Reed reminds me of a guy I knew and the thing my mom told me about him. "Some people lie so well and so often, they forget what is true and what is a lie." The moment I realized what my mom had said was true. I realized everything that came out of his mouth was a calculated deception.
Everyone is constantly using and lying to V, the entire game in almost all quests lol Regarding So Mi, she is a over 30, she was recruited at 19 (recruited by Reed through blackmailing threats and manipulation), she tells us that V is the only one she can talk to openly, she is used to hiding and lying in the agency, because otherwise is no way to survive there . So she lied to V from the beginning but as the game goes on, it depresses her, like everything she's done before. And as a result, when she tells truth to V basically risks everything, I think she understood very well that her plan may end here if V does not save her even knowing the truth.
Oh yea it was certainly a high risk but she still omitted the fact that there is no salvation for V if they help her. She still kinda manipulated them by tugging on their heartstrings
When Reed and Alex killed the twins, I expected it because I know those twins are bad guys. They're dealing with Hansen ffs. But I was shocked that V was surprised. My V had a mountain of corpses behind him from ncpd alerts alone before getting to that part. I was surprised that V was surprised. It looked like something he would do himself.
You choose how to react there, my V says nothing, they understand killing is part of the gig, and their hands aren’t exactly clean either. For a non-lethal, or very selective killer V, the dialogue makes sense.
as said below, you can choice how to react. i had same choice as you, but in my case that was irony. but i really stood off to kill ncpd or just casual gangs. i had made all side jobs, and get all i need for go up level, money, upgrade components, etc. i really don't understand people who play this game for killing more and more. if i can i don't kill, even smasher i just cdtn't kill that punk in that condition he was after fight. that sad sinister world not right in the game, same insanity as all endings. and reed absolutely normal guy btw, i just don't see any single idea how to kill him. can save so mi but in any way after all better give her to him, because as you are she will have a chance in langly, out - she just die, as you in that fucking space. they all have deserve a chance. so is v. and in normal scenery, they have to reanimate jackie, alex if she was killed, then healing so mi, and then cure v for good, and then together catch smasher and stabilize his psyche and create new command to kill real fuckers that still shitting in the nc. that's would be sequel... current condition of game is crap. and v have to care not more of two guns, katana, and knife. no give a frag like give a shit, but in this game in any school of logic we have to reanimate people. because all of them must have digital copy. that can be catched by their own soul. as do with our biological brain. in the game in any way this is the only one logic result of the world of the game. but instead - everything darkness full of shit.
I'm not gonna lie, this is one of the best (if not the most reasoned) video essay I have watched about Phantom liberty and the overall emotion and moral expansion it focuses on. Truly a great piece of work!🎉❤ [Bro pls continue so I can have something to watch like thissss]
I handed So Mi in at the very end. After realizing that she’s been stabbing you in the back the entire time after begging you to save her over and over again, I imagined V would be done sticking their neck out for her if it was between their life and hers. So when Reed steps out of the shuttle, that was game for So Mi. The way my V moved would have gotten her on that shuttle and washed their hands of the whole situation, but to stick their back out for someone who crossed a line that she knew couldn’t be crossed, they can’t expect me to kill so they can run off to the moon. For me, the whole situation isn’t about Reed, the NUSA, or Myers. It’s between V and So Mi only.
I went back and chose this outcome to save Alex and Reed, wouldn't mind if I could get So-Mi out, too, but since the option isn't there, guess it's FAFO for her.
But it's so anti-climactic lol and you'd already killed a ridiculous amount of people to get her there. Imo it's the lamest ending to hand her over at the shuttle because it's the lame duck ending. She also proves she's a better person than Reed and Myers by telling you the truth.
@@eurongreyjoy2 I think emotionally it’s the climax of the story. If we look at all the things we’ve done to this point, we’ve got: V is now a wanted criminal on the FIA’s hit list, and the NUSA president just showed that she doesn’t care about sovereign boundaries to get her way. She did this for So Mi and themselves, because the only way for her to live beyond a couple of months is to side with So Mi. So knew this and lied her way to the spaceport relying on V to murder a hundred NUS spec-ops along the way. Only after she get secure that V would get her on the shuttle, and in a half-delirious state does she tell the truth. And it’s crushing to V, so when Reed walks out of that shuttle, So lost her only shield. In my play through, Reed never directly lied to V. He had omissions, he had things he never told them, but never flat out lied, and even if he did, never to the point So Mi did.
you forgot slider when given the option of getting yanked you yank your connection to songbird and plead with reed to pull the plug on slider and he sits there and lets him die.
The only person that I came to trust was Reed, because he was always strait with V. I may not agree with all his decisions, but at least I can trust him to not backstab V.
Can you though? Reed did not bat an eye when he got the order from Myers. Sure he was grumpy about it, but he still did it. And not because it was the right thing to do either. Myers used So Mi as her personal WMD
@@ItsHawx it was right thing to do. Especially with AIs potentially having political control over Night City. And if alt gets hold on Mikoshi pretty much being able to replace any influential person in there.
On a purely technical level, the music and game noises were a bit to loud, which made it hard to hear you. Thats really my only complaint. While I view songbird and reed quite differently than you, you still make amazing points and make them well. Subbed
Put her into Reed's category but add "more volatlie" and remove "too loyal to the NUSA" I didn't mention every person as I just wanted to show how V is merely a tool to each party in this DLC
I decided to betray Songbird the first chance I got. I was pretty sure she was lying the moment she tried to pull my heart strings before meeting Hansen. I went with my man Reed. I agree, he's a slave to the NUSA, but at least he honored his deal and got rid of the relic. Looking back on the Songbird ending and the fact that she tells you straight up that there was only one person they could help, I litterally regret nothing. I feel dirty for giving her up to the NUSA, sure, but she would have betrayed me anyway. You mention how V knows how it is to fight against a terminal illness like Songbird, but I'm pretty sure he would've chosen himself instead of So Mi knowing how hard the struggle is. Night City isn't about how many people you can save, it's about how you can save your own skin. And the Reed ending has got some equally BADASS moments like hijacking a MaxTac convoy and hiding from a Blackwall-frenzy robot ;)
I genuinely thought of restarting the entire expansion just so I can experience the reed quest line but knowing the ending you unlock with reed I kinda thought the original ending (Don't fear the reaper) was somewhat...more fullfilling to me
@@ItsHawx I agree that Don't Fear the Reaper feels much better. I wrote "the Reed ending" but I meant more like his story branch in the DLC if you choose to betray Songbird. I agree that the ending you unlock after helping Reed is a bit too bittersweet compared to Don't Fear The Reaper.
For my playthrough I just ended up giving So Mi to Reed at the Launch Site, I felt so betrayed by So Mi, I wanted to believe in her and to really think that after everything she would save me, but I was just her ticket to salvation, I was a tool for her to use and that felt really personal to me, I really cared about Reed and Alex, I didn't know if I could trust them but I knew they were good people inside. For my V he would have stuck his neck out to help So Mi even if there was no cure in the cards, just because my V fundamentally wanted to help who he could in the time they had left, they wanted to make a difference however small it may be, but to be led by the nose with the promise of a cure for so long, to betray Reed and Alex after everything they had been through only to be told I was just a chump with a gun, that was dirty and low even for what V expect out of people in Night City, so knowing the cure was real I took it, I gave So Mi up, if she was willing to screw me over to save her own skin then I would do the same to her. No honour among thieves in the end.
@@ItsHawx I believe it is because you scream/get sound distorted when saying trust issue at 2:20, it didnt affect me that hearing the vid from speaker but I imagine it may hurt those that watch with headset.

I also feel like Reed is kind of lying to himself as well due to him not being able to 'retire' 7 years ago

Not really forgot I just thought it wasn't really fitting with the theme that I was going for in this video.
5:35 even funnier (with the very slight probable exception of Corpo start) V is not a NUSA citizen.
