Love the size, handle, blade design and both grinds. I'm tempted to get one more of the first run knives from Ridgerunner blades while they still have a few left. I got natural micarta. Micarta is like a double edged sword to me. It is very strong and grippy but! It is also heavy lol. This will be my 4th WC knife. I’ve had a Nessy and a jr. Woodsman. They were both amazing but I ultimately ended up trading or selling them. I regret selling the Jr. Woodsman. I also have a second run blackbird. That knife is amazing and I will never sell it. I love the knife...and the ergonomic engineering design of the blade, the 2 part beveling...never thought it possible...the handle? Love the ergonomic design..though it has just a slight of a finger guard...made it so now to trust yourself in getting your fingers to trust handling positions of work.
    Love the knife...and I'm looking to invest in this tool to my bushcraft toolbox for use. I'm not keen on wood handle scales(in general),I prefer micarta scales...but this knife pops with the wooden scales...I like the liners on it as well..this is a beautiful knife...and a hybrid (big plus)..ahhh..let us not forget the 90 degree spine...yes,yes,yes!looking great on form,fit,and function...the sheath with fire loop...liking that...wow...I love to get my hands on it! I look at practicality and uniqueness in all work knives...two thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻...no...10..a perfect 10...great video there in showing tests on it..I'll be checking into getting my own...out of all the custom knives I researched, this one I am impressed...thanks once again for the opportunity to see these test demos...take care..and God bless.

    As I'm exploring the need to do more bushcraft, I've been looking for a knife. I prefer quality especially if its something I am going to be relying on and using alot of. My concern is that Ive got large hands and tend to find handles with finger ridges tend to be uncomfortable or dont line up with my hands properly. How long is the handle? I need at least a 4-5 inch handle for it to fit my hand properly.

    • @MysticalDragon73

    • @MysticalDragon73
      @MysticalDragon73 2 роки тому

      Knife just arrived. The coyote suretouch was beautiful. Ive got very large hands and it fit well. The handle is thicker which is nice. The finger grooves are subtle but perfect and aid in having a solid grip. One thing that wasnt mentioned was how the tang sticks out a little bit beyond the handle for a lanyard attachment. Its also slightly recessed with the handle being relieved to create a cavity to feed the lanyard into. While it might make it slightly difficult to feed in a lanyard I like it. it also would let you hit something with it. So far i am very pleased and impressed with it. I got the non fero rod vertical sheath. Its very robust and the knife joes sit deep within it . I just wish it had a positive retaining strap as I would be concerned about it loosening up over time.

      Hi Axel, it can definitely serve that purpose. I have used it quite a bit to process food and meat and it does great for me. @@blackhatbushcraft I was waiting to hear back from you before I ordered the knife, I think they had three or four available at the time. However I didn’t hear back from you in time and I panicked a little bit as over the past five or six months I’ve had similar things happen, where I tried to get one of his knives and something weird happened or they sold out from underneath me somehow. So I decided to order the knife even before I heard back from you. Hopefully it goes through tomorrow without any issue because they were closed when I ordered it. They only had one option for a sheath at ridge runner, it’s the vertical sheath without the fire rod holder. I went ahead and included that in the order, but I think I’ll send it to Randy when I get it so he can treat it with the beeswax stuff that he has. It’ll be a little bit of an inconvenience but it’ll be worth it according to him. The sheath was on the expensive side a little bit but according to what you said in the video that she is very nice and worth it.

      @@blackhatbushcraft Your video definitely helped me decide on this knife. I already have a couple dedicated hunting knives, but I wanna be able to use this one as well and have this in a backpack for hiking and for hunting as a back up knife for sure. Or Bushcrafting knife. With the drop point tip, I think it will do fine on processing a deer even the skinning and cutting part I think it will be fine. But also it seems like a very versatile knife for other things. I am not a woodworker by any means or a woodcarver, but I think it will be good for other tasks. You did a great job on the video

      I wanted to let you know I got the black hat knife today in the mail. It’s a nice looking knife, and I really like the maple wood handle on it. I have not had a chance to do anything with it as I need to send the sheath to Randy at stitched gear outfitters to put his wax treatment on the sheath! So far I like what I see with the knife, my only complaint is that it doesn’t have much of a finger guard. For being such a big and long blade, I think it would benefit having more of a finger guard for sure. I’m going to see if I can get used to it if not I might sell it. Maybe I can learn how to get used to it, but I’ll have to get a really tight grip a pie near the base of the blade

    So Mat, What no hook. I'm hooked, lol I guess your not. My first hook was of course The Tracker, 20 some odd years ago, wow. The woodsman grind is of course Williams, he doesn't claim it. But I think he's deservedly made it his own. I've gone more toward a sloping hook with the wedge grind. Great Vid well done you really covered a lot of aspects of your design. BK

      Thank you so much Robert! I agree, I know there have been others to do multi-grinds but I personally feel like William has taken it to the next level. He is an amazing craftsman. I do like the hooks, they perform well but I guess I didd go a little more traditional on this design. Thank you for tuning in and commenting Robert, I really appreciate it.

    3mm (Almost 1/8th) is the max you can go with a scandi grind medium size knife. Less than that will slice better, ore than that is a NO NO. Marketing trends and the huge misinformation spread on UA-cam, is responsible for tons of valuable knowledge on many tools. Axe was the frst victim, that chainsaws killed, now it's the knife, that UA-cam kills it.
