    In cold weather keep a small bottle of alcohol in your inner pocket. Prime the stove by placing the warm alcohol on the outer ring by the jets to prime the stove.

    i bought mine 30 years ago, traveled the world with it, its beat up, but still amazing, never let me down. Ive camped with in the tropics, in the army, in the middle east, in a snow cave in Kosi. Then at a flee market in the middle east i found one, brand new, the owner didnt know what it was, $5 bucks. Two awesome additions i would recommend are get a teflon or stainless steal fry pan, (thats mine, cant dent the thing), it fits on the other side, doesnt make make space, id also get a strainer, good for pasta or rice, and it fits over the pots, and also inside the fry pan, youd never know it was there.

    i've been using trangia stormcookers since the early 80's and really like them, i own several them with various cookware and burner options. i like how securely the pots and pans sit on the supports, you never have to worry about a pot or pan sliding off the stove with one of these. most of the time i use the alcohol burner due to it's simplicity and quiet operation but i do like the gas and multifuel burners for their specific uses, i like using the gas burner when making things like pancakes or grilled sandwiches due to it's steady and controllable heat output, the multifuel burner is great in very cold and windy conditions. there is a bit of a learning curve when using the alcohol burner but eventually you do get used to eyeballing how much fuel to use to perform whatever cooking operation you are doing.

    Nice, informative video. I got mine in the 1990s and it still works great. Back then there were tips on modifying the kit for use with a gasoline burner. That was easy to do and extended my fuel options to alcohol, gas, gasoline and petroleum. The multifuel stove can also be used on its own.
    I went for the multifuel burner as I planned to use the kit for motorcycle tours and the burner can also be fueled with fuel from my bike in a pinch.

    Now the Bulin stove is double the price. Though still a good deal less expensive than the Trangia version. It's called the "Boundless Voyage Outdoor Camping Gas Stove Alpine Burner Furnace." Looks exactly the same as the Bulin one shown in the video. Also on eBay.

    Am i the only one who thinks the trangia 27 really is pretty damn light and compact considering its fully wind proof, stable as anything, and highly versatile? (And cheap). Don't get me wrong, i also follow the ethos of "ultralight" trying to minimise pack bulk and pack weight, but cook systems always seem to have massive tradeoffs when deviating from the classic trangia system. If you only take the windshield, swap the burner for one of these 20g ones with carbon felt, and one single pot (no flying pan or extras) then really it is pretty Light. Sure you csn get lighter, but if real wind is a factor (thinking places like UK and scandinavia) then really there isnt much to complain about

    I have used that same kit for about 4 years. Love it! I use it camping on rainy mornings for easy coffee. I've also used it twice in the city during blackouts. There's enough extra space inside during transport for spices, coffee, tea, bannock mix, etc.

  • @faithrada

    Nice to see that gas adapter ... always good to have options.
    One issue with the gas Is the noise factor. If you need hot water FAST.. it's a reasonable trade off.. but normally I prefer the steady quiet of the alcohol burner.
    Just a PS..
    I carry denatured KLEAN alcohol .. they say it is healthier to use around food than the yellow HEAT additives meant for cars.

    A very good review. One small observation. I did wince when you popped the empty pot over the gas stove. Those alu pots will burn through in no time if put on empty on a gas burner. Even in the short time between putting on the pot and adding water you could tell from the sizzle the pot was already very hot.

I have the 25 and over the years have added the non stick pots and pan. A great cooking system. If you haven't got a gas burner yet the third party gas burner as in Ernie's review is just as good as the Trainga and depending where you buy, less than half the price. I got mine on Amazon. • @marzsit9833
      @marzsit9833 3 роки тому +1

      the duossall pots and pans are actually not a new thing, trangia offered them in the 90's and i am fortunate enough to own 2 vintage sets, one for the 25 and one for the 27. they are fantastic for cooking, but heavy, which is why i think trangia discontinued them but i really feel that was a big mistake. i saw that the duossall 2 pots and pans were available a few years ago but i don't own any of those and from what i can see they are no longer available again...... which i also see as still being a big mistake. i think trangia saw hard anodized aluminum as being a better alternative but i totally disagree... duossall is much better for actual cooking. but i do understand why they made that decision, everybody wants ultralight gear now so they had to go that way.

      I have found simmer ring to be better than nothing, but do not expect a simmer near the adjustability of a good gas burner. When the burner is in full bloom and alcohol inside well heated, flames roar wildly out of the simmer ring for quite some time... Adjustability is very relative...

      bardia karbalaei the official trangia burner which is made by primus is very expensive in the usa, almost 4 times the price of the chinese-made bulin burner. the only trangia produced parts of the primus burner are the aluminum disc that keeps the burner from falling through the hole and the stainless steel clip that secures the burner in the hole. so trangia buys the burner from primus who marks it up in price when they sell it to trangia, trangia adds their 2 parts and again marks it up in price before selling it to their distribution wholesalers. add in the currency exchange rate and it's just not affordable for most people. the chinese burner doesn't work as well but it is cheap, about $20.
