Gen 2 Raptor 30k Mile Maintenance: Front Diff Cover & T-Case

- Continuing the maintenance work for my 2019 F150 Raptor. Last time we did the engine oil and spark plugs; this time we are working on servicing both the front and rear differential fluid as well as the transfer case. I’ll also be installing an ARB differential cover on the front differential to make servicing it easier.

Installed a Spicer front cover on my 2020 Raptor, required dropping the diff like you did but the cover didn't require any modification to fit. Wasn't going to attempt it until I saw this video, thanks for the inspiration!
I'm jealous. I didn't spray down the ARB cover with anything before my winter roadtrip and the socket cap bolts along with various spots on the cover are rusted up. Spicer was definitely the way to go!

Thanks for the video. I just completed mines and went with the Spicer front diff cover as you suggested. Those top bolts behind the electronic steering rack were something awful. However, 6 hours and a bunch of curse words later and it’s finally complete.

did you have to do any of the trimming with the spicer?
@@badm0t0rf1ng3r No trimming was needed but it’s a lot thicker than the OEM cover. Subsequently, I had to drop and ratchet the front diff backwards so I could maneuver the Spicer cover into place. In hindsight, I should of removed the steering rack from the start. It would of made the process so much easier.

Mine was built March 2019 so it wasn't an early build but my dealer had 80 raptors in stock so maybe I got an early owners manual because they don't leave them in the truck.
Did you use a friction modifier with that Amsoil in the front diff or is the severe gear good on its own?
I replaced without the friction modifier as Amsoil says it includes modifier in all its oils...buuut...since amsoil sells friction modifier I'd say their oil probably still needs it. I haven't used it even on my most recent change, but that's just because I forgot.

You just open my eyes @16:20 when you bust out gasket instead of RTV.
I keep watching video and thinking how you gonna deal with RTV silicone but you used gasket.
That is just what I keep dreading to tackle this job.
Now I can just buy gasket and call it a day. Where did you get gasket and how much was it

@@mikimiki195 The Raptor uses a Ford 8.8 differential in the front and Ford 9.75 in the rear. As long as you're getting the cover and gasket for a Ford 8.8" diff then you should be good in the front.
With the stock front diff cover can you drain it thru a drain plug or do you need to remove the cover ?
The stock cover does not have a drain plug. You can pump out the oil through the fill port or you can take off the cover.
I have a 2019 raptor and went with the 1.9 qts. Adding 1.9 qts it started to run out of the fill hole. My raptor supplement manual is dated Sept 2018 and says 1.5 qts where did you find the 1.9 fill ?

How much fluid does the front differential take ??? I’m doing mine but I’m leaving the stock cover

I'd have to check the raw footage again, but I think it was around 4 hours for just the front diff. I took a few breaks though and wasted time not lowering the diff or removing skid plates until later. Not having the stock intercooler made it easier for me though. If your truck is stock you'd have to drop the intercooler or steering rack or try to work around it if it's even possible. I remove the stock intercooler in my FMIC install video if you need to reference that. Be safe!
What was the part number for the Spicer front diff cover?

@@ruffwrenchn2235 the bolt layout for the original front diff cover appears to be different from the spicer diff cover you linked. Is the spicer version guaranteed to fit ?

Would the transfer case be 1.9 for a 2017 Raptor?
When you watch the video, he says that 1.5L would be for 2018 and below, but he also says that new manuals report 1.9 L so he decided to go with 1.9 L. Make sense if your going to be using th transfer case lots and also because it was likely a typo.
If you watch from 5:56 he goes over everything about the amount of fluid to add.
