First aid kit is really worthwhile, it makes such a difference if you can clean up an injury and apply a plaster or bandage, and it means you can help someone else too.

Thank you my friend! The more of my kit that I can produce for myself the more I enjoy using it and feel more connected with it I feel. Self reliance is a very rewarding feeling. I can't wait to learn more and develop skills further to become more and more that way. Take care my friend and keep up the great work!

As a recent sub I’m still catching up on your channel. What a great find for me! Really appreciate your presentation skills. Some otherwise knowledgeable presenters can come across as arrogant but your down-to-earth style hits this country boy really well. Thanks loads!

Great kit and vid. So good, I just subbed. I'm looking forward to watching more vids, even if they are only by half as good as this one. I like the cutting board. Pathfinder sells a nice, well made skillet w folding handle and a lid that holds coals, like a Dutch oven. I like your sewing kit and fero rod case a lot! Also, the tinder bag and tool kit.
We have fire ants everywhere here in the south, so the hammock as a chair is a nice idea if you want to sit down longer than 5 minutes in warm weather.
I like to carry a small bottle of Liquid Bandage in my first aid kit. It has antiseptic properties, and it seals out water and dirt far better than a bandaid. I wear contacts, so I like to carry some eye drops in case my eyes get dry, but the drops are also nice if you get debris in your eyes. I also like to carry something waterproof to sit on. That used to be a one foot square piece of foam sleeping mat. But for father's day, I got a Therm-a-Rest Z Seat Cushion Insulated Sitting Pad, which I absolutely love! It weighs 2 oz and folds up nicely.

I need to find a shoulder bag about that size , the 7.62x39 lodged in my back. Makes me and backpacks not get along well . If I don't get better , won't need anything else , as a youngster , had a burlap potato sack cut close to half , lined with cotton material, to keep small thing from loosing out , carried my hunting and fishing kits in it , have carried out 4 raccoons hides out home after hunting, with all my gear . Been watching Dave and Shawn, learning how to build beds up off the ground, never knew this a a youngster

I personally like the simplicity of your kit! I see some guys packing 50+ pounds sometimes up to 70 and hear them say, "these are all the essentials". I couldn't imagine packing over 30 having done so before and felt the discomfort. Good to see guys have enough and still keep it light. Mine has a wool blanket but besides that is very similar to yours!

Thank you so much for taking the time to tune in! I feel like other than the sleep gear (beyond my hammock) This does give me maybe even more than I really need. I am like you, I don't want to over work myself carrying things I never really use and if I need it and don't have it, hopefully I can improvise off the landscape. The more years I experience, the less pounds I want to "have" to carry. Thank you again for your interest and kind words my friend!

Nice kit and nicely presented. Have you considered an emergency poncho for sudden downpours? They are only a dollar and weight next to nothing. I got soaked once on a 1 hour walk and learned the hard way to carry one. I was soaked head to toe! LOL The weatherman got it wrong that day!!! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I do usually carry my anorak which is very lightweight and packable. Prior to that I had a packable rain jacket that goes in and out of the kit depending on conditions. It would be a good addition to add something like you mentioned that could just become a permanent part of the kit. I have 2 55 gallon drum liners in the bag with the tarp and they could become improvised rain gear very easily. Thank you so much for your input and kind words! I really appreciate you tuning in! Take care.

Looks solid, maybe include the SAS survival guide, not to use in an emergency, but just to have something else to read or just to try something out (like a study book of sorts). Seen that at another one of these videos, and i rather liked that idea … as far as what i take from your video, probably the skillet (or something equivalent), for my extended kit (currently not planning to cook due to fire-making restriction and working more on a sling bag carry)); And i was very pleased to see you carry that tool roll, i had the same idea (and wondered if more people carried one and what types of tools, guess it depends what people like to do when they are out and about) and i will be making one myself from an old jeans... also, don't worry about that urge to make your own gear, as you said, it seems to come with the territory ;) … have fun out there !

Good stuff. Like your kit. Good reasons to carry each of the items. I see that you do not carry any rain gear. Storms can sometimes appear quickly. I know many people dislike Sportsman's Guide, however I ordered the German Army Fleck Pattern Gor-tex Rain suit. The one I received is in great condition and has been well worth my money.

That German surplus gear is very good gear and especially for the money! I have a few pieces of German surplus myself and it is all great stuff. If there is any chance of rain I do usually include a rain jacket in my kit for that day or if I am going for more than a day I do carry one in case. It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a spare and keep it there always. Thank you for your kind words and suggestion my friend!

Tip for your gloves. Rub in heaps of Dubbin or Snowseal. Put them in a plastic bag, leave in sun so it soaks right through the leather. It will 1. Preserve the leather and youll get more work hours before you wear hes through them 2. Waterproof them, which if you are having to move wet wood, work in rain, you'll soon be thankfull for

Really enjoyed watching. I like your approach to bushcraft. I have a Word publishers Bible with genuine leather cover in my bag along with some spectacles so I can read it. This Bible is unique because it is the smallest complete Bible that can be read without a magnifying glass. Text is very readable without reading glasses when I was younger. They do not make them like this anymore. About the size of an Altoids tin.

Great kit, Matt. Took me a while to get through the video. with stopping it and going shopping on Amazon and the net for some of the stuff I see. Great presentation.

That sewing kit is awesome, you should make a video just on it and how you made it.

Thank you for mentioning the word from the good book. After all, my connection to nature is a yearning for a closer relationship with God.

I like all of the items that you have shown. You began by saying that this is what you carry for day trips. It seems like a lot of gear for that to me.

I appreciate your kind words John. I do usually carry most of this stuff into the woods and there is often stuff that doesn't always get used. If I were going to stay a night or two I wouldn't have to add much to this at all. Mainly, I like to carry the majority of my gear just to keep myself conditioned to it so that when I do add a blanket or other sleep system for an overnighter, it isn't too much of a jump in weight from what I am used to. I also like to have the gear with me just in case a video of opportunity comes up and I need a piece to my kit to make it happen :) Thank you again for your time and interest John!

You sound like me! I quit the Boy Scouts because they were not prepared enough for me. I do like the idea of carrying extra weight each time you go into the woods to keep yourself in shape.

Very nice kit and well thought out. I love your handiwork with the pouches, sheaths and so on. More hikers should really think about taking those extra emergency items. I think a You Tuber's slogan is survival is not on purpose...shit happens and being prepared could save your life.

Love your videos. Was wondering, where would I be able to buy a copy of the Soldiers Prayer Book? I've looked on ebay and amazon but nothing that seemed exactly like what you have
