@@drboyton1 I think if you want to lose weight you've got to lower your insulin while keeping your blood glucose levels safe. If you're taking artificial sweeteners to help you lose weight it ain't gonna work. you'll end up with insulin resistance and more weight. If you try to fast or diet while taking sweet drinks you may end up not losing weight but losing consciousness instead. eating more calories doesn't equate to more fat, having high insulin levels does, insulin levels high, you're storing more of your energy as fat, since you're doing this you'll end up being hungry for more calories. So it's the process of putting on fat which makes you more hungry and eat more calories. If you want to lose weight start by reducing insulin levels. If you eat high calorie stuff that doesn't increase insulin, you'll just be less hungry have more energy and go without food for longer not be more fat. Opposite ofc is true if you eat something low calorie that raises insulin a lot.

    • @drboyton1
      @drboyton1 4 роки тому +5

@@alexanderelsen9397 There are so many levels of wrong in your comment.
There is a marked difference between having high peaks of insulin and having chronically elevated insulin levels. Lower general insulin levels will be the result of not over eating refined carbs. The research in this video is mostly correlational. Think about it: most people who drink a lot of diet soda do it because they think that they're being healthy, but they aren't putting in the effort with the rest of their diet. Pizza and burgers everyday does not equal weight loss even if they aren't getting calories through their drinks. It's called reverse causality: The people who are already obese are the ones consuming the most artificial sweeteners.
Artificial sweeteners DO NOT cause insulin resistance, and do not cause weight gain. Even if a diet soda did cause a release of insulin, what is the insulin going to store? There were no calories consumed and there is no excess sugar in the blood. The insulin levels would quickly go back to normal.
"eating more calories doesn't equate to more fat" - This is just blatantly false. Eating more calories is the only way to gain more fat. High insulin levels will generally come from over consuming calories. But while insulin is a storage hormone, it doesn't just store fat. It also stores nutrients in the muscles. So if you're regularly exercising, using up nutrients in the muscles, and letting insulin do it's job of re-supplying nutrients, then it's highly unlikely that you would develop insulin resistance even if you were eating carbs while in a mild caloric surplus.
"So it's the process of putting on fat which makes you more hungry and eat more calories" - Another rubbish statement. In general, an increase in adipose tissue will cause an increase in leptin, and therefore a suppressing of the appetite. Obese people have developed leptin resistance caused by over consumption of calorie dense food.
"If you eat high calorie stuff that doesn't increase insulin, you'll just be less hungry have more energy and go without food for longer not be more fat." - Stupid and misleading. Just because you don't have high insulin doesn't mean you can't get fat. Even if you're doing Keto properly (moderate protein, very low carb, high fat) you can still gain weight if you over consume calories. If you eat less calories than you burn on a daily basis then you will lose weight. It has nothing to do with what a particular food will do with your insulin at a given moment.
The primary driver for weight loss is being in a consistent daily caloric deficit. Misleading information like this video and your statement is the reason people struggle to lose weight.

We very seldom drink a whole can of soda with a meal, so we both
stopped drinking soda from 12 oz (355 ML) cans and now drink
16.9 oz (500 ml) bottles of soda so we can put the twist caps back on,
and put half back in the fridge, so we can finish the soda the next day.
Most people feel obligated to finish a can, once the pop tab is opened.
Reusing the twist caps keeps a bottle of soda from going "flat".
I tend to drink more instant coffee (with milk & no sugar)
and fruit juice to further reduce my consumption of sugar.

Actually Mark was basing this on old research with rats and mice. When these studies moved to humans they didn't get these results. From Science Based Medicine: All the reviews I found came to the same conclusion - that controlled experiments in humans shows a weight loss benefit. However, some reviews decried the lack of studies looking at other metabolic outcomes. Personally I don’t think this is concerning, because weight control seems to be the dominant factor for most people in determining related metabolic factors, like glycemic control. Looking at them separately would be useful, but I consider it unlikely that we will be surprised. Still, it is always better to be sure.
To that end, there are recent studies (perhaps too recent for the reviews to have taken into consideration) that do look at metabolic outcomes. A 2018 study looked at the glycemic impact of consuming LCS (which they call non-nutritive sweeteners, or NNS):
In comparison with the baseline, NNS consumption was not found to increase blood glucose level, and its concentration gradually declined over the course of observation following NNS consumption.
So LCS did not have an adverse effect on insulin effectiveness (which some of the animals research suggested) and in fact had a positive impact on blood sugar over time. This is yet another example of why you cannot directly extrapolate from basic science to net clinical outcomes in humans - you have to study them directly.

Science is not about authority. You're a doctor, but you didn't cite any research papers specifically. How can I trust the information you give out?

Oh and what's more, after correcting the problem, I became a vegan, and now rival those elephants in my ability to avoid colon cancer! God gave us "seed" in Genesis!!

You draw the concusions that people who drink a lot of diet sodas are to a greater extent obeace, this is a fact. Although in this there is no consideration to the fact that a high percentage of people who drink a lot of soda are people with bad eating habits. These facts are bad and if you want batter content and greater credibility you could link your sources and also maybe learn to read them. I feel bad for everybody watching this and believing this bs.

I’m super skeptical… I’d like to read these studies for myself. I think this guy is lying…but I don’t know why he would. But I’ve seen lots of stuff on the topic and this isn’t what most of the scientific community says.

It's hard to know who to trust these days, there's a lot of money involved.

Oh boy, bc companies who market artificial sweeteners are marketing to pple who don't know any better.
Your body doesn't know what artificial sweeteners are bc its genetically made in a lab.
It doesn't know what to do with it.
Sugar is grown from the earth, if you are going to eat sugar, just eat the real thing and stop trying to justify eating unhealthy with replacement sugars to mentally make you feel better

Dr. U just look stupid supporting studies done by competitors. The first study was rats going for sugar over cocaine. They just like sweet shit. Your credibility like so many on internet is pitiful
