level model for $100. Rolex only starts at 10,000. I think a Grand Seiko of 4000>10,000 is simply too expensive. it will always remain associated with the Seiko brand. You don't have that with Rolex, Cartier and Omega, etc., etc. Seiko also has a name in history, but the other brands are higher in their history. but I do care about a normal Seiko at max $1000
I have the snowflake and its my very first GS, i threw on a blue leather strap to match the blue seconds hand and wear it everywhere (formal/informal). Like what everyone has said, if you love the watch, dont let anyone else tell you otherwise.
I just love how it looks and how you will spot different details in different lighting/angles. People will often take a 2nd glance at it cause it looks so subtle at first. Oh and with its accuracy, i never have to worry about it being off at all!
The big problem with Grand Seiko in my opinion is that their range is hard to understand: a lot of models with zip code names while all the watches look the same.
Grand Seiko really fits with the Japanese business culture. Look at them not as 'dress watches gone sporty'. But, look at them as the perfect business watch.
You make several excellent points. Even though I own a GS personally, and love the model I picked, I find other models completely hideous. It feels like the difference between appreciating the excellent execution, vs what you actually want to wear on your wrist. My impression is that while each individual aspect can be crafted to near perfection, the combination of those different components may not always mesh together well. It's easy to pick out just one detail that becomes a dealbreaker. Don't rush, and wait for that perfect piece ^^
Honestly love all this content! Hope you're having a good day :)
Whaaat! Thank you so much! ❤️✨✨ I’m so glad you’re enjoying this weird little channel!
Cmon Gringa, that OP that you love so much isn't clearly a dress or a sports watch either.
Well said Britt. This is the type of subject I’d write several paragraphs on but you rounded all 3 bases and touched home.
Great review Britt! For me my love runs deep for Oris. The price point, design language and heritage of Oris speaks to me specially in the Aquis line up with its go your own way attitude. The limited edition Aquis Carysfort, Source of life, Whale shark and the Hangang are the best looking dials on any diver
The Carysfort looks nice!
“Dress watch that got confused, took a wrong turn and accidentally ended up in a sporty case.” Brilliant! That’s exactly how I feel about GS “versatile” watches.
😂😂🙈🙈 and I want to like them soooo bad! But they just aren’t speaking to me
@@BrittPearceWatches Same 🤷🏻
The 62gs case goes back to 1967. To me it is a stunning newer version of it. No bezil....beautifull crystal. To me....dress casual. Not sporty at all.
Kind of have my eye on the high beat summer 62gs
But…you could say the opposite about Rolex. Exactly the opposite.
Yep, I wish the hybrid watch trend would go away. Let dress watches be dress watches and sport watches be sport watches.
Been wondering what kind of accent you have, glad you cleared that up for me. Great videos.
Great take on watch reviews !!! Your style infuses energy and youth into watch collecting
I sold my Rolex’s just before the peak.I purchased a GS GMT and diver to replace them.To be honest the GS dealer experience was way beyond anything I’ve experienced from the Rolex AD.
A 36mm two tone DJ is still my dream watch though recently I picked up a SBGP005 as my first luxury watch.
And wow… thought I understood how good GS were before holding one in my hands, but nope! The craftsmanship needs to be seen to truly appreciate.
The 44GS case is phenomenal and dial surprisingly rich and interesting across different light. I’ve been lucky to get a perfect fit with the bracelet too.
Additionally, I had several fantastic interactions at the boutique in Miami. Incredibly friendly, knowledgable and made the experience memorable.
What i really adore, is that i came across another woman on youtube sharing LOVE for watches just as much as i do, GOD BLESS.
Dang, where did you come in from? All of a sudden... my favorite new channel.
I 100% agree on your note about the bracelet. They’re really good, but not great. I recently picked up an SBGA375 and after putting a nice leather strap on it, it hasn’t left my wrist 👌. My biggest selling point was the fascination with the spring drive. There just this little feeling of joy I get from seeing the second hand sweep so smoothly that I don’t get with any other watch - i guess you could say it’s the watch I enjoy telling the time on the most 😂.
I think this is the way forward!! You need a leather strap with GS watches! 😍 and I have yet to wear one on the leather. Perhaps that will finally win me over?! 😱
@@BrittPearceWatches Yes yes yes! A strap takes away from the “bulkiness” and when you pair it with something complimentary to the dial it makes it really pop. I know GS are bent on selling every watch on a bracelet for some reason 😂 but now I think their design language lends itself to leather straps so much more
@@fugazitogais the dial a deep navy with hints of purple or a true navy blue? I am considering the GS3875 or the new Longines Legend diver 39mm.
At the start, I wasn't sure what could keep you from really liking GS from the positives you shared, but as you went through your points- they all made complete sense. Great video!
I hear you. I fell for the SBGJ239. Leather bracelet and gorgeous GMT dial and Green bezel. So happy with it.
I love the inspirations behind so many GS dials . . . "This was inspired by the weeping willows of this particular park in this particular Japanese prefecture" . . . but like much of the Seiko Presage line (fell in love with their Urushi laquer dials), GS is often too big imo, and I think you hit the nail on the head with the design/identity confusion. Some of their dials like their popular peacock Hi-Beat 36000 GMT SBGJ227 almost did it for me if I was only considering visuals. But I'm not buying a 10k+ watch that I can't wear :/
Kudos on yet another great video. And yes, your accent is so complex/confusing it's almost hypnotic 😁. Great analysis and production values. Keep up the good work.
BAHAHA! Oh why thank you! I’m always trying to get a little better every video!
Great video! I’d love to get a GS spring drive but just need to find the right one. Regarding versatility, I do like the fact that they sit in that mid ground of being part sporty and part dress watch. I find that I wouldn’t get enough wear out of a dress piece and sometimes a sports watch is too sporty. I feel GS sits well in the area of pieces that can fit with jeans and a t-shirt but also smart casual.
Yes, how many of us regularly wear black tie and need a 'pure' dress watch?
This video resonates to me the most. I love GS. I have been deciding for a very long time what GS I wanted to buy. I love the seasons collection and the different dial variation. But unfortunately, the watches I came to like from their collection is too big for my tiny wrist. I do get that GS looks to be capturing American market first but I'm still waiting for a 37 mm GS that has the same beauty as that seasons collection.
I’ve never heard a better reason to not buy a watch. Someone once said: “you don’t have to own every watch you love, but you should love every watch you own”. Britt, I think you should investigate the smaller, dressy-ish Grand Seiko SBGW277 Genbi Valley Limited Edition with the green dial. To me that watch just screams….BRITT!😂 - great vid, love the new graphics. 😎👍🏼
All the (good) reasons you might want to buy an OP, are reasons to buy these models. They are now relatively rare, and priced accordingly, but the value will hold.
Came here to figure out why I feel the same way, and you hit the nail on the head. I just haven’t been able to fall in love with one of these, no matter how much I like the company. I’m a huge seiko fan, and love to have them on the dial. But the dial needs to be more sporty for me. Hopefully they try it out in the future.
I love the gmts!
look at the SBGH273
@@ShepProudfoot don't get me wrong, I think grand seiko makes extremely nice watches. That particular model is very attractive, but I would go with something else at that price. It just doesn't have enough "identity" for me, personally. They're doing the simple things well, though
I'm EXACTLY the same with Grand Seiko. Love the dials but always find them too thick and the bracelets aren't great (but I never wear bracelets) ... and you are right about the price creeping up. However, price aside you REALLY need to try the SBGY007G Omiwatari .... dressy rather than sporty but super thin, lovely curve to the case, beautiful movement and dial. Now if they could just do a darker blue ......
Right on regarding the Omiwatari (which I own).
First off love your videos💯. I think you should try on and review a 38mm Omega Speedmaster, I think it would definitely change the way you feel about Omega bracelets. For a man I have a small wrist, I’ve owned two Speedmaster’s in the past with one being the 40mm size and the other was 38mm and I can honestly say that the 38mm was an absolute perfect fit for my wrist.
Oh you’re already selling me on the 38mm speedmaster!!! I’ve tried it on a few times! And the only reason I haven’t bought it is because I’ve got my black Daytona! 😍❤️ but that’s literally my only hesitancy!
GS is that nice, hard working, cautious classmate that would sometimes make you think about him/her, but never actually fall in love with
Yes!
I made a comment a couple of days ago here, just want to clarify a couple of things- I really like Britts videos.. She is smart and funny and the videos are typically delightful with someone who obviously has a love for watches.. I just felt to say on this GS video that Britt give the brand a little closer look..
In regards to what I said about not being willing to own a Rolex, that is for a few reasons. Rolex is very adept at keeping their values up not through innovation (they are quite behind in that area these days), but through heavy, sometimes even abusive management of their AD's. Where I live, there were 2 AD's close to me. One was a long time high end Jewelry and gift store and Rolex told them that they wanted them to open a new Rolex Boutique for them in a new mall. Rolex did not lease the space in this mall, the AD had to. And when they agreed to do this, the other AD in the other end of the valley had their dealership pulled by Rolex. No explanation, no thank you for being a reputable AD for the past 15 years, just pulled their dealership! Then after 3 or 4 years, with Rolex cutting inventories to a trickle, decided to shut down the Boutique they required the first AD to set up and lease and the dealer was required to continue the lease!!! Pretty shameful all the way around. That AD still has Rolex and has about 5 watches in their store due to Rolex shutting down AD's and limiting inventory to keep values artificially high. They can be very Hitlerian with many of their AD's and will pull the rug out from under them with little to no notice or why, dealers who have been loyal to them for years. I just can't support this kind of manipulation. They are leaning only on their ability to control inventory, they are certainly not innovating their watch technology. I think even Tudor is doing a much better job at innovating than Rolex.. And the innovation between Rolex and Grand Seiko, there is absolutely not even a question that Grand Seiko is by far the better innovator at this point..
Steven - thanks for sharing and I cannot believe Rolex would do that to the AD's. To me, Rolex is a marketing company who happens to make watches. Grand Seiko is a watch company who happens to make watches. I am done with Rolex.
@@andyvu8513I'm done with Rolex as well.
Just spent £18,000 on Grand Seiko this month
I fell in love with the dials on grand seiko when I saw macro shots online but found they were a lot more subtle in person. I dont want to need a loupe to appreciate my watch.
Nice. I know what you mean. The GS that finally worked for me was the SBGN023, which ticked all the boxes for me. But like you, I love watches from most brands. As long as we buy what we love, that's all the matters. G-Shock on the wrist today and I enjoy it as much as much more expensive models that I'm lucky enough to own.
It's alright about having Canadian + British accent, me myself have mainly somewhat British (first accent I practice) + American (absorb too much) + Thai (my country) accent and I think your accent is cool
and yeah, I just discovered your channel, and subs :)
Grand Seiko are incredible. The dial detail is truly unmatched. Great video as always!
Arent they JUST! 😍 I really hope to add a GS to my collection one day! I just need to find one I like enough! 🙈
@@BrittPearceWatches I've heard Chisholm Hunter stock them 😜
that's because its a great watch. GS is better than Rolex in virtually every aspect of production. Rolex is a brand, they produce superb and reliable watches but nothing exceptional. I love this video because she described why someone would truly like/love one watch over another, purely emotion. I own the SBGY013G and it is better than any of the Rolex's I used to own, even than my Calatrava's.
Great video Britt. Love your message at the end to all watch aficionados. This isn't brain surgery after all.
Valid point on the Bracelets. I just got my first Speedy and it’s the 3861 and guessed right, reason was the bracelet. Same reason I can’t do GS and it’s taking me forever to get over the rivets on the BB58. 🤷🏽♂️

Love your accent. I belive the term to describe it is mid-atlantic, very 22nd century! I met a young Dr who was Malaysian studied medicine in Germany and picked up her English in London. To listen to her was mesmerising.
You also have taste in watches which makes your videos a joy to watch, so keep them coming.
I agree about the blur between dress and sporty. I would love to see some of the amazing dials with brushed cases. Not really a fan of polishing myself.
Hey Brittany, perhaps the dressy SBGW231 in 37mm would fit your liking for wearability. It certainly did it too well for me and I can’t live without it 😍
BIKER BRITTANY ( i have Noticed ur ATTITUDE Differs when Wearing it )..! ROCKS..! Haha
Just got my first grand seiko ( sgbx263) watch .. it’s amazing … the quality and craftsmanship really exceeded my expectations…
I've had a few different GS models. My favorite is my Spring Drive GMT. It's a little too big, a little too thick, has a bracelet that doesn't taper enough and a clasp that doesn't seem nice enough. The dial is too cluttered. It's too expensive. And, still, every time I put it on, I say to myself, "oh, wow. This watch is perfect." For what it's worth, when I first bought this watch, I thought I had made a mistake. It was sort of a consolation purchase since I knew I'd never get a Rolex GMT. A year in, there's not a chance in hell I would trade my GS for a Rolex. I still love the Rolex GMT, but I've grown to love this spring drive even more.
I agree.
I moved to Grand Seiko and own a Snowflake and a Tentagraph.
Now in the GS9 Club 😂😊
After collecting many watches from Patek, Rolex, and AP I just bought my first GS.. the "White Birch" .. pretty impressed, I must confess, the new Hi-Beat movement is finished in a way you don't expect from a watch in this price.
The white birch is dang gorgeous! 😍
Watched your video. Went and put on my SBGR307, looked at my wrist and thought "Now THAT's a sports watch!"
THANK YOU. I wholeheartedly agree with your train of thought. Brilliant.
BAHAHA! It needed saying! 😜👏🏻
I've owned two GS watches, SBGM235, SBGH267, both with whirlpool dials. The best and worst thing about them is Zaratsu polishing. Any slight scratch mars the finish and getting it repolished ends up with you having to send the watch back to Japan. There's a guy in Poland who can do it but he has a one year waiting list. In the end, I sold both my watches and don't regret it.
Indeed. Hairline scratches will appear in a matter of days, it almost feels like there’s no point of having it. If I ever have one there would not be because of the finishing, rather it would because the fact that I love the brand and style.
Thanks for Choosing my hometown beer, “San Miguel donde vá…Triunfa!!!
That is so true! We are such a small group, let’s not fight between us shall we?
I really appreciate what you said towards the end of the video. The negativity and hate in the community, especially online, can get a pretty wild.
See comment above 😂😂🤣
Agreed with the point about sport vs dress.
I have a spring drive GS.
I’ve found myself holding it, admiring it more than wearing it.
Cus it is not truly a sport watch but it is not completely a dress watch.
Agree 100%. I really, really like where Grand Seiko is going, but they are not there yet. They have amazing dials and movements, but everything else needs to catch up. I continue to follow GS, and I think I'll own one someday, but they have some more evolving and refining to do.
Right?! I’m ready to fall in love with GS! And it’s sooo close! But just not quite there for me to put my money where my mouth is 🙈
You guys should try the newest models using the 9SA5 and 9RA5 movements. I hear they improved the bracelet quite substantially. Lake Suwa limited edition and the white Birch is one I can remember off the top of my head.
A good, thoughtful commentary! Re. GS’ “confusion” about whether to be sporty or dress, can’t one say the same about the DateJust and the OP?
One could definitely say that!
Brings, I love your accent. And I heard the Canuck in there even before you told us. I’m here to listen to what you have to say…not how you say it. 🇨🇦
Very true. Always too much gatekeeping.Must say I love that green dial Rolex with the matching strap. Did the same thing with a Vostok Komandirskie - £25 the lot and regulated it to +7 s/d. Gatekeeping? Moi? We do what we can do. Love your channel as always. Cheers, Brittany 🍻!
Thanks, as always, Britt for the excellent content! As a proud owner of the Grand Seiko SGBW231, I can attest, GS is all that and more. 😎
❤️😍✨✨✨ I need to see the sbgw231 in person!! The GS calatrava!
@@BrittPearceWatches It truly is! 😁
Kind of a beginner here , and I'll probably remain a lightweight when it comes to watch collections, but I gravitate towards the experiences of Longines and Oris mostly. Would love to add an entry black Rolex OP if it ever comes to that. I like the Grand Seiko, it would fit me well I think.
Cool video. Subscribed ✅
Whaaat! Thank you so much! And welcome to my weird little UA-cam channel! ✨✨
I liked the "R" part of your video :)
😂🙈
I'm getting myself a SLGA009 this Christmas and I'm very much looking forward to it. Objectively, the accuracy of the spring drive movement and the craftsmanship are out of this world... IMO this leads to some hateful comments from people who spent more and got less. If you are trading with watches, I agree that there are better options. For myself though, I fell in love. Either way, don't put down other brands to validate your choices and be confident in what you personally like :-)
That said, I'd still love to see you get a GS, Britt 😄
Gaaaah! What a WATCH that is!! And if I’m right in thinking this, this is one of the watches that doesn’t have a power reserve on the dial? That’s always a real point of contention as well! 😜
I am still willing to become a GS girl! Just waiting for the watch that speaks to me! 😍😍
@@BrittPearceWatches Definitely! I felt the power reserve indicator took away the simplicity of some beautiful dials. It's on the back of the SLGA009 and also on the limited SLGA007 (absolutely stunning watch), so you can still check the power reserve, without having it clutter up the dial. I really hope they continue with this trend...
@@TheAbysswalker That’s so interesting I picked up my GS specifically because of the power indicator. I thought it was so nifty! LOL I recently learned it was so divisive!
@@fugazitoga I can see that, definitely seems to be a big personal preference thing, haha. Which model do you own? Almost went for a Snowflake in April, but had to lay down some cash for education and an unfortunately timed car repair...
Did you fall in love with a watch that you will get for Christmas? Or do you have it already?
You identified what I couldn't put my finger on: design language idiosyncracies. The dials are *stunning*, but feel out of place in "sports watch" cases, no matter how well finished and polished.
this!
Great content
Ahh thank you!
I came for the watch content, stayed for the accent! :) Side note - Everyone should own a Seiko!
i feel you - so many watches feel too clunky - give the sbgy007 a go, it's... sublime
Fun fact: Philippe Dufour shared some of his techniques with master watch makers of the Grand Seiko
The confusion between sports and dress perhaps comes from the models you've handled. There are some very dressy 37mm options, and the SBGE25* series is all sports (no confusion), in a relatively wearable design.
It'd be like knocking or reducing Rolex to the Explorer (1, not 2) or Omega to the Aqua Terra, which to me lie exactly in the middle too.
I for one wish there was a commercial way to put a Spring Drive into a sub 40mm piece, without having the name Credor on the dial and 50k on the tag. But across the board they produce some highly wearable and identifiable pieces. Some of which do need a bracelet upgrade, for sure.
Omiwatari?
Mixing dress and Sport watches is hard, but it will be the best.
Video 2 of telling Brit not to be self conscious about her accent. As a Yorkshireman myself it’s a sincere compliment.
Every now an then I see a GS dial and I think wow wow wow. Superb quality and great finishing.
Another great video,, 👍😍
Ahhh thank you so much! 💕✨
Love GS, it’s my favorite brand. It “just works” for me, plus, I like the “if you know, you know” kind of nod to it. I get it, you have found a piece that “just works” for you. I’m the same way with omega, love the brand but still haven’t found a piece the jives with me. I’m hoping the railmaster will solve that, but haven’t had the chance to try it on yet.
Ahhh it’s all so true! 😍✨
Great video! I started my obsession with watches with a Seiko skx007. Still a favorite. I have everything from micro brands......German....Swiss...and GS. I have the sbga413 you had on your wrist. Fits my wrist well. It is an old case design brought back. Think it is too large for your wrist. I have the sbga429 on the leather strap. Feels much smaller on the wrist. There are many GS that would fit you well.
The bracelets? My seiko sarx 055 and 057 have nicer fitting clasps than my cherry blossom. I actually grow flowering cherry trees. Had to have this watch! For me..,the hand finishing and assembly is very cool. Not built by a computer and a robot.
I enjoy Seiko and GS references to nature on their watches. But, they over due it a bit. Limited editions! Way too many!
I don't really know enough about Rolex to make a video on why I don't have one. Really no desire to own one.
I own a 64 1/2 K code mustang. Also a 2019 mustang bullitt. These cars speak to me. Could have bought a Porsche or a Vette. No interest in them. Watches are the same. Buy and collect what makes you feel great!
Oh man! I nearly did a section about LEs! 😂🙈 on the whole, I do like GS! I really do! It just hasn’t converted into £££ spent!
You should try grand seiko shosho on your wrist, i became grand seiko fanboy after that watch came out.
Couldn’t agree more. I’ll have a GS one day, but the right one for me. They haven’t made it yet. They will though I’m sure.
where did you get your biker jacket Brittney? Looks good!
I know what you mean about GS. Have come very close on the Snowflake a couple of times, but there are a few things about it that I just never get past. The width at the lugs doesn't taper aggressively enough, I don't want a date complication on a watch like this that wouldn't be a daily driver, the power reserve complication is neat, but also feels unnecessary on something that I wouldn't be wearing on the daily and both of these complications interrupt the beauty of the dial needlessly to me, which feels egregious because the dial is insanely gorgeous.
Infinite respect for the brand and the people doing the work on these watches. I want to give them my money, but they aren't designing watches for me right now, and that's okay.
I've bought five GS watches and sold each one within a year, so I agree. They are the ones you respect and date, but never marry. If it doesn't sizzle, it stays in the box and has to go.
I think one problem for me, as a lover of tool watches, is that the zaratsu polish makes them very dressy and easy to scratch.
Even more true of PCLs on Rolex.
I fell in love when I looked at the GS SBGA415 (Winter) online. However when I tried it on, it felt light weight and cheap (i know its not a cheap). It was sad to fall out of love with that piece right when I put it on..
Out of curiosity, were you able to handle some of the "Evolution 9" cases? (Yeah GS is terrible with the naming). I have the SLGA009, and it's a significant step above in terms of wearability. It's a similar thickness to a Rolex OP at 11.8mm but it wears really low to the wrist, a predominantly brushed finish pushes it more towards sporty and the way the brushed and polished facets meet is just spectacular. The bracelet is much better - more solid feeling with an ever so slight taper - but still not Rolex level and lacking micro-adjustments (strangely GS *HAS* bracelets with micro adjustments but chooses not to have them for most models).
Also, not related to wearability, but the accuracy of the new spring drive movement is unbelievable: on my wrist I've only seen -0.5s after a *month*.
All Grand Seiko‘s look like Aqua Terra‘s
Very surprised to hear Britts comments on the Grand Seikos. I own Tudor, Omega, a JLC and I can honestly say that the fit, finish, polishing and of course the Spring Drive Technology far exceed the other brands I own. I'm sorry Britt but the GS is simply a step above these other brands in almost every respect and that would include Rolex (which I refuse to own). Have you used a loop in comparing the GS to pretty much anything else out there? The ONLY thing I don't like about GS is that they make too many models and limited editions. They need to understand that GS should not be the same as Seiko, where there are a million different models! But that is the ONLY think I don't like! I like and wear my other watches but my GS watches get the most wrist time and are just incredible and truly a step above them all!!!
My guy fell right into the stereotype
You have to be honest though, their bracelets are simply a massive disappointment
Woah there
Let’s slow down for a sec
Finishing is better on GS than any Swiss watch I own, including Rolex and Omega. However, I really wish there was an on the fly micro adjustment on my Snowflake!!!
@@ofanning06you could change the bracelet
"A sporty versatile piece" Yes!
I just realized that is a San Miguel Especial beer that we might not have here in the Philippines.
1. They are men-sized. As a man, I feel the same when I try on a jumbo sized watch with 40mm diameter. You can switch to a leather band for less weight.
Know what pleases me about this video? Your choice to display two of the most stunning GS releases; the SBGA413 and SBGW289. Pink; pink so delightful, so subtle, so delicious I know you know you want one. There’s a very strong possibility my next watch will indeed be the SBGA413. I’ve seen and tried it on enough to believe it’s going to work out just fine for me and my wrist. Fun video! Go PINK!
I love the spring drive and I really wanted one for a while. But, I agree with your points. I think they need to involve some of the Seiko design language. A lot of Grand Seikos look like the decor in a Chinese restaurant.
I found the mechanical models a shade chunky on a slim wrist....so I paid £2000 (list price) for a black dial GS Quartz SBGX261G. The body is a tad slimmer and sits flat...it's a get up and go watch. I love the heft and the excellence of the bracelet. The mesmerising shards of light that burst and flicker from the polished dial are an indication that it is no run-of-the mill timepiece . (Yep - I am fully bonded).
The 'spring drive' GS models are worth a mention for the brilliance of their innovation.
What you said is interesting, "They looked like a dress watch that got confused, took a wrong turn, and accidentally ended up in a sporty case...". To me, this is the perfect description of a Rolex Oyster Perpetual and to argue otherwise seems like brand snobbery.
There is allegedly a GS boutique opening here in Boston at some point. I would like to see them in person because that confused dress watch point is I think well placed. As I have a little bit larger wrist, perhaps the bracelet issue would not be a problem for me. (I find the one on my SMP 300 Diver to be just fine and plenty comfortable especially given the weight of the thing.)
I finally pulled the trigger on the Shunbun a few months back. It didn't last long in the collection. The dial was about all I loved about this watch. For some reason I had never wound the watch the many times I tried it on. I absolutely hated winding it. Just so scratchy.
I so resonate with this! I really enjoyed the shunbun! But I couldn’t see myself buying it for tjis very reason! 🙈 I think the dial was the only part I truly loved! I liked the rest. But not enough to buy!
3:30 I know what you mean when it comes to certain aspects of the case shape. I love the angles of the "44GS" case but every time I see wrist shots, I see how tall and "chunky" it really is. Might I recommend something from their Heritage collection: SBGX263. It's much slimmer and less angular than its other siblings. Once I've experienced their quartz offerings, I don't want anything else. until Spring Drive gets smaller. 🤔😆
Your comment pleases me no end wish their were more people like you and had principles like you sir , I doff my non existent cap to you sir
I agree. I see the beauty and the luster of Grand Seiko. But it doesn’t pull me in enough to be compelled to drop that kind of money on it.
i really wanted to like a grand seiko as i heard so many good things about it but honestly when i went to the boutique ... and upon looking and trying some models... even the snowflake... it really didnt spark any interest in me. you are completely right about it being confused if its sporty or dressy. plus the fact that most of the watches are chunky and thick doesnt help. the bracelet is also a big big let down.
but i have a feeling grand seiko would produce something nice that id probably wanna buy 1 day... maybe in 10 yrs or so.
They have released a new line of watches called the Evolution 9 series. Thinner cases and more modern case designs.
Love the comments on wearability, so fundamental, and where are the micro adjustments? Is like those traditional and fantastic British fishing bags that lack interior pockets, why.... and on GS: where are the
What do you think of the GS SBGW295? It’s a dress watch not somewhere in the middle.
You should look more into their dress watch offerings. The SBGW231 and the Omiwatari are stunning pieces! Because I agree, I'm honestly not a huge fan of GS's sports offerings as they're quite clunky. Thanks for the great vid yet again from back here in Canada!
Oh now the omiwatari is one of the few that REALLLLY TEMPT ME! 😍😍
I agreed with you on SBGW231
Can't agree more, grand seiko watches have incredible dials, but they are always thick with 40+mm sizing.
Even though I dress rather causally, I gravitate more toward dressier types of watches. The sporty dress aspect of these is what really drew me in. I recently picked up a soko shadow and with its charcoal dial and vibrate green second hand, it just added that little bit of extra casual look that closed the sale. That and the spring drive which I had really been wanting as a watch nerd
What camera setup do you use? Do you use a light box?
SO! There’s a lot of different set ups in this video! Some of this b roll is quite old! So in the older things: the cheapest soft box I could find on Amazon lol! And natural light!
For the newer stuff and talking head, I use a fancy light! An “aperture” light thing! For talking head I try to get the soft box as close as I can! And at 40%. And I’m using natural light as well!
@@BrittPearceWatches thanks👍
I’ve always wanted to add a GS to my collection and I did have the same issue that GS watches look better on the rack than on my wrist…finally added the SBGW289… the non tapered bracelet did bother me at first but now I’m loving it… in fact the non tapered bracelet makes the watch appear sportier and more versatile to dress up or down
There are a lot of great watch companies out there. Personally have Rolex, Omega and GS all are great for different reason. You should look at some of GS dress watches like SBGK015. But I personally like dress watches to have a leather strap.
I’ve always thought that if grand seiko could put the same effort into their bracelets as they do their dials it would be a game changer. I do own the snowflake ❄️ and the seiko sla 037 which is made at the grand seiko studio. Maybe you should try on the sla037. I also own a batman and a 16030 datejust with a grey dial that i bought new in 1982 when i was 19 for 1175.00. I still think the jubilee bracelet is the best ever made.
Totally agree. As a Japanese, I respect SEIKO and I own one, but their case is kinda chunky and bracelets are not sexy. BTW, do u know what she means lepruchans bananas?
